I hope everyone will indulge me in a brief hiatus from our usual posts to do one of my "recaps", this time about my own reality, my visit to the Australia Zoo last week. My reason for doing such a personal recap is because there is a pretty strong connection to our chatter on this blog and this zoo. Number one, Kate Plus 8 filmed some episodes of the show in Australia and had their own spin on what goes on at the zoo which may not have been entirely accurate. Secondly, Bindi Irwin is probably Australia's most exploited child, even attracting attention from legislatures there who are concerned about her welfare, and for that reason alone I think it's interesting to keep up with what that family is up to.
And I guess a third reason is I think you'll enjoy hearing about this as I enjoyed my day there.
I won't bore you with the long details about how I ended up in Australia. The short version is I was given a wonderful opportunity to work here for a couple weeks, an opportunity which also included some leisure time such as a visit to the Great Barrier Reef and a stay on a cattle station, and I couldn't pass that up. This was one of those right place and right time things that came my way and makes me feel very lucky and appreciative.
So last week I stepped on that 14 hour flight out of LAX bound for Sydney with several other colleagues. I'm not going to lie, that flight was brutal, but there were lots of new movies to watch and enough episodes of Veep to have me giggling a good two-thirds of the way across the Pacific. ("How much would I love to speak my mind on this campaign Can you imagine if I did that? 'Mississippi is chock full of assholes, I don't trust the Chinese, and I gotta tell you something. I'm not going to be able to pass a single piece of legislation that's really going to make any fuck of a difference in your life.' How's that for a campaign platform?") Going back, the flight was more than an hour shorter which was a difference you could feel. Every hour counts when it's that long I guess.

After a few days recovering from our jet lag in Sydney, where not me but some of us were unfortunately vomiting for a few days (airplane food, we decided) we headed up on a short flight to Brisbane, near where the Australia Zoo is located. We made our home base in the gorgeous seaside surfer town of Caloundra, which hosts an old ship wreck the S.S. Dicky that is probably the most beautiful thing you will ever see at sunrise. A few of us managed to get up to witness it two days in a row. This was the prettier of the two mornings though both were spectacular.
We planned almost an entire free day at the zoo and nearby koala hospital, and hit the ground as soon as it opened at 10 a.m. the day after we arrived in Caloundra.
My first impressions of the zoo was that it was extremely clean, very large, and quite classy. There was very little that was tacky about it as some attractions like this tend to be. It is of course heavy on Steve, with his photo plastered pretty much everywhere, but the heir apparent Bindi is everywhere too. Overlooking a croc infested creek there's Bindi's treehouse, which you can look at but not actually go up in, and coming later this year is something called Bindi's island. None of us bothered to figure out what that was about. A lot of people were commenting that Robert, her younger brother, is hardly anywhere. Neither is Terri for that matter. The marketing team knows what sells, and that's Steve and Bindi. Some remarked that they felt bad for Robert, who perhaps might feel like he plays second fiddle to his sister and dad. (I suppose it's also possible Robert doesn't want to be a part of this, though I doubt it.)
In the morning we wandered from exhibit to exhibit, just checking out whatever was nearby. We saw the crocs, several different birds, and snakes. They had camels you could ride and a sleepy tiger you could get your photo taken with, which I believe is the same one Kate got her photo taken with. It was kind of funny to see three zookeepers in there with the tiger, the people just sitting there on the ground hanging out like it was the most normal thing in the world. We speculated the tiger might be drugged, but I hope not. We saw koalas, one with a little baby riding on her mommy's back that was ridiculously adorable. Zookeepers were everywhere in the zoo, answering questions and often bringing the animals out of the enclosures for a closer look. We saw one worker actually walking a perfectly content wombat like you might a dog.
They were moving him for some reason. I asked if that's how they always move them and they said yes. Well, that seems more humane than sedating it and throwing it in a crate, as long as it's happy to walk with you.

I have to say I was impressed with the zookeepers. Most of them were very young, enthusiastic, and had the most nurturing touch with the animals. I watched one young woman remove a dozing koala from a tree with such a gentle hand, like a mother might wake up their sleeping toddler. There are also many areas of the zoo that are hands on and encourage you to touch and pet the animals, which Steve Irwin was so big on (and at times, criticized for) and there was always someone nearby to monitor everyone and make sure the animals were okay. I heard a few zookeepers speak up and ask people to step back when they felt the animal was getting too crowded, but I never saw the animals themselves act uncomfortable. The spirit of Steve and how he believed we should interact with wildlife, whether you agree, carries on.
Now to what I imagine the zoo would consider its highlights. They have a huge enclosed area with a bunch of little kangaroos ranging from about three to five feet tall. They just hop around of their own accord and are perfectly tame around people. We bought some feed and went in and hand fed them.
It was really fun and the roos had such personalities. I have a hysterical selfie with one where he looks like a silly kid photobombing me. Some of them had babies in their pouches and I saw them kicking in there like a human fetus kicks his mother. Someone else in my group saw one poke a little head out but sadly I missed that. I took a lot of photos in there and I didn't have to approach a roo, they would approach me and mug for my camera. I felt very much at ease in that exhibit.
There is another similar roo feeding area with a different breed of kangaroos. I think it was Red Kangaroos. They were just as outgoing, but because we stopped by that later they were pretty full and not interested in eating. After that our group all took a turn holding a koala.
It was like holding a sleepy toddler, they were adorable and clung to you instantly. It was very special. I said they looked like sleepy babies, others said they looked like sleepy drunks. Whichever you prefer!
At noon we gathered in the "Crocoseum" for the croc show.
I imagine the show we saw was similar to what was shown on Kate Plus 8. This part was probably the least enjoyable for me. There was a lot of teasing of the crocs with bait and even trainers to get them to come out of the water or do certain things. Shades of Sea World. I did enjoy the birds, who flew very close to our heads.
Australians in general I've found to be honest, inviting, and curious. They also love to tease and laugh and when I asked some zoo staff where the "restroom" was they burst into giggles and said, "Restroom! You don't rest in it!" They just call it "the toilet" there and thought the Americans and their Americanisms were good fun. Which reminds me, the Australians we were with remembered it was the Fourth of July, which none of us expected them to (after all, most of us don't have the first clue what their holidays are or when), and made us a beautiful flag cake. I think most of us cried when they brought that out, it was just so kind.
It was fairly crowded at the zoo the day we went, although to be fair it was the first day of winter break for Australian school children, so it's hard to judge what it would look like on a regular day. The winter weather was beautiful, in the high 60's, with just a light shower in the morning we barely noticed because we were so absorbed in hanging out with the roos.
Australians are also chatty and love to tell you what they think if you ask. They don't have some idea that they best not say what they think to strangers out of politeness, as some cultures do, including to some extent our own. They are my sort of people! I had chatted up several of them throughout the trip and found out some interesting dirt about Terri. I met someone who knew Steve and said he was just as he was on TV and that everyone loved him, but that most people were not too keen on Terri. He found her to be standoffish and was never able to form any kind of friendship with her as he did Steve. I found myself wondering exactly what Steve saw in Terri, since everyone describes him as so genuine, and she as, frankly, a hot mess. Australians are very aware of the criticism of the Irwins and it makes them uncomfortable. The zoo has been struggling even before Steve's death, and the turning point as one Australian thought, was when Steve held baby Robert near a croc. He said from that moment on they never recovered.
Terri is estranged from Steve's father and he has washed his hands of the zoo, however under Australian law he apparently still has access to and sees Bindi and Robert. The zoo staff is, according to those I talked to, quite concerned about Terri's handling of the zoo's finances. This I had heard in the press, too.
Many locals were also vocal that they didn't like the zoo either, in particular the way you are allowed to touch and hold some of the animals. They said if you encountered a kangaroo or koala in the wild (which I did, incidentally, at about 11 o'clock at night I ran into three roos bigger than me--although that's another story!) you should quietly walk way around it or they'll claw your eyes out. I quietly walked around the three I saw! Way around.

At the end of the day a zoo is a zoo and I don't find them particularly necessary, but if you must have a zoo, they did as good of a job as you can with it. I give them credit for getting rid of some of the most exploitive exhibits, like the elephants, even if it were more for financial reasons, and for taking care to hire a staff that treats these animals like their own children. I also know many people who had a stake in the zoo have lines they won't cross. For instance, Steve Irwin's father has been very vocal about his disgust with Sea World. I've been to Sea World San Diego as well and I never felt the level of comfort there that I did at the Australia Zoo. This zoo has its issues, but it was not Sea World.
After a nice lunch in a big food court near the Crocoseum we headed over to the Koala Hospital, which is just a short walk over on the other side of the parking lot.
Here is where my heart just swelled. This is a real living working hospital that takes in injured animals and restores them to health. Many are released back to the wild. If they cannot return safely to the wild they are absorbed into the zoo or go to other good homes. They have it all open for viewing with huge glass windows, and some of the vets were working right at that moment on a sea turtle. You can see in the photo a great example of the gentle, loving touch of the vets. One of the doctors was actually soothingly rubbing the turtle's back. I don't know if a sick turtle responds to a back rub, but it's worth a try.
The vets came over to the windows to talk to us and show us the turtle up close.
When we were there they were treating several animals including a koala who shattered his pelvis when he was hit by a car. He was doing well enough to rest in a little tree they had set up for him. You could see little shaved spots on his tiny back where they had been working on him. The turtle was suffering from excess air in its body and shell. Apparently a defense mechanism when turtles are injured is to retain excess air, however too much can kill them. There is treatment for it that can help it get better. They did not know how he was injured but guessed maybe a boat.
I'd love to see the zoo focus much more on this rehabilitation, but I suppose the other exhibits help fund this great work. We asked ahead of time if the hospital needed anything, and they said they could use office supplies like post its and pens, and that they could always use new or gently used towels. Well, my group delivered, and brought over from the U.S. with us the motherload pile of supplies you see here in front of one of the vets. I'm very proud of these Americans.
All in all it was a wonderful day, I learned so much, and we all felt so good about being able to help out the hospital with supplies.
Thank you everyone for your patience while I've been absent from the blog. I'm glad I'm able to share with you some of the cool things I did while you were stuck on the same post! Australia may be a progressive country but it could use some work when it comes to its wifi! It's nonexistent in many places and slow as all get out in most others. Incidentally, one of the few times we had really good wifi was at the zoo (thank you, Terri, for that), but of course when that happened we were too busy seeing the zoo to be online much. Thanks again all you blokes and g'day!

«Oldest ‹Older 401 – 600 of 1027 Newer› Newest»I realized the only way the family court can access the criminal courts is by holding you in contempt, which is rare. He must have found the kids in contempt for violating a court visitation order.
===============
Yes, that's what was reported. They were in contempt. However, it was through no fault of their own. If they are minors, and their mother forbid them to have lunch with their dad, that puts them in an unbelievably awkward and difficult position.
I remember in elementary we made ornaments out of a sawdust mixture which sort of molded like clay. Maybe it was a cheaper alternative to clay. I didn't much like the smell but I was proud of what I made, a Santa head I think. My parents dutifully hung them on the tree every Christmas. I remember a couple years later we noticed a little mold growing on them and my mom, with tears in her eyes, had to throw them out.
===========
Aw. When my mother died and I was going through her things, I found a box of ornaments. Every Christmas surprise I ever made was there, including some kind of block art with bells carved into it with a knife. I remember inking it and making cards. There was a reindeer head that was hardly recognizable and looked like road kill. I think there were some petrified marshmallow snowmen (hard to tell after being in an attic). She couldn't bear to throw them out, and neither could I so I still have them!
By the way, every time I smell sawdust it reminds me of the elementary school janitor who would come by and put the stuff down when someone threw up.
I shall return now to my studies. I again apologize to any who are offended by my using this platform to share my religious views.

Thanks, KyPastor. Beautifully and succinctly stated. I would think that there are many here who share these same religious views.
One small example, one time she joined a bridge club and when it came her turn to host the weekly game she charged the women a quarter for every cup of coffee they drank

Well, it was, after all, cheaper than Starbucks! ;-)
KyPastor, I always enjoy your insightful posts.
Welcome lurksalot.
Gee, there are so many of us, we should develop a secret handshake or get a tattoo or something.
The children who were sent to juvie got mouthy with the judge and refused to obey the court order that they have lunch in the court cafeteria with their father. This mess has been going on since 2009. The Daily Mail has better details of this case. The mother is pure evil. The kids are boys age 14 and 10 and a 9 year old girl. Each child has an attorney.
Lurksalot (#195), thanks for sharing your personal story.
Hope you'll comment more often, and then you can change
your name to "Postsalot!"
I'm going to come down on the side of the family court judge. In the article, it states the father had to go to Israel for 2 weeks due to his job after the court hearing, so placing them with the father was not an option. As entrenched as the children are in their beliefs about their father, I don't think foster care would have been a good fit as I can guarantee you they would have manipulated the foster parents/snuck around in order to have contact with their mother and vice versa.
The judge didn't appear to take any pleasure in what she had to do and based on the transcript, it will probably do those little ****s good to be away from their mother, cell phones, computers, etc. so they can take time to think about their actions and learn that defiance isn't always the best decision. I sat in on court hearings in juvenile court (foster care) for 4+ years and I think more judges should take a harder stance with some of this type of behavior--from the children and parents alike.
The only down side I can see is if one of the children gets hurt or makes accusations of abuse while in juvie.
A gift from a child is the most precious gift anyone can receive. I don't care if it is store bought or hand made. My grandchildren very rarely give me store-bought gifts. If they do, it's from a store that caters to children, and the items usually cost $5 or less. I've gotten different types of tea, a coffee mug, and various other items. The gifts they gave me show the thought that went into either purchasing or making the gift. And it is the thought that counts.
I previously told the story of my granddaughter making a sewing project where she sewed buttons on felt and also sewed other scraps onto it, to show her appreciation for my showing her how to sew by hand. It was her way of thanking me for teaching her. She even made it more special by arranging a scavenger hunt throughout her house for me to find her last gift.
Some of my most precious gifts are also rocks or shells that my grandchildren hand-painted for me. When I look at them, they touch my heart because they took the time and effort to make a unique gift for me. How could I not appreciate that?
I cherish everything they have given me over the years and have saved ever little item.
Because of that, I still can't wrap my head around Kate saying what she did about Collin's gift.
Jill and Derick' s purpose for their mission trip reminds me of a line from the movie "Mr. Mom":
"YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG!"
How long before the Dillard's get disinvited by the El Salvadorans?
Quite frankly little shits came to my mind too. If the judge had to do that chances are the kids are nightmares. Better they learn now to have some respect for the court of law than be sent to prison at 22. She may have just done those children one gigantic favor.
I don't understand why some of the non-fans on twitter told Milo that she was dissing Jon's appearance at a charity event(Laney's 5K) when she tweeted her sarcastic remarks about Jon's appearance at Bldg 24. Those are 2 separate events.
But Milo apparently needed to address the "haters". Why even bother unless she was afraid that Kate might not know the whole story and would think less of her.

I find it funny that Milo interacts with the "haters" to set the record straight. She must be so fearful that Kate will actually believe what they said.
'm going to come down on the side of the family court judge. In the article, it states the father had to go to Israel for 2 weeks due to his job after the court hearing, so placing them with the father was not an option.

There are quite a few things that aren't known about this specific case. How often does he go to Israel on business for two weeks? Once a year, once a month? Is he away from home more than he is at home?
There must be a reason why custody wasn't given to the father, even though the judge stated that he's a good man. We simply don't know the extenuating circumstances and to what extent their mother poisoned their minds against their father. Brainwashing can be a powerful thing.
The kids are separated in Juvie and will rarely see each other. Evidently this is so they can receive therapy and counseling and not be able to conspire with each other. Amazing the hate one parent can teach these kids.
How can one call a little nine-year-old girl a shit, when who knows how much influence her mother had over this, was probably scared of not obeying her, knowing that she had to live in that home under the control of her evil mother?
Just because a child is a victim of parental alienation doesn't mean they can't be an organically nasty kid too. It's for their own good it sounds like, and it doesn't sound like it was done in haste.

Administrator! Your language, LOL. I meant little brats.
One question I do have is how did a transcript of a family court hearing get released and find it's way into the hands of the media?
Of course he is so scruffy that you can barely see his face.

We have a word in PA Dutch that describes him perfectly. Greisslich.
For the record, I did not call the kids little shits. I should have put the b for brats at the beginning of the word.
Although what their mother as well as themselves have done to the father is shitty. My feeling is that both the mother and kids were taken by surprise with the judge's order--they were probably counting on no action being taken due to the father having to go out of the country for work.
Being raised in the Catholic Church and Catholic school system in the late 50’s was an exercise in fear, at least where I lived in Ontario, Canada.
My father and mother had a "mixed marriage" and had to be married in the Catholic church basement. My father had to agree to raise any children as Catholic, and he was forever know as a "Non-Catholic". When he died suddenly at age 43, my mother had to ask permission for us to attend his funeral at his Protestant Church, (which was denied to us as we were minor children). My older brother was given permission to attend along with my mother.
When I started high-school, soon after my father's passing, I had to fill out a form the first day of school. I still remember shaking with emotion, looking at "Father's Name". I said to the nun, "I don't know how to spell deceased", her response was, ”well, you shouldn't be in grade 9 then!"
In religion classes that year I asked if my "non-Catholic” father was in heaven and was told that ALL non-Catholics go to Purgatory,
but could be "prayed-out" in time and could go in heaven one day IF
there were enough Catholics praying down here on earth. The thought of my father being denied access to heaven for being a Protestant seemed completely unfair to me.
I am very spiritual, but I know the Catholic teachings in my day elevated us above all others. Because my father was demeaned to second-class status, I left the school and the church after my first year of high school. I know the church has changed, but for me at least, I just try to live the best life I can, and never judge others for their beliefs.

No, Milo. Kate is not coming to the tournament. She and the kids have no interest in golf. It was 93 degrees here this afternoon, with the humidity just as high. In fact, my dog didn't even want to go outside, and after working in the mulch beds for just a half hour, I had to come inside. People were dropping like flies on the greens. Getting into this mess of traffic, and then walking around in hooker heels while herding around eight kids who would rather be swimming would not be my idea of summer fun. It's probably the very last thing that Kate wants to do. Sorry, Milo, so just stop yapping about it..

Ha ha--this made me laugh, because Milo, at times, reminds me of a dog yapping and trying to do anything to get his master to throw him a bone.

Ah, so you didn't speak negatively about other "Christians," just about those who dare not believe in Jesus. Got it.
$$$
That is completely uncalled for. Nowhere in my post did I say or even imply such a thing. The conversation was about how our religion addressed other denominations. Not how they addressed non-Christians. Who for the record I was always taught to respect as any other Christian. And for your information I identify much more as agnostic these days so your rude slam is pretty outrageous toward someone like me.
Speaking of golf, as was mentioned before, yes, Jon did take
his sons to play. That's when we found out the boys were

KyPastor, it's always good to read your comments. Thank you.
I'm a Catholic now but I was raised in a conservative (although not evangelical) Protestant church. I quit going when I was in High School when the "minister" decided to inflict a 6 week Sunday School class on the teens to educate us about how evil Catholics were. I sat through one class and thought it was a bunch of bull. Two of the best people I knew were our neighbors, who were Polish Catholic immigrants. They'd been liberated from Dachau where they were imprisoned for hiding Jews during WWII. I agree with KyPastor. Jesus must weep at some of the things that are said and done in His name.
I have to disagree with many of you on the court case with the kids in juvie. These are children that have not committed a crime. Yes, I know that there is contempt but these are children. Did you have control over where you went and who you saw at the age of 9? Or even 14? I certainly didn't. I was only in those activities my parents allowed. I only saw those my friends when and where my parents allowed. I had no independent transportation. I had only a small allowance. My parents were decent parents but they were in charge. Juvie hall is for criminals. The children now live with criminals, go to school with criminals, have only criminals as friends. This is ok because they're brats? No. No. Would you be ok with Mady Gosselin going to juvie? Her mother is a parental alienator and she acts like a brat and doesn't always go for visitation. What's the difference?
I don't care how mad the judge was. It's up to him/her to think up a better solution. Then the article I read says the father has the power to get them out but he left the country. That's not a good father either. I didn't read what you all did. I read that the oldest kid is claiming the dad hit the mom. I don't think we know the truth. But putting them in a place where they will come out at age 18 labeled as criminals can't be in their best interest. Have a little compassion.
There was a tornado in Hamburg, PA today during the storm. It hit a building at Blue Mountain Academy, a private school. Has Milo learned about this yet and freaked out? Hamburg is in the northern part of Berks County. I don't know the miles but it would take Kate about 40 min to drive there, maybe a little longer with traffic. We all had tornado watches in southeastern PA. There was some really loud thunder but the rain was heavy in places, spotty in others. Shall we look for the tweet that all of Kate's trees fell down?
Jon's former buddy Christian Audigier passed away age 57 from cancer. Condolences to his friends and family.
By the way, every time I smell sawdust it reminds me of the elementary school janitor who would come by and put the stuff down when someone threw up.

Sleepless in Seattle (26),
Milo is definitely a Chinese Crested. Those things just look annoying. This golf tournament is the latest in a series of obsessions she just cannot let go. Remember grow-a-boyfriend? It seemed like that would never end! The golf thing makes no sense at all, because neither Kate nor the kids has ever expressed any interest in golf. Milo apparently walked a course 20+ years ago, which does not exactly make her a fan. It's hot, humid, crowded, parking is a mess..you'd have to be a fan to bother going to one of those. Our club has hosted many golf tournaments over the years, including the US Open, and none of us has ever had any interest in going. Nobody ever nagged at us to go, either, especially some yappy little stranger who has no idea what my family enjoys.

I'm with you.
Forgiveness to me is to not engage. Let them think they've won. Do the opposite of what my mother did. Live life and LOVE life!!! Best revenge really, don't you think?
====
To clarify, It's not that I'm totally against forgiving or being forgiven, I just think some things can't be dismissed from your memory. Sure, it's possible to forgive if the offender regrets their actions but when it comes to someone like an abusive narcissist, rarely do they feel any remorse.
It's their responsibility to realize the pain they've caused and to make every effort to repair the damage and if they don't, forgiving them just lets them off the hook while the victim is still left hanging there with all the scars.

Jumping In - similar situation with my parents. My dad was raised Catholic and my mom was Presbyterian, but it was okay with her for the children to be raised Catholic. They were married in the early 1950's. My dad took all us kids to church every Sunday, and my mom stayed home and when we returned, we'd help her finish up with a big breakfast meal for all of us. I think that was her weekly quiet time. I'm sorry that the Catholic church were jerks to your family. We were never heavily involved with the church beyond Sunday mass, and the occasional spaghetti feed, and my dad thought the local public school system was plenty good enough. I've heard enough stories about mean nuns though!
It was quite a big deal back then to marry someone who was not of your same faith. My dad's parents were at first unsure but when they met my mom, they thought she was wonderful and of course, when my dad made his mind up about something, that was that. So they were gracious and welcoming. In contrast, my grandmother's sister had married a very staunch Catholic businessman and they had 4 children. All of them were made to understand that if they chose to marry a non-Catholic, they would be dis-inherited. So 3 of them married Catholics and the 4th never married. Of the three that got married, two ended up divorced and the third ended up a rather bitter woman in an unhappy marriage. Meanwhile, my parents have been married 59 years. Sadly, my father is on hospice care and they will not make it to their 60th wedding anniversary, but their love is deep and true to this day.

Jeanne: I definitely understand where you are coming from, and I too am uncomfortable with the idea of children being placed in juvie until they are 18. Juvenile hall is not a good place for anyone. However, I also know that all we are hearing is just part of the story. I am hoping that the judge is doing this to make a very strong point, and perhaps to get the mother to do something (I don't know what, perhaps get counseling, perhaps agree to follow the court orders, etc.). I don't know why the father left the country - maybe it's because his job requires him to do so; or that he lives in another country and can't stay indefinitely in the U.S., or he had a trip already planned before this order came down.
What should have happened already is those minor children should have a guardian ad litem appointed for each one, to be their advocate in these court proceedings, to check on them while in juvenile detention, to coordinate counseling/therapy for them, and help facilitate some sort of relationship with their father. It sounds like a sad and messed up situation all around, and it really makes me realize that my ex is a pretty good guy. He sure made me angry a lot in years gone by, but I never spoke negatively about him to my son and I'm pretty sure he did not speak negatively of me. When I hear stories like this, it really makes me thankful for my own boring, mediocre life :)

They are absolutely victims and so many adults have failed them.
I'm gobsmacked that they are in juvie. Sickened, too.
Maybe they are brats, but they've obviously been poisoned and don't have the capacity to see what's really going on.
They are children for chrissakes! Children. Is this how we treat children?
Frankly, I blame the dad, too. He pushed it to this point instead of backing the f*ck off and waiting it out. Chances are, 1 or more of the kids will see what a sick woman their mother is, and they'll reach out to their dad then.
I truly think that's what Jon's doing. I don't think Jon wants to force any kids to see him.
I remember Jon saying he chose to live with his dad as a teen, but his relationship with his mom is good now, and sometimes, that's just how it goes.
I pray they get these kids the hell out of juvie and do something productive, or just let them be.

Gorcya needs to be removed from family court immediately.
I am sickened by the part where she bullies and threatens them, asking a little girl if she likes going to the bathroom in public, and comparing the kids to Manson's cult member, who violently killed men, women and an unborn baby.
There's no excuse for how this got so out of hand.
The more I think about it, the more I blame the dad. I would BEG the judge not to throw my kids in juvie, and just tell my kids that I loved them and will wait as long as it takes to rekindle a relationship.
Those kids truly believe their dad was violent to their mom. True or night, that's what they all believe. You can't order a kids to have a good relationship with a parent if they don't want to.
You can't order feelings and emotions.
You can't "happy" them up by beating them or incarcerating them.
BTW, if that's Steve's hand in the pool photo, then I feel sorry for Gina (and Kate) ;-)
I envision Milo as a Shar Pei. She/he is such an odd person. When you stand out on Twitter as strange, that's really saying something.
wxyz.com for the hearing. One of the attorneys suggested summer camp and others (maybe GAL?) had alternatives suggested. They broke around 2:45 EDT for the judge to consider. She started off blaming the media and back-pedaling bigtime. Claimed this wasn't "lockup," but a safe environment for the kids to get away from mother and get counseling, etc. May all be true but if you read the transcript from the last hearing she made clear she was punishing them for contempt. "how do you think you'll like going to the bathroom in front of 20 strangers," etc She knows she f'd up and is trying to salvage this mess..

Thanks for the update. Gorcya's bullying of children is sickening. She took their defiance as a personal affront, and abused her power to inflict cruel punishment.
A couple of first-hand accounts of the children are glowing:
http://observer.com/2015/07/lawyer-for-tsimhonis-children-speaks-out-against-ludicrous-jailing-of-kids/
Reading more about the dad, and why the mom packed up her kids and moved away from a war zone in Israel to bring them back to safety in the USA, I think he's a bully, too.
The Tsimhoni kids are ordered released and sent to a camp.
Why the hell did it take national outrage to help them?
I hope the kids can be kept in their own schools and go back to their family and friends.
Oh, what I would have given if this would of been TFW in the audience!

You can't raise a narcissist. I wish people would stop trivializing the word by labelling every spoiled brat a narcissist. NPD is a psychiatric disorder that has been studied extensively, with no known therapy or cure. The thinking is that a trauma in early childhood causes the disorder to become imbedded. A kid throwing a hissy fit for not getting their own way does not have NPD. The disorder causes serious issues for the survivors of narcissistic abuse.

I'm sorry, but you don't place children in juvenile hall to make a point to their parents. THAT is child abuse and this judge should be removed from the bench. There is no "full story" that could ever justify this.
Administrator: Being "mouthy and unreasonable" is not grounds for placing a child in juvenile. For you to rationalize this action, and for you to call these children "little shits" and surmise that they are "organically nasty" is unconscionable. Whatever actually went down here, these children are VICTIMS of a nasty war between their parents.

This Simple Birthday Invitation Will Bring You To Tears -- INSPIRING!
My daughter recently turned 4, and we threw our first party for her and her friends. Previously, we had just limited the guests to family members. Naturally we were careful to invite the entire class, so that no one would feel left out. Of the 12 kids who were invited, only 3 classmates attended the party, and I just chalked it up to the usual reasons. I figured the kids that didn’t come were already busy that day. Don’t worry - there was plenty of family in attendance, so the party was a hit. But when I read this mom’s letter on The Mighty, it made me wonder if there could possibly be other reasons for some of the absences. Birthday parties have always been a fond memory from my own childhood. So It was both heartbreaking to learn that they are a sense of angst for some moms. But it also gave an eye opening perspective that I thought I’d share with you.
“Dear (Super Cool) Mom,
You don’t know me and I don’t know you, but my son, Timothy, sometimes sits beside your son at school. Timothy has severe autism spectrum disorder. He is also a 7-year-old little boy who loves and plays with all of his heart. He needs a lot of extra help at school and sometimes seems just plain oblivious to what’s happening right underneath his nose. He wants friends but sometimes doesn’t know how to make them. He wants to play but sometimes doesn’t know how to ask. He wants to be included but sometimes doesn’t know how. We parents of children with special needs know only too well the hurt our kids feel when they are left out of the social gatherings.
Organized sports, play dates, sleepovers and yes, the dreaded birthday parties. I can say wholeheartedly that my son has not attended a single one. We have received countless invitations in the past few years, but mostly by kids who mercilessly invite the entire class. Don’t get me wrong, I am grateful. But I wonder if the parents know what would happen if I brought Timothy? The interruptions, the meltdowns. How I would hate to take the spotlight from the birthday child. So we politely decline. Every single one. Until your invitation arrived in the mail with a special note. It read:
‘Carter sat beside Timothy at school and he always talks about him. I really hope he can come. We are renting a bounce castle that we can attach a small bounce slide at the bottom. We will also have water balloon’s and water guns. Maybe Timothy can come earlier in the day if it would be too much with the whole class. Let me know how we can make it work.’
You wrote exactly what I needed to see that day and didn’t even know it. Because of your son he is included. Because of your son he feels wanted. Because of your son he has a voice. And I want you to know that because of you I can get through another day. Because of you I can get through another appointment. Because of you I can take more stares and more questions. Because of you I have hope for Timothy’s future. I just wanted to tell you what a fantastic job you are doing with your son. This mom will be RSVPing a hell yes for the first time ever. And I can’t wait. Sincerely, Timothy’s very grateful Mom
Part 2
I found this letter utterly inspiring. First of all, it was amazing to see what a huge impact one small act of kindness could have. But it also reminded me that we never know what others might be going through at any given time. But God is always ready to use us. He regularly gives us opportunities -- both big and small -- to impact the lives of others. This letter encouraged me to try to reach out to those around me. To try to think about what I can do to help make someone else’s day just a little bit lighter. Because for all you know, that small act you do for your neighbor may be just what they need in that moment!

I keep reading here people angered and sickend by this judge putting children in juvie, but can't help but wonder exactly who do they think populates juvenile detention? Children do. And a large portion of these children don't belong there but because they are poor, have abusive and/or neglectful parents or psychiatric problems they are labeled criminals and imprisoned. Scared straight doesn't work. Juvie needs a huge overhaul. For all children.
Redbird (#69), that Timothy letter was a tearjerker. Yes, the
smallest of gestures can mean the world to someone.
I'm afraid that there's a whole generation of people being

pay less and less attention to the flesh-and-blood people
around them. And that letter was an excellent reminder
that a little kindness can go such a long way.

It is true under the law a kid doesn't have the right to estrange a parent generally without court permission, and most courts won't give it absent severe abuse. There are cases in CA, Hunter S. and others, that basically says you need to drag a kid kicking and screaming to visits, we really don't care how much they think they hate their parent. But it seems like in a case where a kid is being this adamant and I suppose refusing to listen to reason, ordering conjoint therapy between the children and father to repair the relationship and address the alienation.
He does need to participate though, and the judge does sound like she's very frustrated with this young man for refusing to do what she orders. Kids need to follow court orders too.
Very few parts of Israel are "war torn." Very few. Was he really in truly a dangerous area or was he just up in Tel Aviv or Jerusalem somewhere completely out of harm's way and mom exaggerated?
Jeanne: I definitely understand where you are coming from, and I too am uncomfortable with the idea of children being placed in juvie until they are 18. Juvenile hall is not a good place for anyone. However, I also know that all we are hearing is just part of the story. I am hoping that the judge is doing this to make a very strong point
&&&&
That's what I'm thinking. Yes she was hard on the kid, but it's also clear from the kid's statements he doesn't give a flying fig what she thinks about how this case should go.
That's not how family law court works. The judge is the boss, and if even one person is refusing to follow the judge, even a child, the case can be blown to bits.
I wonder if she was bluffing. Really trying to show these kids that I am the one making the orders here, you MUST follow them or I will take serious action. And we cannot discount the 5 years the kids have been in front of her and all the other times they may have defied her. I seriously doubt she intended to make those children sit in jail until 18.
I agree that those particular kids may not belong in juvenile corrections but you're making juvie sound like OZ or something out of a Dead End Kids movie. My son is a counselor in juvenile corrections and they've got a lot of good programs for the kids and (humble brag) some really good counsellors to help them. my son told me to stop watching the reality shows about juvenile lock up because most of them aren't like that and he's been to many different facilities to train different personnel.
&&&&
I visited the juvie hall in Oxnard, CA and it was very nice. Welcoming, safe, low key. Juvie is definitely about reform, not incarceration.
I tend to think intensive therapy should be tried first in such cases but what if the kid refuses to go to therapy. No one has seen every word and document on this case but I have to wonder what the judge has been through trying to help this family before finally taking serious measures. Bottom line is children don't get to call the shots in these situations, even children who are the victims of parental alienation.
Occasionally really nasty kids come through the court system. It's just a reality. Not all children are wonderful and lovely and innocent. Some of them can be very sharp and manipulative and knowingly and intelligently defiant. To read about a real POS kid, you can check out Precious D. another CA case. I don't know if these kids were like that but who knows.

I agree. It's seems that the more technological means we have of communicating, the less we do. I feel like it's becoming a very one-dimensional world. Everyone walks down the street focused on their phones, not the people around them. They're completely oblivious to their surroundings, to the point of walking right into people and traffic. It's really sad.
Just read that polls indicate Trump is the frontrunner in the Republican nomination race having won over Tea Party supporters.

I called this one wrong, he's soaring. I have to say I kind of like how he just tells it like it is and calls people out. At least I know what he's really thinking, and I can decide for myself when the time comes whether my vote should go to him. He's going to be an absolute blowhard at the debates, and it might be rather nice actually.
In a strange way it's refreshing, since so many politicians seem so fake, like they're just saying what they think you want to hear. I'd rather you say what you really think and I don't agree with it, than you say something I agree with but that you're not really sincere about. I kind of wonder if a good many voters are responding way more to the kind of politicians he is more than his actually stance on the issues. Maybe people are ready for some real honesty for a change. Kind of like Selena Meyers said can you imagine if I were honest? I'm not going to pass any legislation that's going to make a difference in your life! How's that for a campaign platform? Lol.

Just a reminder for "Mockingbird" fans -- Harper Lee's "Go Set A Watchman" comes out on Tuesday.

http://www.theguardian.com/books/ng-interactive/2015/jul/10/go-set-a-watchman-read-the-first-chapter
I think the public needs to be made aware of who, exactly, is working in 'the system' and how they REALLY feel about the children they're paid to protect. It's disgusting.
&&&&
The appellate court has been very clear that some children really are a problem. I believe they called Precious, who was not precious at all, INCORRIGIBLE. That's just a nice way to say something else.
FYI if you're referring to me, I'm not paid to protect children. I'm an advocate for whatever my client wants, whether that's child protection or often not. An attorney is not a social worker and to suggest as such or threaten to "out" someone over it misunderstands an attorney's role. It does an incorrigible child no favors to coddle and encourage such behavior and not make them to follow court orders like everyone else. Let them play by a different set of rules and you have children who become adults who go to prison. Children are not idiots and at a certain age they know exactly what they are doing. Thankfully, most children are good kids. Thankfully, most kids acting out respond well when a judge is firm with them.
I'm sorry, but you don't place children in juvenile hall to make a point to their parents. THAT is child abuse and this judge should be removed from the bench. There is no "full story" that could ever justify this.
&&&
Not saying I agree, and I DON'T think we have the full story, but if a child is in contempt what do you do? What if you've tried absolutely everything? Do you just look the other way and say okay Johnny you get your way, you get to estrange your father. Your mother wins and my court orders mean nothing because you spit on them and I can't do anything about it. At one point is it okay for a child to not follow court orders? You could say you could order therapy which is what I did suggest, but what if they refuse to go? (seen that.)
I think we need to keep in mind that this judge was dealing with a very complicated case, some very defiant children, possible extreme parental alienation, and there are never very many good solutions when a family comes to them this damaged.
I think we also need to keep in mind that over and over case law has backed up judges on being VERY firm with children that they MUST see their parents (absent "detriment" in CA, similar in other states). Parental rights is a very huge right. She may have felt, in reading the case law, if she didn't force them, she could get reversed for not being tough enough (that's happened.)
Really? Precious was RAPED by her parents. BOTH OF THEM. Unbelievably sad that you would call a RAPE VICTIM names.
&&&
You're reading too quickly. No, no, no! Not that Precious! More than one kid has been named Precious.
Precious D., a California child. Her parents did NOTHING to her, and she was an absolute spoiled brat back. The appellate court was fed up with her total disregard for the court of law. It's a very famous case here because it puts the blame on the child, not the parents--has nothing to do with the other Precious, a true abused child and victim.
WHY are you blaming a MINOR VICTIM?? It's disgusting and for you to defend it, well, that's is AWFUL behaviour. Immoral, too.
&&&
The Court of Appeal disagrees with you. In fact, they have been very clear a child at some point is accountable for their actions. The age varies among states. In fact, not all children's behavior is excused away by the Court of Law as victim behavior. Otherwise we wouldn't have juvie in the first place. At what point is a child accountable for anything in your book? Never? By that logic, a victimized child is allowed to go out and commit murder because he was a victim. Doesn't work that way. You can be both a victim and held accountable in part or in full depending on the facts for what you do and say to a judge or to others. They are not mutually exclusive.
You should be ashamed of yourself. "I'm an advocate for whatever my client wants, whether that's child protection " So screw the child, you do whatever your client wants??
&&&&
Yep. Do you understand what an attorney does when they take on a client? That's the code of ethics I follow and the oath I took when I was sworn in. If I did NOT do so, I would be in violation of the oath I took. Yep, EVEN if it involves a child.
It is NOT my job to defend a child's rights if I am not representing that child. They have a judge, their own attorney, and social workers to do that. They are well covered. You don't understand an attorney's duty to their client in the court system, and that's a shame since you might need one some day.
I don't think Trump will be in the race for President much longer. I don't believe he is willing to release all the required financial records. He'll revel in the attention and back out just before the financial deadline.
I don't give a shit what the judge has "been through." There is absolutely no excuse for her actions or her words. The way that she spoke to those children was despicable. Sending them to juvie was despicable. I know for sure that there was at least one POS in that courtroom, and she was wearing a robe and sitting on the bench.
&&&&
I didn't like her comment about the child's intellect in particular, but I still would want to see the entire five year's of the case to really say exactly what she has done or not done to help this family. That's only fair to everyone. She sounded beyond frustrated, so my natural curiosity makes me wonder how she got to that point. I find it hard to believe that she just one day walked in and decided to be a real a-hole to a nice family. Maybe so, but I can't say without seeing the entire case, which I doubt anyone will be able to anyway so it's a moot point.
'Juvie' is for children who are parentless; either physically gone or emotionally unavailable. They put children in these places mostly because their PARENTS failed them. It's NOT the child's fault.
&&&&
That's patently untrue. Perfectly decent parents have children who end up in juvie. There are bad kids out there just like they are bad adults.

I don't think Trump will be in the race for President much longer. I don't believe he is willing to release all the required financial records. He'll revel in the attention and back out just before the financial deadline.

Yeah good point. I think he's so entertaining though when he talks finances because he always throws out some incredible net worth figure that couldn't possibly be true, without a care in the world he can't back it up. It's almost like if he believes in the number enough he thinks that will make it true. He's something else.
Oh, jolie, thank you and to everyone about the Timothy letter.
Believe me, I would like to put her first name here, but due to drive-bys, I can't.
I'm still not understanding the Tsimhoni case. In context of the Gosselin children, we have discussed before when they are old enough to go to the judge and say that, regardless of custody order, they want to live with Jon not Kate. Most states don't have an exact age for this but I thought we discussed that usually by the beginning of the teen years they can ask the judge for a change. The oldest boy in the Tsimhoni case is 14 years old. Why is that not old enough to say to the judge that he believes he knows his own mind and wishes to not visit his father? You cannot order teenagers to love or like their parents. The mother cannot drag him kicking and screaming. When is he old enough to know his own mind? Yes, I know the judge ordered him but he refused. It sounds like the kids have two lousy parents. One is an alienator. The other expects the kids to love him because he tells them to. The children are punished for their parents' misdeeds.
The articles are saying the parents fighting in court has been going on for years. Divorces don't happen overnight so the parents were probably fighting at home a year or two before even filing for separation. The youngest children most likely can't remember a time when their parents treated each other decently.
We are missing too much of the story. I just cannot support incarceration of children as a solution to any custody problem. Did these children even understand what contempt is, what the consequences could be? Or did they think that the judge would truly listen to them and support them?
Yeah good point. I think he's so entertaining though when he talks finances because he always throws out some incredible net worth figure that couldn't possibly be true, without a care in the world he can't back it up. It's almost like if he believes in the number enough he thinks that will make it true. He's something else.

Is Trump a narcissist? Or just an asshat cockroach who through inherited money, luck, shady dealings and hutzpah has been a 'success'?
The oldest boy in the Tsimhoni case is 14 years old. Why is that not old enough to say to the judge that he believes he knows his own mind and wishes to not visit his father?
&&&&
It's not a veto vote when you're a child. The judge considered his wishes and overruled them, apparently believing his desire to not see his father was not justified. I suspect she believed he has been alienated and therefore his desires were unduly influenced by his mom.
then the only logical conclusion to draw is that you think there children of certain ethnicities are "worse" than others. I really don't think that's why you mean, is it?
&&&&
I'm not going to chase you down your rabbit hole. Have fun down there.
Regardless whether a certain race is overrepresented in the criminal justice system, I simply do not believe that every child sitting in juvie is not personally accountable for their actions.
To tell a child who did something very bad, like murder, robbery, assault, or rape, that they were just targeted because of their race, does that child no favors. Talk about teaching a child not to take personal responsibility for terrible behavior and to just blame society and racism. Sorry, not going there. An upper middle class child may be able to avoid juvie because their parents have the resources to intervene and send them to boot camp, intensive therapy, or another alternative. It does not make HIS actions not bad just because someone else who did the same had no choice but to go to juvie. I don't believe his parents should feel guilty or racist just because they are able to offer a different alternative to an equally bad child. It's the lack of personal responsibility we are teaching our children that could destroy this generation, but by all means, continue to tell children nothing is their fault.
I didn't like her comment about the child's intellect in particular, but I still would want to see the entire five year's of the case to really say exactly what she has done or not done to help this family. That's only fair to everyone. She sounded beyond frustrated, so my natural curiosity makes me wonder how she got to that point. I truly think the judge has tried and tried with this family, but she should have been the cooler head to prevail.
Basically, she said spend time with your father, or you're going to a home until you age out.
Ordering them separated was particularly cruel, as was telling a 9-year old girl that she'll never pee in private until she's 18, which would be half of her life at that point.
If i were a 9-year old, I'd pee right then and there out of sheer terror.
The judge should never have even considered "breaking" them, because she has the power to do so.
It was wrong, and she let her emotions get out of control.
It would have been better to stop forcing the issue. Unless the dad knows he's ill and only has a short time to live, just let the kids be and hope they realize what an alienator their mom is.
Most do eventually.
Now, the mother's lost custody and this kids are wards of the state, I believe. What's next?
Dad gets them and they're off to Israel again.
Well played.

Yes. She is human and humans make mistakes. Fortunately when a judge takes a wrong turn, you can go to their "boss" the appellate court to complain, and usually they sort it out in a fair manner. A writ was filed on this case, and the judge has already changed her previous orders. Family court is no easy assignment but most of the time the judges get it right.
I think we need to keep in mind that this judge was dealing with a very complicated case, some very defiant children, possible extreme parental alienation, and there are never very many good solutions when a family comes to them this damaged.

To me, it's clear that the kids think their father is abusive. The one boy clearly believes, and states he witnessed, his father hit his mother.
This is his truth and a judge ordering him to see the man who hurt his mother is incomprehensible to him.
I wonder if he's staying strong to protect his brother and little sister, too.
It is what it is, right now.
Why MUST change happen NOW, simply because adults are saying so? Why not put a pin in it?
Yes, for now, the kids and mom "win", which is a really wrongheaded way to look at it, but that's what the judge did. How dare they defy her and what I find telling, is the judge telling a child that he will be in juvie until he has a healthy relationship with his father.
You can't order that!
I want to believe these kids are defiant for what the believe in, not just because.
Aside from being shocked at reading about the judge putting kids in juvie for not seeing their dad, I'm fascinated by the story because Kate acts like some of her kids not seeing their dad is no big deal at all.
I think she said it's "a good thing".
OK. I'll relent. You've convinced me it's a tup girl's hand. Definitely not Cara as she likes long nails and definitely not Mady because she likes to wear fingernail polish. At least Kate was at the pool watching the kids. I won't concede that TFM has "smallish" hands LOL.

Yes, it gets to the heart of the matter which is that at that level it's all about managing one big PR campaign. In this case with a doofus at the helm and some incompetent minions. The running joke never gets old.
TLC Stinks (#113), ah, but we don't know that TFW was actually watching the kids. We know a picture was taken. I didn't look,
but I assume she wasn't in it, or there'd be comments about her appearance. She may have run outside, taken the picture, and
went right back to whatever she was doing inside. Or she
could've been sitting out by the pool with her head buried in her
pink phone reading gossip sites online. Or texting anyone and everyone she knows, just to avoid having to interact with her kids.
As I've said before, I don't think she derives any pleasure
from being around her children. And actually playing with
them seems to be something written for her to do in a script,
not something that happens organically. Look how she's
described summer vacation -- sleeping in, and going in
the pool. If that ain't mediocre, I don't know what is.

I don't think Trump will try to pass himself off as one of the "common folk" at all. He has always reveled in his Trump-ness, and never pretended to be anything else. It's both annoying and refreshing at the same time. He puts it out there. It will be interesting to see how he plays his hand as he goes forward in his campaign.
I watched some of the new episodes on Youtube so I could hear the part about Collin. What I found noteworthy was that these new episodes weren't entertaining at all. It was a bunch of 11-year-olds doing what 11-year-olds do. The old charm of so many cute kids is gone. Now it's just average kids doing average things while their mother pats herself on the back and repeats 8,000 times that she's going to have 8 teenagers in the house soon. But-- wasn't it interesting that the same mother who had a complete meltdown over a kid touching pizza with her bare hands was shown grabbing slices of pizza with her own bare hands and slapping them on plates for all the kids (11th birthday)? I guess it's just kids who are too disgusting to touch anything, and her highness is too special to have germs.
I had to fast-forward over most of them, but the part about Collin was definitely a prepared statement that she was reading. Nothing spontaneous about it, and I had to wonder if she added that part to make that episode less boring, or was she trying to pretend to have some actual concern about C? The whole thing was so monotonous and mundane that I could see her watching the finished product (she is a producer, after all), realizing it lacked any spark, and added the Collin message to liven it up a bit. Whatever it was, it is obvious that there is no "it" factor to this family. They are just like any other family, their trips and birthdays are no more interesting than anyone else's. Kate is throwing in statements about Collin and putting on a bikini to try to draw some interest. Judging by the ratings, it's not working. That certain something they used to have is now gone.

If I were Kate, as a producer, I'd throw out the old formula and go for broke. The old footage of little kids and couch interviews is stale.

Kate's interviews are SSDD, only with a bit of overacting thrown in and failed attempts to be folksy and relatable.
I burst out laughing at the found crab on the beach scene! Really? A sand crab as big as my pinky fingernail makes the highlight reel?
I don't think Kate used Colin to shake things up for rating. I think she made her kids cry ON PURPOSE, for ratings.

Although her little prepared statement about Collin may have been added at the last minute, I don't believe it had anything to do with livening the show up. It was PR 101: get ahead of the story.

Here's my main suggestion towards bettering campaigns: give each candidate the same amount of money. It could go up the farther you get and whether you're running for city/state/national.
I know some people think it's a huge, important right to donate cash to their preferred person/party but it just blows me away the amount of money wasted by losing candidates.

COME AND GETCHER POPCORN!
Must see tv!
I don't really think the G kids or parents had an 'it' factor. It was just an interesting show to see a normal family ( aka how I became formerly duped !) struggling with 8 children on one salary and Kate's odd shift as a nurse. They lived in a modest house, looked average, did normal things like get through a daily routine, deal with life's little trials, budget and manage. It appealed to me because I liked the Dilleys' specials and similar stories and this seemed like a 'family' show. Nope. When they added in all the special day trips, followed by travels & freebies, I lost interest. But of course when I noticed how mean, phoney and unfair Kate was to both husband and offspring, I became appalled and watched , disbelievingly, as Kate grew greedier, more vile and the money rolled in.
What I had enjoyed was how a normal family in an unusual situation, lived the mediocre life. Now the specials are boring, the kids mainly insufferable, and Kate as disgusting as ever. When I learned about the abuse, I was horrified. That's when I read the blogs and ended up here.

He's not going to do that, and I think that most people who have a lick of smarts know that it's not on his agenda. He's not "common folk," and I believe that for many, that appeals to them. He's a straight-shooter, doesn't blow out of both sides of his mouth just to get votes. He tells it like it is, and I bet that there are many out there who don't want to see him kiss babies, humble himself and spend time at shelters, and present himself as someone he is not. For some, he's unlike any politician in recent years, and they may find this the change that's needed and in fact, even refreshing.
If he made his money doing shady deals, everything will be uncovered. The digging for a scandal, fraud, and whatever, will be done. You can bet on that. I just can't imagine him willing to risk everything when he knows that he will be scrutinized even more than before. I'm sure that there they will be looking at how, in the late 80s and early 90s, his business was bankrupt and he was close to personal bankruptcy as well, and yet he did a turn-around and came out of all that. It's not done simply on luck and good fortune.
It should be interesting to see how far he goes this time in the political arena and exactly how transparent he will be in the disclosure of personal and financial information. If nothing else, it should be entertaining.

I think that's exactly what voters are responding to. They'd rather see someone be honest and real than someone just saying what they want to hear. Other politicians could take a page from the playbook.
You are looking at complex issue in very black and white terms

I think saying all kids in Juvie are the result of parental failures is black and white. And frankly quite hurtful to an attentive and responsible parent who has tried everything but still had a child end up in Juvie.
I see Trump as nothing but a businessman. Who only knows business. He is approaching this Presidential election as a businessman. And a shit stirrer, which is probably what is needed on both sides, cause, with the exception of Bernie Sanders, who is bringing up stuff, none of the other candidates are saying much about anything. Trump wants to run the country like a business, what works in business, does not work for a country. One wrong word to a foreign country and we can be in war, Trumps straight shooting could cause a war. The US is not a business. JMO

"Mr. Putin, you're FIRED!"
"We're bombing every country that ends in "STAN" into the next century."
"Kim Jong-un, we've revoked Dennis Rodman's travel visa"

Yes, Trump is stirring the base right now and striking a chord, but while I realize no candidate is the total package, I think he's bound to piss off another group and another group and another group.
Yes, your Honor, I said "piss off"!
I hope that the ripple effect is that other candidates can't skirt immigration (lest they look like servile wimps) and stop being so PC about a really big problem we've got on our hands.

Number 1
1. Gosselin Continues To Date Her Married Bodyguard
Longtime Gosselin bodyguard Steve Neild has been rumored to have dated the reality star for several years, but it was reported that the two parted ways and Gosselin was involved with another man. The two recently reconciled and were seen together during a family vacation the reality star took with her family to celebrate her 40th birthday. A report published by The Hollywood Gossip claims that Neild, who has two grown kids, has his own room in Gosselin's Pennsylvania home, where he "spends one week a month with Kate."
Why can't one of these outlets check to see if Gina and Steve are still married, divorced. Remember the trip that Gina and Steve took a couple of years ago? I remember talking about it here. We thought that they went to NZ. They could of gotten divorced.
Has Kate responded to Milo's tweets about the golf tournament? If not, I guess this means it's back to the drawing board for Milo to plan her next move for a few bones to be thrown in her direction. Wouldn't you think that she would get tired of this by now, or at least get the hint that Kate cares nothing about her? What will it take for Milo to remove those blinders and see things as they really are? it must hurt like heck to have the love of your life ignore you and offer you nothing in return for your complete and undying devotion, especially when Gladys sees her tweeting other people.
I would think that even a few crumbs thrown at her every now and then should keep her happy.
Ross Perot was also seen as a viable candidate once. He was liked by many because of his blunt approach to everything. He spoke for himself mostly, rather than for a set political platform. His candidacy is a dim memory for me.
ITA, Tucker's Mom. Since the kids are not actors, the alternative to creating drama is to PURPOSIVELY upset the kids. This is just plain cruel and abusive. I believe most people see this for what it is. Being the manipulator she is, she know exactly what buttons to push. She is totally responsible because after all, she is the "producer". She cannot blame editing.
To me, if they are divorced, then why not just come out about the relationship? In fact, introducing him as a stepfather would add a new dimension to the show. Frankly, I think Steve is just a cheater and Gina is a wife who tolerates it, maybe because of finances, their sons or fear of having to leave the U.S. Some women just turn a blind eye as long as the husband comes home. If he were divorced, don't you think Kate would have married him by now?
If he were divorced, don't you think Kate would have married him by now?

I kind of think that he must want to marry her! Why marry her if he can get the milk for free?

Didn't their children go with them as well? Isn't that what most people do who get a divorce -- take the children along to witness and celebrate it? Yes, that's snark.

Jane (#154), no picture, no proof! I don't believe Shoka

Whenever she tweets on a weekend, I think it's her way
of letting us know the kids are with her -- to create the
illusion that they're never with their dad.
I think TFW has some sort of lotto-ball machine where
different characters and locations come up for her to
spin her imaginary stories about. Shoka, C, bedroom.
Zorro, A, kitchen etc. Kind of a variation on the Clue

Yes. I say bring him right into the thick of it. He's shaking things up, calling people out and forcing important issues to be discussed when maybe some would rather not.

So far, she's not on TLC's schedule.
****************
You're right, and according to The Futon Critic site, which seems to have the most up-to-date information, the future of the show is still undecided. Of course, TLC could renew the show any day, but what do they film? Vacations have been done to death. The kids will be going back to school in a few weeks, so they'd better get busy if they want to get some new episodes filmed. I bet Kate is on the phone every day, pushing for another season and a summer filming trip.
In the new episodes, they seemed to drag out the scenes way too long. Yes, we get it, the kids are roller skating, eating pizza, acting up at a hotel. But they just dragged on and on. Kate repeats herself endlessly in the couch interviews. The kids will all be teenagers soon, she's tired, she does it all herself, she lasted another year, blah, blah, blah. In the Mother's Day episode she must have repeated the line about having no idea what they kids were doing in the kitchen at least 5 times. And yet she said she smelled bacon, the kids had her buy ingredients, and the kids banned her from the kitchen at breakfast time. On Mother's Day. But she had no idea. Right…
Here's an idea for TLC--do something new! Doing the same old things and repeating the same old party lines is not bringing in the viewers. Case in point, the 10th birthday episode brought in about 2.4 viewers. The 11th birthday got barely 1 million. The New England trip episodes averaged more than 1.5 million, the Mexico trip a half million less. Either they need to find something fresh or they need to let this stale show go.
Guess who wants to chat with me? Stephanie! Has anyone else been so lucky? I thought that maybe she went into seclusion after too much partying.

Are you sure you didn't precariously laugh out loud?
Ah. sheep. Yes, screaming when a dog sneezes can be such a hoot that it must be tweeted.
It’s also really common for kids to (of their own volition!) not like a parent and not feel safe with them. All those kids are old enough to have their own opinions. I can’t tell you how shitty it is to be told by the court that because you are not 18, it is impossible that you would have any independent thought and that anything that comes out of your mouth must have been planted there by an adult.
and
Right? It’s like the ultimate gaslighting. You can’t possibly have independent thoughts! Someone must be telling you to hate your other parent because in literally every non-divorced household all the children get along swimmingly with both parents all of the time!
What do you mean that other parent treats you like crap, abuses, or ignores you when you see them? That’s just someone getting into your head!

I also tweeted this to Paul Peterson and everyone I could think of who would help these poor kids. Feel free to pass along if u like.
the judge has no authority to do this. The children are not parties before the court. There’s a reason family law experts are up in arms over this. It is virtually unprecedented. If kids do not want to have a relationship with their father, that is not something a court can force on them. Period. She may be frustrated, but her duty is to be a disinterested, dispassionate party who applies the law, not one who takes extralegal actions that clearly violate the rights of citizens.
The mother could be a monster and I would still think that the judge was abusive to those children. Her language was abusive. Putting them into juvie was abusive. The children need therapy, not jail.
Has Kate responded to Milo's tweets about the golf tournament? If not, I guess this means it's back to the drawing board for Milo to plan her next move for a few bones to be thrown in her direction.

She won't tweet to Milo about the tournament, but she finds a sneezing dog much more tweet-worthy. Kate probably has no idea what LPGA is. She probably thinks it's a new TLC show, "Little People Gone Awry."

One of the players had on the long sleeve underarmour shirts with a short sleeve shirt over it. I have read on here how hot it is there. How can you wear layered clothing on a hot day at a golf tournament?

&&&&
I'm pretty sure the children ARE parties. They would be in CA. They each have their own attorney, so I would classify them as parties. The judge does have authority to order parties to do certain things, like see their father, and hold that party in contempt when they don't follow the order, which is what she did.
Actually hypothetically I think the judge could even order a non-party to be in contempt. Like say a non-party grandmother was ordered to turn a child over to a parent but refused, conceivably, the judge has every right to throw her in jail even though she's not really a party.
A judge I know says when she did training for being a civil judge they pretty much told them don't hold anyone in contempt because it's so difficult to do you risk messing it up and being reversed. You have to prepare a written statement of cause and do other specific things. I've only seen someone jailed for contempt about three times and every time it was because they were hiding the child and refused to disclose the child's location.
Hell, I don't know if Shoka was in her bedroom or not, but if they had not ever heard that dog sneeze, then I agree with Sandylove and redbird that the dog is rarely indoors. How could you not know your pet's sounds if the animal is around you all the time? And why tweet this? Because it's all about proving the dog comes inside, he's a family member, and the kids like to hang with mom in her bedroom. She is so pathetic with this tweet. How could him sneezing set off screaming? Childish and it upset the dog. Shoka must be a gentle soul to put up with them.
You're right PJ, the heart of free speech is your freedom to have an opinion about a situation that not everyone agrees with. We all come from different places and one's opinion may be completely different based on things they have seen or experienced that others haven't, or vice versa.
The sheeple don't want anyone to have an opinion that they don't like or can't understand. That is not what this country is all about.

There are people in this world that come from absolutely horrible situations, but they put it behind them and not only survive, but thrive. Having a good life is a choice. That's my hope for the G kids. That despite their abuse, they see the good in life and don't end up like their mother. I hope they break away and use their upbringing as a reason to live their life differently.
DT for POTUS? I don't know. He'll certainly shake things up. But I don't know if I've ever seen a public figure fight as dirty as he does. When he doesn't have a winning hand he resorts to name calling or other insults. Think Rosie O'Donnell.

Kate saying that Shoka's sneezing make them all leap, jump and scream is further evidence that she's raising silly young ladies.
This type of reaction should be discouraged. You don't want your girls to become hand-flapping, eyeball rolling, scoffing, shrieking women.
My mother encouraged maturity, and strongly discouraged carrying on babyish behaviors.
Still, what Kate tweets suggest the kids are very immature.
Zorro should/could be a "calendar bird"? C'mon. That's another image of a really immature thing that a 5-year old would say.
I'd be impressed if the child took a photo and mocked up a calendar with a computer program.
Tweet that!
I respectively disagree, Admin. Here's why the GOP is panicked over Trump. This is from a liberal article and I inserted the word "base" and "establishment" because I disagree with author's premise about all Republican voters.
"Donald Trump is giving Republican (base) voters what they want. He is a politically uneducated, fire breathing, racist and bigot.
(Establishment) Republicans have trafficked in racism and catered to right-wing extremists for years. They created the environment that has allowed Donald Trump to flourish as a candidate, and now they are trying to put the genie back in the bottle.
Donald Trump doesn’t have to listen to the Republican Party. Because Republicans frontloaded their primary process, they created a process that will allow Trump to stay in the race for a long time.
Republicans are freaking out because they realize that one of the consequences of selling their party to the conservative billionaires is that they have no ability to control Donald Trump.
If something doesn’t change soon, Trump’s magic formula of racism + media attention = rising poll numbers could make a long-term presence in the Republican field."
@@@@@@@
The big fear now for the GOP is that Trump will take his billions and start a third party. I believe this is a very likely scenario because his poll numbers will retreat and he will not throw his support behind anyone like Jeb Bush. Shades of Ralph Nader in a tight race, a spoiler as the base will support Trump. Trump's ego will never allow him to listen to the pleas of party leaders or Chairman Reince Priebus.
Having said all this, I find that Trump's presence is refreshing because he has no filter. He's not a political creature. No one can buy him. I disagree with his views, but his presence in the race has opened up conversations about issues that need solutions, not more of the same. He is shaking things up and I'm ok with that.

Well said ;-)
I'd give almost anything to hear my dog sneeze again and I certainly wouldn't shriek in fear.
My goodness, Shoka has been 'a member of the family ' for 6 years! Surely he has sneezed before in their presence? I hope Kate isn't telling the truth because if she is, as Tucker said, the girls are becoming true mini-me Kates. It's already evident in the girl tups' behavior and Mady's exaggerations, meanness to the 'littles' and sarcasm. As for poor Shoka, the kids are being deprived of the joys of having a dog for a companion and pet. Kate even mentioned they went to Shoka to unload when they were upset.
The idea the GOP is panicking over Trump is silly. He's just a larger than life celebrity and a novelty that's sparked some interest. I don't think anyone is seriously concerned about him. The republicans I know find this all good fun and amusing. Not panicking lol.
The Donald Trump thing reminds me of the Jessie Ventura thing, only on a national level.
Jessie was similar to Trump. Viewed as a breath of fresh air, nobody had bought him, spoke his mind, had no filter, etc.
He got elected governor and proceeded to waste the opportunity he'd been given to make a difference. He big reason for getting elected was that he had no filter, and his biggest downfall as gov was that he had no filter.
Once elected, he got carried away with all the power and fame, how much it was all about him. A la TFW.
He made some good things happen, but they were minor, and not many of them. Usually small, off-the-wall things. Things that he could throw his weight around on. He wasn't into collaboration, he was into being a dictatorship.
He was really into how the perks of office could benefit him. Doing things that were outlandish just because he could. I would imagine Trump might easily end up in the same category.
OT just for fun! Saw theses guys last night, this YouTube video someone I don't know posted from a prior show.

Good points above re: politics.
The thing about these egotistic, bombastic iconoclasts is that they won't shed their personal identity to become the office.
No U.S. of Trump, Air Force Trump, TOTUS.
Trump is hitting a nerve for a reason, but the U.S of A. isn't just a country that shares a border with Mexico.
There are millions of one-issue voters at every election, and he will appeal to them.
Many more will agree with Trump on the issue itself, but will never vote for him.
Trump is striking at a time when racial tensions are at a high not seen for a very long time.
