Serial: The best reality TV show... er, podcast, of the year

Reality has its place, and the genre is never better served than the true crime podcast by This American Life out of Chicago, which just wrapped up today. You can listen for free on your smartphone's free podcast app (just search for "Serial" and download the episodes), or listen for free online.

Did Adnan kill Hae? You decide over the course of 12 engrossing episodes.

Some questions to ponder:
  • How much can you remember about what you did six weeks ago, on November 6, 2014?
  • Is Adnan a smooth talking sociopath who has charmed narrator Sarah Koenig or is he actually who he says?
  • What about that phone call to Adnan's then girlfriend the day of the murder?
  • Was the investigation botched?
  • If Adnan didn't kill Hae, who did?

They had their voices down. "I do a podcast it was supposed to be for four people!"

Haha and Mail Chimp.

My sister got me hooked on this serial somewhere around the 7th or 8th episode. I binged to catch up, then eagerly waited for each successive Thursday. From the first to the last, I listened with full attention. How excellent!!

And how perfect the final episode. I wondered if I would feel cheated, if Sarah would bother to try to wrap things up. It was handled perfectly, in my opinion. I will wait for the next series as eagerly as I used to wait for Christmas morning. Bring it on!!!

From previous thread...

FYI: James McGibney CEO of Bullyville. Knight in Shining Armor to Kate Gosselin and the self styled King of the Internet is begging for rent money. A Go-Fund me account has been set up (laughing my arse off as l type this) and the magnificent sum thus far is approx $200. Waiting to see how much Kate Gosselin throws in for her old pal & cyber bullyguard.

*****************

I hear the detective donated fifty bucks. It's that quite the turn-around? He was promising the sheeple mega-millions, and now they donate to his cause? Laughing my rear end off here, too!

Does Milo know that Coyne is her competition when it comes to lusting after Kate?

Jeanne said... 6

I don't understand Kate Coyne. She must meet lots of celebrities. Yet she worships Kate? It's confusing.

I'm sure the defective detective is stunned by the James McGibney defeat. I think she really looked to him to vindicate her life's work of defending Kate and saving screenshots. Now what is she supposed to do? Who will help her take down all those horrible people who have said bad things about Kate?

FYI said... 7

Hey, Kate won the People Award for Celebrity Role Model of the Year!! Not Kate GOSSELIN, though, Kate HUDSON!

I wonder if Milo was watching. She probably was all hyped thinking her Katie was going to win it. And another Kate(Upton) won Sexiest Woman Alive. Milo must have been so disappointed.

Poor Kate G., even People doesn't know how to help her.

Of course, Milo again butts into the convo between Kate and Kate Coyne.

Can these children not have ONE parent who they can trust to stfu? Also, he's hired a personal trainer and nutritionist. Yeah, Jon. That's the way to spend your money. RIDICULOUS and disappointing.

Other good shows:
Survivor season 29 (!) Had a fantastic ending!
American Horror Story: Freak Show wrapped up last night, I am waiting to watch until dd and I can watch together.
SyFy miniseries Ascension was really intriguing premise, entertaining, and would be cool series or another mini series.
Amazing Race finale Friday!
TFMJG is still boring.

Huh? Celebs are asked all the time what their kids wants for Christmas, what they're getting them, how they celebrate, etc.

My narcissist was. She answered. iPhones or iPods, I can't remember what was said. Who cares.

It's great to hear that he's getting them Christmas eve and the last week in December. It makes sense it's his turn, since Kate got them for Thanksgiving.

Jon's not a celebrity. Big difference. Or is he done being a private person? Just because they asked doesn't mean he should answer. It's gross.

-----------

Yes, and I remember last year that a few sites published the Christmas lists of about 12 or so celeb kids. I remember that one little girl only wanted a Doc McStuffins wellness center (even though the parents could have afforded to purchased a whole darn hospital), and another said he wanted money to give to the sick kids in hospitals to make them better. I remember thinking at the time, aw!

So he hired a nutritionist. He doesn't have to answer to anyone about how his money is spent, and I really doubt that he cares he doesn't have 100 percent public approval.

Wait a minute - the sheeple and the tabs claim he is homeless and unemployed. Does that mean he's living in his car at the fitness center and the trainer is doing this as a Christmas gift for him?

I'm just not getting what's gross about it. There is a lot of things that should be kept quiet about children. This does not strike me as one of them. I think it's kind of cute and interesting to hear what kids these days are into. I don't see how any child would feel violated to have a parent talk about it. In fact they probably would support spreading the news as widely as possible LOL.

NJGal51 said... 20

Actually url Jon didnt spill their lists at all. He gave generalizations and didn't name specific kids. I really don't see anything wrong with hat he said. As far as having a nutritionist and a trainer? Who really cares. It pales in comparison to all the "people" TFW has.

“The boys want Nerf Guns and outdoor stuff. Headsets for their walkie talkies and XBOX [and] the girls want iPhone accessories, jewelry and clothes. The twins want gift cards for shopping,” Jon reveals exclusively to HollywoodLife.com.

redbirdsings said... 24

I think that it is wonderful that Jon quit smoking, is eating healthier and has someone to help him get more fit. He will be in much greater shape and mind when TFW's down fall comes. Jon saying what the kids want for Christmas was ok. Sounds like he has everything bought or maybe have some shopping left and has everything under control.

I noticed in the sticky buns picture way in the back on the left on the floor looks like a big box wrapped in green or red solid paper with silver on it with a big red bow and another gift beside it. I hope those are real presents and not fake. I think she bought the pans, baked canned cinnamon rolls and rolled out that dough to make everyone think that she slaved over a hot oven. Notice there is no flour on the wooden roller. Another gate! Sticky Bun Gate!

There may be some new readers here because of Celeb Apprentice or new specials. Here is a handy guide to commonly used acronyms on this blog.
Kate Gosselin = TFW The Former Wife = TFMJG The Former Mrs Jon Gosselin = TCFW The Former Crazy Wife = WOS Waste Of Space (what TFW called the Grand Canyon) = Katie Irene Kreider (Kate Gosselin s maiden name) = the warden
Kate Gosselin s home = The Orphanage = Shawshank (and if you can't figure out why, see the celeb wife swap recap)
Steve Nield = the boobyguard = TFM The Flying Monkey = Purse Boy = Rat Claws
Representative Thomas P. Murt, (who we like a LOT!) member of Pennsylvania House of Representatives, who has worked on legislation to strengthen Pennsylvania child labor laws and include protection for children in entertainment. (Dance Moms and Jon and Kate plus 8 film in Pennsylvania)
please add any acronyms I left off the list

TFW will be 40 in 99 days. 99 days of grifting on the timeline wall, 99 days of freebies, post a tweet, pass it around, 98 days of grifting to go!

I also appreciate that Jon has taken it upon himself to know exactly what his children are into and would like as gifts. And it sounds like things are back on between him and the twins because he seems to know exactly what they want.

You ask a lot of fathers what their kids are into and they don't really know. They are stumped when it comes to Christmas shopping. Mothers too for that matter. A lot of people don't REALLY know their kids. Jon has always demonstrated a sincere interest in his children's INDIVIDUAL needs wants, likes and dislikes, and his children will appreciate that someday.

As for personal trainers, yes it's pretty popular right now. All the major gyms have personal trainer "packages". It's actually a pretty good deal. I think at 24 hour where I used to go they had like 10 or 12 session packages for a pretty reasonable price. People don't necessarily mean they have some kind of Hollywood superstar working with them when they say personal trainer. Usually it's just some 20 something with a sports medicine degree making 17 bucks an hour at 24, not that they would be a bad trainer at all. Sometimes it can rather mean they paid 24 Hour 120 bucks and that was that.

Formerly Duped said... 29

I don't think what Jon said was bad; it only gives the impression of the kids and Kate not piecing and patching ( obviously they have iPhones and x-box is a realistic expectation) but no big deal. But by saying he has a personal trainer and nutritionist, he is also saying he is doing ok, and hopefully the homeless rumors are put to rest.He did some repair work on his reputation.Nice the kids will spend some holiday time with Jon.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 30

One of my friends was very overweight and got a personal trainer a few years ago, now that I think of it. I remember some people were balking at the expense of it. But I think she had a good point that what she's paying for that is nothing if it means she is adding years to her life. How much is one year worth to you? Two? Three? Ten?

She has lost over 100 pounds between that and eating healthy, it's really a blessing.

Jon's haters may resent the expense of a trainer/nutritionist, but have absolutely no issue with all the crap Kate spends to make herself "feel better".There's a pretty long list just starting with all the cosmetic procedures and ending with the fake tanning and everything in between. She probably has her own personal trainer as well.

getofftwitter said... 34

To the person who thinks Jon is an ass for spilling the beans on presents, he is not. As many here have said, a lot of celebs will generalize what their kids want, and yes, Jon does know what his kids are into, which means YES, he does see his kids, contrary to what Kate & TLC, and the sheeple are trying to put out there. That Kate does it alone.

As for Jon getting a trainer & seeing a nutritionist, good for him. Did it ever occur to the some people here that Jon just recently went to the Doctor and was told he has some medical issues, and that he needs to take care of, one of them is losing weight. And yes, most insurances do cover nutritionists, as for a trainer, it's probably included in a exercise package. So kudos to Jon, who is worrying about his health. And YES , what Jon does with his money is his business, which means he is taking care of his kids, and he is not homeless.

FlimsyFlamsy said... 35

Kate should have gotten a personal trainer to help her with her running and nutrition, because she was awful at it.

Frankly I'd rather somebody be helping her because she doesn't know what she's doing. There is nothing wrong with asking for, and paying for, help when it comes to your body and nutrition. Most people spend money on their body and nutrition, be it makeup or supplements or gym memberships, diets or paying for an actual person to help you. I don't see that it matters HOW you're spending your money on your body. We almost all spend in this area. Your health is a GOOD area to spend money on, not a bad one.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 37

&&&&

That's probably because she's too busy talking about herself and receiving their praise and inflating her ego for her to bother to ask what they want or are into. Do I believe she really knows these kids? Nope.

Jon is the kind of parent that wants to be around his children because they are fun to get to know on a very deep level and have a beautiful parent-child relationship with because that's just part of really LIVING. His interest in his children does not appear to center around how they make HIM feel about his ego.

If your physician told you that you have to get fit due to medical issues, the gym membership can even be covered by your FSA account.

There a lot of expenses I shake my head at, but health and wellness is not going to be one of them.

Regarding personal trainer/nutritionist, most of the time they are short term commitments, to help people get on the right track. I have taken advantage of free sessions at my gym and thought, 'that's it?' They draw up a plan for you, help teach proper form and procedure, and then move on. I see lots of people with trainers, and soon, they are on their own, doing what the trainer recommended. They walk around with their clipboard, checking items off. It's kinda cute!

What did you think of Dawn Wells? The first guy that got chopped, his dish was awful. Those kids that competed for the Teen Champion tourney cooked at executive chef levels in 3 star kitchens. I was so happy that Tommy Rae won! Sweet southern girl! I wanted all the teen kids to win! Yep. I've "got" a nutritionist, by which I mean that I have Kaiser coverage and they offer free consultations with one of their nutritionists and follow up to help people eat healthier, lose weight, control medical issues, etc. As to a trainer, most gyms offer the services of their trainers at reasonable rates.

Why would it be wrong for anyone to try to be healthier? If you can't stand Jon, that's fine, but his efforts to lose weight and get fit shouldn't garner disgust, nor his brief comments about what his kids might like for Christmas this year.

Why do they need to be distracted or entertained? They've got iPhones, iPads, XBOX so that should provide plenty of entertainment and distraction. Plus, it's the Christmas season and there are many, many specials on. They're 10 & 14 and should not have to have a new gift every day until Christmas to entertain and distract. I think it's really so that they'll already have gotten so much that by the time they get to Jon's whatever he's able to afford to give them will be a letdown. That and she may be leaving Christmas Day for her well deserved vacation.

I guess she'll be tweeting about how they love this new tradition of gimmie, gimmie, gimmie, more, more, more.

redbirdsings said... 66

The tweet that they are going to open one gift per day till Christmas day to keep them entertained just shows you how BAD she is teaching materialism and entitlement in that house. She is making a big mistake doing this. She is only doing this to show them she provided a big Christmas and when they get to Jon's on Christmas eve, it will be a letdown!

Jon can easily fix this! He could take them to Church on Christmas eve, the reason for the season, then take them to his house to eat a good meal, and then have Christmas with hot cocoa while they unwrapped gifts from each other and to their dad.

If TFW would do this instead of the gluttonous mountain of gifts, her children would be much better off. Give a gift to each other, make a gift for each other and give a gift to someone in charity. So each child would get a new gift, a homemade heartfelt gift and bless another child with a gift.

That is why the circus birthday party was such a flop. She should of been asking from the first of the year for books, stuffed animals, small toys, items for the OCC shoe boxes and they could of went shopping on TLC's dime for more items. OCC packing party. Invite a bunch of kids to pack the boxes. Ordered pizza and a cake for the kids birthday and TFW could of said, my kids have been so blessed over the years and it is time to give back. My kids are provided for and there are many children in our own backyard and across the globe that are suffering, have never had a gift given to them and what a great opportunity to make that child smile and give them hope for the future.

The only way she would do it is TLC filming and bankrolling her.

She really knows nothing. and I agree, are her kids all hyper- why the need for distraction and they are plenty old enough to entertain themselves as someone said, even if they did not have the latest technology. Does Kate know Jews also really do charitable activities or donate time or goods during Hanukkah?

It's not only ruining Xmas at Jon's but she is probably leaving town and can't be bothered with celebrating Xmas with her children. Anticipation for Xmas is such fun and she just sucks the air out of the holiday.

Why would it be wrong for anyone to try to be healthier? If you can't stand Jon, that's fine, but his efforts to lose weight and get fit shouldn't garner disgust, nor his brief comments about what his kids might like for Christmas this year.

-----
-----

Exactly. If he's concerned about his health and his weight and needs help, then good for him for tackling the problem. He should be given kudos for this, not criticized for taking charge of his health. Same goes for mentioning what his children want for Christmas. Celebrities do this all the time, and at least he's not dragging them out on television for an interview to spill their Christmas wishes.

@Kateplusmy8 craft: decorate egg carton, fill w/wrapped little gifts, kids open one a day 12 days b4 xmas eve=entertained & distracted :)

That being said, my child never needed distraction. She played with her cousins, and when alone had a great imagination! In 5th grade, where the G kids should be, she was a big help getting ready for Christmas. She loved to read, and found lots of ways to entertain herself. Odd.

Anonymous said... 79

Giving "stuff" early to keep the children occupied/distracted, anything to keep them out of her sight. Pity they don't have a relationship with grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins so that they could share this special season with them.

I wonder if they have ever visited a public library, gone skating, bowling or any other public facility without being filmed for public consumption. They could also help out at the local food bank or Salvation Army depot.

These are overindulged children and, in the spirit of the season, they could see how so many others are just getting by with basic food and clothes.

She is teaching them that the meaning of Hanukkah is nothing more than getting gifts on more than just one day and the meaning of Christmas is nothing more than sticky buns and piles of gifts. I'm afraid that they're going to be just as materialistic as she is. She knows that Jon can't afford to give them what she can. I hope that somewhere inside of each of them is just a little bit of Jon that is allowed to shine through and know that it's not all about what you get.

Geez. This I would use for a toddler and make the gift a little snack or a sticker etc. But I probably would never use this gimmick. Part of the fun of Christmas is anticipation. We do open one family gift Xmas Eve such as a board game, but that's it.

There is so, so much more to this holiday no matter how religious you are. Giving is key. And the sounds and sights of the season, family and friends, music and tradition.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 84

The way she describes these kids they sound incredibly manipulative. And that's not their fault, kids who are allowed to manipulate tend to manipulate. But they are going to be in for a real shock when they hit the real world and that sort of thing doesn't work. You're not going to be able to talk your C up to an A in college. You're not going to be able to stop your boyfriend from breaking up with you if he wants to break up with you. You're not going to be able to spend money you don't have. I fear for them that the real world is going to be an absolute shock after all this coddling from Kate.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 86

It really is sad that the only thing she can think of to appease bored or impatient kids is with presents.

The problem with that is not only does it spoil them, but it teaches them that when you need to soothe yourself because you are feeling a negative emotion, you should buy things to feel better. This leads to countless kids growing into adults prone to overspending (or overeating, or risk taking, or obsessing, or drugs, or any number of over indulging behaviors) because they never learned how to soothe their emotions constructively.

These sort of little decisions in childhood matter, Kate.

There are so many constructive things they could do with bored or impatient kids around the holiday. It's so endless. And lessons could be taught too. Stand outside a grocery store with a shopping list for needy families and ask each person going in to get just one item. My church does this and it really works! People don't feel like it's a hardship to get just ONE thing. They could feed one family

Collect toys for Toys for Tots. Visit a homeless shelter. Volunteer at a holiday party for foster children or the elderly in nursing homes. It's endless what you could do.

And I think she's full of crap. I think she's not getting her kids over xmas this year (who cares? Lots of moms aren't when you share custody. That's just a reflection of a FAIR family law order, nothing more) and that she has to have some excuse why they got her presents early. There is nothing so god damned terrible about simply saying the kids are with their dad this year so we did xmas a little early. It's not a big deal.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 87

What do you base THAT on, Milo you idiot?

Lots of kids appreciate Christmas even if it's just one day. But you need to teach kids to understand gratitude and be appreciative. This needs to be TAUGHT, and it's a lesson that is taught slowly over 18 years, one year at a time. And giving in to their demands for more and more stuff does nothing for that. In fact, it sets them back.

Rhymes with Witch said... 88

With the caveat that I really do believe most kids today are decent kids. However this is an example of everything that is wrong with helicopter kids, spoiled and coddled kids.

I really don't give a crap if they can't wait for Christmas. They're going to have to wait. Waiting and being patient is a life lesson. I really do not care if they are crying they are so bored and impatient. Being bored and impatient and coping with those feelings is a LIFE SKILL. They do not celebrate a Jewish holiday that structures their gift giving differently, and even so that's beside the point because Jewish children have to wait every year too. Everybody has to wait for their holiday to start.

I know she really thinks this is just a cute nothing little thing to appease them but to me it's not nothing at all. It's a huge mistake.

Although I have been appalled by Kate's behavior/decisions in the past, this one really blows my mind. You don't give a child one gift a day up to Christmas to appease/distract them; that is ridiculous. It is, in my opinion, just to take away from Jon's Christmas with them.

Not only that, I remember as a child the anticipation and joy leading up to Christmas; the excitement on Christmas Eve trying to sleep and wondering what presents would be under the tree in the morning; the joy of running down the stairs with my brothers and sisters to see the presents under the tree and what gifts had my my name on them. Kate is taking all of that joy and excitement of childhood away from her children.

She also is not teaching them about the spirit of giving. I always used to bake cookies and make baskets with cookies and fruit for the neighbors when my daughter was young; she would help me put them together. Then she and I would deliver them. For one or two neighbors that we knew had fallen on hard times, instead of fruit I would put a small ham in the basket/gift bag. I also took her with me when I delivered donations to the food pantry. We did our best to show the importance of giving and not just receiving.

Jeanne said... 117

I don't think Hannah actually brought up Hannukah. These conversations are all made up by Kate IMO. She claims Hannah said it but really Kate thought it would be cute. The occupied/distracted part of opening presents has to do with Kate also. They probably promise to stay out of her way if she gives them presents.

Most kids will say stuff like I wish Christmas was tomorrow. They just want a little empathy. If you say, I know it's hard waiting, they'll go play. A good distraction would be for them to help make cookies. At that age they can help. Since her baking is all for show, they can't help. She misses so many fun times. I feel sad for those kids. They must know their mother doesn't like them.

Exactly. It's normal to be ready for the holiday to get there. Even as an adult I wish it were just here. I'm having family here for xmas for the first time in years (I usually go to them) and while that's fun there's so much work to do for it.

Work is crazy, I have so much cooking and cleaning to do, and to top it all off my fridge and freezer died yesterday. Sears is coming tomorrow to repair it and I've got all my stuff crammed in a mini fridge. Never a dull moment! But that's life. Christmas can't get here yet. It won't be here until later next week. I have to just get through this week somehow. There are no quick fixes.

The thing is though if kids are having a hard time coping with having to wait, that is where Kate needs to be a parent. Like you said, show a little empathy, and use it as a teachable moment.

Kids, if we're anxious or eager for something that can't get here any faster than it gets here, how can we cope with that?

Volunteer work, start reading a good book and see if you can finish it before Christmas, do some cleaning or baking or other prep work, call someone you haven't talked to in awhile, listen to a new Pandora station on their iPhones, watch a classic Christmas movie you've never seen.

Kate is a quick fix parent. She just wants a quick fix to the situation and move the heck on. That may be convenient for HER, but it does nothing to help foster the skills a child needs to learn as they mature.

---------------

Bottom line is that it sounds like these kids are nothing more than an annoyance to her. She doesn't know what to do with them, how to find anything creative for them to do, charity work doesn't interest her in the least, so why would she pass this on to her children? Not only doesn't she know how to parent; she doesn't want to learn because it requires far too much work.

Then there are the sheeple who want her to write a book on organization and creative ways to raise healthy and happy kids. Wouldn't be much of a book -- just give them "stuff."

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 121

Sleepless, agree.

I think one of the most appealing aspects of having a child in your life, whether it's one you gave birth to or a niece or nephew, close friend, or whoever, is the opportunity to be a teacher.

Kids are desperate to learn about the ways of the world, even if they aren't able to say so. They are looking to you for help.

There is so much a child has to learn that goes beyond school. They learn just as much at home about our world as they do at school. And one of those lessons is learning to wait for good things. No cheating, no work arounds. You have to wait.

She doesn't appear to have that burning desire to fill that roll. She doesn't seem interested in their education, and I'm not talking about reading and arithmetic.

She just wants to be the BFF because it makes her feel cool, and she wants the trophies handed out by the sheeple and Kate Coyne for being mommy, however she defines that. She is not interested in the important role we as adults can really take on when it comes to children. And that's a shame, because her kids are going to really suffer someday from not having someone modeling and teaching these sort of things. Someone who just took the easy way out whenever a learning opportunity came up.

Thanks for the reminder about Stephen Collins. It comes on here in a bit.

-----------------------------

Exactly. If she is "teaching" them anything, it's that instant gratification makes everything right in the world. They have the "your every wish is my command" thing going on, and once they've learned that, there's no turning back.

AND, they will soon discover that they thing they wanted doesn't make them feel as good as they thought it would, which causes them to seek even more and more things. Like a drug, they will chase after more and more for the same effect. This year it's Christmas presents 6 days early, next year it will be 10 days early, next year a month early. Until they grow into adults spending and spending whenever and whatever without ever making yourself wait and at least think about it first. Because they have learned this is how to appease themselves. They didn't learn more constructive, and cheaper ways.

Just a thought...

Yes. I would venture to say that most people would be fine to just pay for the 10-12 session packages offered by most gyms and then be done with it. You can learn all the basics you need with just that.

Reality television star Kate Gosselin and musician Kevin Jonas of the Jonas Brothers will be competing in the next season of Celebrity Apprentice for two Springfield-based charities, according to the show's website.

Gosselin is representing Camp Barnabas, a Christian camp for kids with disabilities, special needs and terminal illnesses. Jonas has chosen Convoy of Hope, a faith-based international humanitarian-relief organization, as his charity.

They will compete against 14 other celebrities in Donald Trump's reality show with the winner receiving a $250,000 check for their chosen charity. Jeff Nene, national spokesperson for Convoy of Hope, said Jonas' brothers, Nick and Joe, and father, Kevin Sr., have been big supporters the organization for a several years now. His father serves as the honorary chairman of the board, Nene said, and Joe Jonas worked at Convoy of Hope's response site in Moore, Okla., after the tornado in 2013.

"All three of the Jonas Brothers have been really good to Convoy," Nene said. "Kevin Sr. is a really down-to-earth guy who has a heart beyond music and making money. "The three sons have inherited that as well — a heart for helping people in need."

Nene added that Kevin Jonas is "pretty talented beyond his music ability."

"We are hoping that he goes really far in the show," Nene said.

The season premiere is 8 p.m. Jan. 4 on NBC.

One thing TFW's tweet has revealed is that the film crews are long
gone. There was lots of fun and excitement and activity swirling
around for a while there -- as long as someone with a clipboard
and a camera crew was making it happen.

Well, she's got her "just the 9 of us" fantasy. Kicked Dad to the
curb, our relatives don't know how to help us, we're too famous
to go out to the movies without creating a mob scene. And I think
she's miserable. When they moved in and she did her couch
interview grinning about how her kids could "disperse" in such
a large house, it was chilling to me. The message was loud
and clear -- she didn't want them around.

It's amazing to me her lack of tact. I've seen enough now of her talking about Christmas and birthday presents, expensive gadgets galore for her kids, and other VIP treatment to know that she's utterly clueless.

I worked with extremely wealthy people, worth over 30 million, and they never flaunted their money like this or ever made others feel bad. In fact anyone wealthy I've ever known almost seemed a bit embarrassed by it. I had friends who went to Europe for three weeks every single Christmas and had a second home there, but it's like they went out of their way to just not mention they were doing it. They seemed very aware that most people will be lucky to afford one Christmas abroad let alone every single one. It's way out of line at this point her bragging.

Anyone see Stephen Collins?

After that interview I'm firmly on his wife's side and I believe that he is not cured and is a sexual deviant attracted to children.

The number one reason for this is Katie Couric kept pressing him but aren't you a child molester, doesn't your interest in children and acting on it making you as such?

Stephen kept saying oh no no I'm not a child molester or pervert. I have no desire for children. I just HAPPENED to have touched about four different little girls.

Katie's like uhhhhh then why did you touch little girls then? I'm confused.

Katie did a good job. He's in complete denial.

These kids are over 10 and 14. They know they have to wait until Christmas. Was this just Kate's idea and the kids went along with it? "Sure, Mommy, we will open a gift a day and then disperse."
She is destroying any value system they had developed. C and M were talking on the couch in the last special about how they manipulated Kate; she thinks she's masterminding them, but in fact, it's now the opposite, as far at the twins go.

Loved the podcast, "Serial". It was tremendously produced and narrated.
I do wonder, however, what Sarah's thought process was as she decided to wade into these waters.
Hae's parents have to be ripped apart by this. I feel for them. They are convinced Adnan is the killer and although it will never bring Hae back, it must give them some comfort that he's behind bars.
I also wonder if Sarah realizes that this podcast phenomenon will inevitably put a finger on the scales of justice.
I'm just thinking "out loud" and although enthralled and entertained by the series, there are moral implications to consider.

Kate and giving the kids their presents early- well, what can we say. The odds are against those kids growing up NOT spoiled.
They have been showered with special treatment, gifts, toys and trips their entire lives, which is so ironic, considering their mother cries poor every single chance she gets.
During this Christmas break, those kids should be hanging with friends and family. They have a huge house, expensive toys and really, everything a kid could ever want, materially.
That Kate feels she needs to appease them by letting them open gifts is nothing short of pathetic and tragic.

Grow up kids- you're too old to be acting like bratty toddlers.

Read a book, think about how to help less fortunate.
As for Kate, what a pathetic imbecile.

Go play gaga ball, go to a movie, go ice skating, go to gymnastics.

Oh, right. No cameras, no interest in doing things with the kids.

Tucker, I had the same thought about Hae's family.

From what I have heard from families of victims, it is tremendously painful to have someone go digging all over again when you have found acceptance and closure about the tragic event. And now your daughter is the subject of endless speculation on Reddit.

That doesn't mean a journalist shouldn't tell someone's story or that we shouldn't talk about it. We as a society have a right to question whether justice was done, and we will hopefully always have that right. However, she did not even acknowledge the family dynamic of it. I haven't quite finished yet but I'm close, and so far, she has not said whether she tried to reach out to Hae's family or ascertain their feelings on the matter. That seems like an important piece here, IMO. The right thing to do, if you will.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 139

Yes and I didn't mind that the twins said that. The twins seem well aware they manipulate her, they have her over a barrel. And they take advantage. They want what they want like any kid does and they know how to get it. The difference is their path to getting what they want is unhealthy, but that's not their fault nor are they old enough and mature enough to not take that path because it's not "good" for them. Which is why we have PARENTS.

That's just what kids DO when you give them that power. It's kid nature. They were just being honest about the situation.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 141

I've seen a lot of articles lately about childhood and boredom, with worried parents asking the experts if it's okay to let their child be bored. Here's one of my favorites:

"When a youngster says, “I'm bored,” he is simply announcing that he has forgotten that he has the capacity to entertain himself. If he insists that you do something with him because there's no one else to play with, don't feel obligated to give in. There's nothing wrong with letting a child wander the house aimlessly for a while; necessity is the mother of invention.

If you don't provide diversions, your children will find ways to entertain themselves... eventually. Over-scheduled kids often claim there’s “nothing to do” because their muscle of imagination has weakened. Allow your children their frustration. “It doesn't seem fair that Dad won't take you to the mall.” “You were wishing you could take another dance class this week.” Acknowledge their predicament, and put out art supplies or a box of Legos, but don't worry too much about making the boredom go away.

Downtime is crucial for children, especially in today's world of never-ending stimulation. Kids who lose the capacity to daydream become restless adults, constantly searching for stimulation and distraction."

boredom. Interesting stuff -- really makes me worry for the G 8.

We get into discussions here, and people provide sources to back
up their opinions. If I slam TFW about something, it's usually based on words she's said on film, or tweets of hers I can cite. And then
you have someone like Gladys, who pulls "facts" out of her fantasy version of TFW, and will stand on her virtual chair and shout them again and again, trying to convince people they're true. Meanwhile,
she's seen the exact same film footage, and read the exact same
tweets, and continues to disregard it -- or purposefully manipulates
the information to suit her agenda.

Like Gladys saying spreading gifts out instead of all at once makes kids "more appreciative." Huh? What study says THAT? She just pulled that out of her ass without a single thing to back it up.

And then saying they're cooped up all winter? Huh? Apparently she's never lived in the Northeast, where the world is your winter playground. But for a few rare exceptions like heavy wind, blizzard conditions (which often happen at night anyway) or ice storms, you can go outside. Heck I think I may have been outside more in the WINTER than summer, because the humidity can get REALLY bad and uncomfortable in the summer. And it's not uncomfortable to be outside when it's snowing, whereas when it rains, you get wet and cold so much faster. Sledding, skiing, snow forts, capture the flag. All wonderful things to do outside in winter.

I grew up in an area where everyone had "woods" in their backyard. Oh my goodness the possibilities were endless. The woods were my spaceship, my fortress, my castle, my treehouse. Summer OR winter.

I agree, TFW hates him for ending their show, and was no longer interested in him, as the show as we knew it was done. Guess Jon had served his purpose- quitting his job (at TFW's request so she could travel 2 weeks with TFM). ---------------------------

If I remember correctly, the twins helped her wrap gifts last year ( well because she is too lazy) and probably paid them for it. I remember while filming, she offered K & M $20 each to go off the sliding board by pool to do so while filming, plus she noted that the twins get extra money for extra chores (with the chore jar). I think this is called bribery to a degree, but TFW "does it all by herself."

sayitisntso said... 165

A side note, but I hope the boys get I Pads, so they don't have to "watch" their tup sisters using them all of the time, that we have seen repeatedly on film. Not sure why TFW thinks they are second class citizens, but clearly she thinks the girls come first, in her bad choices, expects a lot out of them (chicken coop chores daily, cleaning bathrooms, weeding,etc...) yet Mady - according to her; does not want to empty the dishwasher often. Imagine the boys saying no to that. It is very disturbing how little they have to say, and how the tup girls treat them, and SHE should be focusing on that, rather than herself.

Never mind the bribes she now is giving them in advance of Christmas, as I think she knows most of them no longer want to film.

TFW clearly has some issues with "gender" and it is getting very old.

sayitisntso said... 166

Just a guess on my part, but bet the twins have a good idea of what boots, etc... they are getting, and saying they need them before Xmas for XYZ. They actually seem to have her over a barrel and get to see friends, get to do things, etc.. so she extended it to the tups.

She really has lost control, as she has 5 girls who are challenging her who she has filmed them to death, so I think it is time to end the show, but she never will as a narcissist, and the girls have learned how to "work" her in return for filming. The recent previews of upcoming shows are disturbing at best, as the girl tups are screaming and yelling, Cara silently walks past her, and Mady rebelling. Never mind zombie boys, which is VERY disturbing at best.

What more of a clue does TFW need to know that the kids are done with being filmed??? And embarrassed in front of all of their friends.

I've listened to Seraial since the beginning--I am an avid This American Life fan. If you download the TAL app, you can do searches for Sarah's stories and Interviews.

There is another spinoff with Alex Blumberg as he navigates through the process of starting a new business, called Startup. it doesn't have the true crime hook, so might not be of interest to some of you. Once you start listening to This Aamerican Life, you really get to know the reporters. Based on having listened to Sarah for years, I don't think that Serial could have ended any other way, and I had arrived at the same conclusion. Don't want to say anything more since so many are just starting. Maybe we can revisit it after the holidays?

As far as Hanukkahgate--I am Jewish. I am not offended by ignorance, an that is what that comment was.

Since the original statement came from one of the kids, it isn't surprising because they probably have school friends that are Jewish. My kids were always jealous of the big Christmas score, because a bunch of presents seemed better than the straggle of gifts over 8 days. It is, as many have said here, a teaching opportunity. Which, of course, was missed.

Have you thought about taking them outside and "distracting" them with some fresh air and snow. How about having them play with the plethora of boards games you were gifted from Hasbro years ago?

Why not have them write and perform a play for you? Or, as someone mentioned, get them involved in a charity project.

Christmas is so much more than distracting your children with material things.

So sad that they aren't learning this important lesson from you.

I really don't think they are bored. They have plenty of 'stuff' and a beautiful property. There is so much to do related to Christmas, as well, baking, crafts, stories, TV specials, enjoying their new bedrooms, games, songs. Can't the Von Gosselins give a concert? Mady a one-woman show? Have a sleigh-ride on the Gator? Have friends over? No, TFW won't arrange anything for them. NO FUN THINGS! But I do think they are old enough to make their own fun.And as Christians ( ahem) they could be involved in church/religious activities.I think Kate made up the whole scenario to make herself look good, 'giving' so much to the kids.

@Kateplusmy8: Today's family gift was a game for our wii...so once we opened it, there was much wii play (along with baking gingerbread men & other stuff)
========
Damage control for the they need to be distracted tweet. They are now baking gingerbread men (&other stuff). So in addition to individual gifts they get enough family gifts to open one a day until Christmas? I guess she can't claim that she's piecing and patching any more.

What I found most fascinating about Serial is that much of it was produced in real time with new information coming in as each podcast was released. I have no strong opinion on Adnan's guilt or innocence. I do believe the investigation was bungled in many ways and that his lawyer was incompetent. Given the lack of evidence and what I would consider reasonable doubt I am surprised he was convicted 15 years ago. I hope we get an update on the Innocence Project's work and whether they ever get to test the DNA. Can't wait to hear what case Serial will cover next.

Serial, broadcasted in real time, became a grass roots effort. Citizens were retracing steps, challenging timelines and looking for the elusive pay phone at Best Buy.
I'm not convinced Adnan is innocent, but it is incomprehensible to me, that Adnan could have enlisted the help of "Jay" in the way Jay describes.
Can you imagine your friend calling you to come meet him and then he shows you the dead body of his ex, whom he just killed? Further, to go along with the process of and assisting in getting her buried, for HOURS?
I mean, who was Adnan? A latter-day Whitie Bolger?
Jay capitulates to helping bury Hae or he swims with 'da fishes?

It make no sense at all.

Yes, Adnan's lawyer seemed very strange and I found the demand to pay her with cash, in ridiculous amounts, to be suspect.

I was amazed that even after her death, Adnan speaks highly of her.

Wow. Jon finally upped one on TFW! And it wasn't even his fault! haha

When you google kate gosselin, the very first item is JON! haha and the article about Jon and the kids Christmas.

Here is the kicker: the headline reads:

Jon Gosselin: How He Will Celebrate the Holidays with His Kids!

Bwahahaha! Bet that chapped her good! Especially the gift everyday till they leave for Jon's. I hope she enjoys her little mini vacation with TFM!

I fell asleep listening to Serial and clicked it back on as soon as my morning coffee was brewed.

Compelling!

The "breadcrumbs" left by posters here have always led to something interesting and memorable. Thank you.

Classic TFW code speak. She doesn't say she was playing the
Wii game with the kids. She doesn't say the kids were helping her
bake. But the language was just vague enough to try to convey
both. And "other stuff" is vague enough to mean absolutely
nothing. No pictures, no proof -- right, fans?

For someone so concerned about finding good role models for the
G boys, Gladys sure does seem to hate men.

Tucker's Mom I agree that Jay is the biggest mystery. Unless he killed her (and I don't think he did) or is protecting someone else (who?), why would he lie? Did they kill her together? Was it an accident? So many unanswered questions.

Did she ever tweet that each of them was going to open a gift? I haven't read all her tweets, but the only one I remember was this one:

Kate Gosselin @Kateplusmy8
Decided this yr 2 open r family gifts, 1 daily til Christmas bc they r items we can use2entertain/distract:) Lex:Like Hanukkah? Me:Oh yeah!

No mention was made of each child opening a gift, which would have been 48 gifts...only a "family gift."

NJGal51 said... 193

Blowing - I wasn't saying in my post above that they were opening individual gifts daily. I guess I could have worded it better but what I meant to say was they get enough family gifts that they can open one of them daily. I guess the piles of individual gifts that it takes her so long to wrap (not rap) will be opened when they get home from Jon's.

No photo of a half-lit, ornament-deprived Christmas tree yet?
;-)

It's pathetic that Kate's most ardent toadies are praising her brilliance for giving the kids presents every day until Christmas.
As if every parent on Earth should have thought of that!

I should have cried bored as a kid. Oh, wait, that's right, I was too busy playing and having fun in my mediocre house in my mediocre neighborhood with my mediocre friends, and going to see Santa and buying presents for my parents and doing really special, fun things like seeing The Nutcracker.

Since I have iTunes, I went and found Serial. Wow. It is good.

What I don't understand is when A told J that he was going to kill H, WHY didn't J as soon as he got away from him, go to the police? The police could of called the school, got H to a safe place there and put a wire on J and get him on tape.

It drives me nuts when you see crime shows that show someone wanting to kill someone and find someone to do it for them for a little or a lot of money and they just go and kill someone they may or not know. Why not say, I will have to think about it, I really need the money, but I will have to decide and I will call you back tomorrow to meet somewhere. Then call the police and there would be plenty of time to get things set up to catch them trying to hire someone to kill who they want dead.

Also, when Sarah called A in prison to tell him about the girl talking to him in the library, I figured he would get really excited about it and when he didn't, I was a disappointment.

It seems plausible that Adnan got in an argument with Hae things got heated he choked her and accidentally killed her. Jay's story doesn't all add up however it doesn't make sense he would lie either. His story matches up with the cell towers and the call to Adnan's ex most likely was made by Adnan. Those two things are hard to explain away and Adnan's explanation is I don't know. I think Adnan did it.

Yes, Tucker. We never hear about the kids going to The Nutcracker - which everyone should see at Christmas-or other plays/shows other than those of pop stars.Didn't TFW say she wanted to 'culture' them? I like to see at least one choral show this season and used to take my kids to some type of Christmas concert or ballet every year.

$$$

That part didn't bother me. For lots of people the answer is never go to the police. Even for something major. That I know for a fact. Jay pretty much explained that.

Did anyone find Adnan too polite? Not angry enough for an innocent man?
He came across as bit "aw shucks", but when Koenig dug up his stealing money from his mosque, Adnan sure did get his hackles up.
I understand that bringing that up seemed superfluous in the sense that it doesn't make anyone a murderer, and it could be that Adnan felt vilified by what was really a petty crime.
