TLC cancels '19 Kids and Counting'

After more than a month in limbo, the network decides to officially axe the popular show and says it's committed to educating the public about sexual abuse.

"We spent the past month and a half in thoughtful consideration about what is the best way forward here. It's no secret that '19 Kids and Counting' was a really, really hit show. But we have some other great shows, both on the air and in the pipeline.
"  Marjorie Kaplan, group president of TLC, Animal Planet and Velocity networks.

Marinate some chicken or salmon in Thai sweet chili sauce and cook. While cooking mix a bag of the Asian chopped salad and set aside. Once done serve with protein on top. Simple and cheaper than $10 per person.

I think this ends Kate's 'reign' as chef extraordinaire.Nothing wrong with time savers for those who need it and can afford it. I'm sure it's just a commercial plug or a grift. (like Bella Bars) Kate made such a big deal about her kids loving Mommy Meals, her organization of months' worth of frozen homemade foods for when she was 'away for work' and brags abut her cookbook. She showed her 'rare' emergency meal of organic chicken nuggets iirc and salad, I think? A lot about Kate has been centered around food, organic eating, weight, coupons, her freezers, her kitchen. This makes her seem more mediocre even though a good frozen entree ready to go is a lifesaver for those people who actually are too busy to cook.

Tucker's Mom said...

At her age, she should have at least a week's worth of healthy, easy, go-to recipes memorized that she can make over and over, including a nice salmon and vegetable dish everyone likes. Cooking is a pain when you first get started but by 40 this sort of thing should no longer be a hardship, it should run like clockwork, sparing the need for something like Blue Ribbon.
*******
Looking at the boxes, I have these ingredients on hand. I think the key is a well-stocked pantry and with Kate's 5 freezers, making healthy meals shouldn't need to involve a concierge food service.
Not that Blue Apron knows this, and they might be fooled into thinking Kate would be an appropriate spokesperson.
Her track record is abysmal, however.
P&G, Coupon Cabin, HealthTex, Ab Champ.
I think KMart got their money out of Kate because when she went on her show and other shows lying about not being able to afford Christmas gifts for 8 kids, so she availed herself of KMart's layaway, I think people really believed her.
Little did they know...
The thing is, the heyday of J+K+8 is long, long gone.

The jig's up.

Hey, Kate -- you like freebies! Appleebee's is offering a free appetizer sampler tomorrow. Just passing that along...

You'd think that TFW would know by now that if she wants to grift from a company she'd better be following them on twitter. I checked this morning and she's not following @blueapron.

========
I think that this is a stock answer. TFW indicated that this was the first time she'd tried @blueapron so they're assuming she bought a plan which is why they said something about the next two meals. They may not even know who she is because they didn't acknowledge the fact that she has 8 (count 'em) kids nor did they say anything about being able to accommodate her request for larger meal plans.

Maybe she will divide the next two meals up into 8 portions and have a K8 salad at the counter while the children are 'fed'

Yes. You're talking about the sheeple, correct? I totally agree. Those who have taken Boscov's to task, pick and choose the people they want to target (youngsters and the elderly) do so on Twitter because that's where they get the reaction and attention they think they deserve.

---------------------

Yes, I was commenting about the sheeple, not the "haters." Someone asked why many here say that the non-fans who tweet should just ignore some of these sheeple who stir things up, and why shouldn't we on the blog do the same. It was a good question. My response was that they live for getting reactions out of those non-fans on Twitter because when they're on Twitter, they get immediate responses, become "known" on Twitter, getting the attention they need to keep them going. On this blog, not so much.

I agree that ignoring them on Twitter many times is not easy because there are often times (such as in the Boscov's controversy) when it's difficult to just let the fans do their thing and project their nastiness when there may be innocent people involved.

I'm glad I've never had a Twitter account. It would be tough to sit on my fingers and not say anything!

@blueapron pays to have Howard Stern do live commercials for their product and you know that's not cheap! If they're paying that price that's the demograph they're after and not the stay-at-homes that are TFW's demographic. They (BA) probably assume that the stay-at-homes have time to cook their own meals.

TLC stinks said...

Yes, Tucker's Mom. Deanna is the BFF du jour. Jodi (babysat), Beth (babysat), Ashley (babysat) and Jamie (babysat). They were the "hired" help that Kate diced and sliced. And now there is Deanna who foolishly thinks that Kate is her buddy because Kate has "allowed" her to appear onscreen. Is she being paid? That would be an interesting answer because we know for sure Jodi was not paid, Beth got hustled out of her fair share of the book proceeds by Kate and Jon Zand I seriously doubt she ever saw a dime from TLC, but Ashley and Jamie were referred to by Kate on the motor home trip as "paid help" so I assume they got something from TLC. But newest BFF Deanna...what's her status besides that makeup artist credit at the end of the show? I bet Kate is the first "celebrity" to ever form a relationship with her. And why? Because Kate wants something from her. And maybe Deanna wants something from Kate, like name recognition. Whatever. Everyone else appears to have moved on from Kate. And that's a good thing.

TLC stinks said...

I kind of feel bad for her because Jon's track record really sucks with dating. And the kids must be confused too with the girlfriends. At least Kate has been consistent with Uncle Steve, LOL. It's not a bad idea if you have the desire and the money to do so.

Bingo. Context matters.

It also makes a difference to me whether someone is just being casual and quick versus someone truly thinks that too is two or to.

For example, I might sometimes write a typo for to as "too." But generally I get it right, and I know and can explain the difference. That's just a typo, being careless or casual because it's just a forum. But if I see a sheeple consistently and repeatedly make that mistake, never failing to make it, along with a host of other mistakes and confusion, I think it's fair to assume they're probably not the sharpest tool in the shed. That's how I look at it.

Speaking of Ruby Tuesday's, I got such a great deal last year for my birthday and I will let ya'll in on the secret so you can enjoy it too!

Go to RT's website and sign up for their newsletter and you will get a coupon for a free burger up to 9.00. I had mine printed out and asked a young woman who is the secretary here, I adore her she is so sweet, if she would mine going to RT's and pick my order up. I asked her if she would make me a salad. Well, when I ordered it over the phone, I didn't realize that fries came with the burger. I always get onion rings. So I wanted the burger, the salad bar and onion rings.

She said, fries come with the burger, and I said, oh, I didn't know that. I knew the OR cost 2.49 so I was willing to pay it. She said, that's ok, I can sub the fries for the OR's. So I knew I was already in for 2.49, 8.99 for the salad bar and 0 for the burger. I gave her 15.00 to make sure she would have enough money.

When she got back, WOW! Burger's huge, OR's huge, a plastic box with a flip lid crammed full of salad and veggies that was the size and weight of a 5 lb. bag of sugar! The total amount: Drum Roll, Please!

$3.26!!! Free $9 burger, no charge for the OR's, 2.99 for the salad bar 9% tax because the burger is considered an entrée! It took me 2 days to eat this very good food! I enjoyed it so much.

They also send out $5 off $15 and buy 2 entrees get one 50% off. And their gift cards at the holidays are a very good buy too.

IMO, grammar policing on the internet blogs or even in person comes across as being a highfalutin hoity toity who just wants to feel bigger than they really are. That is not meant to be a "personal" judgement or attack on anyone here. I'm not out to hurt anyone. I don't think people understand how hurtful it can be to have someone's personal conversations corrected, because that is exactly what comments are on a blog. Would you constantly correct a person's conversation you were having face to face. More than likely, no. First of all, there would be no way to correct the spelling because you can't see it. lol. Second...you would come across as a hoity toity, I'm smarter than you are type of person and most people really don't want that stereotype for their image. Image is everything now days.

I get BA for someone like Deanna. When Kate endorses it and further, wants them to come in servings for 9 people, it's grifting.
See, this is the shit that Kate pulls. She makes it all about Kate + 8, instead of just enjoying that mediocre meal.
Why Tweet about it? It was overcooked salmon on lettuce.

Kate also has to grasp the reality that including Deanna and @BlueApron in her tweet is going to make it rain shit all over them, because she has haterz hanging out 24/7 on her timeline.

I doubt Deanna has the cajones to tell the Alpha bitch to not do that to her!

Funny how everyone's brain works. Mine notices grammar/spelling mistakes instantaneously. I can't help it. I don't judge it, but I notice it.

For a blog comment, eh, whatever. For a letter to the president of a company where one is complaining about the company's association with TFW, or someone who is criticizing her, I would expect to see impeccable grammar and spelling.

*****************************************************

I'm with you. My parents were sticklers for good grammar and while I certainly don't have their standards, I seem to have inherited the same awareness of some errors.

However as Fido has said, the important thing is to be understood. The purpose of language is to communicate, so as long as the message is communicated then it's all good.

You go on The Bachelorette and sleep with a handful of the guys and you are going to be slut shamed and your character will be impugned.
Not that it's right, but please, don't stare at me with weepy doe eyes and expect me to feel sorry for something you'd have to be insane not to know is coming your way.

That $10 meal could have been made at home for less than $5 and you would have been guaranteed that the ingredients were fresh and of good quality. Absolutely no fiscal sense in some people. Why does she care? And she and Kate tweeted their meal out there, it's unfair to expect people not to comment.

The salmon was dry and overcooked, the plating terrible, and the salad kind of sad--and Kate is a public figure selling a cookbook. If people want to point that out, they have every right to. They also have every right to discuss whether a company like this is well priced, worth it, and what their issues and problems are. It's a free country. Don't like it, she need not tweet it out there. Had they just enjoyed the meal without involving social media like a grown up, no one would have been the wiser.

Depending on the error, I might grit my teeth but wouldn't call anyone out personally. I have mentioned those that drive me batty when we've had these conversations in the past.

However, there is one blog I refuse to read because it is so horrendously horrendous and it's written by that master of communication, Dr. Lillian Glass. I gave up reading there a while back because she apparently just lets her fingers fly over the keyboard then hits 'send' and that's it, not one second spent even doing the minimum proofing. I'm happy Bindi at 16 is doing normal things like having a boyfriend. She may suddenly find that she would rather spend time with her boyfriend than go perform in a show, and that's a good thing.

Speaking of Bindi, it's clear from her social media presence she loves and adores her little brother. She constantly posts photos of him and talks about how much she loves him. Although there's a bit more of an age difference than the twins are to the sextuplets, it's really a shame that the twins do not act the same around their own siblings. Somewhere along the way Bindi was taught to appreciate her brother, maybe it was the death of her father that made her realize.

The twins' bitterness is so prevalent it almost warrants it being brought to the attention of a therapist. There are sibling rivalries in that family that go beyond what is normal.

----------------------

I understand what you are saying, but I don't think that he would be corrected because that was his style of writing. It was accepted for what it was.

Here's the thing. I agree blogging is not a thesis, but if kids today get used to sloppy English on the internet, will they carry this through to their writing in high school and college? They think it's acceptable slang when blogging, tweeting, or whatever, but when they *do* go to write a high school or college paper will there be problems in correct usage? I've read some of the tweets from teens and it's difficult to believe that they can do well in school. Their mistakes are glaring. Remember that paper that Paige posted and got an "A"? It was embarrassing. How many times have we seen, "Me and my friend went..." and we just want to cringe? To so many kids, this is acceptable and correct English. They don't seem to know any better.

My pet peeve on the internet are those who say they have degrees and post-graduate degrees, or were teacher for decades, but when they post or tweet, they can't get grammar and punctuation correct. Their main problems seem to be then and than, their, they're and there, lying and laying, to, two and too, your and you're, its and it's, and they have no idea what to do with an apostrophe or how to make a noun plural and plural possessive. If they don't know (or don't care) then how did they teach kids when they were in education if they can't get it correct themselves?

Please don't give me a grammar/content grade on this post! :)

Yes, I think it was stylistic, not an issue of him not understanding what should be capitalized. It was written for children, and if he capitalized something like Honey, I'm willing to bet it was because he wanted to emphasize that Honey was important to the character.

As far as kids these days, it's concerning, but I can only speak for myself that myself and all my attorney friends are well capable of switching back and forth between "text speak" and writing a brief to be submitted to court. Just like many people who know two languages can switch back and forth as the need arises. The human brain is capable of a lot and is able to switch on and off, back and forth. When I was a kid we didn't text and we mostly just chit-chatted on the phone. We hardly got any practice at all writing outside a classroom. Arguably, we have no idea how texting would have gone for my generation because we never tried. Maybe it would have been just as bad, who knows. Also, it can be "uncool" for a kid to use perfect grammar in a text. Abbreviations and casual speak are the norm.

It may be the norm, but you should see what comes across my desk. It's enough to turn one prematurely gray. Many students can't switch from casual internet slang, and the end result is that their papers are submitted looking exactly like text messages. The spelling, grammar and punctuation errors are enough to make you pull out your hair, one strand at a time. One often wonders exactly how these kids ever got to college.

In addition to the rules of grammar, spelling and punctuation, one issue is learning how to paragraph. It's impossible to teach smooth transitioning in papers when there are no paragraphs. I've had three-page papers turned in that contained one lengthy paragraph. It's not a pleasant thing to read. In fact, it's downright frustrating. However, It does keep me on my toes when I try to figure out what belongs where! It's equally frustrating when you try to teach a student that yes, Virginia, there really is such a thing as a paragraph!

Yipe! Do you think it's worse than ever before?

I still wonder how much of it is because of texting and how much because some kids just stink at English.

I remember some classmates who absolutely struggled in English class. They never texted a day in their life.

As for me I hated Math, it was always my worst subject. I don't know if it was anything in my environment that was influencing my inability to do well in that class. I just wasn't good at it and didn't like it.

I was thinking about Milo and her refusal to meet Kate. She said that she's happy with the status quo. Although I do believe that having Kate actually seeing Milo and being disappointed in her may be part of it, I wonder if Milo is reluctant to meet her because she's afraid that she may be disappointed in Kate. If something were to happen, or Kate would ignore Milo, Kate would slip from grace and be knocked off that pedestal. Milo would be devastated. In her mind, it's best to just keep things the way they are where she can idolize Kate from afar. In her fantasy world, Kate remains Saint Kate. She is perfect.

So Kate was filming in a grocery store. I can't contain my excitement. It sounds like not everyone is enamored with Kate. That must be lies, all lies because Gladys is certain that everyone who meets her, especially the locals, just love her.

Couldn't she invest the same few minutes to get just a bit of
background? Nope -- she wanted instant gratification. Her

I had a good dinner tonight -- bought a baked chicken breast at the store ($1.89), threw a potato into the microwave to bake (1 potato @ $.49), made a salad (bagged salad @$1.49 but I had a $.55 off c/o and I'll get 3 salads out of the bag), added some additional veggies to the salad (about $.50) -- Voila, a healthy, substantial meal for less than $4. I bet it looked better than TFMJG's, too.

I was raised by an English professor and have done some professional editing, so I pick up on grammar and spelling errors too. I've learned to overlook them, unless I'm being paid to edit something. Besides, I cringe when I read some of the things I've written ;>). As long as I can get a sense of what someone's saying, I'm cool. ITA about "Dr." Glass. I gave up trying to read her a long time ago. I could never make heads or tails out of what she was trying to say.

Fidos -- I'm with you in the math department. I was definitely not home when they passed out the math gene.

Formerly -- wonderful news about the puppy. That's going to be a pretty big dog when it's full grown. (S)he will keep you on your toes. What fun!

Admin -- Unfortunately, TFMJG has fostered that sibling rivalry from day one. She would deliberately pit the kids against each other by insisting on going in birth order, by ignoring the twins' needs after the birth of the 6, by constantly comparing Mady to Cara, and by making the twins responsible for their siblings at way too young an age. It was obvious on the early shows and virtually everything she's said and written since has just bolstered it. I agree it's not normal, but what can you expect in that toxic household. That's just one of the sins she'll have to answer for.

His new woman sounds like a nice person, though, and it's obvious that they've managed to keep a low profile if they've been together for 9 months and the news is just now getting out. Jon may not know how to be on his own. He was barely 20 when TFMJG sank her claws into him. He was either still living with a parent or had been on his own for a short time. He may be one of these people who feels incomplete without a partner. I don't know that that is a bad thing, if the choice of partner is a good one. At least he doesn't flit from person to person quickly. He's had long-term relationships with the last 3 women he's been with and his new partner is apparently someone he's known for a long time. I just hope she's good to him and to the kids, and good for them.

I think the problem with Blue Apron is that their hook is "fresh". Sometimes "fresh" isn't so fresh when it arrives at its final destination. Especially if that destination is on the other side of the country. It's not like Omaha Steaks which come frozen packed in dry ice. Unless Blue Apron has various locations throughout the U.S. it would probably stick to the tri-state area.

I wonder where the food comes from. Ideally it should be locally sourced, packed away in trucks for no more than a day or so. The quality control issues though would be overwhelming. How do you make sure some strawberries in Oregon are as fresh and ripe as those in Atlanta? I'm fascinated by the business idea and would love to see the numbers. It seems to me the operation costs would be astronomical, and you'd need hundreds of highly skilled employees.

Eight is More Than Enough said...

The big problem I see with Jon's relationship MO is how quickly he finds the his new love and how quickly he becomes seriously involved. I seem to remember him talking about loving a new woman, maybe the one he's with now, after dating her for a fairly short time and not that long after he'd broken if off with his last love. If he were single or his children were older I'd have no problem. Even if he didn't have so many kids. Especially if those kids weren't constantly losing adults they'd come to trust. I hope he keeps his children and his romantic partners separate, but I doubt it. Hard to keep things separate when you're living together. Did that couples reality show help him at all?

From how quickly he gets attached makes me wonder if it was him or Katie pushing for a wedding and kids even though they weren't ready. I think if there'd been no TLC to give Katie a big enough push she and Jon would never have divorced. And I'm not saying they'd have just legally stayed married but otherwise acted divorced hiding it from the public. They would have stayed as married as they were when they sextuplets were about three and before.

I haven't posted in a long time, but I just heard about Collin(I check in on the Gosselins every once in a while) and I had to comment. So here it goes:
I don't think Collin was born with anything. I think it was the abuse at an early age that caused him to have behavioural problems and I think that the "problems" he has now are exagerated by Kate in order to discredit him. I think Kate cut Collin off from Jon because Collin was starting to talk about the abuse(his and his siblings') and she couldn't let that happen. So she cut him off and started to build his "special needs" reputation.Maybe even convinced a medical professional to prescribe Collin some medication(remember that especially when the child is young, a medic will rely on what the parent says a lot in making the diagnosis and writing a prescription). Who is ever going to believe a word that this child could ever decide to tell now that he's been labeled with mental issues? I do believe Collin has behavioural issues but I also think Kate is exagerating and pushing for diagnoses to cover her ass.Because if Collin talked she'd be in jail.
Just my opinion.

I do wish Jon would be slower to declare whoever as the great love of his life. It's gotta be hard on the kids to have a new intense love interest every 2-3 years.

Long term dating would be one thing (a break up still being hard on everyone)...but there isn't as much of an expectation of permanency.

Moving in after dating someone a month doesn't seem like a smart thing to do. You'd think he would have learned something there after the first 2-3 times.

It concerns me that he doesn't seem to have learned that the mo of falling in love in a week and moving in together shortly thereafter doesn't seem to be working, and that it's incredibly tough on his kids.

Maybe he doesn't want a long term relationship. Maybe he is the kind where the fire is quick and intense, and then burns out quickly. Maybe he gets bored after 2-3 years and loses interest. Maybe for him he's addicted to the thrill of a new love and the long term doesn't interest him.

Something's going on there. It would be interesting to understand it better.

ITA. I was born, raised and live in the south. We do not drop the "g's" when writing. Milo is totally attempting to disguise his or herself. I do believe, from photos posted, that this person does reside in the south but that does not mean they speak with a southern accent. Dropping the "g" is really unheard of in normal day-to-day writing. For whatever reason, this person wants to appear folksy and not threatening.

roxyhelen, all the kids have been abused, but Collin has been singled out. Don't know what his issues are whether from at birth or appeared later, but her abuse certainly exacerbated whatever was going on with him. I really think Collin got to her because he is stubborn and refused to bend like the others. It will all come out and I agree there is some nefarious reason she kept Collin from Jon. I think she was surprised by Hannah's outburst, though. Does she think these kids will keep their mouths shut forever? What will she do then? Call her kids liars?

Yes, another spontaneous trip to a store, where the employees have to scrub everything spotless for the cameras.
Sounds like the filming is cranked up to "11" again.
I hope the back-to-school episode gets crappy ratings. These kids need to go through this ritual and rite of passage in private, especially Colin.

Can you imagine being separated from your siblings, friends and school and having to start all over again all on your own, and the cherry on top is that your new cohorts have been watching you on tv all of your life?

It's too bad Jon squandered his wealth, did not work one stable job, and marry a normal woman because things may have turned out differently for those kids. As it stands, it appears Kate still has complete control. I cannot see a judge ruling in his favor at present unless he can prove how toxic Kate is to those kids. I guess, with Hannah still at home, he lost or cut a deal. Frankly, I think Jon puts his freedom first. I just never saw him sacrifice for his kids.

I think Jon and Liz were really into each other and tried to continue their relationship even when the writing was on the wall.
Liz was slobbish, rough around the edges and immature, at least as presented on Couples Therapy.

What I was referring to in my previous post was post divorce. I have been very disappointed in Jon not doing what it takes to prove to a judge he is the more stable parent. Hopping around from rental to rental, job to job, woman to woman is not going to impress that family court judge.

As long as Jon is seeing to the needs of his children, I could give a flying flip about his love life. Those children have much bigger concerns, i.e. a bat shit crazy Mother

True, their bat shit crazy mother is a huge influence on them.

However, Jon's love life does impact his children in that when he is living with the woman (versus dating her) that *does* impact how he is able to meet the children's needs. It changes things. She is entitled to a say as to what goes on in her home....that impacts the children.

Not that any of the women have been bad influences. They've probably been good influences, if anything. I just think as a child that it's gotta be hard to have your dad living with a different woman every 2-3 years, declaring each one to be the love of his life, his soul mate.

IMO, as a child, your dad just dating would be a little easier to accept.
There isn't the difficulty of living with a person for several years, getting attached to her, and then they're ripped out of your life, and you have no say in any of it.

I could see where the children might develop an attachment disorder. They seem to have had a multitude of caregivers throughout their lives, all of whom just rotate through. They're there long enough to get attached to, and then for whatever reason (TFW decides to carve them out, the girlfriend moves on, whatever) they're gone, and the next one comes in.

Not judging. Just thinking about hard it must be for those kids.

I too think that TFW has been pestering TLC to focus future shows on Collin's special needs. She will want to highlight her new role as 'mother of a special needs child'. A while back she tweeted she wanted to be the spokesperson for "bullying" (although she probably meant "anti" bullying). She is so desperate to be relevant she will jump on any bandwagon; the latest will be spokesperson for mothers with a special needs child or children while still 'caring' for their brothers and sisters. She will only see the possibilities for her not the damage that will be done by future filming of the children.

Okay, back to the Duggars for a moment. According to this article in People magazine, the Jill/Jessa spinoff did not happen because:

1. Jill and her family left the country
2. Jim Boob did not want a show that wasn’t all about him.

Also, this little blurb on the Duggar “special” on molestation:

Even though their hit series has been cancelled and there are no confirmed spin-offs on the horizon, the Duggars will return to appear in a TLC documentary special on survivors of child abuse.

"They're happy to show that this did not scar them permanently," the source says.

So, the Duggars and TLC are going with “we got over the molestation, so you should to?”

That will go over well.

The 92-page report starts with the 515 entities where the Republican presidential candidate has a title, from the Donald J. Trump Revocable Trust to Trump World Publications LLC to Trump Ocean Manager Inc. to DT Dubai II Golf Manager LLC.

All candidates for federal office are required to file the personal financial disclosure forms with the government, and Fox News has made the disclosures a qualifier for its Aug. 6 debate, the first nationally televised matchup of the contenders for the Republican presidential nomination.

As a treat, I was always allowed to pick one item to take home that wasn't on the list -- usually something like a carton of ice cream or a box of popsickles or maybe a bag of candy. I still miss my mom when I go grocery shopping.

****
Thank you for providing the link to that article. I find it interesting that JB is being portrayed in a negative light. (I happen to believe that he would be against any Duggar TV show that excluded him, but since both married daughters are adults, they could have chosen to sign on for a spin-off show without needing his permission. However, after being raised to defer to their father in all things, I imagine just being told he didn't want them to do a spin-off show would have been enough to make them reject the idea as well.)

The Duggars are still making their own videos and posting them on their FB page and on youtube. Watching them, you can see that TLC's film crew and editors did a masterful job in making this family at all interesting or presentable. Their amateur home videos are pretty bad, and of course, JimBob wants all the attention. He's boring as hell. I cannot imagine living with that bloviating ass.

I think Jill and her husband might have had plans to do a missionary trip to another country before the show was cancelled. Maybe TLC was even planning on filming some of their "adventures" and including those as episodes for next season. After all, the show's producers were probably digging around for new or fresh story lines. Then the scandal erupts, TLC stops filming, Derick has already given his notice to Wal Mart. Good thing they have gullible fans who will donate money to them, without even being provided with any details on where they are going, much less what they plan to do with the donated funds!

JimBob is a classic grifter and self-promoter. His children have grown up witnessing how he conducts himself. I'm sure some of them think that's the way to live, rather than getting an actual education and a 9-5 job. The bad news for JimBob is that without TLC editing out his annoying mannerisms and worst comments, and working 24/7 to polish the Duggar image, is his narcissism is going to let his real self shine right through now.

So I hope this newest girlfriend is a good person, well aware of what she may have to deal with (not just the kids, but the ex from hell as well).

The best thing for the kids is having an ongoing relationship with their dad. He has always worked hard to make that happen, whether he's involved with a woman or in between relationships. The constant is that their dad is there. Many kids experience this, not just the Gosselin kids.

Former, thanks for the kind comment.

I really don't care where Colin is. Wherever he is I hope he is having fun. I only mentioned Camp Barnabas, cause of CA and IF TLC is going for the Disable kid thing, they may go to the camp and film. I HOPE NOT! These kids should be left alone. Life is hard enough for them, they don't need to be on TV, and that goes for Colin, and his sisters & brothers. But this is TLC & Kate, anything for ratings and money.

Well, she is 3 mos and has the name Abigail which isn't our first choice but I wouldn't feel right about changing it...she already responds to this name...what do you all think? We can always pick her middle name!

From the Camp Barnabas website: Christian camp for kids and teens, ages 7 to 17, with life-threatening illnesses and disabilities.

I hardly think Collin qualifies.

I did like the Hayes parents very much and they seemed like decent, average people. I wonder if they declined to sign on for another season, or if TLC chose not to offer them a renewal. Either way, it was for the best. They got to earn a chunk of change, but got out of TLC's clutches before any real damage was done.

***********
I was looking at their FB page, and apparently TLC decided not to renew the show. Who knows what really went down? It is interesting, though, that there were comments from them in which they expressed interest in having TLC do a special, or annual specials, and that they contacted TLC about it and never heard back from them.

I also remember going to the grocery store with my mom. When I was younger, I remember asking her to buy me a pair of plastic high heels in the toy section. (She just said "we'll see" before moving the cart toward another aisle - lol)

**********

Isn't it funny how we remember the most insignificant things like that? I, too, loved to go grocery shopping with my mother. When I was old enough, she'd let me go by myself to the corner grocery store, which was right across the street, and I'd buy what was on the list and the owner would just send her a monthly bill. I remember that toy section, with really cheap stuff (like at the Dollar Tree), but those things really fascinated me. I remember a small plastic bow and arrow that I wanted in the worst way!

Kind of a mouthful. How do you feel about the name Abby?

BTW, congrats on the addition to the family.

In her journal Kate said she told Jen that if the Hayes were going to be their HOM competition on Discovery, she wasn't going to compete with them. Guess we know who got her way.

Regarding C, I just don't see Kate willing to participate in all that is needed to make sure he is getting the help he needs. Can you imagine her sitting in the IEP meetings and being an advocate for him? Taking him to the psychiatrist? Taking him to therapy? Considering the professionals' recommendations and then implementing them? Going to a parent's support meeting? Talking with other parents whose children have the same diagnosis and asking their advice? Nope! She would rather just use this as a storyline for the show.

I spent years editing grammar in scientific papers. It's a little different but still editing. "Could of" does bother me but I figure I'm on a Kate blog and I can't correct every post and we don't need to be perfect. Because I don't like it, I don't use "could of" myself.

I suspect if grammar is worse, it's because of teaching to the test. The teachers might not have time for many grammar lessons. And I was thinking that we actually end up writing more now than we used to. Facebook, reddit, emails, blogs like this, texts. Think about back in the 80s. How much did you write? I bet it was less (in your personal life). Interesting how things change.

Then there's typos and autocorrect which can be really fun.

The main reasons he wanted to stop filming had nothing to do with his children.

&&&&

He's been pretty clear both with TLC and the public that he pulled the plug on filming preceisely because he did not feel it was fair or beneficial for his children to go through a divorce on national television.

I've counseled at camp before. We were trained that we are all mandatory reporters and anything we hear in that vein had to be told to the director. The Gosselin kids are never going to camp.

We don't even know if Colin is "special needs." You don't have to be disabled to not stay at a private school. We assume he has been damaged by his mother and I agree. But I would be surprised if he saw a psychiatrist too. Definitely a mandatory reporter. I'm sure Kate and TLC are trying to exploit this. But what if the only thing she's allowed him to be diagnosed with is a learning disability? I know moms with kids with multiple disabilities, wheelchairs, brain injuries, etc. For her to whine and moan over Colin's homework is disgusting.

Last night Little People, Big World got 1.550 million viewers and a 0.5 share, while My Giant Life got 1.474 million viewers and 0.5 share. Once again, people are watching--they're just not watching K+8. And back-to-school shopping? Is that all they could come up with? Let's see…the kids will fight (in public) with Kate to get what they want, she will balk at everything they like (gotta bring some drama into it), and then she'll flap her hands and talk about how expensive it is to buy school stuff for 8 kids (as if she's paying for it--HA) and how they're growing up and she can't tell them what to wear now. Then we'll hear (again and again) about how, in less than 2 years, she'll have 8 teenagers. Riveting TV, just riveting. I really, really hope this is the episode that drops below a million viewers.

The fans bullying those poor kids at Boscov's is ridiculous, even for them. A public figure in a public place has no expectation of privacy. In my area, everyone has pictures from visits by Obama prominently posted. Ray's Hell Burger, Five Guys, Ben's Chili Bowl, etc. Obama goes into a local business, and people take pictures. Does Obama throw a fit? No, of course not. Just last weekend I was in an ice cream place in Georgetown, and there were pictures up from a visit from Barack, Malia, and Sasha. The tourists were curious (When did they come in?--Father's Day last year. What did Barack order?--Coconut ice cream because he doesn't like chocolate). No threats, no nasty letters, no fake twitter accounts. Public figures are photographs and filmed in public places. What's the big deal?

I agree, and in conjunction with that, twenty-some years ago when my children were in elementary school, I was horrified that they were taught to spell phonetically and ignore grammar and punctuation because the rules might "stifle their creativity". These non-stifled students are now teaching the next generation, having never learned the rules themselves.

Thanks, dear ladies. I heard dogs do best with 2-syllable names. Depends on what the family agrees upon! Must say I am a bit nervous for our interview and collecting the pup- haven't had a little one in so long- wires, hazards, plants, stairs etc!! We had fun buying things for her today and house and yard-proofing.Fence is brand-new coincidentally, after the harsh winter caved it in, in places.

I will update when I can. :)

What I was referring to in my previous post was post divorce. I have been very disappointed in Jon not doing what it takes to prove to a judge he is the more stable parent.

&&&&

I'm sure Jon has done all he can to prove he is appropriate. And actually, the law assumes he's appropriate. He doesn't have to prove that. If he were inappropriate, he wouldn't have the frequent unmonitored overnight contact he has. It's not a question of that.

There are many factors that go into what the custody arrangement will be, different theories on what it should look like, and Jon simply got sucked into a family law black hole. Things shake out they way they do, and trying to change them later will always be hard. He's not the first parent this has happened to, nor will he be the last. Pick the parent of your children carefully. You might have to fight them in that system someday. As long as the children see both parents frequently, the situation is usually fine. They will decide for themselves someday how they feel about Kate and how much contact they will have, and they will appreciate Jon more than ever then.

I used to love going grocery shopping with my mom. I learned to read at an early age, so she'd give me the grocery list and I'd sort through the coupons and match them up to items on the list. When we got to the store, it was my job to check the lower shelves for items we needed, while she checked the higher ones. I learned to compare prices and keep within a budget that way. As a treat, I was always allowed to pick one item to take home that wasn't on the list -- usually something like a carton of ice cream or a box of popsickles or maybe a bag of candy. I still miss my mom when I go grocery shopping.

You don't need an expensive vacation for the memories to be there.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

I was also a kid who hated grocery shopping as a kid. I found it inexplicably boring and it didn't help to try to involve me. I avoided it like the plague.

Now as an adult I usually love to do it. I love thinking about recipes for the next week and what I need to get. I like trying new products and flavors and I like using coupons. And I LOVE my weekly farmer's market. Actually, I go to two! LOL!

I really hope that Collin is not a storyline. If he is, it's entirely his mother's fault.
