I hope everyone will indulge me in a brief hiatus from our usual posts to do one of my "recaps", this time about my own reality, my visit to the Australia Zoo last week. My reason for doing such a personal recap is because there is a pretty strong connection to our chatter on this blog and this zoo. Number one, Kate Plus 8 filmed some episodes of the show in Australia and had their own spin on what goes on at the zoo which may not have been entirely accurate. Secondly, Bindi Irwin is probably Australia's most exploited child, even attracting attention from legislatures there who are concerned about her welfare, and for that reason alone I think it's interesting to keep up with what that family is up to.
And I guess a third reason is I think you'll enjoy hearing about this as I enjoyed my day there.
I won't bore you with the long details about how I ended up in Australia. The short version is I was given a wonderful opportunity to work here for a couple weeks, an opportunity which also included some leisure time such as a visit to the Great Barrier Reef and a stay on a cattle station, and I couldn't pass that up. This was one of those right place and right time things that came my way and makes me feel very lucky and appreciative.
So last week I stepped on that 14 hour flight out of LAX bound for Sydney with several other colleagues. I'm not going to lie, that flight was brutal, but there were lots of new movies to watch and enough episodes of Veep to have me giggling a good two-thirds of the way across the Pacific. ("How much would I love to speak my mind on this campaign Can you imagine if I did that? 'Mississippi is chock full of assholes, I don't trust the Chinese, and I gotta tell you something. I'm not going to be able to pass a single piece of legislation that's really going to make any fuck of a difference in your life.' How's that for a campaign platform?") Going back, the flight was more than an hour shorter which was a difference you could feel. Every hour counts when it's that long I guess.

After a few days recovering from our jet lag in Sydney, where not me but some of us were unfortunately vomiting for a few days (airplane food, we decided) we headed up on a short flight to Brisbane, near where the Australia Zoo is located. We made our home base in the gorgeous seaside surfer town of Caloundra, which hosts an old ship wreck the S.S. Dicky that is probably the most beautiful thing you will ever see at sunrise. A few of us managed to get up to witness it two days in a row. This was the prettier of the two mornings though both were spectacular.
We planned almost an entire free day at the zoo and nearby koala hospital, and hit the ground as soon as it opened at 10 a.m. the day after we arrived in Caloundra.
My first impressions of the zoo was that it was extremely clean, very large, and quite classy. There was very little that was tacky about it as some attractions like this tend to be. It is of course heavy on Steve, with his photo plastered pretty much everywhere, but the heir apparent Bindi is everywhere too. Overlooking a croc infested creek there's Bindi's treehouse, which you can look at but not actually go up in, and coming later this year is something called Bindi's island. None of us bothered to figure out what that was about. A lot of people were commenting that Robert, her younger brother, is hardly anywhere. Neither is Terri for that matter. The marketing team knows what sells, and that's Steve and Bindi. Some remarked that they felt bad for Robert, who perhaps might feel like he plays second fiddle to his sister and dad. (I suppose it's also possible Robert doesn't want to be a part of this, though I doubt it.)
In the morning we wandered from exhibit to exhibit, just checking out whatever was nearby. We saw the crocs, several different birds, and snakes. They had camels you could ride and a sleepy tiger you could get your photo taken with, which I believe is the same one Kate got her photo taken with. It was kind of funny to see three zookeepers in there with the tiger, the people just sitting there on the ground hanging out like it was the most normal thing in the world. We speculated the tiger might be drugged, but I hope not. We saw koalas, one with a little baby riding on her mommy's back that was ridiculously adorable. Zookeepers were everywhere in the zoo, answering questions and often bringing the animals out of the enclosures for a closer look. We saw one worker actually walking a perfectly content wombat like you might a dog.
They were moving him for some reason. I asked if that's how they always move them and they said yes. Well, that seems more humane than sedating it and throwing it in a crate, as long as it's happy to walk with you.

I have to say I was impressed with the zookeepers. Most of them were very young, enthusiastic, and had the most nurturing touch with the animals. I watched one young woman remove a dozing koala from a tree with such a gentle hand, like a mother might wake up their sleeping toddler. There are also many areas of the zoo that are hands on and encourage you to touch and pet the animals, which Steve Irwin was so big on (and at times, criticized for) and there was always someone nearby to monitor everyone and make sure the animals were okay. I heard a few zookeepers speak up and ask people to step back when they felt the animal was getting too crowded, but I never saw the animals themselves act uncomfortable. The spirit of Steve and how he believed we should interact with wildlife, whether you agree, carries on.
Now to what I imagine the zoo would consider its highlights. They have a huge enclosed area with a bunch of little kangaroos ranging from about three to five feet tall. They just hop around of their own accord and are perfectly tame around people. We bought some feed and went in and hand fed them.
It was really fun and the roos had such personalities. I have a hysterical selfie with one where he looks like a silly kid photobombing me. Some of them had babies in their pouches and I saw them kicking in there like a human fetus kicks his mother. Someone else in my group saw one poke a little head out but sadly I missed that. I took a lot of photos in there and I didn't have to approach a roo, they would approach me and mug for my camera. I felt very much at ease in that exhibit.
There is another similar roo feeding area with a different breed of kangaroos. I think it was Red Kangaroos. They were just as outgoing, but because we stopped by that later they were pretty full and not interested in eating. After that our group all took a turn holding a koala.
It was like holding a sleepy toddler, they were adorable and clung to you instantly. It was very special. I said they looked like sleepy babies, others said they looked like sleepy drunks. Whichever you prefer!
At noon we gathered in the "Crocoseum" for the croc show.
I imagine the show we saw was similar to what was shown on Kate Plus 8. This part was probably the least enjoyable for me. There was a lot of teasing of the crocs with bait and even trainers to get them to come out of the water or do certain things. Shades of Sea World. I did enjoy the birds, who flew very close to our heads.
Australians in general I've found to be honest, inviting, and curious. They also love to tease and laugh and when I asked some zoo staff where the "restroom" was they burst into giggles and said, "Restroom! You don't rest in it!" They just call it "the toilet" there and thought the Americans and their Americanisms were good fun. Which reminds me, the Australians we were with remembered it was the Fourth of July, which none of us expected them to (after all, most of us don't have the first clue what their holidays are or when), and made us a beautiful flag cake. I think most of us cried when they brought that out, it was just so kind.
It was fairly crowded at the zoo the day we went, although to be fair it was the first day of winter break for Australian school children, so it's hard to judge what it would look like on a regular day. The winter weather was beautiful, in the high 60's, with just a light shower in the morning we barely noticed because we were so absorbed in hanging out with the roos.
Australians are also chatty and love to tell you what they think if you ask. They don't have some idea that they best not say what they think to strangers out of politeness, as some cultures do, including to some extent our own. They are my sort of people! I had chatted up several of them throughout the trip and found out some interesting dirt about Terri. I met someone who knew Steve and said he was just as he was on TV and that everyone loved him, but that most people were not too keen on Terri. He found her to be standoffish and was never able to form any kind of friendship with her as he did Steve. I found myself wondering exactly what Steve saw in Terri, since everyone describes him as so genuine, and she as, frankly, a hot mess. Australians are very aware of the criticism of the Irwins and it makes them uncomfortable. The zoo has been struggling even before Steve's death, and the turning point as one Australian thought, was when Steve held baby Robert near a croc. He said from that moment on they never recovered.
Terri is estranged from Steve's father and he has washed his hands of the zoo, however under Australian law he apparently still has access to and sees Bindi and Robert. The zoo staff is, according to those I talked to, quite concerned about Terri's handling of the zoo's finances. This I had heard in the press, too.
Many locals were also vocal that they didn't like the zoo either, in particular the way you are allowed to touch and hold some of the animals. They said if you encountered a kangaroo or koala in the wild (which I did, incidentally, at about 11 o'clock at night I ran into three roos bigger than me--although that's another story!) you should quietly walk way around it or they'll claw your eyes out. I quietly walked around the three I saw! Way around.

At the end of the day a zoo is a zoo and I don't find them particularly necessary, but if you must have a zoo, they did as good of a job as you can with it. I give them credit for getting rid of some of the most exploitive exhibits, like the elephants, even if it were more for financial reasons, and for taking care to hire a staff that treats these animals like their own children. I also know many people who had a stake in the zoo have lines they won't cross. For instance, Steve Irwin's father has been very vocal about his disgust with Sea World. I've been to Sea World San Diego as well and I never felt the level of comfort there that I did at the Australia Zoo. This zoo has its issues, but it was not Sea World.
After a nice lunch in a big food court near the Crocoseum we headed over to the Koala Hospital, which is just a short walk over on the other side of the parking lot.
Here is where my heart just swelled. This is a real living working hospital that takes in injured animals and restores them to health. Many are released back to the wild. If they cannot return safely to the wild they are absorbed into the zoo or go to other good homes. They have it all open for viewing with huge glass windows, and some of the vets were working right at that moment on a sea turtle. You can see in the photo a great example of the gentle, loving touch of the vets. One of the doctors was actually soothingly rubbing the turtle's back. I don't know if a sick turtle responds to a back rub, but it's worth a try.
The vets came over to the windows to talk to us and show us the turtle up close.
When we were there they were treating several animals including a koala who shattered his pelvis when he was hit by a car. He was doing well enough to rest in a little tree they had set up for him. You could see little shaved spots on his tiny back where they had been working on him. The turtle was suffering from excess air in its body and shell. Apparently a defense mechanism when turtles are injured is to retain excess air, however too much can kill them. There is treatment for it that can help it get better. They did not know how he was injured but guessed maybe a boat.
I'd love to see the zoo focus much more on this rehabilitation, but I suppose the other exhibits help fund this great work. We asked ahead of time if the hospital needed anything, and they said they could use office supplies like post its and pens, and that they could always use new or gently used towels. Well, my group delivered, and brought over from the U.S. with us the motherload pile of supplies you see here in front of one of the vets. I'm very proud of these Americans.
All in all it was a wonderful day, I learned so much, and we all felt so good about being able to help out the hospital with supplies.
Thank you everyone for your patience while I've been absent from the blog. I'm glad I'm able to share with you some of the cool things I did while you were stuck on the same post! Australia may be a progressive country but it could use some work when it comes to its wifi! It's nonexistent in many places and slow as all get out in most others. Incidentally, one of the few times we had really good wifi was at the zoo (thank you, Terri, for that), but of course when that happened we were too busy seeing the zoo to be online much. Thanks again all you blokes and g'day!

«Oldest ‹Older 801 – 1000 of 1027 Newer› Newest»German Shepard owner here. Mine sheds constantly. My husband brushes him every day and the dog can walk right back into the house, shake, and more fur will fly. I vacuum every day except Sunday but he is worth it so I don't complain. He loves everyone in the family but my husband is the one who he claims. When they are together our dog doesn't take his eyes off him. But the funny thing is when it comes to the dog, I'm the boss. When I give him a command he does it. When my husband gives him a command, he just looks at him. I just sit there and laugh. He's not allowed on our bed but he does sleep in our room on a nice bed. He's getting on in years (he'll be 11 in December) and he's slowing down. His hips are getting bad, he's slow to get up and doesn't like to walk too far. We dread the day when he will no longer be with us. We will be devastated. Until then, we enjoy him as he is now.
Redbird...belated congrats on your new grandbaby.
Love Last Tango in Halifax. Alan was right...Celia is her own worst enemy. She plays victim very well. Lots of twists and turns this season. This is why I love British television.
Hope everyone's summer is going well.
Admin...Welcome back. Glad you enjoyed your trip.
Ohh, almost forgot. My homepage said a Dugger just got engaged but I didn't read the article. Not that interested.

BTW,on the Figure8 Films website, they mentioned two "summer episodes", which are the ones that just aired, and "more episodes coming later this year".
"Later this year" could be anytime from September-December. I think Milo is going to have a long wait before any dates are announced.
********************
That is exactly what it said last year at this time. I wonder if there are new episodes in the bag, or if Figure 8 just didn't update anyhting in the last year. The write-up on 19 Kids (their "Featured Show") Says, "Will Jess and Ben be the next to head down the aisle"? Of course, Jessa and Ben are married and expecting, and I doubt anyone would refer to 19 Kids as their "featured show" right now. So, it's possible that they just don't update very often.
I do think there will be more epsiodes, and that ratings will continue to fall until TLC has no choice but to drop it again. What remains to be seen is how soon that will happen.
Wow, just read an interview with Jacob Roloff, wow, he certainly has turned out to be a nasty kid. Does not believe in God, swears, takes drugs and is not taking part in filming of the new season, he only signed a waiver, to be filmed for Zach wedding. I had thought, he was off to college, when he packed his stuff and got into the truck and drove away, in the commercial. In an interview with Amy, Jacob wants to leave the farm.
Kate thinks filming is just fine for the kids, it does not effect them. Here is Jacob Roloff, filmed for 8 years of his life. He said in the interview how he hated being filmed, but cause he was a kid had nothing to say about it. When he turned 18, he said no more filming. He called everything you saw on the show was fake and it still is fake, and he wants nothing to do with it. This kid is on the road to a trainwreck. He admitted that he has no direction, school is bogus, and he takes drugs. Not to mention that he does no longer believe in God, having been raised in a religious way, but that is his choice. My niece is agnostic, and I'm OK with that, a few neighbors are atheists, yeah, so! So when Kate says they are not affected, they are.
He's getting on in years (he'll be 11 in December) and he's slowing down. His hips are getting bad, he's slow to get up and doesn't like to walk too far. We dread the day when he will no longer be with us. We will be devastated. Until then, we enjoy him as he is now.

I began my dogs on Adequan injections when they started to show signs of difficulty moving. I think it's helped our Beardie keep moving.
He's also getting cold laser treatments off and on, and is on rimadyl.
It's hard watching them slow down. Those back legs get harder and harder to maneuver.
Our Beardie has a double coat and the undercoat sheds, but not all over the place.
I really couldn't do a coat that does that. Our lab shed a couple times a year, but it wasn't like every time you pet her, the fur went flying.
Bichons are low maintenance with shedding, high maintenance grooming.
Ohh, almost forgot. My homepage said a Dugger just got engaged but I didn't read the article. Not that interested.

Amy, the niece. She doesn't seem as "cultish". Or is she?
Capecodmama....the Duggar getting married is the cousin Amy. At least she got to choose her husband to be and even kiss and hold hands.
I think Josiah, 18 years old, has to 1. wait for his 17 year old girl friend to become of age or 2. wait for the show to return so they can afford to bake 2,000 cookies for the guests. Now that is really a frugal, cheap wedding.
I do think there will be more epsiodes, and that ratings will continue to fall until TLC has no choice but to drop it again. What remains to be seen is how soon that will happen.

I can't see TLC filming during the school year. School is getting harder, 2 different schools, kids spending precious time with Jon.
When is there time to film besides holidays?
At least, shame on them if they make those kids film and juggle everything else.
I don't know if TLC will make any sort of announcement that the show is canceled. I don't recall TLC ever announced that they renewed the actual show- it's just specials, even though Kate got to call a handful of consecutive episodes a season.
I think the show will go dormant from time to time, and we'll see graduations, driving, proms maybe, marriages, babies...

Do you have a link?
Some of the G kids are going to be very angry when it sinks in how scripted their lives were-all for money, fame and privilege.
I think some are going to be pissed knowing that they missed out on a lot of things because of filming. Yeah, yeah, they travel a lot, but really, at their young ages, they should have been developing other skills that they'll never have the opportunity to again.
Not will their peers.

@BarbGilmer omg I can’t take it. I look at my Shokie & I tell him all the X ‘you need to live forever, okay?’ I can’t imagine;makes me cry!
But Kate, you gave him back to the breeder. You obviously didn't care if he lived or died.

Yes, but now that she's trying to re-invent herself as the animal loving Ms Doolittle, that didn't happen. It's been erased from history and that video of the kids standing in the doorway looking sad as "Shokie" and Nala get hauled off in their crates? That's just an illusion. Never happened.
We mustn't trade fact for Kate's fiction. Her sheeple read here and that only confuses them more.

What a deal! I'll check it out tonight. Looking forward to it. Don't need to get hooked on another great show and get nothing done today. :)

Are you saying that they can get more confused than they already are?
"Amy does encourage, all the kids to go after their own dreams. Amys clutter is her way of control, and getting back at Matt's control issues. JMO"

Then again, some people are just slobs because they are too lazy to clean up and get rid of the clutter and it has has nothing to do with control!

And according to Robert's book, he saw Shoka off the property grounds, running down the road, Kate was in the car and saw him, but never stopped. She didn't care if he was hit by a car, but now she wants him to live forever. Geez.

Just when you think they can't, they do. It all depends on how strong or how weak Kate mixes the kool-aid on any given day.
I wonder if TFW has read that interview with Jacob Roloff - I haven't, I'm going by what 'getofftweeter' reported (comment #3). I don't know about Mady, but I think Cara will be the first to sign off TLC at 18 unless of course TLC sign off on all nine of them before that.

@MiloandJack @Kateplusmy8 awesome! I love the specials on TLC but I'm dying for a week to week series of new episodes

"Yeah! Let's get those kids working full time and go back to cranking out 50+ episodes a year for your entertainment and pleasure!!"
*************************************************
Exactly. Who cares what's best for these kids when the fans are "dying" for weekly episodes.
Awwwww, the poor fans. How DO they manage to get out of bed every day when they don't have someone else's kids to watch on television?
It's so infuriating that they can't see the absolute selfishness in their desire to be entertained by eight children being maltreated by their narcissistic mother.
These children have spent most of their young lives being exploited (I know, I say it like it's a bad thing) by a major television network, its producers and their very own mother and yet there are still people clamouring for more.
It's disturbing and disgusting.
I have to wonder how all this would have played out if it Jon and Kate's roles were reversed. Would the fans have backed Jon and begun attacking Kate?
It would very telling if the situation were reversed and the fans supported Kate in getting the kids off of t.v. It would definitely prove that the kids are actually irrelevant to the fans.
The city of Reading has a population of nearly 90,000. It is not a small hick town.
Interesting. The way TFW acted I always thought it had a population of 3000 or something like that.
++++++++++++
Kate doesn't live in the city of Reading. She lives in Wernersville, which according to her is Ghettoville, Hicksville, or whatever. The population is about 2,500 or so, and it's about fifteen miles from Reading. It's known for its state psychiatric hospital.
The place where Jon has his gig is not a small bar in a rural town that consists of only two streets, a gas station, grocery store and a Bates Motel. Gladys needs to stick to the area that she knows before she bashes a place about a thousand miles away. She just makes herself look like a bitter idiot.

&&&&
And even if it were, it's none of Milo's concern. Lots of people have jobs in small towns with just a gas station and a mini mart. As long as you are happy and supporting your children without making them work instead, it's none of her damn business--and it's immature to make fun of him, and insulting to those who do work small town jobs.
Where is the link to Jacob saying he hates filming? I can't find it anywhere.

Kate doesn't live in the city of Reading. She lives in Wernersville, which according to her is Ghettoville, Hicksville, or whatever. The population is about 2,500 or so, and it's about fifteen miles from Reading. It's known for its state psychiatric hospital.

So these are old tweets. They sound more like a teenager being defiant. As in whatever you tell me to do I don't want to do it for the simple fact that you told me to do it. Jacob has always been rather defiant and contrary. But the point being that when you have a hormonal teenager going through growing pains it doesn't seem emotionally prudent to put them through filming on top of it, especially when they say they don't want to do it, whatever their reasons.
If he's made more recent comments about filming now that he's a bit older I'd love to hear them. He hasn't had a huge role in any of the recent episodes in years. They have quietly phased him out.
Admin (#18), whenever Gladys makes fun of Jon, she outs herself
as someone who does not care one bit about the G kids.
Can she possibly conceive that if their dad fails in any way,
it could cause them to feel sadness or stress or fear or shame?
Yet she practically roots for him to mess up. Last week she
commented "why am I not surprised" about that DJ dispute
when she didn't even know the facts. What it all translates
to is, "I hate your ex as much as you do, K8! NOW can
we be best friends?!"

Oh, yes. Wernersville State Hospital. It's been in existence since the late 1800s, and it's reportedly haunted. It's about three miles or so from Kate's house.
Here is the 2 articles, of interviews with Jacob roloff. The first one was in Dec 2014. They talk & ask him about, his beliefs, and other things.
http://spiritswander.blogspot.com/2014/12/guest-opinion-article-jacob-roloffs.html
The other article is just after his birthday in January and this is where he talks about how fake the show was, and what he said on twitter, and how he is going to refuse to sign with TLC and how he dislike filming.

In an interview with Amy, Jacob wants to leave the farm
***
Of all the Roloff children, Jacob is the one I feel most sorry for. He is not a nasty kid. He is a child who was conceived in the hopes he would be a little person so his older brother, Zach, would have a sibling who was like him. How craptastic is that? And Jacob has known this all his life -- that his parents were disappointed when he was born "normal." If that happened to me, I would probably turn out to be a very unhappy person.
So what if he doesn't believe in God? That's his choice and it doesn't make him nasty. So what if he swears? The kid is trying to find himself, after living his life being basically ignored by his two idiot parents. I wish him well, and I hope he will consider getting some counseling to deal with his pain of having grown up in that household.

I have to completely agree with this. From seeing him on the show he is a good kid, quiet and loves deeply. He has every right to grow up and decide that Christianity isn't for him and heck, even seems ridiculous to him. He has every right to refuse to cooperate with filming or whatever else his parents want him to do. He has every right to decide he hates school, wants to have controversial views about education and other things that upset the pearl clutchers, wants to sleep with his girlfriend if he wants to (he is, after all, an adult).
I think a lot of it is baby of the family rebellion, rebellion against the lifestyle he has been forced to be a part of, and having three little people in the family. I noticed how he bonded very deeply with his grandparents and a family friend, almost like he couldn't quite get what he needed from his parents.
I actually kind of like Matt's statement about his children being individuals and how they adore Jacob for who he is regardless if all the kids are different. I hope that's true. I'm a little annoyed at the Roloff fans for not being very understanding.

And even if it were, it's none of Milo's concern. Lots of people have jobs in small towns with just a gas station and a mini mart. As long as you are happy and supporting your children without making them work instead, it's none of her damn business--and it's immature to make fun of him, and insulting to those who do work small town jobs.

Gladys is a real bitch, no matter how many g's she drops. As you say, Jon is earning an income, without exploiting his kids. He seems to be having some moderate success in the field. Good for him. Yes, the Roloffs are actually a perfect example of how four kids from the same house have come out with four different views on filming.
Jacob: Hates filming won't even sign a contract
Jeremy: Loves it and has allowed his engagement and wedding to be filmed.
Zach: Seems to like it but sets more boundaries than Jeremy. He wouldn't let his engagement be filmed and won't say the day of his wedding.
Molly: Seems like she could take it or leave it. If she has something better to do like a planned trip to Costa Rica, she's out.
Good luck, Kate.
And even if it were, it's none of Milo's concern.

The state mental hospital in Wernersville has a long history. I know someone who stayed there a few months and they really helped him. There is also a small correctional facility in Wernersville. I think it is on the grounds of the mental hospital. Lots of acreage there. It is mostly parole violators. There have been a number of escapes in recent years, mostly not returning from work release. I stumbled across a show, "Ghost Asylum," in which these places are investigated and the guys try to trap spirits in homemade contraptions. I didn't watch long enough to see if they caught anything.
Trans Allegheny was the subject of a paranormal investigation by Ghost Hunters. That one was interesting, and at the Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia, the crew caught a very creepy black apparition on film. I've been there, and that place is worth the visit, not necessarily for a paranormal experience, but for the history of it all. Al Capone's cell is set up as a replication of the way it was back in the day.

Millicent: If you read further down on my post, I said, I was fine with him not believing in God, that is his choice. The second article I read made a thing about him not believing and the Roloff fans are up in arms about it. His nastiness is how he answered the interviewer. He could have answered without coming off as nasty. Jacob does not have the social skills to do interviews and deal with the outside world. Yes, Jacob is an angry kid. As one of the commentors said, Jacob is ignored by his parents. Amy is at the age of empty nester, and she wants to go and try new things. Matt, he still hopes that the kids will come back to the farm and plant themselves, and take over the farm. Matt, that is not going to happen. Those kids have their own dreams. With the exception of Jacob. He has no direction, no job, not even going to college, it's like he is in limbo. And Matt & Amy don't seem too concerned. This kid is doing drugs, and no one seems to care. He could not go to a religious HS or the public one, said he did not like the kids, or the kids did not like him. Perhaps he pulled the I'm a star crap, that would get you either enemies real fast or kids who only want to use you. I think the guidance stopped after Molly. Poor kid. I do hope, never to hear that this kid OD'd. A train wreck waiting to happen.

Wow! I'd never heard that before. If it's true, how horrible for that child.
I, too, have no problem with Jacob demanding his basic human rights. Not believing in God, no filming etc. He's barely an adult. Better to be figuring these things out at 18 than never figuring them out at all. Not crazy about the drugs, but even then, weed is legal in a lot of states and Zanax is a prescription handed out by doctors every day. He's finding his way in this world. He was also a head injury as a young boy, due, IMO to the negligence of his parents and the TLC crew that was present.
I'm all for him breaking away and figuring out his life, as long as Mommy and Daddy aren't enabling him by footing the bill. If he wants independence, he should be working for it. I hope his share of the filming money was put into a trust for him. He's had a camera in his face for 11 years. He's earned it.
Pot is legal in Oregon, where Jacob lives, with restrictions. Measure 91. As long as he follows the law I don't care what he wants to smoke.
I don't really know whether his parents failed him. While it's obvious they have put all their chips on Jeremy, it doesn't mean they're not doing for Jacob. Jacob has always had just a small role on the show. I realize now that's because he resisted filming so much. Because we don't see him that much doesn't mean they aren't doing for him.
I feel like they've done a lot for him actually. He's had a lovely farm to grow up on, free range to have plenty of friends over all the time, freedom to see his gf all the time, sees his relatives all the time, traveled to foreign countries, and his family makes nothing but supportive comments about him. I think he's a child who has his own agenda different from most of the family, is more rebellious than the others and more likely to dabble in risky behaviors, and that would leave any parent feeling challenged.
I thought Matt's birthday words about him were nice, actually. All a child wants to hear is I love you just the way you are, and Matt said that. If I knew nothing about Matt otherwise I would think, now that's a good dad.
I am mostly disappointed the fans are being so mean about him. They will do the same to any Gosselin kids who want out.
I think there's been some growing pains and words spoken that can't be taken back because you're famous (that's how it goes, oh well!) but overall the three oldest kids seem like good kids who have good relationships with the whole family. That can't just be a coincidence, had to have been some good positive parenting at some point. Jake's cut from the same cloth.
Oh and by the way I think Zach's fiancee, an average sized school teacher, and Jeremy's wife are absolute dolls. Gentle, sweet, exuberant, beautiful. That says something.

I agree. Just because a commentator said that his family ignores him doesn't mean that it is so. His parents might be going through a very stressful time right now, doing some serious soul-searching about him and their relationship with him, but to say that his parents failed him and have nothing to do with him may be way off base.

Nice gesture, but Kate needs to leave these fledged birds alone. The mom didn't kick that bird out, just like the last one. It fledged.
That's what little baby birds do.
It obviously has been able to eat what it's been brought by its parents, but won't make it with that deformity.
Nature is tough.
Their hearts are in the right place.
DH and I kept a Downy Woodpecker in a shallow box to observe him after he knocked himself out hitting our window. We called our nearest rescue and they just said to observe him and keep him safe until and if he got his wits about him.
He flew off after about 15 minutes. Hopefully he made it.
So "Zorro" says they found the bird on the ground, and Kate says they found him in Shoka's food bowl, which apparently is outside.
So which is it?
I'm sure Shoka finds fledged birds all the time. He routinely kills wildlife and has killed many of their chickens, so the melodrama is weird.
It's a Twittersode.

What's the proof they have distanced from him? I think the evidence suggests Jake's the one who created the distance to avoid filming.
A child like that is sometimes saying controversial things for attention and sometimes the best thing to do is ignore the behaviors. Don't reward his shock value statements. That's also what could be going on. We just don't know. Jake's still so young and he may quickly outgrow his bitter 19 year old shock jock phase.

How does she know the mama bird kicked him out of the nest for a deformed beak? Maybe he hurt his beak in the fall.
We've had several birds fall out of the nest due to wind or who knows why all else. We've usually had great success with just picking them up with a towel and put them back in the nest. Works fine.
******************
You all do exactly the same...just substitute "Kate" for "Jon." How can you not recognize this?
&&&&
You're free to think it's the same but to me it's not at all because of two very important factors:
1. Jon is not exploiting his children to make a living and thus, subject to the same criticism of what he does as Kate is, who has structured her entire life around using the children and the fame they give her to make a buck.
2. Jon is not an active public figure and thus does not deserve hyper criticism of every move he makes like you would a public figure. Yes yes yes he says things once in awhile when asked, but it's just not enough to rise to that level of a public figure anymore in my opinion. He is doing a normal job anyone with a musical ear could try.
Remember the judge in the Cosby case ruling that the records COULD be released because he was such a high profile public figure the case was a matter of public concern. Had he not been so famous, such as just a Jon Gosselin, the records might have remained sealed. The distinction between public figures and private figures and the level of public scrutiny allowed toward them is a legal one and complex, and there is no way Jon and his new lifestyle where he has remained much more quiet rises to the level of Kate, Cosby, or many other famous people.
How does she know the mama bird kicked him out of the nest for a deformed beak? Maybe he hurt his beak in the fall.

I have to laugh when the sheep call the non-fans "busybodies." If they're name-calling, then they need to look no further than Mrs. Kravitz, the champion of busybodyism!
It is exactly the same. It doesn't matter whether Kate chooses to be more public than Jon. (I completely disagree that Jon has chosen to remove himself from the limelight, but that's irrelevant here.)
&&&
Your ***opinion** is it's exactly the same. That's not a fact. There are clear differences between Jon and Kate that are undeniable, and those matter to me in terms of how much scrutiny they deserve. I laid them out very clearly, and a huge one is he doesn't make his children work for his income. That is a fact. It is your opinion that that fact doesn't matter to you, but that's your OPINION. You are free to believe that, and I am free to hold a different one.
But to act like someone is a lunatic for distinguishing between the level of someone's fame and how much criticism they deserve not only is disingenuous but ignores the law that is very clear that there IS a difference. Read the long line of Supreme Court cases about public figures and what a public figure is. Jon doesn't qualify anymore, or at most, he might be a LIMITED public figure. You can read about what that is as well. You can disagree there should be no difference, but please don't act like if you disagree you're nuts. That's unfair, especially when the law is on the side of it does matter.

You can't make this stuff up. Wait a minute, apparently you can. As they like to say on another blog, "Even your lies don't make any sense." She really thinks people are that stupid. Then again, with her fans, I guess they are.
I just don't understand why you wouldn't first try to reunify the bird with his mother. Why you would immediately jump to some wild conclusion that the bird has been rejected when birds can fall out of nests very easily? His mother is the best place for him. If she puts him back in and she still doesn't want him that's another matter but did she even try that.
The bird doesn't have much of a chance raised by humans. I hope it somehow finds its way back to a real nest.
She is like a little kid about incidents like this, not thinking through things like a rational adult. In her mind she is 12 and oh how cute a baby bird. She then jumps to a conclusion a 12 year old would, the mother rejected it. She has no idea if that is the case. Then she feels so good because she found a number for animal control on google and she "saved" it. But not really because it could be really in for it if it doesn't go back to his mom. All how a 12 year old would handle this situation. I pity these kids.

This article says deformed beaks are actually turning up quite frequently in the Great Lakes region, which she's close enough to be classified as part of. They believe pollutants are a cause.
It says nothing about the idea that mothers are rejecting the deformed beaked ones in droves. Nothing. Just that it can be harder for them to eat and they could have issues due to that.

You are falling back on a legal argument that is a complete red herring and of course not posting my full comment. Why? Because you know that what I said is true and you can't defend against it
&&&&
No your comments are not published because you insist on using anonymous. Everyone else here follows the rules. Why do you think you're so special and don't also have to pick a name and stick to the name? Anonymous is not published here with rare exception when you sign a name to the post at the end. Why should you be published but not anyone else who decides to go anonymous? That's asking for special treatment and to accommodate someone who is consistently disrespectful to this community and its guidelines, and that's not in keeping with the spirit of this community.
Your comments are also not published because of rule 3 and 4. You can't disagree without slamming someone. Case in point, your personal attack against me in just your last post. I didn't attack you personally or insult your career or whatever all else. I simply pointed out that I disagreed with your opinion and that the "facts" you were presenting were actually just opinions. I was respectful and civil, and you spat right back in my face. Why you think you can say the things you do and get published is beyond me. It's rude and I won't have it on this blog. When you're ready to grow up, stop being so rude and disrespectful to the posters on this blog, myself and my staff who work so hard and spend too much time weeding through inappropriate comments like yours, and post politely like everyone else--then you're welcome here. Until then, nothing is getting published. I won't have it.
Hundreds of people have shown up on reality TV. Only a few are really public figures under any real meaningful standard. One of those few is Kate. Another is Richard Hatch. Jon appeared on a reality show for a handful of episodes a year and a half ago. It doesn't make him an active member of the public eye. He was at one time five years ago, he no longer is today. He has a job in the private sector and has asked that people move on. Common decency would respect that. Milo does not, so I can only conclude she doesn't have decency.
Some people named John Bluher, Kelsey Nykole, and Liz Janetta also appeared on the show Jon was on, but no court in the land would ever classify them as public figures under the meaning of the law. It takes more than showing your mug on TV for a couple episodes a year and a half ago to get that lovely status.
I doubt any of the Survivors, Amazing Race people or Big Brother people could be called public figures either.
You generally have to have a lasting presence and be "active" in the public eye for the courts to say that you are a public figure. There are some exceptions to that like a one time incident you were a part of that was so huge, you're probably a public figure (think Monica Lewinsky, who's a public figure, or was). It just doesn't work to prance around on reality TV in 2009 then try to claim that status. And I'm not interested in hyper analyzing those private folks. I believe they are private figures, and I believe it is my duty as a responsible person to respect that privacy as I would respect all private people's right to privacy (something the sheeple also don't respect). I believe they have a right to move on, and if they request they be allowed to do so, I believe that should be respected. Kate has made it clear she has not moved on and doesn't intend to anytime soon. Thus, the criticism will continue and is both legally and morally justified. I have said over and over the second Kate decides she would like to move on and asks people to please move on, I will.
That's all my opinion of course. You can disagree, it's supposed to be fun to debate these things. I don't get the sense you enjoy it though. It seems to upset you mostly. Maybe you should move on too.
I don't see what the level of celebrity has to do with the comment about a double standard. I agree with that statement, but I think it applies to a very few of our posters. There are 2 or 3 posters that seemingly jump out of the woodwork whenever there is a negative Jon comment, and often levy personal attacks on the commenter.
I think if there are comments about the period of time that both of them were feeding from TLC's trough and basking in the limelight, then they are both fair game. Jon doesn't get to put that genie back in the bottle--he was part of the decision to put his kids on TV, and, he did what he did, and he did it very publicly. Let's not forget that while the separation and divorce were in progress, he made very public appearances and gave many national interviews. This was the period of time that the OP was referencing--it was very public behavior. Why should this be off limits? It isn't particularly interesting, and I don't know why anyone would want to talk about that period any more, but then I don't understand why anyone wants to keep rehashing TFW's old behavior, either. But, I agree that when it comes to this specific period of time, there is a double standard.
Currently, with the exception of his professional social media, Jon has become a private citizen. Therefore, I agree with Admin, that his privacy should be respected as long as he keeps a low profile in his personal life. Conversely, as long as TFW continues to exploit her children, she deserves any and all comments. It is pretty simple, IMO. If she would just go away, I am sure that they would, for the most part, stop.

It's funny, but to me that would seem normal. A mom, at her wits end, stating she'll need to go to a mental institution. Whether joking or serious, she makes it obvious that she's the one with the problem. It may have been caused by the kids, but she's the one that will need help. That would seem like a way to gain control.
My narc mother? There was nothing wrong with her that reform school for us kids wouldn't fix. We would be the ones sent away and subjected to all kinds of abuse. Why do I get the feeling that sKate does exactly the same thing? Because I've been there. That's real control. The only time she used physical or mental deficiencies in herself was to refill her narc supply.

Aww, what a little, tiny baby!
Yes, you do leave birds alone or try to just put them back. Birds have no problems with "human scent" and will NOT reject babies if you touch them, and birds don't "kick out" or reject babies.
Natural selection takes care of that, and birds who don't get their parents attention don't get fed and eventually die.
I'm surprised the baby Kate found made it to fledge. There's really nothing to do for the bird. It's not like any rescue is going to hand feed the bird for life, or do reconstructive surgery to repair the beak.
I do get going through the motions of rescuing it for the kids' sakes. I would have wanted to try that as a kid, before I understood how things really work in nature.

It's a nice thought to "save" the bird, but whatever chances it had were not improved by removing it from the property.
Probably reduced the chances to nearly zero, actually.
Bird parents will monitor and continue to feed birds that fall out, or fledge for a few days.
They will encourage to baby to move to an area where it's hidden, like brush and ornamental grasses. After a couple days, the baby can usually use it's wings to fly, and will join other juveniles for awhile to help its chances of survival.
I've seen juveniles continue to hang around Mom and Dad to get fed for a time, even after they can fly.
What you watch for is a smaller bird, usually with some downy feathers still, and even "bird lips", chirp and ruffle its feathers to get attention from the bigger (maturely marked) bird, and get food put in its mouth.
I'd say Kate "rescued" the baby bird for the kids' sake, but I truly believe in her childish mind, she believed that the Mommy kicked the bird out.
Again, it that bird with that beak deformity made it to the point of fledging, it had a decent chance where it was.
A more mature adult would educate their children about how birds are born and raised, and explained that they can place the bird in a safer spot, and let the parents continue to do their job.
If the bird died, it's nature and nature is very harsh.
Kate's the kind that would feed wild animals even though it would kill them.

I agree Tucker.
We've called animal control for various things and often the answer is, just let them be. Okay fine, just checking. Animal control is not there to interrupt nature. IF an animal has rejected a baby, often there are other babies to tend to. If humans try to insist they take back that baby, you might actually be putting the food supply of the others in jeopardy and all of them could die. Most of the time, nature will run its course. Leave the bird alone or put it back in the nest, and if it still ends up on its own, then you've got your answer. Now, if a HUMAN has caused an animal to be in jeopardy, then I think we should intervene, because that's not natural.
It's just a dicey example to set for kids. If you see an animal out on its own, it might not REALLY be on its own. Mom might be around the corner. Leave them be. But because you the stupid human, nature's deadliest predator, decided to waltz over there, mom's hiding and the stupid human thinks the baby is on its own when it's not.
I read he has $300,000 coming to him now that he's 18. That is really not that much if he plans on just living on that and funding his weed habit, and doesn't have any other career ambitions. It may last him a few years depending on how he blows it, and I have a feeling he will blow through it.

Considering he's done over 10 years of work throughout his childhood, that's chump change.
It's ridiculous that's all he has coming to him, if that number is accurate.
That's not a trust fund that will last him a lifetime for giving up his childhood for the show. It's a college fund with room for a nice apartment and eating out. Then it'll be gone.

If she has, she should tell people all about it on her next special. She blabbed about Collin's challenges so it's only fair that she should let everyone in on her work ups by the specialists.
I don't see what the level of celebrity has to do with the comment about a double standard.
&&&&
It has a lot to do with it, because one's level of celebrity is important in terms of whether one's private job should be criticized. If Jon were still on TV every week, still showing up in the tabloids all the time, and still releasing public statements every other day, then I think it's fair game to criticize his private job, poke fun, and whatever all else Milo did.
If your job is a public job and you are a celebrity, the law welcomes and even encourages public discussion and criticism. But if you're just a private person working a private job, you should be left alone.
"Currently, with the exception of his professional social media, Jon has become a private citizen. 100% agree. I also agree that comments about things that happened when Jon WAS in the public eye are and probably always will be fair game. But attacking him now that he is much more private is not.
I must have missed when she decided to "transition" Shoka to an indoor dog. WTH?
Kate, no transition needed. Just bring the darn dog inside. Done.
And if she is now transitioning him to sleep inside, is she then admitting that there was something wrong about him being banished outside? I thought it was all fine and dandy he was outside.
LOL, Look what RedCreek Wildlife Center has posted on their OWN WEB SITE:
FLEDGLING BIRDS LEARNING TO FLY, SHOULD BE LEFT ALONE
People often find fledgling birds temporarily stranded in a yard or on a porch and think they need help. Unable to fly, they become prey to pet dogs and cats.
This is a very important transition time for these birds and should not be interrupted. Birds brought into rehab during this time have a poor chance of survival. They are old enough to know that people are not their parents and resist being hand fed, yet they haven’t learned to feed themselves. Force feeding places them under additional stress.
If uninjured, stranded fledglings can be moved to a safer location nearby. Moving it to a nearby tree limb or herding it to a safer area may be all the “rescuing” it needs.
http://redcreekwildlifecenter.com/?cat=1
Kate, you're a freaking idiot. What happened when they got to the wildlife center? Hopefully they told them to put that bird back where they found it and never do this again, per their own CLEAR directions on their web site. And next time, READ their web site before you whisk a bird over there. Doofus.
Formerly Duped: Maybe Kates TV is the only one that has cable. After, Kate found out that Madie had sneaked downstairs and watch Kendra on TV, perhaps Kate pull the plug on that. The only TV they can watch is in her room.

I think it was 5 years ago, they were quitting reality TV, that lasted 5-6 months, and they were back on the air. Amy, always would bring up the fact that they, could not afford things. But, Matt ignored her. TLC picked them up and a nice check went into the bank. Yes, they should be millionaires, by now, but Matt must be spending it as fast as it comes in. hairy animal to sleep on her bed? An animal she voluntarily
gave away a few years ago? Something is up.
"Shokie," "birdie" -- good grief, woman, you're 40. Use
grownup words.
I'm very sorry about that, getoftweeter. It's probably of little comfort but whoever is doing that probably has serious issues of their own. It's childish and not funny. I feel sorry for them.
I like how the Wildlife Center has their directive to leave birds alone in ALL CAPS too. You know in case doofi like Kate don't notice.
Admin, 91
It seems that there are one or two who go through each post for the purpose of finding something to pick apart. It's s&&t stirring, just to provoke arguments, cause dissension here, attack...all in a tone of mean-spiritedness and condescension. I really don't think there's any intention on their part to present another side of the issue, or to have an intelligent discussion or logical debate. It's just to stir the pot, and mostly to attack admin. I wouldn't put up with it, either. It's immature, rude, and gets very old after awhile. They seem like very angry people and who needs that?.
Gladys acts like she already knew Shoka is transitioning inside. Otherwise wouldn't the busybody say oh, Shoka is coming inside? Why? When? What promoted this! Shoka was very happy and loved outside but I'm sure he will be loved inside too!
I wonder if Gladys messaged her and convinced her to do this for the PR. What a great personal assistant and trusted adviser she is!
The kids have TVs in their bedrooms I thought. You think their TVs are in their rooms only to watch videos? Maybe but I believe the TV in the basement and TV in the big family room are hooked up to cable or satellite because she has pictured them watching live TV (you know, all lined up or munching on Super Bowl food.
It's just weird kids that age piling into mom's bedroom to watch TV, that's why I think it's staged or she's lying. And it's ALWAYS the girls.
Off topic. The little people big world kids say they NEVER watch old episodes of themselves. Jeremy said when he finally was dating Audrey she asked and he showed her the first season and that was about it. They also said they don't think they'll watch them in the future much--they said maybe to show the grandkids.
The problem is kids this age just aren't interested. Kate thinks she's making this whole special library of footage for them and yet kids won't watch or be interested. If they are watching now most likely it's because they feel obligated to her to do so. Kids live in the moment and aren't likely to be nostalgic or interested in the past.

Woooooooooooooow, Kate should stfu before she starts to admit the full shittiness of that dog's life.
Here's the thing- she's had that dog from his momma's teat! This is not a stray or rescue that you have NO IDEA how badly it was treated if it is so uncomfortable around you, that it can not relax.
This is so very telling. It confirms that Shoka has been an outside dog and has never really lived with this people.
So, so sad.
I hope that when Kate powers down from her manic phase (again), she allows him to stay.
I have a feeling she'll start flipping out at Shoka's mess, hair and being underfoot, which is to say, what we all know is NORMAL when your beloved dog lives with you by your side as a member of the family.
The dog may be afraid to come inside because when he came inside before he was punished. How confusing for the dog.
If uninjured, stranded fledglings can be moved to a safer location nearby. Moving it to a nearby tree limb or herding it to a safer area may be all the “rescuing” it needs.
*******
Yup. It's at best futile and at worst, cruel to remove the fledged bird from where it has any chance of being taken care of by its parents until it can be independent.
It's best to explain this to kids and let them process the pain and fear when they see this.
Twittersodes, I swear.
I assumed the bird was injured. They took an uninjured bird to a rescue? Why?

But, but...Kate's a nurse, and I'm sure she triaged that little birdie, just like the boy with the broken ankle when they were filming!
She's a medical professional, you know.
Tucker's Mom (#138), but of course the problem is, TFW doesn't
assess her children's needs and different levels of understanding.
We joke about her being 12 emotionally. Well, she now has
2 children who are approaching 15. It is likely that they are
better equipped to process some things than she is.
This woman wanted babies, and now she's stuck with children.
And in 2 years, she'll be saddled with 8 teenagers. She is in
no way prepared for that.
I assumed the bird was injured. They took an uninjured bird to a rescue? Why?

Oh this is good. Kate said that the beak was deformed and the mother rejected it. How she came to this bizarre and unlikely conclusion only her head knows.
She never considered that maybe the parents intentionally pushed him out of the nest because it's time to fly. I guess she never knew where the expression leaving the nest came from. (Hint, from birds.) I'd love to be a fly on the wall when this rescue saw what she did. The idiocy.
A thought on the Roloff kid getting $300K now. Maybe it's set up where at 18 he gets XXX, at 21 or completion of college he get $$ or the balance, or at 25 he gets the balance. That would seem better than to hand an 18 year old such a sum of money that they would waste every dime of it. Not saying that the 300K isn't a ton of money, better he learn life lessons w/ that amount than more.
Oh this is good. Kate said that the beak was deformed and the mother rejected it. How she came to this bizarre and unlikely conclusion only her head knows.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sort of like Kate implied Aaden's glasses made him 'imperfect" Are the twins now to be rejected for wearing specs?
If Jacob got $300,000 for his filming which is not nearly as much as the G8, imagine that they will be lucky to get $50,000 each for a lifetime of filming.
I bet Jacob runs through that money within a year, two at most.
What does Zach do for work? His wife is a teacher and on the proposal episode she asked what he was going to do for a job and he said sell insurance, door to door. He thought it was funny, she not so much. It seems the only one with direction and a goal is Molly. Maybe Jeremy will do well with his photography.
I do not understand the concept of a dog transitioning inside. For every dog I've ever known, the only transition required to get from outside to inside was an open door.
So we heard before years ago about how much Shoka loved the outdoors and he did not want to come in, and now she is gradually allowing him on her bed every night? Did pigs fly? Something is going on.
For what it's worth, TLC Stinks, my two theories about that sudden change of heart:
1.) Dwindling rates of her latest specials gave her shingles inducing stress and she obtained a very much needed new prescription of industrial strength happy pills.
2.) Or, du to said elevated shingles inducing stress level, one of her multiple personalities is getting stronger and manifesting itself more often.
3.) Something happened lately at the compound that made her afraid of sleeping alone.
Therefore, I agree with Admin, that his privacy should be respected as long as he keeps a low profile in his personal life. Conversely, as long as TFW continues to exploit her children, she deserves any and all comments. It is pretty simple, IMO. If she would just go away, I am sure that they would, for the most part, stop."
I couldn't agree more. It would only be a double standard if Jon were still throwing his kids and his parenting in our faces. He is not. He is living his mediocre little life quietly and keeps his kids' business private.
Kate is still try to sell her SuperMom image to the unwashed masses by "making memories" and pointing cameras in her children's faces to to film and sell their reactions.
On the surface it is shameless famewhoring and deep down it is an incredibly cruel injustice to her children. They will never get a do over on their childhoods.
No matter how you slice it, IMO, Kate deserves the criticism and Jon no longer does.
OT- just watch a very interesting press conference with Pres. Obama (about the nuke deal with Iran) and Bill Cosby's Medal of Freedom was brought up (can/will it be revoked).
There's no precedent for revoking Cosby's medal, but Obama said in no uncertain terms that when you give someone drugs unknowingly to knock them out and have sex with them, it's rape.
The POTUS just pretty much let it be known where he stands on the issue.
With a wife and 2 daughters, I would expect so.
It's time for Bill Cosby to face the music.
I'm also seriously conflicted about Cosby's art exhibit at the Smithsonian. The exhibit was opening right as the scandal was breaking loose, and the Smithsonian stood by the exhibit, for the sake of the art, blah, blah, blah.
But now, after the release of Cosby's testimony, I find it hard to not demand a refund on my membership, which means to much to me and from which DH and I get to benefit from in so many ways.
I think that despite the enormous amount of resources that went into the exhibit, it either needs to be completely rid of anything personal to Cosby, his family and his story, or it needs to be shut down completely.
Anyways, carry on!
Yep. And the same logic goes for the Duggars. If they were more like Jon, lived quietly, made a few statements here and there and didn't try to impose their own morality on the public, I'd probably be outraged that what happened to the girls was exposed.
But they chose, like Kate, to "sell" us their lifestyle. Therefore when something about their lifestyle doesn't add up, we have every right to criticize. The intent behind the free criticism of public people in this country is to provide that "check" on them. Because they are the ones so often setting the agenda, telling others how to live, or selling others on how to live. This public criticism "check" makes sure that we, the quieter private public, don't get swindled by the agenda makers. And so we carry on. If you're not setting any agendas, like Jon, then you have every right to live a quiet life without being blasted all the time.
You know, every time I hear of sKate acting weird, whether it's about animals or something else that goes against her character, I'm reminded of the H incident and I'm attributing it to her being told to get her act together by the courts or by H. I believe H is calling the shots in that house since her little rebellion. Perhaps the "cruelty" that H referred to had something to do with Shoka?
Something big has happened.
Admin: Thanks.
White Organza: Yeah, and this concern for the dog, and animals. and not a germaphobic. Her happy,almost giddy, actions.
I've noticed over the years, that when Kate got money in the bank, or was on a talk show, or her cookbook came out, or she grifted something ,she is giddy, happy, is everyone's best friend and animal lover.
When no money is in, no TV appearances, or EX trouble, and she grifts for things and geez, an appliance breaks down. Did little Katie have a hissy fit and broke the appliance? And she get mad at someone online.
She is predictable.
Or, TLC is going to take her for filming to a big end of summer vacation. England/Europe? Canada? Or Disney/Fla? She is a little tooooo happy/giddy!
Ha, she wasn't prepared for 6 babies either.
Actually, she was more than prepared to conceive and have the babies, but everything after that has just been a sh*t show
She's shown that bird (and Zorro) more love and compassion than to her own kids.
I think TLC is planning a show about her new love of animals, featuring the dog, bird, chickens and other assorted creatures. Maybe one of the kids is volunteering in an animal rescue center or they could film the boys at the neighbor farmers. Something definitely is in the works.
If the dog is going to be inside most of the time, what does this mean for Zorro? I thought the bird was out of the cage quite a bit. How will they monitor that? They better be careful, or Zorro will be breakfast for Shoka.
Shoka probably is so confused because he was never allowed in Kate's "sanctuary" before and he's thinking "WTF is going on?" Of course, he needs "transitioning". He's being allowed to do something that for 6+years was not part of his routine.
He's probably so confused now about what is acceptable behavior for him. In a way, he's just like the kids--not knowing how to react to "Mommy's" rules that keep changing.
I've noticed over the years, that when Kate got money in the bank, or was on a talk show, or her cookbook came out, or she grifted something ,she is giddy, happy, is everyone's best friend and animal lover.
Very good observation, Getofftwitter.... And now that you made me think of it, she also goes into full Mother Teresa mode when shit is just about to hit the fan. A typical diversion tactic of hers. I wonder what was going on in her life when she destroy her butt ugly Kentucky hat to make a nest with the feathers for another bird the kids had just found. The Coupon Cabin firing, maybe? Can't remember...
Kate mentioned on a recent special how she is such an animal lover. I think, merryway, you might be right. Maybe a Dr Kate Doolittle type of special? TFW told her tweeties about the surprise she has planned, a 'show.'
When my daughter was three she found a baby bird in our backyard. She brought it into the house and then told me about it. She wanted to keep it but I asked her to show me exactly where she found it. When we went into the backyard there was a mature bird perched on the hydro wire above the spot where she said she found it. The poor bird was making a noise like I had never heard before and flapping its wings like mad. I told my daughter that that was the mother bird and she was very upset because she wanted her baby back. I also told her I knew how the mother bird felt because if my child was missing I would be frantic too and would not rest until she was found; I would never let anyone take her from me. She took this all in and together we went into the house to get the baby bird and placed it in the flower bed directly under the wire where the mother bird was perched. We went back in the house and watched from the window as the mother bird rescued her 'baby' and within a few minutes both flew away. I told her she had made two mothers very happy that day.
Only in Kate's feverish mind is this even a remote possibility. And it simply would not work. Imagine trying to film Kate and the younger six children handling animals. We already saw several of them running around clutching that poor bird. I find it extremely unlikely that was the first time the children "played" with the bird like that -- because they were not hesitant at all. I feel sorry for both Shoka and Zorro in that insane asylum of a home. Hopefully they don't try to play with the chickens, but just make sure they have plenty of water and feed, and clean out their coop from time to time.
If TLC is even thinking of filming such a show, the initial footage would end up next to the dusty film of Twist of Kate.
Her Twitter comments always catch up to her lies. Transitioning Shoka to want to sleep in her bedroom???? That certainly implies he was never allowed in there previously.
Is she so deperate now for a new show idea that she must train Shoka to come in her bedroom? Sounds like it. She must prove she is a Mrs. Doolittle with her love of animals while raising EIGHT kids ALL ALONE. Why the heck would she broadcast on Twitter that Shoka, who is supposedly set in his ways, needs to be transitioned to sleep on her bed? She is dumb. I mean totally clueless. That dog, after six years, clearly knows his boundaries and is probably confused with this new found sugar from Kate, the hitter and screamer.
For whatever the reason, it is clear she's on the animal lover kick, either for a show idea, new book idea, or she has been in trouble with Shoka's treatment. She never, ever does this kind of thing on Twitter unless there is some purpose. For the Master Manipulator, Twitter is her means to an end. Always.
If she's on happy pills, then good for Shoka, good for the kids, because someone up thread mentioned Jon wanted her to undergo a psych evaluation. Perhaps that did happen, she's on medication, and must toe the line or risk a custody change. We are speculating, of course ( that's a nod to the steeple who read here) but this may all tie in also to the new laid back Kate. Happy pills do that to you.
Millicent: If you read further down on my post, I said, I was fine with him not believing in God, that is his choice. The second article I read made a thing about him not believing and the Roloff fans are up in arms about it. His nastiness is how he answered the interviewer. He could have answered without coming off as nasty. Jacob does not have the social skills to do interviews and deal with the outside world. Yes, Jacob is an angry kid. As one of the commentors said, Jacob is ignored by his parents.
***
GetoffTweeter:
I'm sorry I misinterpreted your comment and thank you for putting me straight. Yes, Jacob has been the forgotten child from the very start. His mother is more interested in babying Zach; his father is too busy wishing he was born like Jeremy, the golden boy. Molly is the typical middle child who just makes her own way. There was an employee/friend who used to take Jacob under his wing, and that man unexpectedly died from a heart attack I think. After that, Jacob really was left to his own devices. I too hope that he does not end up dead from an overdose of drugs. I think if he could only get away from his parents, from fans of the show who want to criticize him, and get some intensive counseling, he has a fighting chance. I don't blame him for being bitter at the situation and at his parents -- neither parent was truly there for him at any point in his young life. Shame on them both.
If the dog is being let inside, in the summer no less, there's a reason. Either TLC already filmed the back story or they will.
"My house is going to be like one big atomic bomb this afternoon. I already know. You know the post sleepover dread of all parents. We all discuss it, we all apologize in advance. We all try to get the kids to go to sleep. They never do. We always warn that if they come home grouchy, they're never going to another sleepover. We always send them the next time. What's wrong with us. Isn't that the cycle? That's the way it always goes. Oh, yeah."
Um, no, TFW. We don't all focus on the negative and ignore all of the positive things that happen
&&&
This is a very old comment but I have to chime in and say I agree!
And I think it's cruel to threaten to take away a sleepover just because a child is grouchy the next day. Who cares? They're just tired, they had FUN, leave them alone let them get over their grouchiness, it'll pass.
I remember falling asleep at sleepovers. Yes it was probably at 12 or 1, but we couldn't stay up all night if we tried, it's hard to stay awake when you're young. We'd sleep in, have a late breakfast and off we go back to our houses. We got enough sleep.
It's obvious from recent tweets that Kate and the kids are filming again. Given the steady decline in ratings, I would be willing to bet that the next special is going to drop below 1 million viewers. I'm kind of looking forward to that. TLC is going to film whatever they want, regardless of what viewers think, but they can't make us watch, can they? I saw ratings from last night, and Little People, Bg World (9pm) got 1.428 million viewers. The new show called My Giant Life (at 10pm, the same time slot/day of the week that K+8 usually airs) got 1.682 million. It's obvious that people are up and watching TV at that time--they just don't want to watch K+8. And there's nothing Kate or TLC can do to change that. We're in charge (of our remotes), and that's never gonna change!
We'll see how long this "indoor dog" stuff continues when
A sad, pathetic, lonely little person who is desperately and passionately in love with a has-been celebrity. Her life totally revolves around Kate and in Milo's fantasy world, Kate really does care (she gave her a shout-out on national television), and therefore Milo truly believes that she is part of Kate's inner circle, and Kate's friends are also her friends.
And yet, she won't meet Kate. She just won't. She got belligerent and a bit testy when the non-fans were tweeting TLC suggesting a meeting be filmed when Kate's biggest fan finally met her idol. In fact, she appeared to be nervous and apprehensive that something like that would happen, that maybe TLC would arrange for Kate to show up as a surprise, and then film it. There is just something very off with that entire situation.
I really believe that there is no hubs, no 16-year-old daughter, no son who still plays with trucks in their back yard. Whether it's a man or a woman, I'm still hanging on the fence about that one.
Nicole Wallace needs to get back to politics and people who are academically minded like her.
The other panel members aren't anywhere near as intelligent as Nicole, and I hope she realizes how much of her talents she was wasting sitting at that table of utter stupidity.
I can't believe The View is still garnering enough viewers to keep a slot on daytime talk. I feel it must be just coasting along by standing on the shoulders of the true giants that made that show once great.
I can't watch anymore. Not even background noise. I mean, my blood pressure goes up every time I hear Whoopie defend yet another woman-hitting, animal-abusing, foul-mouthed, drug-addled, women-rapist excuse for a man.
Here's what I don't understand. The non-fans seem to know the identity of quite a few sheeple, their names, locations, jobs, marital status, etc., but why is it that none of them calls Milo by her "real" name, or knows if this is a catfish, male or female, living in a facility, or whatever. How is it that Gladys has not yet been outed as either Kate herself, Steve, a paid assistant? There has been speculation, but never any proof. @Kateplusmy8: You know you’re an @amazon addict when you find this note from your kids on your bedroom door.... #AppearedLastNight http://twitter.com/Kateplusmy8/status/621362402236497920/photo/1
It kind of looks to me like Kate wrote this herself. As adults we're usually the ones that mix caps and lower case letters in one word. Looks like an adult trying to look like a kid writing.
Thanks to those of you who recommended "A Place to Call Home." Absolutely love it.
You know you're not a piecing-and-patching single mom
if you're an Amazon addict.
She's on the second night of tweeting mania about the dog. Something is up. Something happened. Milo is peeing herself over Kate's manic tweeting and is still as nosy as ever. Good grief. Get a grip! I have never seen anything like this. It's not normal, and Kate really needs not to throw too many bones here. Milo really scares me. There is something more than just a little bit off with that person. It really takes balls to ask a stranger where she has been and what she has bought.
So @Kateplusmy8 Where have you been? #Shopping ? #AmazonPrime ? What kind of items were you looking 4bargains on? #FrugalKate :)
@Kateplusmy8: Top on Shoka’s tomorrow TO DO list: ‘chew legs off new chicken’
@Kateplusmy8: @MiloandJack NO! If he brings it inside he can’t settle and thinks it’s ‘chase chicken all through the house’ time w his boisterous body!😁
@Kateplusmy8: @CindyVonUngerer u try 2keep a guard dog by nature behind closed doors w SO much2 sniff&chase outside!😉He does what HE wants! &he’s in&out!
She absolutely is trying to reinvent herself as the perfect pet mom. I'll bet you there is a pet episode coming up. I can't imagine a child's book about Shoka unless she self publishes because what publisher would touch her after the cook book fiasco There is just too much Shoka love going on lately and as others have said, that means that she's up to something.
The difference between Kate and Jon is more than the public figure thing. She tries to set herself up as the perfect mom. We are supposed to take her advice on how to be a mom, how to clean a home, how to travel, which celebrities to love, etc. The judge actually said that made a difference in the Bill Cosby records release. His pontificating about how black people should behave made him more of a public figure and it mattered how his private and public lives weren't consistent. With her tv show giving her views, her Twitter, and her random blogging, Kate is a public figure. As far as I know, Jon does not give parenting or political views or whatever while DJ-ing.
Something has to be up with Kate the Animal Lover. You don't switch over like that from dog hater to dog lover. I don't even believe she is telling the truth but her lies have a purpose. The bird story has me rolling my eyes. Unless the bird is dead, leave it alone. How did she even get close enough to decide the beak was deformed? We should not be messing with wild animals. Some animals live and some die. If a bird cannot eat then it dies.
Does anyone remember the episode of Everybody Loves Raymond where they go to Amy's parents for Thanksgiving? A bird flies into the window. They bring it in because it's hurt. Amy's mom takes the bird to the kitchen and puts it out of its misery. The others were upset but she knew she did the right thing. Played for laughs of course.
Riveting. Children play with their dog. Dog plays with toys.
The sheep bar is so low that Kate giving her dog a little attention is like major Twitter news!
Tell us more! You're so interesting!
The title of her book could be "The Dog With the Boisterous Body."
