The Duggar Interview: 11 things the Duggars are still hiding

InTouch has a great breakdown post-interview of the Duggar's slant on the truth.

Among the eleven things the Duggars are still hiding, says the magazine, are:

  • The Duggars waited over four years to get counseling for Josh.
  • The child services investigation reports have never been released, despite the Duggars implying they were.
  • The family likely has no leg to stand on in a lawsuit, as nothing improper was done. In fact it would have been illegal not to release the records.
  • Judge Zimmerman, who ordered the records destroyed after they were already turned over to the media, made the order without properly giving the media an opportunity to contest her order. A law professor and former U.S. attorney called the court order "odd," pointing out that usually in such a situation the records are ordered sealed, not destroyed.
Realitytvkids.com adds:
The man behind the year's biggest reality show story: David Perel.
  • The Duggars outright said that the release of the information could have been a bribe, but don't have a shred of evidence to support such a malicious contention.
  • Mike Huckabee, whom the Duggars quoted during the interview and count as a supporter, swiffered all traces of the Duggars from his web site just before the interview.
  • The judge who ordered the records destroyed was appointed twice by Duggar (former) ally Huckabee.

Check out InTouch for more.

For more reading, check out why InTouch's investigation exposing one of America's most famous conservative-religious political families was of Pulitzer caliber.  "Solid," says the editors at The Washington Post. Editor David Perel, who led the InTouch investigation, was nominated for a Pulitzer, though didn't win, in 2010 for his work on the John Edwards scandal. Nominations are typically announced in January.

We are all so very worried about and for him. Terrified, actually. He is sweet, gentle, and loving, but he is so very lonely. I don't think I've ever heard him laugh.

He goes to a clinic about a hundred miles away once a year where they reevaluate his meds, stays for a week of observation and therapy and then sent back home. It's not enough by any stretch of the imagination.

As a country, we have so far to go when it comes to treating people for mental health disorders.
It's so unfair.

Geez, from People:

Jessa (Duggar) Seewald is past the halfway mark in her pregnancy and she's really starting to feel her little one move.

"Baby Seewald is growing steadily and Mommy has been feeling some little, yet strong, kicks!" she and husband Ben, 19, wrote in an update titled "Grateful and Blessed" on their blog on Wednesday.

"We recently had an ultrasound, but aren't revealing our firstborn's gender yet," they continued. "Can't wait to welcome this blessing from God into the world!"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well-said. I wish more people did not vote for gender, race, because it's 'their' party, because it's popular opinion etc. Think, people out there! Women worked hard and sacrificed for our right to vote so choose wisely and at least inform yourself enough to make a sensible mark on that ballot.
Dmasy claw through corpses lol. Sadly that's sometimes not just a metaphor when it comes to politicians. There's a lot of blood on the hands of many people who have thrown their hats in the ring.
I totally get you. Do I want someone to be president because they clearly just want a medal around their neck and to feel that ego boost because they are addicted to it like drugs, or do I want someone that wants to be president because they sincerely love this country, the constitution, and are committed to serving it to the very best of their ability. Ironically, most people who really and truly have those qualities ideals wouldn't touch the job with a ten foot pole. Many have said before you'd have to be nuts to want that job and that's the problem with it, you'd have to be nuts. Thus, we get a lot of nuts applying.
I like the film the Ides of March. It's a realistic look at a political campaign. George Clooney's character says my religion is not Christian, Muslim, Jewish. My religion is the Constitution. If only we could come up with a perfect candidate in a script development meeting.
I caught a promotional clip for next weeks' TODAY show. They are doing a segment on Monday about twins and multiples. There was no mention of Kate appearing with her brood, but then I did not see the entire thing. Those kids are certainly the best known multiples, it would make to have her appear with them.
If she is not included, that certainly sends out a message from the people producing that show. She was a frequent guest on TODAY until she paraded out Mady and Cara for that disastrous interview. With any luck, they have blacklisted her after that stunt.
... things have changed. Despite its credibility issues, In Touch is asserting its place in a long lineage of tabloids that have split their coverage between playful and suggestive covers and rigorous coverage of celebrities, unearthing the sort of material that publications like People and Us Weekly are too meek or too beholden to publicists to cover. Unlike their “personality journalism” competitors, tabloids have never scoffed at infuriating the celebrity apparatus. If celebrities already hate them, the logic goes, why not dig a little deeper and get the real dirt?
That same logic guides TMZ, which has publicly vowed never to bow to publicist demands, cover red carpets, or play by the accepted rules of the celebrity game. But TMZ simply took the tried-and-true tabloid practices and transplanted them online, dominating the field while competitors like the National Enquirer tried to figure out how to make a functioning website. In Touch’s Duggar scoop thus not only recalls the heyday of the print tabloid, but also highlights its willingness to immolate the celebrity apparatus.
As Elaine Lui, a longtime gossip columnist and observer of the industry, puts it, “In Touch was willing to go where others would not: The Duggars were regular guests on the Today show, never called out for their misogyny — even supposedly proper news journalists were backing off because of the fear of evangelical backlash, which just might be even more terrifying than Hollywood backlash. But In Touch just wasn’t afraid of that demo — or decided it was worth it to risk that demo’s wrath.”
Still, it’s a curious time to double down on old-fashioned tabloid journalism. In Touch and the rest of the traditional tabloids have seen their circulation numbers plummet over the last five years. The Duggar stories may have increased web traffic to In Touch.com by 25%, but that’s 25% on a monthly average of 284,000 unique visitors — a sliver of People.com’s 26.7 million, or TMZ.com’s 23 million.
OT - A bit of OITNB trivia.
The actress who plays Red is Kate Mulgrew. She played Captain Katherine Janeway on Star Trek Voyager, the first female Starfleet Captain.
If you weren't a fan of Voyager you wouldn't recognize her at all. She does an amazing job with the Russian accent and mobster attitude in Orange.
I was already a fan and it was because of her that I started watching OITNB in the first place. I don't think I would have bothered otherwise. So glad I did.
It used to be when something this horrific happened the national conversation would be about gun control. Now, the conversation has shifted to mental heath. I find it to be an important shift, and much more on target. A weapon can always be found by someone who wants one, legal or not. But until we adequately address mental health issues, these incidents will continue to happen.
I sincerely doubt that Hillary is a narcissist, for this simple reason: She put her own, very successful, career on hold to back her husband. I don't think that would be considered typical behavior for a narcissist. who craves being the center of attention.
&&&&&
I'm not sure I follow this. Him being on the ticket gave her TONS of attention in her own right. A first lady is showered with attention without having the burden of running the country--a win win. Even Kate once tried to latch herself onto the first lady, even she knows the attention it brings. Hillary also pretty much took over the vice presidential duties from Al Gore, this is widely reported. He was very marginalized during their tenure. I would think for a narcissist, the only thing as good as being president would be being married to one. What's more, these people had a long term plan as successful people do. She knew if he were president, it would mean many more open doors for her ten, twenty years down the future.They were not just thinking 1993. They were thinking 2016. By the end of his eight years in office the focus had shifted to her and much of the media was calling her a "rising political star." It was all carefully calculated. And so here we are, sure enough.
I want a woman to be president but not if that woman is not right for the job. I will vote for a man over a woman if I think that person will be better at running our country and getting us out of this mess. If you're looking for an alternative who is a woman, there are others potential good prospects out there, like Carly Fiorina, whose parents were just an artist and a cowboy turned lawyer and judge, also worked hard, got herself highly educated, and slowly rose through the ranks to be CEO. As long as voters keep an open mind, give everyone a fair chance to present their case for the job. and don't just assume the loudest person who gets the most media attention is necessarily the best, we'll be fine.
*************************
Please stop with the lecturing tone. Your insinuation that those of us who support Hillary Clinton lack an open mind and only listen to the loudest voice in the room is insulting...and false. Just as you would never vote for Hillary Clinton, I would never vote for Carly Fiorina. Why? Because I disagree with her on virtually every issue and think she is woefully unqualified to serve as president. Therefore, she will never get my vote. I think that is a rather logical position to hold.
Exactly--she is a chess player. Obviously, anyone here can think what they want. I lived with someone who had a diagnosis of NPD, and riding on someone else's coattails is just not how they operate. You are saying that this plan has been in place since when? Since his first governor's race in 1978--38 years ago? Patience like that is another characteristic of a narcissist, who are much more to passive aggressively undermine their partner's success.
At the time he ran for president, the role of the first lady was to showcase the White House, and promote a pet cause. It was not a path to the presidency.
In the Senate, she earned the respect of Newt Gringrich, who said that he would never run or participate in a negative campaign against her. She is a tireless worker bee, who, if elected, would be the most qualified person to hold that office, in terms of education, work experience, and in the role of First Lady. I can certainly understand personally disliking her--she has a very strong personality.
I am not a knee-jerk Democrat, by any means. I was outraged at Obama's flimsy résumé and lack of accomplishment. The adoration of the masses actually made me feel sick. I was a John McCain supporter, until the unsuitability of his running mate became apparent. I seriously considered not voting that year, but, it so happened that I saw the movie "The Secret Life of Bees", two days before the election. Seeing black Americans terrorized and beaten for exercising their legal right to vote, changed my mind, and highlighted just how amazing it was that a black man had attained this milestone. Obama winning the presidency was the result of timing. Hillary's vote for the Iraq war, which, lets face it, she had to do for political reasons, sunk her. Most people never understood that as a STATE senator, Obama did not cast a vote--was nowhere near the US Senate that year. Super Tuesday happened when anti-war sentiment was rising, and she could not come back from that.
In many ways, the office of the presidency is one of historical symbolism. The fact of his election was a testament to the equality that is the promise of America, and sent a powerful message around the world.
As the mother of 2 daughters, I want a qualified woman to win the presidency. I want girls to have equal opportunity and see the rewards of working hard to attain their goals. I want the person in the Oval Office to be the smartest person in the room. I don't need to have a beer with the President, but I would love to share a Rumspringa with Hillary (someone else would have to be the designated driver for the veranda, of course!)
By the way, if it is true that this plan has been in the works for close to 40 years, then--just wow! I really want her to be President!
Yes. One major difference to me is that the real Piper went into the experience apprehensive that she would be hit on or perhaps more. Turns out everyone respected her and no one ever tried to hit on her or made her feel uncomfortable. Of course in the series, it's like soft core porn with all the sex. It kind of plays into the cliche that there are a bunch of oversexed lesbians in prison just waiting to jump the fresh fish. The real Piper found that real prisoners were actually quite polite.
I love Red. You can tell she is a legend.
The nun is real. She is a semi famous nun who went around protesting, getting arrested, thrown in jail, released, rinse and repeat. She does this for a living. The big excitement at the time for the real Piper was that Martha Stewart might be sent to their prison. Ended up no though.
This is what I don't understand about Obama saying stricter gun laws. It's come out that the young man's father bought the weapon for him. Obviously a ridiculous thing to buy for a mentally ill young man with an arrest history. But there's no evidence his father was mentally ill, had anything on his background concerning, or would not have passed the most rigorous, vigorous background check. You can background check it all you want but if someone else stable can just go and buy a weapon for their kid, it's pointless. If the young man could not get his hands on a gun, he would have gotten a switch blade or some other deadly weapon. Mental health is how we fix this. Not stricter gun laws. Until we realize that, this will continue and continue and continue, as it has.
That's exactly my feeling. There are some seriously mentally ill people out there who need a very high level of care. It is not safe for some of these people to have free access to the public as so many of our past shooters did. We need to get better at identifying these folks and treating them.
The Sandyhook reports are an interesting read because that child got a LOT of help throughout his life. Experts at his school and so on were extremely aware of his incredible mental health issues. It's not like we missed it. The issue was proper care.
Not everyone agrees that gun control is a "red herring" issue. Addressing mental health and dealing with gun control are not mutually exclusive. President Obama understands that, which is why his "Now Is the Time" initiative has resulted in many millions of dollars in grants for expanded mental health services, while also encompassing gun control.
Kayla, I read Obama's speech and I don't see what he is asking for when it comes to gun control. What does he want specifically? All I saw him say is that "at some point" something needs to happen. You've got to be more specific than that with this voter. Something or other doesn't cut it with me.
What is he proposing this time, and how would it prevent a perfectly mentally stable and appropriate person from legally obtaining a weapon, be it a gun, knife, bomb, or otherwise, then handing over said weapon to someone unstable, as is exactly, EXACTLY, what happened here?
Do you remember when Kenny Rogers had some plastic surgery and he was unrecognizable? Or poor Priscilla Presley! I'll take aging naturally for $2,000 Alex!
Besides, even if a person has plastic surgery or other interventions on their face, one look at their wrinkly aging hands will reveal their age anyway. At this point, I'm just thankful to be alive, fairly healthy, and have a nice mop of hair. So what if that comes with the normal signs of aging?
Kaya, the Now is the Time initiative, as it reads, would have done absolutely nothing to prevent this particular tragedy, as the gun, which was not a high powered military assault weapon, was NOT obtained by the perpetrator, and in fact, was obtained by someone who would have passed all of Obama's proposed restrictions with flying colors. I cannot speak for whether there are other situations it might prevent, but to bootstrap it to a tragedy it would have done nothing to prevent, is pretty disingenuous.
For better or for worse, we have an over abundance of guns in our country and fairly easy access to guns, both legal and illegal. It's a shame, but it's gone so far now, that it would be quite a task to actually decrease the number available. Plus, people can even buy parts and build their own. It's scary when you stop to think about it.
My proposal is that gun owners should have to carry liability insurance for each of their weapons, just like car owners do. Then, if their weapon discharges and causes damage, injury or death, they have insurance coverage. Guns should be registered, just as cars are, and annual registration fees imposed. That money should go into a fund to help victims of gun violence. If you sale or give your gun to someone else, you should have to do so following the rules and background checks required by gun retailers. New owner has to pass all background checks, then transfer the license/registration into the new owner's name, and before that happens, new owner has to show proof of insurance for that gun.
And once the insurance industry gets involved, negligent gun owners will find their rates are going up, or their insurance may be canceled. Insurance companies would then have to notify the proper authorities of the insurance cancellation, and police could then remove the guns from that person until they can obtain insurance again.
Guns are not toys. They are lethal weapons. As such, they should be regulated at least as much as cars. You can't drive a car until you are a licensed driver. But someone can buy their 10-year old a gun? How does that make sense? If you get a couple tickets as a new driver, your license is yanked. But people who discharge their guns unsafely often face no consequences at all. Guns, and the damage they do to people every year, need to be taken much more seriously. I won't have one in my home. I accept that some people like to hunt, and that hunting actually supplements their food. I have no problem with that. But most people do not need to own or carry a loaded gun around.
I sometimes think of Chris Rock's solution. Raise the cost of bullets to $5,000 each. (Yeah, funny but not realistic. Still, he at least offered one solution.)
LOL! That's exactly how I feel. I understand that expectant parents, especially first time parents, are excited to know whether they will be having a boy or a girl. But this somewhat cranky lady thinks it's a bit much to make a huge deal of it publicly, or to throw a gender reveal party. Lordy - you had a bridal shower, you had a huge wedding with lots of gifts, and you'll probably have at least one big baby shower. Yet you need to have another big event to announce the sex of your baby? Get over yourselves!
If Hillary (is it one L or two?) Clinton has been planning to become president since she was in college, then more power to her. I see nothing wrong with a person having a goal and then working hard toward that goal. I am not particularly enamored of her, but if she wins the Democratic nomination, then I'll vote for her. (I'm personally hoping Bernie Sanders gets the nomination, but I know that's fairly unlikely. If he gets the nomination, I'll happily vote for him.)
I don't want to get into a pie fight here over politics. But I do not see any reasonable GOP potentials in the huge field currently testing the waters. I thought Jeb Bush might be somewhat reasonable, but it turns out he's just amassing millions of dollars while still playing coy and he couldn't even answer a simple question about the Iraq War. The rest of the crop just are not even close to viable to me. I'm sorry gang, but the Republican Party has become the party that makes laws that hurt women, children, and people of color. It's become the party of wealthy, white men. That's just how I feel. Please note I'm talking about the party as an entity, about the politicians in that party -- not many of the actual Republicans that I know (who, surprise surprise, are all white, and upper middle class to wealthy, most of whom live in southern California --- my southern California relatives. I love them, but we all have an unspoken agreement to avoid political topics.)
On an up note, I did appreciate Mitt Romney stepping into the boxing ring with Evander Holyfield to raise money for charity.
1) CNN report is that Roof purchased the weapon. What is your source for your claim that someone else bought the gun?
&&&&
You can google. As a courtesy, I will tell you my source is Dylann's uncle, Carson Cowles, who put out a statement saying the gun was purchased from none other than his brother, Dylann's father Ben Roof. It was purchased approximately in April 2015 for Dylann's birthday. I have no idea who CNN's source is.
The very fact that you don't want to call this mental illness is part of what's wrong with the status of mental illness in this country. We refuse to accept it, would like to just conveniently call someone some other all encompassing name and be done with it. That way, we won't have to face that we've utterly failed the mentally ill in this country.
The Sandyhook reports are an interesting read because that child got a LOT of help throughout his life. Experts at his school and so on were extremely aware of his incredible mental health issues. It's not like we missed it. The issue was proper care.
::::::
I hold Adam Lanza'z mother responsible for the tragedy at Sandy Hook. She refused to follow the recommendations put forth by Yale psychologists and supported Adam's refusal to take meds, and there was a total lack of mental professional help during his teen years. He did NOT get a lot of help throughout his life. Furthermore school staff and people who knew him gave contradictory descriptions of his behavior. He appeared to be an enigma although it was agreed that he had mental health issues.
Add to that the fact that she had an arsenal of guns in her home that she had purchased, plus investigators found a check she'd written to Adam for the purchase of another gun...a Christmas present!
We'll never know what would have happened if she had followed through with recommendations for his treatment and received the help he so obviously needed, and IMO she needed some mental health evaluations as well.
Excerpt from Jon Stewart s monologue on the Charleston shooting. I think he gets to the point.
I honestly have nothing other than just sadness once again that we have to peer into the abyss of the depraved violence that we do to each other and the nexus of a just gaping racial wound that will not heal, yet we pretend doesn’t exist. And I’m confident, though, that by acknowledging it, by staring into that and seeing it for what it is, we still won’t do jack s—. Yeah. That’s us.
And that’s the part that blows my mind. I don’t want to get into the political argument of the guns and things. But what blows my mind is the disparity of response between when we think people that are foreign are going to kill us, and us killing ourselves.
If this had been what we thought was Islamic terrorism, it would fit into our — we invaded two countries and spent trillions of dollars and thousands of American lives and now fly unmanned death machines over five or six different countries, all to keep Americans safe. We got to do whatever we can. We’ll torture people. We gotta do whatever we can to keep Americans safe.
Nine people shot in a church. What about that? “Hey, what are you gonna do? Crazy is as crazy is, right?” That’s the part that I cannot, for the life of me, wrap my head around, and you know it. You know that it’s going to go down the same path. “This is a terrible tragedy.” They’re already using the nuanced language of lack of effort for this. This is a terrorist attack. This is a violent attack on the Emanuel Church in South Carolina, which is a symbol for the black community. It has stood in that part of Charleston for 100 and some years and has been attacked viciously many times, as many black churches have.
I was thinking of the Veranda Ladies while I was grocery shopping today. I was waiting in line to check out, when two people behind me started talking (and laughing) about The Donald. The man behind them inserted himself into the conversation. I know him. He's a history professor with I don't know how many degrees (too many to count) and a political commentator. He's also a liberal Democrat, probably as liberal as they come. I expected him to really bash Donald, but he didn't. Instead he said, "If Hillary is elected, it would be a tragedy." I caught snippets of the conversation, and he said he's been "analyzing" her for years, and this country will reap the consequences if she is put into office. This guy is really, really smart and isn't middle of the road on anything.
I was going to wait and ask him to further expand on that, but I was running late and I knew I didn't have time to get into a lengthy discussion with him, but his comments really took me by surprise. I guess she won't get all of the Democrats' votes.
Thank you for sharing your story just wondering. I hope your grandson is someday able to get the help he deserves. The state of mental health care in this country is appalling. We've come a long way, but we still have so far to go.
I'm not sure how I feel about gun control, but I think it's time we (US citizens) have a serious discussion about guns and the mentally ill. Several of my friends and acquaintances have mentioned they believe every citizen should be allowed to have a gun. I'm sorry, no. Mental illness is rampant on one side of my family, and I can easily think of at least 10 relatives that should not ever under any circumstances own a firearm. These are people and I know and love, but they are unstable despite all the help we've tried to get them.
I wish people (in general, not necessarily on this board) would have a real discussion about guns that doesn't begin and end with "they're not taking my guns from me!" because that's usually all I see.
The kids were whiny, especially the tup girls, after a minute, you wanted to duck tape their mouths, they were annoying with their whinying & yelling. The boys were so nice. Mady & Cara, were teens, and Mady told it like it was, Kate should just get over it! Referring to her turning 40 and not looking 40. Out of the mouths of babes. Kate did throw Jon under the bus: she said: I've been divorced for 5 years, and they were the BEST fives years of my life. Oh, and Kate said something interesting then corrected herself: We(meaning her and Deanna, were going to go to Mexico to celebrate there being in their 40's. then Kate corrects herself and says they are going to Mexico for her 40th birthday. So that Deanna in NYC is her, the one who is 41. And of course, Kate has the bird hanging all over her. Then Kate has to treat the tups like they are still 4-5, and not tell them where they are going, so 2 of the tup girls go upset, about her going to Mexico. So Kate showing off she know Spanish, wrote on a cake that Deanna brought, do you want to go to Mexico? After see this, why bother watching the show? They also showed some clips from the Mexico trip. Oh, and Kate says that the resort in Mexico invited her. Nice try Kate. More likely Kate was grifting, and they went for it, with probably the promise that they will get free publicity with the filming. So TLC probably got a discount or got part of it free. Next monday will be Kate fest, from 6pm -10pm this is central time. And then the 23 at 9pm central time a one hour special the tups 11th birthday, another birthday again or should I say the second birthday. Then on the 30th another one hour show. I don't know if that is it, for shows, but I think someone here said they saw it to be 6-7. So, I wonder how many of the episodes are going to rehash old adventures?
10 minutes of my life I will not get back.
This is the nearly 9 minute long preview to Kate upcoming birthday special. Some highlights:
-Kate sure has a lot of bottles of wine next to her stove
- she claims that her and Deanna have been friends for 8yrs, and Andrea and Kate have been 'friends' since before Andrea was born. Clearly Andrea is working for Kate in some capacity, as she does not say 1 word is and is only seen 'helping' Kate (decorating, preparing dinner, packing the kids lunches, serving the kids dinner, and cleaning up after dinner). Deanna does talk, but she is seen mainly working as well.
-Kate craziness and delight in showing cruelty to her kids is obscene! She actually thinks it's fun to lie to her children as a 'trick'. The children clearly are distressed by this.
-She claims that the resort invited them for three days and nights, but then is immediately shown crowing about not having to cook for 5 days. Which is it Kate, 3days or 5?
-apparently leaving the kids is a common occurrence for Kate, as one of them can be heard screeching "again?!" when she tells them that she is going to Mexico without them.
-when Leah is doing the couch interview, she says that Kate 'never spends time with them" and is always saying "see ya!".
-at the beginning of the clip the kids talk about a big project that they have coming up in the next day or two and Kate seems to have no clue about it.
-her skin looks terrible without professional make up. Lots of acne and blemishes.
-The twins and sextuplets seem to eat separately and are given very small portions of food, (1 taco and 1 small (estimate tablespoon) spoonful of beans. Kate's "friends" Andrea and Deanna are also seen eating separately standing up at the kitchen counters and are not being included by Kate.
-the unnecessary drama and bellyaching that Kate displays about her birthday is astounding!
-The kids are all basically checked out and don't look very happy. In fact, (in my opinion) they don't look like they want to participate in any of this at all, and some of them come across as quite rude and entitled. The boys are mostly silent as usual.
-The kitchen and house itself (clutter and laundry baskets abound) seem very unorganizedish to me.....she has that big beautiful kitchen, why is everything all over the counters anyway?
-lots and lots of non-organic candy in containers on the toothbrush sink. Who knew that Kate was a fan of irony?
Now on their site TLC is showing a "premiere," which seems to be the whole Mexico trip and maybe something else (?), on one night only, the 22nd, for 3 hours (starting at 8 pm EST). What is up with this? Very strange to take what was billed for at least the past few weeks as two "specials" (both presumably the Mexico trip) and not only combine them into a single episode but also change the air date less than a week before. And it's not scheduled to rerun very much in the 3 or 4 days following. What's been put into K8's her original slot on Tuesday (the 23rd) at 8 p.m. is the Little Couple premiere. Wonder why all the juggling.
Well, I may be wrong. TLC's site is so confusing with respect to schedules. Maybe that's deliberate. Anyway, I just checked TV Guide, which has the 3-hr "premiere" on the 22nd listed as yet another "look back" show (for three friggin' hours?!), then they have a 1-hr Mexico b'day on at 10 p.m. on the 23rd. No additional b'day episode scheduled for the 30th, at least not according to TV Guide or TLC. Really sounds like she's being treated as filler, IMO.
Because Kate has left them home with nannies so often, I think it upsets some of them alot. They didn't want her going out for her birthday that other time. If I remember right one or maybe more was crying before she left with Jamie.
I don't put it past Kate to rant and rave at the kids and threaten to "leave and not come back" if they don't behave or do what she wants. Look how she was ready to give them to the Palins if they didn't want to leave with her. It is all about her her her. Too bad she couldn't make the kids feel special and say the Mexico trip was for their birthday. Not hers.
The Little Couple and one other show are the only ones ranking in the top 100 shows (by my memory of zap2it reports) since the Duggars were yanked. TLC has probably decided to make TLC (The Little Couple) the show that gets the sweet spots on the TLC (The Learning Channel) schedule. Bye bye Kate! You're taking up prime real estate!
It's a little skimpy on the protein. I believe the serving size for small shrimp is recommended to be about 9. Or a cup. But the potatoes and the fiber in the vegetables would fill most people up temporarily. I'd probably be hungry maybe a couple hours later. I'd double the shrimp so I wouldn't get hungry so soon. But it's more than an appetizer.
From Radar:
While Josh Duggar is hiding from the public following his outing as a child molester, his sister victims have bravely decided that they are venturing back into the public eye with their first appearance since the news broke.
Jill Duggar, Derick Dillard and baby Israel are flying out to Ohio for a Christian music festival along with pregnant Jessa Duggar and her husband Ben Seewald and RadarOnline.comhas all the details.
The 19 Kids and Counting stars have been in hiding since the bombshell news of their brother’s sordid past was revealed, and while he has quit his high-profile job and canceled his public appearances since the confession, his sisters are stepping out for the first time to attend a faith-based event.
The 28th Annual Alive Christian Music Festival in Mineral City, Ohio is hosting the Quiverfull families over the weekend where the married couples will be guest speakers. Tickets to the event are a whopping $140 for an all-access pass that allows guests to attend the concerts, speakers, seminars, swimming, primitive parking and camping. A pass for hot showers will set festival goers back $25 for four.
The Seewalds and Dillards are speaking on Saturday, June 20 at 3:15 pm on the Beach Stage.
While companies abandoned their reality show in droves after Josh’s scandal, with General Mills and Crayola being among the ones that said they would not advertise on the show, soft drink giant Pepsi is one of the sponsors of the festival.
Unfortunately, rather than acknowledging their culpability (and dishonesty) in the process, Jim Bob and Michelle are seeking to pin the blame on the woman who “outed” them.
Take this widely circulated excerpt from a socially conservative website, which makes note of the fact that Kathy O’Kelley, the police chief who released the records implicating Josh Duggar, is a lesbian …
If a crazed lesbian was looking for a conservative public figure to demonize, Jim Bob would be a good one. And what better way to hurt him than to permanently destroy the reputation of his oldest son and force his daughters to relive their abuse all over again in the public eye?
Share this report if you think it is deplorable that Springdale Police Chief Kathy O’Kelley likely went after the Duggars maliciously because they are a conservative Christian family.
And I've said it before, it also robs them of what has been proven by the experts to be the most rewarding part of a vacation--the ANTICIPATION of it.
She is creating an environment where the kids know that they cannot trust her and that she will play head games with them. She is sabotaging her future relationship with them. They may tolerate it now, with some grumbling, because they are still quite young and don't quite realize there is any other option but to live with either her or Jon. But someday at least some of these kids are going to decide for themselves their relationship is not healthy, and they'll remove themselves from that house, either limit their contact with her or cut it off all together.
Regarding Kate telling the kids she was going to Mexico without them, I don't see the humor in that. What's fun about getting the kids upset and then saying, just kidding? Being that she lacks the ability to empathize though, it makes sense in a way. I'm sure Milo will get a big kick out of it. She loves to tease and torment for grins and giggles.
They're not understanding how this went down. They're deliberately ignoring the facts. The police didn't go after anyone. The police were minding their own business, just trying to keep their community safe and risking their life to do so, when they were served by a legal document that required them to disclose certain documents.
The police then double and triple checked whether they should even comply with it, and multiple ATTORNEYS told them they had to or they could be in violation of the law themselves.
To try to spin that all around as the police on a mission to "get them" is outrageously insane. As far as we all know, the police went to multiple experts in a way that feels like they were hoping to get a different answer other than "disclose."
Those people should be ashamed of themselves for going after good people who have spent their careers keeping them safe. Screw them.
Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...
Oh and look at it this way. Did the Duggars apparently want the police to IGNORE their attorneys' advice to not release the documents, even though that advice included that the police could be in violation of the law and appropriately punished if they didn't?
In other words the Duggars wanted the police to risk their own careers, violate the law and more to protect that family. Is that very Christian to expect someone to break the law for YOU? What incredible selfishness and narcissism.
She did the writing herself. She doesn't tell the kids where they are going because she doesn't want them to tell the secret place they are going. We talked about this a couple weeks ago, about how her birthday plans were selfish.
I was criticizing her for not wanting to be with her kids and family on her birthday and going out clubbing instead and some drive by blasted me for it and said I should celebrate my birthday how I want to and let Kate celebrate hers how she wants to.
Now sure enough the kids THEMSELVES wanted family time. They didn't want her to go off. Just like they didn't last time.
If your kids are fine with it that's one thing but if your kids are making it clear to you they prefer you NOT leave them, grow up, be a mother, and stay with them or take them along. It's not like she HAD to leave them because her job drew her out of town or some other good reason. Good grief.
There's a good chance many people in that police office didn't even know who the Duggars were. I know it's hard for them to believe but most people don't pay them no nevermind.
I'm sure they may have briefly heard about a large family on TV but other than that? Many of them likely weren't even around when the investigation occurred and I doubt the police office talks about investigations from ten years ago all that often no more than an older coworker of mine would mention all the cases they had from ten years ago before my time. I wouldn't know them from Adam.
It's fascinating to me the way they want special treatment even if it means going against good morals and values to give it to them. When you flip the hypothetical around on them and ask, so should the police have broken the LAW to protect you, is that Christian to ask or even expect? It becomes a hypocritical situation. I thought it actually looked very good (for a Kate plate) and not at all sloppy. If the kids really don't eat a heavy dinner, there was enough on that plate for them. My kids love roasted asparagus and green beans and seafood, and would have been really happy with that meal.
Why would TLC have been there to grill that supper?
Here's the thing. Kate has, in the past, served up slop (think some of the things in her failed cookbook) that looked like canned cat food. However, even if a meal looks good and the portions seem about right (we don't know how much those kids eat at a sitting), she will always be criticized for not giving them enough, her choice of foods are bad, she uses the wrong size plates, and whatever. She will never be able to get it right so that she is not called out for something.
I think I just defended her. Gasp.
The way I understood it, the police weren't going after *anybody*.
It got started when InTouch contacted the lesbian couple who posted a picture of themselves kissing in front of the Duggar home. The couple lived in TX, but were in the area because their cousins live 3 doors down, or something.
Unfortunately for the Duggars, the couple had no problem sharing their views of the Duggar hypocrisy, among other things. The couple had enough fact based knowledge to set the ball rolling.
If the Duggars hadn't rolled themselves (and their kids) out as national icons of Christianity while all the time hiding a dark secret, this probably would not have happened. If they hadn't acted like they were only one step down from Jesus or maybe even one step above Jesus, and that it was up to them to tell others how to live their lives this wouldn't have happened.
They have no one to blame but themselves. Doesn't the bible preach humility? If they hadn't been so prideful in their Christian ways this would not have happened.
I thought the summer meal looked pretty good, too.I would have eaten that- not sure why two green 'veges' but okay... Also unlike Kate's usual prison tray fare.
Oh, my goodness.
Bobby and Jamie Deen have a new show called, Southern Fried Road Trip. They are supposedly filming in my area. This article said that FN is denying that they are going to have a show. This was 2 months ago.
Just saw the promo for it. FN must of learned from TLC how to play the deny game.
Hmm.. they did a road trip show several years ago. It was really good. Fun to watch.
I think they're both really good show hosts and shouldn't be sullied by their bawdy, crass mother ;-)
Yes, I thought so, too. Yet there are the non fans on Twitter who just have to bash her for serving too-small portions, not enough seafood, small plates, slop, and so forth. How do they know how much is enough for those children? Perhaps the kids don't eat much at dinner. The portions for a child looked just about right to me. Sometimes I think the non fans on Kate's timeline just love to bait the sheeple and will criticize Kate no matter what she does.
About Kate's summer grill plate -- I hope there's a hearty salad or two on the side that we're not seeing and maybe a big ole pot of homemade baked beans to dig into on the table. Some crusty buns would be nice. And does she, the author of a cookbook, not know that about 1/3 of that asparagus is stringy and inedible and should have been cut off and saved for the soup pot?
My guess, it's speculation based on when TLC filmed a family game night once before.
You cannot take what Kate says literally. It's not the truth that she planned a birthday getaway without the kids but felt guilty and decided to take them. She HAD to take them all along, per TLC. Believe me, there is no way she could get away with a freebie vacay without the kids and TLC filming.
There is also a part of the preview with Kate & Deanna all dolled-up to go out to dinner. It's at that dinner that Kate makes the 'best 5 years of my life' comment. To me, the comment seemed forced & scripted. Not at all the way one would say it to a close friend. Definitely something designed to keep a story-line going - you know, that Kate is single in case the viewers have forgotten.
Then there is a clip of the two of them checking out the men in the restaurant & Kate assuring Deanna that one of the guys is single based on how he is sitting. They act like two high school girls checking out the boys in the gym. So much stupidity saved on film for her children to see.
And she assures her viewers that 40 and single is soooo much worse than being in her 30's and single. Poor, poor Kate.
Probably not! By the time I get finished 'prepping' the asparagus there's nothing left but the tips, which is as it should be. More than half of the stalks go into the soup pot for stock.
Kids that age WANT and NEED to know what is going on in their lives. They should know ahead of time where they are going and when and where their mother is going. I don't mean errands like grocery shopping. But I do mean any committment they have to prepare for, even if it's attending a local concert in the park. I do mean any time their mother is going out on a date. I certainly mean any trip. The length of time they need to know varies by age and maturity level. But kids get very unsettled when everything appears to be in chaos. She could keep a family calendar that they could read. Jerking them around is plain cruel and confirms she has no parental love.
At this age, it would have been ok to break vacation news with a cake. That could have been fun. The whole I'm going you're not hah hah is ugly. Then I'm sure we get the whole thing about how packing is so hard, so awful, her life is terrible. The kids could make a pile of their packing and she could check it. Then it all goes in suitcases and DONE!
I did not watch the preview. I'm depressed enough already from my real life.
I don't feel sorry for Kate for being single. I think that's exactly how she wants it. She's got her whatever it is with Steve and she has the freedom of being single, too.
And so the publicity starts:
Mommy's big day! Kate Gosselin celebrated her 40th birthday back in March, but on Tuesday, June 23, fans will get to see the reality star's sunny Mexican getaway with her eight children.
The family stayed at the Karisma Hotels & Resorts Generations Riviera Maya where the mother of eight got to soak up some downtime while her kids stayed busy.
Gosselin's 14-year-old twins and 11-year-old sextuplets helped out in the Little Eko Chefs Kitchen, decorating gourmet birthday cakes for their mom.
The family then had a private birthday lunch at the Haab restaurant, but Gosselin also got some kid-free time with a close pal as they cruised into Playa Del Carmen in a stretch Navigator for a night out.
Not sure that's loved by 11 year olds.
FlimsyFlamsy said...
Jeanne (#181), I appreciated your thoughtful comment about the kids.
It's as if TFW still, STILL sees them only as a unit. But these are 8 different children, with 8 fully-formed souls and personalities.
The tups are 11 now. If any of you have 11-year-olds in your lives,
you know that they sure as heck don't see themselves as little kids.
Ask any 11-year-old, "Hey, what are you doing next week?" and
they'll probably mention some specific plans. But these kids'
plans mean nothing when Mom and TLC take over. She shows
her lack of respect for them as individuals again and again.
It depends on the child. I am a mom of boys, too, and those portions would have been just about right for my guys, who are about the same age as Kate's. My kids are not big eaters. I mean, they enjoy eating, just not a lot at one time. Her children might be the same way. For once, I think that the portions were just fine. If those kids have been raised eating green vegetables and like them, then they wouldn't have an issue eating asparagus. Not all kids are the same. Two of mine love salads; the other one won't touch lettuce of any kind. He says he's not a rabbit.
I do remember, though, that photo she gleefully tweeted of the breakfast. Was it Valentine's Day, with the tiny muffin and a tablespoon of eggs? That was ridiculous. My year-old (plus a few months) eats more than that for breakfast. At the time she tweeted that photo, I actually wondered if it was a joke.
@Mydmaxx uh, he likes to walk/hop on the carpeted floors (?!) now ...and bite... He’s in his #TerribleTwos I think lol!
So now the bird is biting? Birds don't just up and bite for no reason, and it's not the terrible twos. Just wait until she has him perched in her boobs, or on one of the kids' neck/shoulders and he decides to chomp down. Many times the bites from small birds like Conures can be more serious than those from larger parrots like Amazons and Macaws. Been there, done that, with birds who have been abused. Those bites can be deep. I have the scars to prove it.
There's a reason Zorro is biting, Kate. Don't just laugh about it or excuse it as a phase. It's not that. You've put that bird on your shoulder and on the kids' heads. He has assumed a dominate position and he knows it. I commented on this the first time she posted a photo of the bird on someone's head. This could be one reason why he's biting. Another reason could be a change in the environment. Something isn't right there. The bird obviously wants control of a situation. Oh, and birds have no business hopping around on carpets. What in the heck is wrong with her?
Kate's been told to get that bird off the shoulders and she didn't listen. Now she will have to teach him not to bite. Don't yell at him or get angry. He will enjoy the attention and just keep biting. She better do some research, figure out what's wrong and correct the situation because it's not going to take care of itself on its own.
