My sediments exactly. I think Joel especially looks like Jon.
I thought it was gross the kids chewed on cloth diapers to soothe themselves, but if it worked, go for it. Back then, I didn't realize what they had been through and need such solace.

I also treated my kids' loveys with reverence- my 20+ son has remnants of his blankie he had from birth in his room, which was a gift from my mother.

The thing that got me about gumgate was not only was TFMJG threatening to toss her little boy's comfort toy, she was actually enjoying tormenting him about it. The more upset he got, the more excited and gleeful she became. Just watch her eyes and her facial expression. She was ENJOYING herself. She was getting high on the power she had over a 2 year old. I think this episode is when I really became an Mady fan. That little girl wasn't afraid to confront her out of control mother in defense of her little brother. That's why I can cut her a lot of slack in her behavior today. No matter how much she mimics TFMJGs behaviors, she will never be like her mother. She has heart and compassion and she's actually capable of feeling love. All things that are lacking in her mother.

I had 2 stuffed bears when I was little. Unbeknownst to each other, my 2 grandmothers got me nearly identical bears for my first birthday. The only difference is one was black and white and one was brown and white. I slept with those bears, carried them around with me, and took them everywhere -- even to church at times. My mother mended them I don't know how many times and they went to college with me and sat on my bed there. When they were destroyed in a fire, I was devastated. I can't imagine my mother threatening me with throwing them away.

Angie (#170), we don't even need to see Robert's receipts
about dental work -- TFW's teeth whitening was done on
camera! A free procedure, plus a paycheck for the episode.
Keep tap-dancing about that hard-knock life, Annie -- only
the very naive and the very lovesick are buying it.

sorry, should have been more clear-ish in my thoughts. LOL I meant if Robert has any evidence of veneers, since it's widely-ish believed that she's had that done.

Formerly, that is great news, despite your aching muscles! Our 'holder' will go out 5-6 times before 9 am, even taunting us by squatting sometimes and then popping up at some imaginary noise, and not going. When she finally does go #2, it's a doozy, and you have to be out of kicking range, because she'll be so excited to be rid of that load that she'll kick gravel or grass very aggressively, and you could end up with a scalp and shoes full of said material as you clean it up. You can't help but laugh.
We have a city condo and she is WORSE there, which is really unbelievable - because as someone pointed out, no dirt, no grass. We don't go up often because of that, hubby stays alone.
But we love them, don't we?

I think landing the CA gig and the exit of HBB got her that so-called season of five shows; otherwise, she was DOA with TLC. So maybe this is finally it although I can see TLC doing a tups turn 13 and the twins turn 16 IF the kids will allow it. A show about Kate turning 40, which would be another boondoggle she wants, I really do not foresee.

It will be curious to see what she does in the next few months to continue to keep herself relevant. She is running out of options. Maybe she'll off the nonprofit although her benefactor is a sleaze.

Oh, Angie (#4), I wasn't being critical -- I hope it didn't sound
like that! I was just saying that it wouldn't even take any
detective work on this particular fib as it's proven on the show
itself. And the "Annie" I was referring to was the little orphan
of the same name -- as TFW repeatedly presents herself as
someone with endless struggles.

-----------------
Exactly this. And when the twins bolt from home at a legal age, she will be left in the house with a pack of teen children who do respect her, or each other. The boys may even be physically larger than her at that point. She has, given the classic narcissism, no idea what's coming.

So it was the 'young' self that tortured her child over a teddy bear? Nothing has changed with her except getting physically older. She just has a new arsenal of electronic toys to bait the children with. She is Indeed a histrionic child raising children. Suffer the little children.

====

Back then we didn't realize a lot of things. Like when she came home after her jowls of the dog were removed and walked into the nursery, we didn't know those kids were afraid of her. For the most part they were not terribly happy to see her. We were led to believe it was because she looked different to them. The warden had returned with a new hairdo.

Now we know it was because from one day to the next the kids didn't know what to expect from her. One day she would walk through their door and would either be patient with them because they'd had a long four-hour 'nap' and she'd gotten her time away from them, and the next day she'd come in there like a raging beast because her day was going bad. She was screwing with their heads back then and continues to screw with their heads to this day.

Shitty parenting, and probably why the kids now mouth off to her--hollow threats.

Parenting 101--never make a threat you are not willing or able to carry out. I would add that threats are never necessary---putting down a consequence that directly relates to the behavior puts the responsibility back on the child. Not that she really cares about molding mature, compassionate beings. I don't know why I bother--the fact that she routinely practices conditional love shows that she needs remedial parenting classes.

In her world, where everything is about her, a child going through a normal developmental stage is defying and abandoning her and love is conditional on "good" behavior. Statements like "you are no longer Gosselins" show how shallow her concept of love is. The fact that the kids do band together (especially the neglected boys) is pretty miraculous, given her "every man for themselves" philosophy of life.

She is really the most exhausting person--needs constant attention and unwavering devotion every minute of every day.

I agree with people here of the rehashing of old episodes. I think why they did that, cause they did not have enough footage, cause, possibly a lot ended up being edited out. Does anyone remember, K8 taking 3 possible episodes and putting them into 1. In the past, the yard sale would have been just one episode, the twins birthday would have been another and the photo shoot would have been another.

I have no doubt that they will do filming, over spring break. As I posted earlier: her hash tag from last night:

#GN #untilnextTime @ TLC This was a hint.

I see, Thanksgiving, Xmas, possibly Super bowl, Trip(spring break), Easter, Kates birthday, Tups birthday and twins graduation from 8th grade. Into about another 5 episodes to be aired in June.

Let's face it Kate, your kids are not cute anymore, especially the way they act, the stories are old, boring, re-hashed or call it updated versions of same formula, they are stale, there is nothing more to tell, millions of people/families go through the same things, your not special anymore or interesting, inspiring, or a role model mom. The only thing you got is a learning model on how not to parent the way you do.

;-)

==================

IDK what Joan and Mel had in mind, but I guess in some regard, it did launch her reality tv career. After Joan and Melissa did CA in '09 they started Fashion Police in '10 and then they had their own reality tv show, "Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best?" that ran from '11-'14.

On a related note, I have been watching a British reality tv show and it's quite delightful. Anyone else watching The Great British Baking Show? It's down to five contestants at this point. What I love is that there is no back-stabbing, no ramped up drama. I also really appreciate how gracious the contestants are to each other, and when they are eliminated. No "Melissa Rivers" behavior there.

****

YES! I've been watching and enjoying it, also. Talk about seriously talented amateur bakers - wow that show sure has 'em! I like the British food shows because they're all business compared to the US shows which focus on the contrived conflict and drama which detract from the point of the show, which 'should' be the food and cooking.

Readerlady - your story about the two stuffed bears you got and your mother lovingly mended over the years reminds me of my little sister, who got a Smoky the Bear from our maternal grandmother. She loved that bear and my mom did the same as yours - carefully washed it, mended it, and tucked my sister into bed each night with Teddy. Sadly, Teddy eventually became so worn out he couldn't be mended, but by then my sister had outgrown him.

Formerly Duped - like your son, mine too has a "blankie" from his infancy. It was a baby shower gift from a co-worker - a green blanket with satin trim around the edges. I still have that blanket, well worn, well loved, tucked into a bottom drawer of a dresser and I'll always keep it.

I would never have threatened to take away that blanket from my son. I will never forget how horrified I was at that scene. Little Collin crying his eyes out as his gestational carrier screamed in his face, all over a little gum. And yes, Mady was the one who came to Collin's defense and tried to mediate the situation. Considering the environment in which she was raised, the way she's been treated by her mother all her life, I see her "brattiness" as a defense mechanism and completely understandable. Good behavior has never been modeled for her, and she and Cara were treated as second class citizens from the moment the tups were born. Who can blame her for the frustration and anger. We all see how capricious Kate can be; how arbitrary her rules and regulations are. In that, she's just like Donald Trump. She makes up rules as she goes along, then changes the rules without notice whenever she feels like it. She buys them things with the expressed intent that she will take those things away as "punishment." But she gives and takes all as a way to control the children. She's finding out that's a bad path to travel, as rebellious teenagers will do exactly the opposite of what you want, even if it's not something they really want to do, just to defy you (the parent). If she thinks it's tough going now, just wait.

Kate did it again. She said, "who is the most asianest". Yes, she did. First of all, Asianest is not a word. And second, she is using a double superlative.
*****
Can she not even bring herself to mention her kids' Korean heritage?
It's pretty damn ignorant to call her kids Asian, when Asia is a continent, not a language or nation.
Kate should be teaching her kids not to make general assumptions about anyone based on their physical attributes.
Can you imagine a mother asking her kids who's the most white or black?
It only serves to cause divisiveness, and it promotes judgement based on what one looks like.
*****************
It's "ignorant" to refer to her children as Asian? I'm going to assume you don't actually know any Asians, because the term "Asian" is used all the time by...Asians. Future episodes? Christmas, probably not. Jon had them quite a bit. He did let them spend Christmas Eve with TFW but not long enough for filming a decent episode. Super Bowl, probably not either. She tweeted her snack "spread" and it was pathetic. If TLC were filming she would have had a catered banquet.

I think it is very likely that they have already agreed to film over spring break. She was seen in the area of Discovery HQ around January 19th. The first special episode ratings were in at 1.8 million which was pretty good. They would have had to start the planning process around that time to ensure proper logistics for crew, equipment, and transportation. I fearlessly predict another working vacation for the kids next month along with a 40th birthday party for TFW. Episodes to air in June and if the ratings are still decent they will do another Summer vacation and back-to-school special.

I also think filming during school time won't happen again. The new regulations are quite strict when it comes to filming minors during normal school times and limits the number of hours that can be filmed in total each week they are in school. Filming during extended breaks is going to be the only way TLC gets enough footage for a show.

Mel said...

I don't know that it's generally ignorant to refer to them as Asian, but in that context I think it was. It was an effort to minimize Jon as much as possible. A subtle put down, of which TFW is the master.

Don't refer to his specific heritage, just some general thing about oh, yeah, he's something, Asian I guess. Ignorant..not caring enough to figure it out...kind of like her excitedly telling the children that they 'speak Asian' here, during their San Francisco trip.

The whole point, according to TFW, was to educate the children about their heritage. Which is Korean. Why else would they do a specifically Korean meal?

It was just for a story line anyway. Probably not something that was a huge topic amongst them at the time.

This! This is where the disconnect lies. No Kate, YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE EVEN THOUGHT IT!

You were power tripping on a toddler over a bit of gum! No mother worth her salt would even consider throwing away their child's beloved comfort toy for ANY REASON.

You lovingly wash it, you painstakingly repair it and you carefully preserve it. Only sick person would consider throwing it away and only a monster would actually threaten their child directly with such a thing.

And screw you blaming it on your age. I was 19 when I had a toddler and even I knew better than that. So take your little (eye roll) and shove it.

You should have been mortified, embarrassed and ashamed not defensive and indignant.

With my kiddo's dawg lovey whenever it needed some patching up, I gladly sewed him back together. Even SECRETLY sacrificing "unliked" stuffed animals to make sure his dawg was all fluffy. Dawg is also currently in a position of honor on the bed in the guest room. Kiddo is grown up, but Dawg was his everything lovey for so long. He's glad to know that Dawg is still here. Like my Mr MonkeyMonkey, Dawg was given to him by his great gramma when he was born.

I'll never understand how a mom, such as Kate, would use her child's favorite lovey in a power play or threaten (if even joking) to callously throw it away. Mr MonkeyMonkey was so important to me as a child, that I felt like it was my responsibility/honor to take the same loving care of my kiddo's Dawg as my mom did Mr MonkeyMonkey.

I understand taking toys away as punishment, been there, done that. But never ever did I take away his Dawg. I even made sure to have him washed, dried & back in place (did it while he was in school) without kiddo ever missing him. Their lovey is their confidant, their bestest friend when they have problems, an ear to listen when they are upset or angry, the friend that catches their tears, always understands & is always on their side. How could any LOVING parent even think to threaten to take that away from a child?

Awww, Dawg and Mr. MonkeyMonkey, I love it. See, THAT'S what Mom's do.

Daughter, 19, still has Bear. He was a birthday gift bought for her from the hospital gift shop the day she was born.

He's been dropped in puddles, barfed on more times than I can count and even has a prosthetic (made of yarn) arm. I always considered it a privilege to keep him clean and repaired for her.

Poor thing was accidentally dropped in a mall parking lot when Daughter was about 3. Hubby went out in the middle of winter, after dark to go find him.

I can't fathom ever considering, let alone threatening, throwing him away...it's mind boggling to me. She really has no heart.

In last thread, I mentioned Entertainment Weekly radio show I listened to on XM Tuesday morning. Amanda, the Trump organization VP who does "desk duty" On CA, was interviewed. She was asked about who is really nice, who she really liked, and she mentioned that nicest contestants are people who always say hello to her and take the time to learn her name. She mentioned Leeza, the Jonas brother, and Johnny especially. They were joking about Geraldo calling her "the lady who sits at the desk" when she called to let them know the other team was completely fired. She said she gave him a pass, because they don't generally use the phone in that room. Amanda says she helps producers with prep for some tasks, like the Doral one, because she is a VP in property management. She has also worked with Ivanka and her line. They asked if she would ever take on a judging role, she said no, someone has to man the desk and tell the contestants when to go in. Sounds like she is available to help with lots of things on the production.
Also asked about future seasons. She had not heard anything, but knew producers were very happy with the ratings for this edition.
I can see some celebs not bothering to learn the name of folks who they don't interact with often. I can also see DT being cagey enough to surprise contestants with fact the desk lady is actually a skilled and experienced VP.

_________________________________

You are right on all counts, but I don't think she will ever realize or believe that she is at fault for engineering that bad path. She will never take responsibility or blame for being the source of her children's bad behavior. She will think her kids are acting out in spite of all her perfect parenting, not because of how badly she has treated them. It is either willful ignorance or narcissistic obliviousness.

Yeah. The whole thing seemed like a really odd conglomeration of highlights. Not what I would have chosen to highlight, if it was me they were highlighting.

It almost seemed like the choosing of clips was done by someone other than TFW. Whoever it was didn't dare choose the blatantly bad clips, but they did choose clips that didn't make her look particularly good, either. A little needling, perhaps?

YES! I've been watching and enjoying it, also. Talk about seriously talented amateur bakers - wow that show sure has 'em! I like the British food shows because they're all business compared to the US shows which focus on the contrived conflict and drama which detract from the point of the show, which 'should' be the food and cooking.
***
One of the worst I've seen is Alton Brown's Cutthroat Kitchen. I watched it one time and found it a horrible concept for a supposed cooking show. If you haven't seen it, it follows the same formula as all of Food Network's competition cooking shows. Three contestants, three rounds, one winner of $10K. The twist in this one is that Alton Brown brings out all these ridiculous contraptions and unlucky contestants have to either wear them, or sit in them, or otherwise be burdened by them during that particular round. What that has to do with proving you can cook really well, I don't know.

Wait, yes I do know. Nothing! Absolutely frickin' nothing. Alton Brown should be embarrassed to host this show.

He'll be 21 this year & I would bet everything on he would be VERY upset if I decided to get rid of Dawg now. He knows that I know how special Dawg is. And Dawg being with Mr MonkeyMonkey on the guest bed lets him see that I get it. Dawg will be here for his kids if he has them. And I know that he would make sure his child's lovey is given the same respect & tender loving care that Mr MonkeyMonkey & Dawg have been given.

Apples and oranges comparison, many African Americans don't KNOW their exact origins from Africa. Kate does know her children's origins.

I have two Nigerian friends who say they are Nigerian, not African-American. That's because they know. I have other friends who identify more with African-American. They know their ancestors were slaves but lack more details, or their ancestry is from all over. They don't know enough to say they are from this or that country. Moreover countries were generally contrived by the whites who colonized, and many blacks choose not to identify with a white sanctioned country when their ancestry is more tribal based, perhaps often even nomad, than borders-defined by colonization- based.

It would be strange for a second generation Mexican living in England to call themselves North American. No, they would say they are Mexican.

Millicient - On Cutthroat Kitchen each of the 4 contestants is given $25K at the start of the show. In each round they are told what they have to cook and have 60 seconds to go to the pantry and get what they need. Then Alton brings out the "contraptions" and the contestants bid for them using their money. If they win they give it to the competitor of their choice and that competetor has to use it. There's only one judge and (s)he doesn't know what was given to whom and just judges on taste and eliminates the worst dish. The ultimate winner gets to keep whatever amount of money (s)he hasn't spent during the auction.

What does it have to do with proving you can cook? I've seen contestants make some really inventive dishes that have actually won. So, there's that. But yes, it is kind of a dumb show. I watch if there's nothing else on.

I don't know Mel, I didn't watch the specials but I consider "gumgate" one of Kate's worst MoMents (see what I did there?) ever.

That, and denying the boys their birthday cupcakes (an episode I thankfully missed) and denying a thirsty child water then drinking some right in front of her.

IMO, those would be the top three caught on camera. I don't like to think about what goes on without the cameras.

What I really don't understand is that Kate insists she's the new, improved, older, wiser, more compassionate version of herself.

Yet she can't even muster enough humility to be embarrassed by that clip. She can only act like an insolent adolescent justifying and making excuses.

It sure doesn't bode well for Kate ever having any sort of epiphany or great revelation. If it's right in her face and she still can't see it...well.

Another thing about her "young me" tweet in response...you were what Kate...early thirties? Collin was TWO and a half, maybe THREE!

I assume that's fairly satisfactory to TLC.

I think strategery-wise (how's that one?!), it was smart of TLC to call 5 episodes a "season", so that the fatigue-factor from her previous season was mitigated.
Still, CA didn't give Kate the same bump that DWTS did.

He doesn't sleep with them, but he just wants them there. We're talking about a jock, 6'4" college quarterback who could have made pro if he would have worked at it a bit.

I just wanted to share a story about a beloved stuffed animal.

My sister had a favorite stuffed bear for years. It was a little on the big size, especially when you're just a little kid. It was probably only 24" or so. It wasn't a quality stuffed animal. It was from a cheap store. Someone gave it to her, I don't remember who. Maybe our dad when she was sick. Regardless, she adored that bear.

My mother hated it. Maybe because she thought it was cheap looking or too big to put in our toy box, because she didn't like to see toys out. I don't know what her reason was. But she kept threatening to throw it away and my sister would cry and beg her not to.

When it seemed like she was going finally throw it away for real, my sister made up a picket sign out of cardboard and a yardstick. It said SAVE MY BEAR. SAVE TEDDY. She walked around the house with that thing shouting Save my bear! Save Teddy! She was so cute. I guess she was maybe 10 years old, no older.

Well, it didn't matter. When my sister was in school, my mother cut open her bear, took out all the stuffing and made two little pillows out of it for my mother's bed.

When my sister came home and went to throw something in the kitchen trash, she saw her beloved bear's floppy head and body, totally gutted, right on top of all the garbage. It was like my mother made a point of letting her see him like that. Didn't try to hide it, but instead displayed it at the top of the garbage.

My sister was devastated. She was hysterical crying and my mother didn't even care. My mother also showed her the pretty little pillows she made with the stuffing.

To this day my sister hasn't forgiven her for that. It was just done in such a heartless and cruel way. Very typical for my mother.

All this talk about the loveys and stuffed animals brought back a memory that I haven't thought about in years. I had a stand up stuffed animal that was a light tanned dog named Sam that was smiling and his tongue was sticking out. I LOVED that dog. He had a gold colored chain for a collar. I was about 10 or 11.

My dad went berserk one day and threatened to cut Sam's tongue out and then decided on his tail. I was crying, begging, pleading for him not to do it. He loved the state of despair I was in, just like kate. The more I begged, cried and pleaded the worse he was. He always carried a pocket knife and he cut his tail off.

Well, he thought he did. It hung on for YEARS with one or two threads
being moved around and place to place. I still have it, I hope in my things somewhere. He went berserk before Sam and got a huge knife and cut my beautiful elephant ear plant that was in my room, a couple of years before that. My great aunt had given it to me and I took care of it. I didn't do anything to provoke him to do things like this. I have often thought that he and TFW have similarities, but didn't realize it till all about the talk of the stuffed animals. I am not upset about it being on the blog. I am glad. It helped me remember, so I could deal with it.

IIRC, TFW was on such a high tormenting Colin's lovey, I remember her jumping up and down. Does anyone remember this? I watched a clip of worse moments and it was swiffered. I could try to find it.

Yes, ITA that TFW had a ton of anger built up against Jody and took it and dumped it on poor Colin. Seeing little Mady stand next to Colin, crying and had her arm around him begging her mother not to throw the lovey away was HEARTBREAKING!

Why didn't that Crew Daddy swing that camera around "by accident" and knock that witch out!!!! How does that CD sleep at night?

Not sure how much time she had with Leeza, but guessing she did not make the most of it. Being that she wants some career in front of the camera (in her 40's) there aren't lots of choices, and within those choices, how many opportunities does one with so little experience have, so here she is on the set with Leeza Gibbons, who has her hands in all sorts of projects, and Kate blows it.

Kate retweeted this:

and of course this one: Kate Gosselin @Kateplusmy8 · Jan 5
Wow. Took over? Easy there... #IfYouWantedPM #YouShouldHaveSaidSo #TooScared

I think CA is a joke, but Kate could have made some connections, and sorry being on the bottom rung of that group, she should have been more gracious.
Kate's ego and stubbornness get in her way. Again that inability, complete unwillingness to compromise for anyone! She would rather lose an opportunity than compromise, and she has, how many times now?

I think Brandi however did take advantage, worked her tail off and has made a few friends. Early on Leeza took a liking to Brandi and almost seemed to take her under her wing. I would not be surprised to see her transition from reality TV into some other area of entertainment. I hope we do.

That is a brutal story, just brutal. Giving it away would have been one thing, but cutting it open almost feels like murder. She couldn't have picked up fabric for her stupid pillows at a store? I would call her a witch, but I fear that is insulting to witches.

I just want to say that I've enjoyed the lovey stories. I've kept my kids' for them and I also have my own as well as the little dog that belonged to my brother, who died.

It was shocking that TLC showed that gum scene--obviously just trying to stir up controversy and raise some eyebrows. Anything for ratings, right, TLC? And also the "unnawears" comment as well as one of the babies having a big poop accident--they showed the poop and named the little girl. I'm sure THAT was fun for her at school today.

TLC keeps running their slogan: "Everyone needs a little TLC." Everyone but the Gosselin children, I guess.

Really?

Narcissist Mom and redbirdsings, I had similar parents. I won't go into it, but it was brutal and terrifying at times. My dad died 8 years ago and my mom's husband died last year, leaving me in charge of a disastrous estate and her, who now has dementia. It has been a horrible year but details were ironed out gradually and everything is OK now.
The best piece of advice I got from a lifelong friend (who knew none of this stuff until recently) is, "Just do your best and do the right thing. You don't want to regret that you were as awful to her as she was to you." He's right. I did it through gritted teeth and it got done. She's in a safe place and if they medicate her until she's drooling in the corner so she's not trying to punch them again, so be it.
I think it's interesting that so many of us were drawn to this whole saga because we recognized something in either the parents or the reactions of the kids to the parenting. I wanted to like her, but it was hard. My turning point is when they were at some vacation house and they were making 'her' famous flag cake, and a couple of the kids who had not been banished were eating a few berries. She was screaming at them to stop eating. It would have been easier to let them finish this random and small number of berries and wash the container, than have a small container in the fridge that could give each kid one berry. It was done with such force. Her way or the high way. Over a few berries.

I haven't read here in the last day or so, but I did catch a bit of CA last night. What caught my attention was The Donald talking about how he like smart, hard working people. I wonder how long it took him to figure out that Kate was neither. What got her on the show in the first place? Did he feel sorry for her, although he's not known to be a warm fuzzy guy. Maybe he thought she needed/deserved a break? Who knows. Maybe he thought she'd bring in a few viewers. Sounded like Trump was really proud of some of the very big dollar amounts some of his past winners brought in. Talking $600,000 to over a million dollars. What did Kate bring in, one $30,000 check? No way was she going ay farther. He figured out she had no connections to money or how to get any donations. What a total embarrassment, she would have been to go any further. For her fans still believing she was fired too soon, what planet are these people on? It's a show to get some BIG donations for charity. She failed.

................................

Trump probably thought she was going to bring more drama. If he wanted that, he should have had Kate and Jon appear on the same show.

If Kate's team had lost the second task when she was project manager, no doubt she would have been fired. She did appear to be a hard worker in the first task, but being that it was all about fundraising, sweat did not matter.

Even though it was only one donor, Kate did wind up raising more money than Gilbert, Terrill, the two Olympians and perhaps a couple of the others.

Am I the only one who does not care for the fundraising tasks having such a big part in the show? One task focusing on getting donations is enough.

Trying to catch up with this very busy blog. Did not watch the TFW's show, but not surprised at all by the responses. Not sure why TLC did a "flashback" show but am sure TLC was trying to hook people in to the "old days" or were using her show as a filler. Quite frankly, I am fairly sure, the kids did not enjoy this segment, as they have lived it, and want to move on from the past. TFW not so much.

Her mother mentioned way back when that TFW would carry a book around about twins all of the time. (not sure who wrote it, but stuck in my head).

Regardless, she had the twins, and was still not happy. But chose to up the anty, when the twins did not bring her the "fame" or attention she thought she deserved after taking them to talent agents. Thus- the manufactured tups. And websites for things they needed, donations, a gazillion helpers, nurse, etc..

Then she cut off some of her family as they did not approve of her choices, and later Jody, Beth, Kevin, etc,,,,,as it was no longer about family/friends but rather herself. The list goes on and on, but she made it all about her. NEVER EVER feed the narcissist. Jon gone, after she was traveling with TFM and she told him that she no longer wanted to be with him, except for the camera. This after he quit his job to keep HER happy with having help with the kids.

TFW would get up at 8am, have the twins watch the tups , feed them, put them down for 4-5 hours naps after lunch, until the twins came home. Jon would handle all other duties (bathing, diaper changes, etc... But HONESTLY, how much time did she spend with the tups, never mind the twins who were babysitters. Never mind the continued Carla, Nana Janet, Jodi, and constant calls to Jon when she was loosing it.

How do you put 6 kids in a room for 4-5 hours, until the twins come home, and then complain about loaded diapers and bad behavior while possibly being locked in their room for hours? It is amazing that no kid ever came down during the long naps.

Mady is resentful, Cara has checked out, Jon was not longer viable, the girl tups (the A Team of the tups) are obnoxious, and the boys are the B Team. Is this really anything to be proud of???

When you use people constantly and throw them away, always find fault, have a huge ego, are clearly a delusional narcissist, and can not get along with 99% OF PEOPLE, probably time to re-evaluate your issues. Never mind her recent angry digs at Leeza, really? And pretty much anyone who calls her out on her behavior. She refuses to take responsibility ever, and therein lies the problem.

How can one create some much chaos, have problems getting along with anyone, and still not take responsibility after all of these years? Seriously.

TFW is getting very testy, so it might be hitting a nerve from CA feed back. She certainly does not care what the public thinks, as she has said time and time again. She basically said you delete emails or block tweets (which I am fine with as I do neither to her), but I have seen egotistical people take a huge fall, as they refuse to see themselves for who they truly are and have become.

I do have to say that her recent tweets have hit a nerve with her, but most likely due to her ego, and no self-awareness or desire to change. Finally all of the kids, but especially the boys need to spend time with Jon, without any tattle tales. If she misses this mark, I really don't think it will serve the boys well. Not about her but what might help her boys out in the long run. It's called "selfless." : )

Sorry so long but the recent shows revealed a lot.

There were moments that were lifted directly out of that documentary, and that documentary made me almost sob in spots. The actors in The Good Lie are actually some of the Lost Boys of Sudan. But God Grew Tired of Us literally follows some of them from Kenya to various cities in the US and documents their transition to America. It is very interesting, funny at times, and touching at others. If you see the documentary, you don't really need to see The Good Lie. It's like a movie with the extra character of Reese Witherspoon thrown in, to show it from her perspective too.

There was a scene at the house in Maine where Mady was hugging Aaden's head from behind and he was smiling and it was done in a very sweet, loving manner.

I still think it was an odd conglomeration of clips. Yes, there were a few of the major ones, but only snippets of them, so you didn't get the full effect of her drama queen act. Or just how much she terrorized the kids.

For example, the airplane one just showed her bursting into tears, and not all the chaos of the kids prior to that while she ignored them (Steve sitting right behind her, looking stupid).

Or the blanket one, there was more to that than what they showed last night. She was on a tear that time. That whole episode was a scream fest.

They surely must have had some better footage they could have shown. Surely? Why would she have chosen the clips she did when there were other ones that didn't make her look so bad?

There were times in the beginning when she showed affection to the kids, and to Jon. She and Jon used to be kind of cute together, the way he teased her and she'd laugh back.

They missed a lot of the other nasty highlights...the Alaska meltdown-lots of footage there, cupcake gate, the Crayloa factory, Mady crying that the tups got 3 parties while the twins got one, vomitfest, she's ruined at Disney Land, coupon gate, scrubbing the frig at the new house with a toothbrush while completely ignoring the kids, screaming at Jon in Toys R Us, constipation gate, screaming at Jon to watch the kids while she sat in her white lawn chair and did nothing, the latest paint gate.

I can't figure showing snippets of a few of the bad ones, quite a few stupid ones, and then not finding much for nicer ones. It was just weird what they chose, out of all the ones they could have chosen.

These were the ones she was most proud of?? That was the best of the best??

Narcissist Mom - Your story about your sister's stuffed bear is just heartbreaking. I can't fathom how anyone could be so cruel.

I have a confession. I still have my Teddy Bear from when I was a kid. He sits quietly in my closet these days. He isn't the softest little guy because his face and ears are made of some kind of vinyl material. One of his ears is missing and the other is partly broken off. His eyes are closed and his mouth is turned down like he is very sad. I'm not sure why I got a sad Teddy Bear, but I loved him very much. My mom used to tell me that he smiled when I hugged him close to my heart. I always tried to sneak a peek as I hugged him tight to see if I could see him smiling. Obviously, I never did see him smile, but I love that memory.

I still think it was an odd conglomeration of clips.......

These were the ones she was most proud of?? That was the best of the best??

The things that are "fond memories" for Kate have always been the ones that make me cringe the most. Don't get me started on "X pooped in X's unnawears". Never should have been broadcast, full stop, yet it is a favorite of Kate and her faithful sheep.

I didn't watch last night. Did they show Kate's meltdown on the plane ride to Utah where she screamed and cried like a baby because "somebody HAD to"?

They did show for a brief moment Kate crying on the plane along with her kids. And guess what, I think I saw Beth sitting on that every plane. Did anybody see her?

It will be curious to see what she does in the next few months to continue to keep herself relevant. She is running out of options. Maybe she'll off the nonprofit although her benefactor is a sleaze.

...................................

Though she will not do well, she could try to get on Survivor. Or try to get with Jamie (her BFF, not the Olympian) or Shawn to go on the Amazing Race. Or go to Couples Therapy with Jon - some good may come out of that if they can co-parent effectively afterward. Or stoop to the bottom of the barrel with Big Brother. Not many good options left if her show is indeed done.

That's like saying it's ridiculous to refer to someone as Caucasian instead of specifying the precise country or countries of origin.

...............................

I know many people of Asian descent and do not know of any who would find the description to be offensive. A more specific description is used when a particular country of origin is involved, but saying someone is Asian is like saying someone is white. The same goes for the previously used term oriental. I have no idea how that got to be unPC.

The discussion about being Asian naturally came up in the Gosselin home because Daddy obviously looks different than Mommy, and not only gender. They might have picked the word Asian instead of Korean because it was easier for the kids to say That who is more or less Asian discussion is because Alexis' hair is noticeably lighter than the others.

If the boys ever hear this song, will they go around singing "secret Asian man" like we did when we were kids?

Why on earth include Gumgate in this new special? It did not show TFW in a good light and even she knew it, based on her half-assed explanation tweet

And TFW didn't care enough to view/approve them ahead of time? Or select her own?

..........................................

If they only showed kind, loving clips, Kate would not be able to claim it was oh so difficult raising the kids. Plus as we discussed several days ago, motherly clips are pretty rare - not enough for an hour recap show.

I guess that sometimes it's difficult to let go of your childhood, even when starting a new life as a husband. I would imagine that in the years to come, his own children will love Bunny and Bear as much as he did.

How do you put 6 kids in a room for 4-5 hours, until the twins come home, and then complain about loaded diapers and bad behavior while possibly being locked in their room for hours? It is amazing that no kid ever came down during the long naps.

They have come out and as I recall, are sentenced to an additional 45 minutes in the dark room.

1.444 million, huh? Not too bad, but...K+8's last finale (Sept 2011) got 2.066 million (thank you, archives!). K+8 will just never be a hit show, and TLC knows it. And then there's Kate's demands for filming...for upcoming episodes she is going to want braces for 5-6 kids who haven't had them, bigger trips, more home improvements, more new furniture, Steve's salary, handlers for the kids, plus a big paycheck. She wants the old days back, not just a few updates here and there until TLC loses interest. Never going to happen!

Yes, TFW brought that on herself, and she should have said no to it. She should have recognized her limits.

But still, that jump traumatized and terrorized her. It wasn't funny. And her body reaction (over which she had no control) frightened her children immeasurably. Also not funny.

I can't understand someone who purports to be your friend laughing about it. That's just plain mean.

She talked about having pet rabbits and how her father killed them and made her eat them. Why put the kids through that grief over the lobsters?

-------------

Can you believe anything she says?
********
I don't quite believe this either. I don't believe Kate's parents bought her pets, then decided to make stew out of them.
I think Kate loved the rabbits and got attached, but they were always going to be food.
I'm sure it was hard, but instead of coming away from this experience with an understanding that meat comes from cute (many times) and snuggly animals, Kate became silly and maudlin.
Look, this is how many people survive- there's a huge chunk of Americans whose meat and food comes from the land (their land or other), and not wrapped in cellophane in the meat and produce section.

Bottom line is that don't think Kate's dad is a monster, he's just fallen victim to Kate's fractured, dichotomous mind which categorizes people as really good, or really bad.

Wegmans is so awesome, I didn't know that. There was a Wegmans in town, maybe that's why they settled them there. It was one of those things where I was one foot out the door to college when they settled in my town, I left and never heard about them again. Now suddenly there is renewed interest in what happened to them, with this movie and 60 Minutes doing a little piece on them a short time ago. With Bob Simon, I believe. :( Still in shock he's dead.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

I also don't believe Kate's story that her dad was a psychopath who killed her pet rabbit. Not credible, Kate.

I believe they may have been raising rabbits for food and that despite her father's warnings they were for food Kate befriended them anyway, over his objections. That's on her. I said so in the recap, which I promise is almost done! hehe

I think her view of her childhood is through her own lens. I think her childhood went something like this, In her eyes, her pet rabbit was killed and she was made to eat little Peter Cottontail. In her dad's eyes, he said Kate, please do NOT befriend our food source, please stop. Don't go back there if you must.

In Kate's eyes, she was deprived of a childhood of lobsters and trips. In her parent's eyes, they did not think things like lobsters or trips were what was essential to raising good well rounded children and that their money was better spent elsewhere, like perhaps sending Kate up to Canada with her grandparents to go hang out on their boat, because they valued their child spending quality time with her grandparents in the piece and tranquility of Canada's lakes. Did Kate think she got to Canada for free? It sounds to me like there were fundamental values differences between her and her parents, not bad parenting. Based on everything she has said, I'm more inclined to both feel sorry for her parents and give them the benefit of the doubt.

You're right, not funny. I think I had the same gobsmacked look those kids had when I first saw it. I felt sorrow for those kids. To see they had to step up to the plate, yet again, to console their emotional vampire of a mother. She didn't just put herself through something awful, she sucked those kids into her emotionally unstable vortex that is her being. The kids were just as traumatized as she was. Which is freaking bullshit since she didn't have to do it and then AND THEN she claims she CONQUERED IT?? She laughs about it...oh the stories those kids will have to tell

Annon...I saw Beth on the plane as well and Steve sitting there with a look on his face that said he was either constipated or somebody was pulling his anal hairs.

This last episode didn't cost TLC any money. Blah, blah blah. A couple of parts stood out to me.

TFW is saying that they are outgrowing their present house (6700/6800 sf) just like they outgrew their last house. WTF! What an ignorant, selfish ass. There are plenty of public spaces in that house and they are huge. Yes, the bedrooms are small but the kids don't play in their bedrooms. Everything seems to be in the basement.

Her best memories are not just best memories but "tippy top" best memories. Huh? Who says that at 40 years old.

Her screaming when she saw the whales in Alaska was over the top. My 18 month old grandaughter screams less than she does.

When they brought the puppies home and they were in the basement, she walked right past the puppy when it started peeing. If she knew anything about anything, she would have known puppies pee alot, she should've been paying attention, and if she was she could have immediately picked up the puppy and brought it right outside and let it do it's business. But alas, just like having multiples, she likes the idea but doesn't like the work.

My favorite part again was at the Sky Jump and the employee laughing his ass off as TFW was freefalling down. Priceless.

I noticed in TLC's promotion of "everyone needs a moment like this, everyone needs a little TLC", TFW was no where to be found. Oh well.

We're expecting more snow today and another storm Saturday night into Sunday with the possibility of 12" plus. I love snow but COME ON! Enough is enough.

Did not watch the clip show, but if you say the clips were an odd assortment, and Kate was "producer", then I think she had an intimate hand in selecting those clips. Of course, Figure 8 edited them, so I am thinking any bad clips were inserted to give Kate an opportunity to express how much she's changed or to laugh at herself. It's all part of the master reinvention plan, IMO.

Watching WW day before yesterday or yesterday, she was talking about Kanye going up on stage and ruined Beck's moment. Then the ranting and raving interview by E!? and him saying that Beck should give Beyoncé HIS grammy!

I thought it was so funny, WW was letting Kanye have it and at the end said, He is:

Certifiable-ish! And when she said, ish, she quickly bounced her head to accentuate it. I wonder if WW picked that up from TFW when she was there. TFW instantly was buttering up WW when she came out and hugged WW! I clearly heard TFW say really quietly, YOU ARE SO SKINNY! And WW while they were still hugging said, SO ARE YOU!

GAG!

Hoping Trump asks some of the CA's about working with TFW and I hope they RIP HER A GOOD ONE! I think she will leave today or tomorrow and stay in Trump Plaza with Steve until Sunday night for the finale and stay the next day or two after that. Hopefully, she will, so the kids will get a several day break and spend time with their

You're probably right. I agree that there is a reinvention plan going on.

I think that she got some conniving ideas from when she was on CA.

She saw all the star treatment people were getting for their personal charities, like Leeza's Care Connections. She saw a great opportunity for travel/makeup/hair/bodyguard/large salary-for-doing-nothing (she doesn't notice all the hard work that goes into it) and she was on it. Voila! Her own charity! That's the ticket!

===============

That's my take on it, too. For everything Kate is or is not, she was genuinely terrified. It's a true phobia--that wasn't pretend or for the cameras. She's not that good an actress! But good ol' #1 Fan calls it a "ridiculous scream" that makes her and her husband "laugh every time."

So Kate being terrified is amusing to Milo? She just said it. Throw in the tweets pretending Milo was driving to Kate's house (which she knew was unnerving Kate), and you have a scary profile.

That's a screwball family. Milo tweeted last night that her older teenage son was teasing the younger sister "mercilessly" for the allergic reaction. Seriously? What a mean, bizarre family.

With apologies to PJ and Franky, who I know don't want to give her any more attention than necessary ... which is fair enough, this person is really over the top. If anyone is ever going to show up at Kate's door--she's the one.

===========

That's it exactly! Everything is over the top this week. As AuntieAnn said, next mothman will be on her roof (LOL!!)

When Kate's shows are on, Milo always makes a condescending comment about all the new tweeters taking up Kate's time and attention. Milo wants it all for herself. Just like she wants Kate all for herself and would love to tuck her in and be Kate's own private Lights out Woman. (Ewwww.)

Yes, she seems to have mentioned outgrowing their house several times in these episodes. She said they were outgrowiing the house because of all their clutter (cleaning house ep), she said something about the house being too small due to the number of stuffed animals (when souvenir shopping), and apparently she said it again during the finale.

TLC, take note! Kate wants a bigger house! That means there had better be lots of filming coming up so she can afford it. I think some of the desire may be due to the fact that the bedrooms are so small and the kids are getting older. They want to spend time in their rooms, have a little privacy, instead of hanging out in the basement with all their siblings. Mady said last summer that all she did was sit in her bed all the time. And where is Kate going to put more bedrooms when more kids want their own rooms?
