I think this becomes easier to understand if you look at it this way. Rape is an irrational thing, strange and not part of the natural order of things. Therefore, why wouldn't a woman's response to rape be equally as irrational or strange? I think we just need to accept that reactions to abuse may not always make sense to us, and leave it at that, not get hung up on it.

I have been loathe to weigh in on the BC rape conversation. But, I do have an issue with some calling these women who are just now telling their stories as "heroes". No, they aren't. While they are definitely victims, their silence, especially those who were paid to keep silent, allowed a sexual predator to continue with his crimes. They knew what this man did to them and they kept quiet for decades and BC kept keeping on with his nastiness. These women are not heroes in my book. Just my two cents and I am sure some will blast me for them.

I don't usually watch commercials but last night I caught a huge December ad on TLC featuring the upcoming shows and, as others have noted, there was not one mention of TFW. What is interesting is that TFW's show content simply doesn't fit with what they're advertising for the shows in their Dec. lineup.
I'm wondering if her show has been postponed or if not, then possibly not being given a featured/prime time slot. I don't think anyone wants to watch the Gosselins doing back-to-school prep or taking a summer vacation while every other show in their lineup is featuring Christmas and other holiday excitement.

I agree. For one thing, he's gotten away with the behavior for decades. Why would he think he can't continue to cover it up. For another, he is of the older generation and probably doesn't really understand your next point, which was that things like this go viral and worldwide instantly, which would encourage others to come forward and share their stories.
It's not going away, and it's only going to get worse for him. His reputation has taken a critical hit and he may not realize it yet, but it's going to stay sullied permanently. There's just too many women coming forward with stories at this point. Yes, he will still have fans, and he'll still be able to tour, but probably to smaller venues for less money.
Hubris is often the undoing of those who have gotten away with wrong for a long time. It trips them up in the end.

I've wondered about that myself many a time. Especially when women do it. I sometimes think it may be an unconscious defensive move - a way to tell ourselves that such a thing couldn't or wouldn't happen to us, because WE would not do ...... (fill in the blank here).
And then there's the bitter double-edged sword of "why didn't she go to the authorities and report the assault?" Well, maybe because the women knew they would be disbelieved, their motives questioned, their behavior put under a microscope and criticized. Maybe because they had no money and no friends in high positions, and it would be like David going up against Goliath. What woman wants to run that gauntlet?
I cannot believe that all of these women are making up stories about BC. That flies in the face of reason. These are women who appear to have no connection to each other, besides their interaction with BC. Their stories are very similar. They have nothing to gain, and more likely a lot of unpleasantness to deal with by coming forward. Maybe they have children who are hearing this for the first time. Maybe even spouses who weren't aware. Why go public now, unless they want the truth finally out in the open?

Where has anyone here accused the victims of lying? The comments I've read have said they believe the stories. I think the commenter is simply questioning the victim's actions after the incidents where some stayed with him again or went out with him or even the parent's actions for allowing or promoting the "friendship" between Cosby and their daughter in the first place. Not every comment has distrust or disbelief behind it; sometimes it's simply an observation based on behavior the OP isn't familiar with.

I get that they want to tell their story and I'm sure it may be healing for some, But I'm sure the victims that came after them would have loved to have them speak out sooner. It takes a brave, brave woman (or man) to have the courage to speak out and try to put these predators away. We need to move away from questioning someone's reaction to rape and just accept the reaction for what it is, whether or not it's what you would do or what you think is the right reaction.

Kate tweeted a photo of her yard. Yes, the snow has been coming down at a good clip for most of the day, the grass and trees are covered, but the good news is that the roads are in decent shape and most are just wet. It's a very heavy, wet snow that isn't really sticking on the roads...it's just slush. Notice she did not post a photo of her LONG driveway covered in a foot of snow. Should be interesting to see if she tweets that she got out there with her NEW snowblower and opened the driveway. It's tough to use a snowblower on this wet slop when there really isn't anything to clear away. Temps are supposed to rise into the 50s and anything that is there will melt.
Will she tweet that she lost her trees (and power) and the snow plow had to come twice because she is snowed in? Stay tuned!

Same as here, instead of complaining about her long driveway be happy you live on such a large property such that you have a long driveway in the first place. And another thing, if you hate the upkeep of such a large property so darn much, downsize.

In Cosby's case, there was no established personal relationship between the two. He met with them, supposedly to discuss their "future" career, allegedly drugged and raped them, and then they had consensual sex with him. Why? There had been no established connection with him. You're assaulted, raped, drugged, and who knows what else, wake up with your clothing of and semen on your legs, know something happened and then decide to trust him and have sex with him over and over again? I'm not doubting the stories of these women, but I do question who does that, and why.

By questioning "who does that" it is indeed doubting the women. There's no way of getting around that no matter how many times people insist they are not questioning or doubting them. By asking the question, you are doubting them. I think we should be supportive of all these women and just let it go about the circumstances of what happened. Not unless she's recently started to do it. In the past. someone with a pickup truck with a plow on the front has done it for her. IDK if it's a generous neighbor or someone she's hired - perhaps it's her landscape company who does that kind of work in the winter (as mine does).

Hi, everyone! I've been missing the Ladies of the Veranda lately.
I was wondering about the new episodes (Dec?), and decided to check in here to see if there's any info. I checked the TLC listings for the next two weeks, and there's nothing. Not even re-runs leading up to the new shows. But…there were a Honey Boo Boo reruns, and several reruns of the show about the Texas quintuplets turning 5. But no K+8., not even the 10th birthday specials. How is it that TLC will air old HBB episodes but not K+8?
I remember a few weeks ago reading an article that quoted a TLC "insider" saying that they were having a difficult time finding sponsors and advertisers for K+8. That could be the problem. The shows need to make money, and that money comes from advertisers. And of course, they need sponsors to pony up all the stuff Kate expects to be given each episode.
TLC sure is trumpeting the Duggars and the Little Couple lately. The Duggars are getting almost as much media attention lately as the Kardashians. It sure looks like they are the new darlings of TLC. And, of course, everyone loves the Little Couple. But it is a bit odd to see that TLC seems to be avoiding any mention of Kate and the kids. Nobody else (including HBB). Just them.

When I grew up everyone did their own snow removal and people with long driveways would even buy expensive equipment to do it. That's changed now. Snow removal is very quick and affordable. You can pay al la carte or a flat rate for the season.
Everyone is just paying for it now unless they can afford the professional equipment and have a dad and some teen sons to tackle it. Our lives have just gotten too busy and hectic to add 45 minutes to your morning digging yourself out. And it supports the local economy by hiring local snow removal. A driveway like that you'd be nuts not to either have good equipment to do it yourself or just pay the gardening company or somebody else to. I just don't believe she has the first clue how to keep up with this job. Not to mention wasn't she out of town for CA toward the end of winter, and for DWTS? Who was going to shovel then? There was also a suggestion at one time she had a heated driveway which would melt it off.

That's what we had back home, and it was completely reasonable. I think we paid a couple hundred bucks tops for the entire season. It amounted to far less than the cost of buying, maintaining and fueling a snowblower.
A guy with a pick up would go up and down the driveways in the wee hours of the morning after a storm. The whole neighborhood would be done by 7am and it's off to work, no fuss.
I think that this man is a low-life scum who preyed on vulnerable women and got away with it for so many years. I, too, wonder why they would continue a relationship with him, knowing that he either drugged or raped them or both. That does not mean I do not believe their stories because I do. Something happened. You don't have 16 or more women coming out with the same account of what happened to them. I think that with his star-puffed ego he knew he was in control, a powerful celebrity and these women would be doubted if they ever accused him of these horrible things. I am not calling them liars. Psychologically, though, I do wonder why they would go back for more. That works well for powdery light snow, but If it's a heavy wet snow, or deep snow encrusted with ice, a broom is not going to do a darn thing. You need a scraper. It has a very stiff bristled broom (not like a broom to sweep) on one side, and on the end a good scraper for the harder stuff. Every car in the Northeast has one on the floor somewhere.

It started changing over around 9 am and the roads were pretty bad at at that point. Once enough traffic picked up though the roads changed to slush. It started going back and forth between snow and rain again early afternoon so it really wasn't that bad. I'd say 3-4 inches on the grass but the sidewalks and road are wet (no snowblower needed). Hope the roads don't freeze though

You can cause serious permanent damage to a snow blower or any machinery by just letting it run out of gas until it doesn't work anymore. Does she not know something so simple and common knowledge? Being a woman is no excuse, we operate machinery every day if you have a car.
She's like a living Goofus & Gallant and she's always Goofus. Goofus doesn't keep track of the fuel in his snowblower and runs out of gas causing hundreds of dollars in repairs and an unplowed driveway no one can get out of. Gallant does routine maintenance on his lawn mower every six weeks and keeps a spare can of gas in the garage. His lawn always looks nice and trim.
Even though you sometimes wanted to slap Gallant silly he was so perfect, Goofus really was a narcissist.

What an idiot. She has a snowblower and no extra gas? I can't think really why she would use one. Her driveway is impossible without a big plow. She's said before about someone plowing. I used a shovel once or twice on my car. I had a little plastic shovel in my car. The snow was too many inches to just brush off so I shoveled some first off the trunk and hood. I was very careful not to get to the paint level. The rest of the time of course everyone uses a brush or scraper.
I don't understand the whole "Tee hee. I'm a poor little helpless woman. Tee hee." I am a little helpless. I have too many health problems to shovel my own small driveway. So I hire someone. It's not a big deal. I can't afford it and I can't afford not to. She has enough money to hire someone easily. I'm sure she did.

I've been thinking about TLC and the issues they've had lately - Honey Boo Boo, DUI Cake Boss, and Duggars coming out very firmly against homosexuality. I would think as a network, that they would be in an almost panic mode, and possibly looking to re-tool their line ups.
I don't know, just seems to me that they should be treading very lightly right now. The last thing they need is a TFW moment to send people over the edge. Who knows what cameras have captured.
Obviously, if it's not on their schedule, they will probably use for filler, late at night. Wasn't her last "special" on at 10 EST?

Geez, I have what is probably the smallest snowblower made. It is 16 inches wide and electric. I got it for doing the back of the garage in the alley to get my car out, , the yard, gangway and front sometimes. My little snowblower is about 10+ years old. Works for me. I know some people would not use electric, but since I only use it when we get 4 or more inches, and in Chicago area we don't get that much snow all the time. We have had winters with just 1-3 days of snow, it is more colder weather we get than snow.
If Kate only got less than 6 inch, 3-4, you have 9 people there who can shovel snow, around the house, chicken coop, garage etc, and the long driveway HIRE SOMEONE!.
When I was growing up, my parents and brother & I all shoveled snow. Good exercise Kate. And a family bonding thing as well. But, oh, I forgot, Kate can't stand to be around her kids too much, she needs one week on one week away.

We don't own a McMansion, but ALL of our neighbors work together to clear the sidewalks, etc. My fiancé is often traveling, but we all look out for each other and work together on the heavy snow /ice occasions. It is amazing what you can accomplish when you plan ahead and have good relationships with your neighbors.
What happened to her "organization book" or contacting locals to be prepared for this, especially after last year, which was a hum dinger with the snow. Never mind, getting a shovel and clearing a path by house, and arranging to have her driveway plowed? The cars are in the garage, so the hell with that craziness.
How does someone who lived in this area her entire life have no clue? Guess that it a "man's job?" She needs to stop the damsel in distress act ; Where is "Can Do Kate" - yet another Kate failure.

The time to learn how to use a snow blower and to make sure it is working correctly, is BEFORE snow is even predicted. And how the heck did she run out of gas? Didn't she fill it before using it?
Sure doesn't fit the picture that she and Milo try to paint as her always being Miss Prepared for Anything.

Yes. If you grew up in this part of the country as I did and Kate did, snow should be no surprise to you or a crisis. It's as normal as sunshine and rain. You just sort of deal with it.
It never crossed my mind as a child that snow COULDN'T be dealt with. It was not an obstacle. It was a fact of life. If the snowblower quit, you dig out the shovels. If the shovel breaks, you fix it or run to Kmart for a new one. Spring comes every year and the snows melt. You just deal because that climate is your life. And it was mostly exciting because sledding and other winter activities were so fun.
This whole omg it's snowing schtick what shall I do??? might work if you live much further south where it's more rare, but she lives in PA for gosh sakes. I just don't get it but I do firmly believe it's all an act for attention.
Thanks for the help with hominy. I made this the other day, it's not posole but it's similar, it's with chicken. I wanted some light soup/chili sitting in the fridge when we're sick of leftovers. It was absolutely delicious and one to save in my recipes. Try it if you like hominy. Thanks!

When you are sincerely nice, kind and good to people, they will help you. If I had just 1% of TFW's toxic madness, nobody, repeat, nobody would of helped me, they would just said, help HER? you've got to be joking.

Wow. Did anyone watch Obama pardoning the turkeys as every President does at Thanksgiving? They had 2 this time, one's name was Mac and the other one was Cheese. Who the heck knows? When did she tweet about the snowblower? Wasn't that during the afternoon when only a dusting was covering the ground? Predictions were for the heaviest to fall in the afternoon and continue through about 10 p.m. The snow was wet, big pancake sized flakes and heavy. Who wants to be out in that and get soaking wet?Most people wait until the storm has winded down and is nearly finished before they go out with the blower. Why was she trying to clear whatever was on the ground when it was still snowing with more to come? There really wasn't enough at that point to try to blow. You can't blow rain and slush. Sometimes I wonder if she's "all there."
Kate, get your lawn people with the plow to do it next time. They will also shovel your sidewalk. I think that she likes gadgets...new toys like the French yogurt maker, the deli slicer, the bread baker and of course, the Gator.
Happy day to all of the Ladies (and Men) of the Veranda. The roads are all clear today...you'd never know it snowed. We're putting up our tree and the "new" cats are completely fascinated with it. This is their first "inside" Christmas and I think we'll just decorate the top half of the tree! They are snuggled in their bed next to the tree, happy and warm and I was thinking about last year at this time when I was worried about shoveling the deck for them, making a shelter and trying to keep their water from not freezing. What a difference a year makes!

Not that I am aware of. Just when she was on Ellen, Oprah and certain people in the audience was working with her? Also, a lady complained that Theresa performed to a sold out 2500 seat arena and only stayed on the first and second rows. And when you purchase your tickets by credit card at the ticket places they have your name, address, phone number and they can share the info with Theresa's associates and they research them to see what they can find out to make Theresa look good and correct. She has also made many, many mistakes. She fishes for information. She has hurt many families by pretending to talk to their passed on loved ones. She gives them false hope.

She may very well have a snow blower, but there's always the old standby...a snow shovel if she needs to make a path to the garage. Like I said, no way she blows that long driveway. It makes no sense. The tweet was just something to tweet about to start a conversation. Seems to me if I needed snow removed and my snow blower quit, I would pick up the phone and call a service to clear it. I certainly would not tweet about it. She's just trying to make herself like other divorced moms who have household breakdowns. What makes her look foolish is that she totally does not get it that the majority of women have the sense to take care of a broken machine without bitching about or wanting sympathy. She really is messed up. She pretends to be one thing, and when it does not work, she tries a different personality.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and that your blessings are many. I'm thankful for this group, with the pool girls and lawn boys and Admin and the wonderful veranda where we can gather and discuss books and music and TV shows and current events and, oh yes, sometimes TFMJG.
Re TFMJG's father and/or brother teaching her to do things like shovel snow, etc. I doubt that was ever a consideration. Just based on her own gender stereotypings, I suspect she grew up in a very traditional and oldfashioned home, where there were "men" chores and "women" chores and it was unthinkable for women to learn to do anything that was considered a "man" chore. I'm sure Jon would have taught her to do things like pump her own gas, operate a snow blower, efficiently remove snow, etc. but she wasn't interested in learning until there was no one else around. Either that, or he just didn't know how to teach her. I'm so grateful that my father, although a traditional man in many respects, made sure that I knew how to change a tire, check my oil, and handle basic tools like a screw driver, wrench and pliers.

They have those tri-fold flip folders. You can fold shirts, blouses, towels in record time. Even small kids can fold their own clothes with them. But, I think TFW wouldn't allow them because it is productive and replenishes your confidence and self-esteem by using them, folding a perfectly folded shirt.

These are just my thoughts, but apparently TLC can afford to send various families on very expensive locations and still make a profit. They have shelved unaired episodes of HBB. I'm confused about the tv thing. My memory sucks. I thought I remembered that the specials were to start late in December, just after Christmas. I have no idea why Dec 28 is in my head. Kate is younger than me although not a whole generation. That must have been a backwards house. We didn't have girl chores and boy chores. There was a little separation based on strength. I never chopped wood. Mowing lawn, cleaning bathrooms, shoveling snow, vacuuming, it was all for boys or girls. We all learned to handle snow because it went faster if we all helped. Did Kate always try the helpless routine to get out of chores? Would a mother really teach her daughter to pull that helpless crap? I guess maybe it's a trait of a narcissist.

Interesting that they had to go so far back to find something to air, and of course, it's one with Jon. TLC probably realizes that Jon was a buffer between Kate and the kids, and he was necessary to make Kate and her nastiness palatable to viewers. Without him, it's just a nasty woman being mean and condescending to her kids. Who wants to watch that at Christmastime?

It sounds like the tides are turning. I too saw the commercial of upcoming shows, without K + 8. With the HBB fiasco, Cake Boss DUI and his brother-in-law sexually abusing a minor (reportedly), and TFW's antics over many years, never mind Kenya's comments about TFM, the sponsors may be closely questioning if they want to sponsor these type of show. Never mind the Bill Blankenship issue, which TFW had no comment on ( I still believe TLC pacified the " Can I sue Kate" with tuition, or something to keep her quiet.)
At one point, you can no longer justify ongoing BAD choices to keep filming when sponsors may no longer trust TLC to be truthful or to do background checks or to protect children, and avoid future scandal. Like selling the sponsors the Brooklyn Bridge. Duped sponsors are now going to hold TLC to the fire.
No matter what the ratings are, sponsors do not want to be affiliated with bad behavior, as it does make them look very good. Starting to believe that TFW is toast or very close to it.

I definitely think TLC will air the episodes they have already filmed. Sooner or later they will piece-and-patch (ha, ha) together a few sponsors and air them. They have already put money into filming and production, so they won't want to take a loss. Especially after shelving a whole season of HBB. But maybe this will be the deciding factor in further filming of the kids. TLC will know that there will be problems getting sponsors/advertisers, they could end up losing money, and is it really worth it? Add to that the fact that Kate is apparently already asking for more, more, more (I absolutely believe the story about her calling TLC, asking to fill in for the unaired HBB shows). She will never be content with whatever they are willing to offer her. And then, of course, there are the ratings. K+8 in 2010-2011 went downhill fast, the birthday specials dropped by almost a half million between the first and second show.
TLC can't realistically expect these new shows to do any better. It will be interesting to see what happens next.

I always thought that BC actually graduated from Temple U. But it seems he went there from 1961-62 and dropped out when his comedy career started taking off. Temple U gave him a bachelor's degree in 1971 for "life experience".

I found a reference to a show being cancelled because of editing costs. It wasn't reality TV, but was a talk show starring those larger-than-life characters Rob and Doug Ford (at the time Mayor and Brother-Mayor of Toronto). They're kind of the Boo-Boo family of Canadian politics.

I was reading an article about BC and all the money he gave to Spilman College (sp?). The difficulty is what the contract says for each donation. The money may be tied to always keeping his name on a building. Or apparently many contracts say if you take the name off the building/chair/scholarship you have to give all the money back. For Temple that amount of money could be impossible to return. Same for Spilman and maybe others.
I don't know what the deal is that program mentioning who has custody. If a parent doesn't have Thanksgiving, chances are that's because they are getting Christmas, because most family law orders set up the typical structure of even/odd years for holidays. Big deal, whoever was without this year will get their turn next year or over xmas. The only sad part about this is that Kate can NEVER admit when they are with their father whom they love.
The other system they could be following is to just stick to their normal schedule and if a holiday happens to fall on your custodial time that's your holiday no matter what. I'm not a fan of that arrangement because it's rarely fair but it's up to them how they want to work it.
I always thought BC was somewhat of an academic but it sounds like he was more of a figurehead to these universities than an actual student. It sounds like more and more of his life was a lie or misleading. He sure loved hanging out on college campuses and commenting on complicated social issues as he if he has the authority of an academic, but how much homework he actually did is suspect.
These honorary degrees sound like such bologna.
I believe the footage for the season is shot but not edited. Editing reality TV can be an enormous part of the cost. Probably editing BOO BOO clan is at high end of the editing cost spectrum.

Yes, they'll save all the millions they have to shell out for six weeks in the editing bay. Still, they're taking a huge loss on this to not be able to use any of this footage and make bank on it. That show was getting them some of their best ratings even when ratings were falling.

Turkey pardoning came about during Grants presidency...President GHW Bush was the first to actually offer a turkey a pardon.
Sure Obama's girls could have cared less to be there....but thats what they do. How often do you see the girls doing official business? Sadly this was business.
These girls are not abused...they are not be neglected...they have a mother and a father doing the best they can for them....when they can't, they have their live in Grandma there for them. These were not kid's, shell shocked and put on the spot. She didn't want to pet a turkey OMG!
Obama's girls have not suffered anything like the Gosselin kid's have and still are.

I think the Obama girls thing had more to do with what almost every teenager goes through--finally realizing their dad is cheesy and not funny. I don't think they were protesting being on T.V. like I believe Cara was. The only difference was when they went through a "Daaaaddd plllease" moment the world got to see it, and I do agree that's not good.
Nonetheless, those girls don't seem like the type of girls who are willing to stand in front of cameras unless they darn well feel like it.
