It was obvious Steve's presence made some of the other contestants resentful, prompting at least one to spill the beans. Bonehead move, Kate.
8. That's one botoxed Trojan Horse. Kate's own former employer The Stir calls her out for her bad parenting.
When Kate said she bought the twins iphones so she could take them away, she probably expected the usual accolades and ego stroking. The public's reaction was anything but though. A blogger at Kate's former employer, The Stir, called the stunt a "twisted trick":
"Kids test their parents' limits, and we need to set up boundaries and stick to them. It's GOOD to see Kate disciplining her kids without resorting to violence ('memba the wooden spoon incident?). That said, it seems a little odd to specifically buy something nice for your child with the intention of using it to punish them. For lack of a better word, it seems ... untrustworthy? It sounds like a Trojan Horse of parenting ... here kid, here's a gift, now I can use it to destroy you. Now, to be clear, that doesn't mean you shouldn't put limits on the use of gadgets because they are, after all, a privilege. But we are supposed to buy presents for our kids out of the goodness of our hearts, not with an ulterior motive! That's part of showing love and respect for our kids. And we all know respect is a two-way street."
The Stir really nailed this one. Kate does not respect her kids, from their privacy to their gifts. Yet she wants respect in return. Relationships don't work that way, and this is a major factor in why the kids have turned on her this year.
7. The Grinch who spoiled the children's Christmas. Kate lets the kids open presents early.
Most kids hate waiting for Christmas morning, but too bad, it's every celebrating child's birthright. Kate took the lazy way out this year however and gave in to their spoiled demands, tweeting that she was letting them open at least some of their presents early. In fact, one family gift a day. For good measure, she threw in a couple ignorant remarks about Judaism too. A policy of appeasement doesn't work in international relations and won't work for kids either
6. Not-a-contest. Kate's not-a-random act of kindness contest is one big mess.
Kate announced last December she was holding a random act of kindness contest with the winners to get copies of her book. There was so much about this little stunt that was snarkalicious, from most of the premeditated acts not being true random acts in the first place, to the obvious low turnout of entries, to Kate dragging her feet for over two months to choose the winners. Not to mention how complicated state laws are when it comes to such contests. And, we all wondered, how do you "judge" an act of kindness? Is saving a neglected baby kitten better or worse than giving your sandwich to the homeless?

I guess Kate figured out how to judge them somehow, because finally at the end of February, the "winners" were announced. Incidentally, the announcement was the last time she posted on her blog in 2014. Heh.
5. Reboot: TLC and Kate bring the show back.
You have to hand it to TFW, very few cancelled shows ever get a chance to come back again. But this year was a good one for her. TLC not only aired an update special that they promised way back when, but are also bringing Kate Plus 8 back in 2015. Much of Kate's summer she was MIA from Twitter, filming in Massachusetts and Maine. The fifth worst moment is shared with TLC, for resurrecting something that didn't die fast enough in the first place, and in all the preview clips, making the kids look spoiled and unruly. And what's more, they are exaggerating a small handful of episodes and calling it a "season," which is misleading. They also promised an air date of December, only to see that pushed out to January of next year. Shame on them for all of the above.
4. John Don't. Kate buys the kids a John Deere Gator.
The dumbest gift you can get a kid is an unsafe one. The second dumbest is a gift only meant to help them with choring. Kate's birthday gift to the sextuplets for their big tenth birthday was both. The John Deere Gator was one of her worst gifts yet, and the children were spotted both driving and riding in the back, a big no-no. John Deere warns in their own safety manual their gators should never be operated by children under 16. And Pennsylvania law forbids children from driving the vehicles anywhere but their parents' property without a training certificate. Kate tweeted that Mady drove it on their neighbor's property. More than 100 children in Pennsylvania have died on this or similar vehicles in the past 30 years in Pennsylvania. I would have preferred a Jonas brother.
3. Garage sale karma
There's nothing wrong with a garage sale, except when you're filming it, exploiting your kids, and selling your ex-'s stuff (or other stuff you got for free in the first place). Kate accomplished all three at the early morning sale this fall. Kate donated the proceeds to an animal shelter, but as per her usual, barely promoted that aspect of it. The best karma of all however was when Jon showed up, bought back his own video game (lol!), hung out with the kids for awhile (effectively sheltering many of them from being filmed), and then left with all eight of them.
2. Pitch your tent. Kate insults children with special needs, and their parents.
This one was a very close second to first because it was just that offensive and frankly, cruel. We all wondered what charity Kate would pick for Celebrity Apprentice. Surprisingly, it wasn't the obvious choices of the Red Cross, the March of Dimes, or a children's hospital. Rather it was a lovely little charity she has had no discernible contact with or interest in since May 2012, Camp Barnabas, a camp for children with special needs. We couldn't find a shred of evidence Kate has ever even been to this camp, let alone supported it for more than one night at a publicity event. When asked to speak about her charity, the only thing Kate could come up with to highlight is that this camp gives parents a nice break from their burdens. For good measure, she also said that special needs kids won't go to college and will have to be parented forever. That's simply not true, Kate. It was such a demoralizing blow to families who are working so hard toward productive and independent adult lives for their children. Get educated, Kate. Your unbelievable ignorance is both unforgivable and hurtful.

1. Mommie Dearest: The twins
choke on the Today show.
In 2014, the
worst moment of the year happened only two weeks into January and hasn't been one-upped since. In an obvious
effort to build and revamp the Gosselin brand for the teen years, Kate paraded
the twins on a small media tour in NYC. First stop was the Today show, only it didn't quite go as
Kate planned. Watch it here.
Cara wouldn't speak, Mady clamped up a lot too, and when asked about Jon, Mady refused to throw him under the bus. Jon's response was heartbreaking: "I just feel horrible for my twins. You would only know as a parent. I wish I could've rescued them."
On the bright side, the outrage from other entertainment and
social media was pretty universal, with Kate put on blast from the likes of
Access Hollywood and Extra, along with numerous outraged drivebys on Twitter. It has even made at least one "year end" list of most outlandish moments of 2014, over at Gawker. It
was a defining moment in which the general public finally saw the damage the exploitation has done. That same damage we've been warning about for almost ten years now.
And finally our annual Best Moment of the year. This year we're handing out just one award, although we're giving out a number of honorable mentions. One to Candace Cameron and Lori Loughlin who, for the first time we've ever heard, talked publicly about some of the negative aspects of growing up on T.V. Lots of child stars have spoken out and it's great when they do. This time was especially important though, because the sentiment from Full House is mostly positive from everyone but the very youngest cast members, and almost everyone on the show continues to be successful. It's important to note that even good, positive film sets that produce well-adjusted adults can still cause damage to child stars in the long run. Another honorable mention goes to Beth Carson for finally breaking her silence and confirming our speculations, and for calling Kate out for the greedy liar that she is. The only response Kate could come up with to Beth's bombshell interview was a pathetic little "no." Oh, but yes, Kate. And finally a honorable mention goes to Rep. Tom Murt, who is still not satisfied with child labor laws and is vowing to do even more, including mandatory background checks for all of production and an independent advocate on set. He even has Jon aboard now, too.
The Best Moment award this year goes to the ladies of The Talk. Daytime T.V. for women can sometimes be a mind-numbing black hole of idiocy.
These women have proven this year that daytime T.V. doesn't have to be that. Women are just as smart and capable as men of producing good T.V., and The Talk did a lot last year to prove just that. What they have to say about current events is intelligent, logical, and worth listening to. The View and their squawking chickens this show is not. As for Kate putting her children back on T.V. this year, they had this to say:
Sara Gilbert: "Any time you're putting kids on T.V.--I was a kid on T.V. and I wanted to be there--but if you're putting eight kids on T.V. from the time they are tiny you don't know which ones want to be there and which ones don't. ... I chose it. They didn't get a chance to choose it."
Sharon Osborne: "It's our industry. We know what we're going to get, you know what you're not going to get. So therefore, it's a whole different thing."
So congrats Marie, Sara (both former child stars), Sharon (mother to former child stars), Aisha, and Julie.

Um, Milo...was the drunken bar foot-licking episode suitable for kids to watch?
The shocking part about her refusing to give the child a cookie (after dinner), when she did offer her soup the child kept asking "More soop mommy" until she "finally" gave her a bowl.
Mind you this was no ordinary soup, it was in her words "my yummy chicken corn soup" "and she ate the WHOLE thing!"
She admits that this was "amazing" because the child "usually doesn't eat very much!!!!!!"
I find it shocking that she would deny the child an after dinner cookie and the youngster was so hungry she was happy to get the soup. She may be a nurse but she has no idea the amount of food growing youngsters need.

The thing that is very concerning is that once it became clear the child was still quite hungry and needed more calories (and wasn't just trolling for a bit more chocolate) Kate put her in a sort of standoff, made her hold out.
That could do a number of things, including causing the child to associate food with negativity, making a child unable to recognize their hunger cues when those cues are dictated by their mother, making a child stubborn and angry, or worse yet, make a child demoralized such that they learn NOT to ask for food because it will just throw them into a battle of wills with their mother they maybe don't feel like fighting.
Craziness, I don't think anyone "supports" Brandi. What does that mean? Her commenting about child molestation is like most of her comments, completely inappropriate and unnecessary. It's why she gets into so much trouble with her mouth. She has this odd need to just say the most outlandish cutting thing possible. All she does on her show is apologize to people she's offended. She probably could use some therapy. It doesn't mean Kate isn't lazy or Brandi isn't right about her.

I don't see where she's getting all the free time to freeze herbs, strawberries, etc. What mom of 8 toddlers has time to drive hither and yon picking up fresh food? And *then* has the time to freeze it? All while watching 8 little kids.
Oh..wait. She wasn't watching them. They were in the basement, all of them. By themselves. Sounds like they got a lot of mom interaction. Not.
Once again, TFW is busy, busy, busy in the kitchen. Freezing strawberries and herbs. Waaay too busy to interact with her own children. She has important stuff to do. In the kitchen. Where the children are forbidden to step foot. Nice, convenient way to isolate yourself and not have to watch kids.
Sounds like Cara & Mady were tasked with watching the 6 littler ones, by themselves, in the basement, with no adult supervision whatsoever.
And why are they always vomiting? Even now it seems like they're vomiting way too often. What's she doing to them? Sanitation issues? Food issues?
Notice that when they vomit, some other adult (or even sibling) nurtures and cleans up the child, while she goes to work on cleaning up the chair, the rug, the 'thing'. Never once giving any thought to comforting her sick child.
She didn't even go with when Mady had a tooth pulled. Jon had to do it.
Just like he nurtured the sick children. And bathed/dried/lotioned them, and washed/conditioned their hair (while she threw a load of laundry in).
And they try to say that she's a good mom??? She's a terrible mother. She clearly has *no* interest in her children. Disgusting.
Lazy, lazy, lazy.
Bathe 8 kids; or throw in one load of laundry.
Clean up vomit from one car seat; or clean it up from a sick kid, comfort the kid, all while keep the other 7 under control.
Freeze strawberries; or pay some attention to your kids (the ones that you so badly wanted to have).

How about verbal diarrhea? She really does spout crap.
Fummy how other adults, Jon, Jodi, Carla, Janet, etc. can handle all 8 kids by themselves for hours, or all day, with some of the kids sick, and none of the adults goes nuts.
TFW can't handle an hour by herself without freaking. She has to have a helper, or a babysitter, or someone else take half the kids.
And she sure seemed to spend 90% of her time "cooking", instead of on childcare. It seems to me that as the mom, you'd want someone else to do the cooking, and you spend the time interacting with those wonderful little kids.
But not TFW. Anything she can think of to not spend time with them.

This reminds me of Red in the Shawshank Redemption. When Red is paroled and working at the grocery store, he went over to his boss and asked him if he could go to the bathroom. His boss got mad at him and told him not to ask him every single time he had to go to the bathroom.
When those kids finally get out in the real world, it is going to be rough on them. She has and will continue to micromanaged them where they to have permission for every little thing. No freedom to go to the refrigerator to get a drink, cookie or a yogurt. Can't talk freely on the phone with their dad. No privacy because she plasters their pictures on twitter.
She has really truly messed these poor kids up.

She has a long history of food and dysfunctional choices. This is not an isolated incident that can be viewed in a vacuum. If it were I would think nothing of it.

Some thoughts on the diary/journal:

From the beginning, she touts her amazing organizational skills.
In one entry, she "let" the kids get dirty, admits they had a blast, then marvels at her "tolerance." Guess who bathed them?
Her food control is obscene.

Why am I passing this on? It is not to gossip. It is simply to pass on some limited yet accurate context about a situation that has gone public because the primary characters in this sad, sad drama have chosen to throw themselves – and their children – in the limelight. My blog is occasioned by the Gosselin story as told publicly to the world by the Gosselins themselves.
For a minute, remove all the rumors and stories (many of which are true), and think only about how the family has chosen to present themselves. Think too about the fact that when the cameras are on, we usually put on our best smiles and best behavior. . . and then think – long and hard – about what that best behavior has been on this particular show. Then, imagine what life is like and how people act when the cameras aren’t rolling. After taking that all into consideration, we shouldn’t be surprised by the train wreck that’s taken the world by storm.
The Gosselins moved out of our neighborhood just before last Thanksgiving to a new million and half dollar home. Ironically, we’re consistently told by one member of the family that money is scarce. To be honest, our little neighborhood is relieved that the publicity blitz went into high gear after they moved. Yes, the media still shows up to film their empty house and interview neighbors. I saw them here yesterday.

Read briefly Kate's journal and the things that struck me were:
1) Kate invoking God every time she was hoping for a gig or money to come in, yet she did not seem to make it to church very often.
2) Leah/Hannah said.....over and over and over again. (Yes they are very verbal now too and not in a good way)
3) Seems like there were quite a few "crisis team members" Jon had to call from work when she was "losing it," to come over the house to check on TFW and the kids' well being.
4) Never mind the 4 + hour naps (in her own words) the tups had to take so TFW had a break - kids were left in their room for hours (she noted 4 hours on her initial documentary). She should have been checking in on them, so no dressers fell on them or destruction happened, but she probably put them up there for long periods of time to avoid them, which is not normal. without checking on them.
5) Expectations to potty train a boy at 3 in 4-5 days - Really?
6) Pressure on Jon to quit his state job so she would "have help" although she clearly had Many people helping her on a daily basis, and often at the drop of a hat. And still has help to this day for 10 and 13 year olds. LAZY.
7) She seemed perfectly willing to let anybody (Beth and her husband) pay for dinners, new house, etc.... TLC at every turn and the tuition issue was vague at best in terms of WHO was paying for the majority of the tuition/"scholarships".
8) Her competition and reaction to other mothers of multiples losing children- deplorable.
This woman is clearly not capable of handling 8 kids, even with admitted help for several hours each day after school. She admitted to help 20 hours per week in the evening. Her parenting style is not working, and I base this on recent shows, taking twins on national TV for interviews, and how she has alienated almost everyone she has ever dealt with. Trying to rip off Beth with the book was a true show of her character. Cutting off family, friends, etc.. at every juncture just makes you a very shallow person.
No wonder the CA contestants have her number......

How in the world does the mother of 8 small children have the time to write those long journal entries.
It looks to me like she prefers to write ABOUT her children instead of actually BEING WITH her children. Seems that most of her encounters are the children walking up to her while she's busy doing something, not that she is playing with them when they say their "cutisms".

You have to parent them not just spank them. One trip to the store she spanked Mady multiple times with the spoon that thank goodness she had just put in the van. Poor kids. The story about the kids pulling over the dresser struck me because they hadn't attached the dresser to the wall like a parent should. Instead it's the kids' fault. Kevin Spacey was great, as were the others. The only one I didn't care for was Leann Rimes. IMO she butchered "Lullabye", which is one of my favorite songs.
