Like Tucker I don't mind the contrived nature either. I don't know why since I hate most other fake reality shows.
I don't know I really do feel that even if it's contrived, the relationships and conflicts and behaviors themselves are not fake. So to me it's a fake situation but with people being real. I find discovering which celebs behave like adults and which like doofuses to be entertaining. You just would never know some of these things in any other context, like the infamous example of Dionne Warwick.

I think some celebs on the show know how to play the game, and here's where Kate's strategy paid off for only so long.
Kate, obviously coached and rehearsed, portrayed herself as Ms. Polite and Professional, "excuse me, Mr. Trump, You Honor...", and she got her face time up front.
Then, the drama was cranked up, and she faded into the background, while Kenya and Vivica threw an epic cat fight.
And they stayed.
Too bad, so sad.
That was the play Kate made, so deal with it.
Then there's Leeza, who really is a pro in every sense, and SMART, and effective.
Is there any wonder why her authentic self is winning right now!?
Leeza's actions always align, and I think people pick up on that.
People like Kate, who can turn on the nicey-nice bull crap, but then act all slacked-jawed and roll their eyes with contempt (and have NO DOUBT, that's why eyeball rolling is), don't so much translate as genuine.

I watch WW today and Vivica, was on, and she was truthful in saying to be on CA, you need very deep pockets. Kate, I think went on to just be on TV, Kate has no deep pocket friends, so for her it it is TV. Just like to Kate, bad publicity and good publicity are the same thing. TV is TV.
*****
That's how I've always viewed CA- it's publicity and a chance to jump-start an otherwise lackluster career, or change public perception.
So, yes, true A-listers like Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks and George Clooney aren't going to be on CA.
They don't need it, but for the rest of the B through Z listers, it's a rather big gig to get.
Kate should never have been so angry and dismissive on her Twitter.
I have to imagine that she was just as unpleasant and ungrateful in person, when her fated limo whisked her away from Oz.

Kate is a #DoIt for stating she wished she had gone out like Melissa Rivers. Melissa acted like an out-of-control, spoiled brat, running around like a pinball gone berserk. What a disgusting, embarrassing display. And THAT is what Kate aspires to??
*******
Oh man, that was pretty crazy. I remember watching that season and thinking that the only reason Melissa was on was probably because Joan twisted The Donald's arm to make it happen. But the total freak out, where Melissa is running around (or hobbling around), demanding that they bring her purse and "everything!", and stating she wouldn't do an exit interview -- so dumb. It's just a silly reality show, why behave like that?
I think it revealed that one of Joan's Achilles heels is anything that she perceives as a criticism or act against her daughter. She could not view the situation rationally. A perceived attack on her daughter was taken as a direct attack on Joan too.
I've also wondered if she didn't amp up the drama with the (unspoken?) approval of Trump.
On a related note, I have been watching a British reality tv show and it's quite delightful. Anyone else watching The Great British Baking Show? It's down to five contestants at this point. What I love is that there is no back-stabbing, no ramped up drama. I also really appreciate how gracious the contestants are to each other, and when they are eliminated. No "Melissa Rivers" behavior there.
The one hour edit seems to be a compromise but it did the show no favors. I would rather they did a sink or swim approach to it. Either scrap it all together, or show it the way it should be shown, two hours.
What are people's opinion on whether the ratings are good enough on CA to give Trump another season? They don't seem terrible exactly.
I keep thinking about CC's letter about Kate not being authentic. She must have really pulled something major for CC to openly call her out on her behavior! I bet she was so pissed. lol
*******
Oh, gosh, there's that!
LOL.
Yeah, that Coupon Cabin shit-canning was epic, and then to chime in on Twitter years later?
My gawd, what did this woman do?!
I imagine Kate was beyond livid, "can we sue????"
"STEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVE!"

I happened to be channel surfing last night and I found that show. It was really interesting and there was no yelling and all the contestants were gracious. They even helped each other.

She just can't hide her artificiality. If she's held up to the light you can see right through her. Even a 15 watt bulb will show it.
Leeza's actions always align, and I think people pick up on that.
Yep.
They see TFW being all smarmy on CA, and a screaming banshee on her own show, and it's hard to sync one with the other. You end up wondering which one is real.
Well, actually you don't wonder that. The screaming banshee is clearly the real one.
Talking about ramped-up drama, I guess they couldn't find any on Leeza's team during the final task, so by editing they created it.
On last night's CA, they show Johnny and Brandi being MIA and Kevin and Leeza wondering where they were. It was portrayed as if they were not doing their assigned jobs and decided to have fun instead.
However, when they showed Johnny and Brandi stopping for hot dogs and beer, something clicked in my memory about some pictures that were posted on twitter during that part of the task.
It turns out that not only were Brandi and Johnny having the hot dogs and beer, but so were Kevin and Leeza and they were standing right there with them. Yet it was portrayed as if Kevin and Leeza were busy working on the task, while Brandi and Johnny were slacking off.
Here are the pictures. Click on the one on the bottom right to get a better view:

I agree that one hour for each task this season was a rush job. Two hours though, I felt were sometimes too long. Perhaps, 90 minutes would have been the best compromise and hope if they do have another season that they'll consider it.
I think the season was rushed, because NBC really didn't have a spot that could accommodate one task per week. CA used to air for about 12 weeks, but this season was narrowed down to 7--or 8, if you count the Sunday premiere as one of those weeks.
Oh, gosh, there's that!
LOL.

It's probably more like what she DIDN'T do. She sells herself as the best of/at everything, but never delivers the goods.

I've read DT had been bugging Joan Rivers for years and that the only reason Joan Rivers agreed to do CA was if Melissa was part of the package. I got the impression that she was doing it to help launch Melissa's career.

Was it ever revealed where the money raised by Kate came from for the wedding dress project? Who was the contributor? I can't remember. That's how unforgettable her appearance was on CA.
****
I don't believe it was ever announced on the show, but I do remember reading that the donor was a local wealthy man (local to Kate). I've tried Googling for more information, but I'm not having much success. I remember thinking it was sort of strange. He walked in with the check, but wearing a baseball cap and looking like he didn't really want to be filmed. There didn't appear to be any real interaction between him and Kate, even when they were standing next to each other. They didn't look at each other, she didn't appear to smile and thank him, and she certainly didn't introduce him or say anything about who he was.
Math Girl:
. And the ass-kissing by the contestants (especially Kenya) is nauseating. When they file into the boardroom and chorus "good afternoon Mr Trump" I was so reminded of kindergarten classes from days of yore.
*****
No kidding! "Mr. Trump" this, and "Mr. Trump" that. Blech. I'd say Kenya was the biggest and most obvious sycophant of the bunch. It sure seemed like she was hoping to drum up some sort of business arrangement between herself and any of the Trumps. But didn't Kate once refer to Trump as "Your Honor"? I'm surprised neither Kate nor Kenya tugged at a forelock even once.
What are people's opinion on whether the ratings are good enough on CA to give Trump another season? They don't seem terrible exactly.
---------------------------
The ratings have been pretty consistent averaging about 6.5 million viewers and a 5-6 share. However, the ratings for last night went down quite a bit, falling under 5 million viewers.
8pm-The Celebrity Apprentice (clip show) 4 share 4.57 million viewers
9pm-The Celebrity Apprentice 4 share 4.87 million viewers
I wonder why they went down so much. Could it be that people were disgusted about the firing of everyone on Team Infinity the previous week? You'd think the ratings would go higher considering that they're down to the final task.
Last week's show had the highest ratings of this season so far with 6.98 million viewers and a 6 share.
The Donald isn't going to be too happy.

I've seen some posters mention today about Breaking Bad starting and another show with someone named Saul? (lol, don't watch a lot of tv!).
Maybe CA is a great show to watch if nothing else is on?

Thanks for the ratings numbers. According to "The Donald", his show is the number one show in its category. I guess the category is all shows named Celebrity Apprentice.

I have to laugh at how everyone kowtows to Trump.
That hair, those squinty eyes, that puckered, orange punim...how can they keep a straight face?
I personally loved how Kate unabashedly groveled.

I was put off by Trump's firing of an entire team for one thing and then last night Vivica was gone and it was off to Florida. Too rushed for my liking anyway.
If it does go another season I'll watch if Jon shows up.

I generally hate competition cooking and baking shows, but have heard such good things about the British show, that I think I'll record it and see what it's all about.
We used to watch Top Chef religiously, but even that's fallen off the radar. I didn't even realize a neighbor's kid is competing this season until it was almost over (is it over yet?).

Thanks Millicent. If he was a local I'm surprised she was able to scrounge up as much as she did. Who hasn't she screwed over in that community? 'Ghettoville' was what she called it, IIRC.

Agree- when it came to Melissa, Joan was fierce...and blind! I think she'd cut a bitch when it came to her daughter.

I'd pay good money to see anyone tug at his honor's forelock and not get their hindlock kicked.

For a show that was questionable to be picked up (wasn't Joan Rivers shocked and elated when her season got picked up?), I thought the numbers were great.
And the PR was outstanding. There have been so many commercials and uses of other media for CA, that I can't believe NBC didn't put a lot of money into pushing it.
Like Admin noted, there is a lot of pretty footage in each episode, so it's far from a shabby job.
Seems like way more production value than TLC puts in.

Yup, the editing was obvious, and thanks for the links of the photos- I clearly remember them.
Brandi and Johnny are getting a goofing-off edit, Geraldo appears to be going rogue and Lorenzo looks like "what the hell am I doing here...in FLORIDA!!".

Who know if JJ/JP was the donor and someone else delivered the check? The deliverer was allegedly a sponsor, as him mom was a single parent, but he barely looked at TFW, let alone spoke to her. And didn't seem real happy to be there.
Who knows with her? One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Nothing ever seems to add up.

I did read about the guy and his charity- I think I read that he had a felony conviction (unpaid loan or something), which he stated was slapped upon him for losing his temper.
Which makes no sense to me, but whatever, he was happy to help out Kate and drive his flashy car to NYC to hand over a piece of paper, which also, makes no sense to me.
