TLC cancels '19 Kids and Counting'
After more than a month in limbo, the network decides to officially axe the popular show and says it's committed to educating the public about sexual abuse.
"We spent the past month and a half in thoughtful consideration about what is the best way forward here. It's no secret that '19 Kids and Counting' was a really, really hit show. I didn't think her interview was terrible. She opened the door and let them talk and they said a lot of things that were really disturbing. She let them do that.
I'm really disappointed she has been so hellbent on turning this into a political issue. I don't see how it is. I don't care what your politics are, sexual abuse is sexual abuse. There shouldn't even be a party platform on the issue--we all find it deplorable. In fact I think it's pretty insulting to victims of sexual abuse to turn it into something political, and insulting to liberals or democrats or whoever she is after to imply that the only reason they are so horrified about this is because they just want to "get" some conservatives. That is so disgustingly false I could hurl.
On a side note, I don't appreciate when she speaks for lawyers. She said something like as lawyers we should be very upset by the release of these records. I think most lawyers feel the opposite. A lot of lawyers feel that freedom of information and utter transparency, even in sexual abuse cases, is the only way we will ever find justice. Lawyers all the time are trying to get documents that other people don't want them to see. So no, that is not the party line of lawyers, either.

That's what I don't understand. As a lawyer, shouldn't she recognize that this fell under freedom of information? I would think that if she's going to throw around the fact that she's an attorney then she should be on the side of the law, knowing that what was done, even though she personally didn't approve, was legal. She's not casting the legal profession in a favorable light by suggesting that all of this should have been kept behind closed doors and never "leaked" to the public.

sexual assault, then process it, and move on is a sequence of events one can get their mind around (although the second steps can take years, if they're ever even fully completed). What has struck me about Michelle noting that the girls really didn't even know that the abuse happened and they've all forgiven and moved on is that we're talking about 4 girls who ranged in age from 5-12 (?).
What they each experienced and how they've processed it is vastly different due to the age differences.
Michelle has continued to lump them all together, which is mind boggling for me to think of a mother doing.
Each girl will have different reactions and feelings. Each girl would have processed it differently, and continue to process it differently.
It told me, clearly, that the girls were and are expected to put it behind them and never speak of it.
Any involved and caring mother would view this as an ongoing issue for EACH INDIVIDUAL VICTIM. That mother would know the nuances of each girl's experience with what happened to them, and would know damn well that they should keep communicating, keep healing and most of all, keep them safe from their abuser.

I hate to say it but I don't think they're all that bright either. This is where Michelle's idea of a good homeschooling education has really failed them. I am NOT saying homeschooling is bad, I'm simply saying whatever they got doesn't seem very good. It's clear they're not even understanding some basic nuances of why the records were disclosed. They're thinking about it in such simple terms. They were minors, and "everybody knows" the freedom of information act protects minors (that's not exactly true, it's much more complicated than that) and that the reason they were somehow an exception to the rule is because someone had an agenda (no evidence of that either).
They're not grasping that one of the big problems with keeping their case sealed was the very fact that there were no charges filed, no case filed, no minor defendant to protect. When we were researching this last month discussing it here most of us realized that most of these minor laws apply to actual cases. If there's just some sniffing around, an investigation, but nothing ever comes of it, chances are it's not protected at all.
They have no counter point to the actual facts of their case. By now, they should have been able to come up with one. This takes critical thinking skills and analysis that one develops through the help of a good solid education. They're not that smart.

Assault is still assault even if the person does not understand what happened. Low IQ, mental illness, young children, comatose: they can't define what happened or often even describe it. Yet these are all considered assault and hopefully as a society we prosecute those offenses. I have a real problem with those who abuse our most vulnerable people. Would Michele really be ok if Josh raped a 3 yr old? The 3 yr old can't understand it. Michele is disgusting. Sure JimBob runs a cult and brainwashes but she is an adult. She has no conscience.

Yes, as a matter of public policy we cannot judge sexual assault based on how much or little the victim understood it. In the law there are subjective and objective tests, subjective of course being how the person perceives it and objective being how a reasonable person, every day man or woman, would perceive it. They want the test for rape to be subjective, as in as long as they're okay with it it didn't happen. And that's not gonna fly.
By their logic, it would be okay to rape a baby because not only do they not know what happened but they'll never remember it. But because they're not that bright, they're not able to follow their logic down that rabbit hole and realize how absurd they sound.

I hate the fact that the older girls are lying. If you read the CPS interviews, they had some idea of what was going on. One victim was assaulted in the laundry room. The girl that was 5 at the time, may not have fully understood what was going on, but she knew she was being touched in a private place. This assault also happened during the day time. The child was sitting on his lap listening to a story and he fingered her. This assault finally forced the parents to say this is a big problem. The only problem is that Josh was never given real mental health treatment. He did some time of forced hard labor and intensive bible study.
What is with these "reality" tv people suing because their shows get cancelled. Top notch shows have been cancelled but you don't see any of the people who play those characters suing. I never watched a Duggar show in its entirety. I could not stand Michelle's voice and the aerosol smell of Boobs hairspray came right threw my TV set. I have severe asthma so could not tolerate the choking it caused.

Josh's punishment was remodeling a building to be an ATI retreat center. He may not be digging coal or laying railway ties but it's still hard labor because he was forced to do it. The program was not supervised by a public entity. It was all inhouse cult work.

I agree in reading the police reports it sure seems like at least some of the girls knew what was going on.
I feel badly for the girls in that they couldn't even get a straight story together. They insisted to Megyn they were asleep when this all happened. If they were asleep, how do they know it wasn't so bad? How do they know it was over clothing? For being asleep, they sure can remember a lot of details. If I were them I don't know if I could even trust my own memory anymore. Was I asleep? Or did my dad TELL me I was asleep? Sigh.

I saw something interesting while watching the reality show, "Chrisley Knows Best: tonite on AMC. The show regularly has one 9 year old child and occasionally a 3 year old appearing. In the credits it said: Teacher/Welfare. I interpreted this to mean they're using a set-teacher. Props to the network/production company and the parents for following the law and kudos to the teacher for being listed in the credits! I guess there might be some hope for some children in reality tv. Maybe.

The Duggars, in particular JB and Joshie, sought to flex their ill-gotten, yet formidable, political muscle to not only campaign against gay rights, but to malign transgendered persons and the LGBT community as a whole.

I thought that the term "hard labor" refers to additional compulsory labor assigned to a person who has been convicted of a crime, or is serving in prison. This really doesn't apply to Josh.
Who sentenced Josh to this punishment? Was it mandatory ordered by the courts, or was it suggested as rehab? I don't remember hearing how this came about.

I think we've already seen that. On 600-Pound Life (which really isn't bad because it's sort of a documentary and in fact, interesting) there was a woman who was married to a really skinny guy. I'm not sure he was anorexic, but close to it. He didn't want her to lose weight because he loved overweight women. He kept shoveling the food into her and was one of the worst enablers I've have seen on that show.
There is a series on British tv called Supersized vs. Superskinny that compares the diets of 2 people, one quite heavy and one rail thin. The 2 principals on each episode have to eat each others food for several days.
They are counseled on nutrition by Dr. Christian (forget last name) who is a GP in England. I have enjoyed the show on YouTube.

There are times when yes, kids can be challenging, but never would I say that every day is a struggle. Enjoy your children, sheeple! The time goes by oh, so quickly and they'll be grown up before you know it.
My understanding of the basic timeline of the Duggars is this. When Josh first molested some of the daughters they consulted a family friend who also happened to be in law enforcement, I think he was a sheriff. Without actually reporting it down at the station it was decided among the adults that Josh would move out and go do some hard work at a family friend's house. JimBob said he considered a real sexual offenders program however in researching them he found that most of them had poor success rates (Does remodeling houses have better success rates?) JimBob admits they did not report it, and believes that the law does not require parents to report such things.
Josh did his work, moved back, and all was well for several years until they were scheduled to appear on Oprah. Under circumstances still rather unclear somehow Oprah's team was tipped off about this past abuse, and Oprah's team did the morally correct thing, cancelled the appearance and reported it to authorities. This cancellation has caused speculation for years on the blogs about why their appearance was axed. Now we know.
Only THEN, after Oprah, did they actually have the kids talk to real authorities. Several years after the initial contact, when a young child's memory is stale and unreliable.
JimBob's version of events is Josh decided to go to the authorities to "come clean" and move on. From what I can tell I believe that's nonsense--they only went because Oprah reported them.

Haha, the challenge on Food Network Star tonight was to make a boxed meal i.e. Blue Apron style meal. They emphasized this is NOT for professional chefs, the idea is to come up with a meal idea for a HOME COOK who could make it in 40 minutes or less. I agree with all of this and was just going to say the same thing. Why does she tweet this? My gosh. Do it in private. Call the company and speak to them in person rather than putting it out there on twitter that you want their response. She MUST know this will be criticized as grifting, which is what it is. I don't get it. I don't understand her. Their respective inlaws may have something to say about that, and Jon. It's not going to shake out that way, Kate. There will be many holidays where you won't see them on the actual day, or at all. There are alternatives to BA. Many cities have meals of the month clubs. They come up with the menus, buy and prep ingredients. You come in on a specified day and assemble your meals. This usually means putting ingredients into plastic bags. You freeze the assembled meals when you get home. Pull out and cook when you are ready. Less expensive then BA and it's usually a local club or group so you have some say in the menue. It's slightly more expensive then buying and prepping all the ingredients yourself, but it saves a lot of time.

Even so, at only age 11, they may not be old enough to understand the nuances of teasing. It really would be better if she explained to them you know Mom is just teasing--you know I love you to the moon and back and would love to see you every holiday. But when you grow up you're going to have a family of your own and even more people who love you and your kids and who want to see you too. I want you to know that we'll all SHARE our time together and that even if that means you're going to inlaws on Christmas day that doesn't mean we love each other any less. No matter what we'll work it out so we all get to spend lots of time with family....and it's also okay to do things on your own or with your own little family and not worry about mom. The key is, no worries.

He had it afloat for a impressive long time, but eventually he failed.
"here" as in the compound? Kate's crazy if she rattles around in that huge home alone after her kids are up and gone.
Even if she's living with someone (married, not married, who cares), it's too big. It just breeds disappointment and resentment when you expect your kids to fill a huge home all the time, when they have other commitments and constraints.
My aunt has 6 kids, and now, over 2 dozen grandkids. She asks for Christmas Eve, that's all. That's her thing and every other holiday, she knows whomever shows up and can make it is welcome, but no expectations.
Add to the mix the fact that Kate is divorced makes things that much more complicated.
You have to be very flexible and understanding, and she's going to pit her kids against their father, spouses and in laws.

Well another fail from TFW, best selling cookbook author (NOT). I always blanch before freezing so decided to look it up because I could be wrong. From everything I read you should blanch before freezing. Below is a sample of what various websites say (and the ones I checked say the same thing).
Though you can technically freeze zucchini as is, we recommend taking the time to blanch it first. Blanching inactivates the enzymes that cause the vegetable to become mushy and discolor over time, even in the freezer.
My advice to TFW is it maybe Google before giving your sage advice on something you know nothing about.

I think these kids are cunning and are jerking her chain left and right. I think they suck up to her, I think they know who holds the purse strings (her), and I think they know what she wants to hear and how to get what they want out of her. i think Kate lives her life as if it's a reality TV show, which means it's all BS. She tweets things that in her reality show mind, sound good, i.e., her children look up to her, idolize her, stand in line to rub her feet, want to spend their whole lives with her, want to have happy, happy holidays as one huge Borg-ish unit, all 150 of them. With the mere typing of a public tweet, she can have $180 worth of dinners delivered to her doorstep, which elevates her way above the mediocres, and not bat an eye at the expense. I think it's the script she follows in her undeveloped brain, not what really happens.

I was sleeping so peacefully until several lines of storms started going through here, waking up everyone, including one of the dogs. I now have a full bed. Think Julie Andrews in the Sound of Music scene. I almost feel like I should be singing, "My Favorite Things."
There is no reason on God's green earth why Kate needs these delivered meals. She's home all day, is physically able to get to a grocery store, she's the author of a cookbook and can certainly find the time to shop and prepare meals for her kids. She's just trying to get free food.

I think the outrage would be well placed IF BlueApron gives Kate freebies or discounts.

Since the meal plans are either for 2 or 4 she wants to score two 4 person meal plans to be delivered twice a week. She'll then only cook one of the meals for 4 and divide amongst the 8. Where most people would only get two meals out of it she'll get 4 thus stretching her grifting budget and the twins will learn to cook from the cards.
Kate grifts because she is addicted to getting something for nothing. The freebies poured in with the births and TLC gave in to her demands. She still thinks her "celebrity" accounts for something. New York Magazine has an incredible article in this week's edition on the Cosby rape allegations. Pictures and stories of 39, yes 39, women who have strong words against him. At the moment the site is down - this article is getting a lot of publicity. I was able to read it, or most of it, last night and it's both upsetting and riveting. I couldn't read it all … it was kind of like reading Hoffman's book. The website is nymag.com. I'm sure access to it will ease up during the day.

That was my exact thought when I read of her grifting the BA meals. In fact it is probably a good way to teach the twins to prepare meals. As for actually going out to pick up the fresh ingredients and learning how to get value for money, well TFW wouldn't spend the time to do that. You know, I just spent a few minutes in my kitchen, chopping up green and yellow beans for the freezer. In two pickings from my little garden I have 8 x 8 meals. We've been eating them fresh and can't keep up. Also peas, kohlrabi, radishes, pole beans and snap peas. Still have onions, carrots, tomatoes, peppers and squash coming. Cost? Less than $10 for some seeds and a little sweat equity. She's one of the producers of the show. (cough, cough) Imagine the episodes that could have been filmed of the kids and her planting a garden, maintaining a garden and harvesting and eating the bounty. She's got 26 acres. Think of all the money she'd save on tanning too? She could be out there rockin' Daisy Dukes or a bikini, for crying out loud. (Behind the scenes all the work being done by TLC staff)

I think this program could be useful to people who have a good income, work long hours, and don't have the time, energy or desire to shop for their own groceries and prepare their own meals, yet don't want to pick up fast food for dinner. Blue Apron fills a niche.
But, if you are a person who is serious about eating organic, and knowing exactly where all your food comes from, then this program is not for you. You would instead be growing some of your own fresh ingredients, shopping at local farmers markets for most of the rest of your food, and making your own meals from scratch so that you could be assured that what you were eating and feeding your family was as close to 100% organic as you could get.

Yep, got my hat. I was in the orange & black Giants shirt with the A's earrings - no doubt you saw me - lol! FYI - for the last 2 years, our local Costco has been selling discount Giants tix starting the day after Thanksgiving. So my friend & I get out our calendars, check it against the promos we want (all the bobbleheads of course) & then go to Costco & get set for most of the season. I have to budget all off-season to do it but we get tix for at least 2 games a month. Seat are awesome - Lower Box (!) - and average price ends up being about $40-ish per ticket - no tax, no service charges. Not sure if your Costco does it too - you might have to come down to a Contra Costa or Alameda County Costco, but it's definitely worth it.
A's fireworks nights are also worth going to. Really fun & you can bring a blanket & watch the fireworks from down on the field after the game.

I was thinking of the sheeple who want to be Kate, and how many of them will go the route of Bella Bars and order from BA, tweeting photos of their amazing meals. Spitting out my iced tea here. Whew. What a relief to know that I can now feel safe shopping at Boscovs. Although I have been a regular customer there ever since the store opened many years ago, I was always looking over my shoulder, wondering if I needed a bodyguard or the Mall Cop on his Segway to follow me around!
There was a stabbing in the parking lot last spring, so perhaps the Defectives should get on security about the safety of shoppers outside the store. That should keep the sheeple occupied for awhile.

Oh, Sue Buddy! Yes! Last Christmas I hired both a Rent-A-Cop and a K-9 unit to sniff out the store and all entrances before I even set foot there. The dogs looked so cute in their Santa coats and caps. The cop was pretty easy on the eyes! I'd rent him again in a heartbeat!

OMG It totally must have been her that sent the letter.
I had no idea I was supposed to fear for my safety at Boscov's. I know my husband fears for the bill when I go shopping there. I can never get out of that store without spending $100. Just today I got 4 boys bathing suits and rash guards, three girls bathing suits, a beach chair for the pool at French Creek, a pair a shorts for me and two t-shirts to tie-dye with the kids. I would LOVE it if Boscov's decided not to do anymore business with HRH Pain in the Ass. I'd spend $200 each trip to reward Boscov's.
Also, Blue Apron has a Groupon. Maybe Kate should buy a couple since she's such a struggling single mom stretching a dollar.
I've always worried that little grainy security footage of me doing my shopping, trying to decide between the khaki or white bermuda shorts, could someday end up in the wrong hands. Like ISIS. Or a Kate Gosselin hater.
On a serious note, why do they think it's any of their business how this store handled this situation? Guess what, it's not. They have no right to know, nor does knowing have anything to do with "security." Their burning desire to know what they did with this employee just proved that it's not about feeling safe at a store, it's about GETTING someone who dared to make a snide remark about Kate.

Oprah sent the girls the morning after the interview with Fox a big gift basket. Oprah had first wanted to send it to Michelle, but after the scandal broke out, she sent them to the girls.
I could take or leave Oprah generally, but this whole Duggar thing just proves that she and her staff are good, moral people. With something this huge, I would be shocked if her staff didn't let Oprah know what the problem was with having the Duggars on their show and that they wanted to inform authorities.
Somewhere along the way, I'm pretty sure Oprah cleared them to report it and cancel the appearance. I just can't imagine she wouldn't have been in the loop on that.
