Exclusive photos. I would say that Amy's wedding was one of the nicest weddings that the Duggars have been to in decades. Jim Bob and Michelle should of felt shame when they sat down to eat at the reception dinner. Feeding 2K people root beer floats and cookies for a wedding is just crazy. I think it makes JB feel really big and important to have that many people actually show up to one of his daughters weddings.

That's what I was thinking, I'm not sure the governor can do anything about this even if he wanted to. It's not like he is king of all the land and he can take virgins, behead traitors and pardon Kim Davis like it's Braveheart. He's just a governor in a democratic country, and I'm not even sure he has authority to pardon her much less help whatsoever.
On Monday, the lawyers announced a parallel maneuver: they asked the appeals court to set Davis free while they fight Beshear for bureaucratic changes that would accommodate her religious opposition.
Davis already has sued Beshear on the issue. Monday's motion asks the panel to allow Davis to leave jail while the case moves through the courts.
"There are multiple alternatives available by which individuals can obtain (same sex marriage) licenses without voiding Davis' conscience and stripping Davis of her liberties," the lawyers wrote, according to a copy of the motion posted online.
Among the possible alternatives, the lawyers wrote, were creating an "opt-out exemption" in the marriage license process, deputizing a neighboring county clerk, taking Davis' name off of marriage licenses and having the state distribute the licenses.

Since her lawyers are tying up the courts and causing the state to spend money anyway, he might as well authorize impeachment hearing for Davis.
I used to live in Cincinnati. It's conservative but even the newspaper there says Davis has to go:
The way forward isn’t simple or cheap. The General Assembly can remove her from office via impeachment, but lawmakers don’t meet again until January. Calling a special session would cost taxpayers an estimated $60,000 a day.
Davis and the rest of her staff face a contempt-of-court charge in a hearing Thursday in front of U.S. District Judge David Bunning. Fines and jail are both options, but neither would remove her from office.
Another avenue remains to be pursued: Attorney General Jack Conway should appoint a special prosecutor to investigate criminal charges against Davis. It’s unclear, however, whether she can be removed from office through this route.
The situation is complicated by the upcoming gubernatorial election, in which Conway, a Democrat, is running against Republican Matt Bevin. Bevin has defended Davis’ right to follow her conscience, which is concerning.
Kentucky polling shows a majority of residents oppose gay marriage, but that isn’t the issue. The issue is whether we as Americans are all held to the same laws or some people get to make up their own.
Elected and judicial leaders must be united on this point and, one way or another, ensure that the law is upheld in every county in Kentucky.
I do not approve of what Kim did....the laws should be enforced and jail is an option if a official doesn't.
What I have a problem with is when elected officials chose which laws they will enforce...immigration or drugs. They may not specifically cite religion, but will use code words like 'compassion' 'moral' 'right' thing to do.
If you don't like a law, do your job or resign, then work to change it.

In one of the articles quoting the judge's remarks from the bench, he mentioned Mrs. Davis' regular visits to the jail to conduct Bible classes for the female inmates. Being reduced to inmate status herself must not be very much fun and/or the inmates are tired of her. I'm kind of surprised there's no parody account for #mycellisnexttoKimDavis or #i'mthecorrectionsofficerinchargeofKimDavis'cellblock.
I'm hoping the issue of NathanBoy is addressed at Thursday's hearing/he is given the same choices as his mother. The Davis monopoly and hostile work environment in that office needs to be addressed.

Sure but I think the idea is that you shouldn't have to LEAVE a job just to avoid a hostile work environment. It shouldn't happen in the first place. Especially in an office with elected officials with responsibilities to the people.
Also they may not be able to easily get another job because they'd have to explain why they quit, which would be awkward, and Kim might refuse to give them a good reference. It's a pretty risky situation leaving a hostile work environment, with most of the burden falling on the victim.

My sympathy and compassion for Davis and her ilk is wearing mighty thin.
The good news is that this moronic move will only hurt their cause, because it's obvious these zealots will go to any lengths to get their way.
I hope the judge brings to bear the full force of the law to control these protesters.

A news release issued by Rev. Flip Benham said that "Christians from all over the country" were going to be present in front of Bunning's house. There were more than a dozen protestors holding signs that preached against homosexuality and that called for the release of Davis from jail. Benham is the North Carolina-based leader of Operation Save America, which takes a position against abortion. He has previously been found guilty of stalking an abortion doctor in Charlotte.
On Monday, Ft. Thomas Police and possibly federal agents stood guard at Bunning's house. The street quickly filled with TV news vans from Cincinnati and a few curious onlookers.

I'm going to have to disagree. These 'Christians' have a basic understanding at the very least re: laws, the separation between church and state, etc., but believe that their religious beliefs gives them the right to bully and infringe on the rights of others.
They're fighting a losing battle. While most Americans respect these 'Christians' rights to live their lives according to their religious beliefs, the law applies to all in it's entirety. It's not Burger King where you can "have it your way".

Daily Mail has much better pictures of Amy's wedding. She looks real nice in those pictures, her bridesmaids had very pretty gowns. Maybe that is one reason the older Duggar girls were not in the wedding party. No long sleeves and no turtle necks. The reception area was decorated nicely also. I bet the guests got more than a cookie or a 4oz root beer float.
Anna looks tired and sad in the pictures. She had on a blue blouse and a khaki skirt. I hope that girl comes to her senses no matter how hard it will be at first.

This Flip Benham(I refuse to call him reverend). Last year, when NC approved same-sex marriage, he was protesting gay weddings at one of the courthouses.
He also interrupted a church memorial service, because the church, Unitarian Universalist Church, has a liberal approach to contraception and abortion. How can he call himself a Christian when he goes to another church and interrupts a solemn service?

Judge Bunning is being targeted not only for Kim Davis but he has also ruled in favor of partial-birth abortion. There is no doubt to me that this will escalate.
In my opinion, Cruz and Huckabee are stirring up the evangelicals to fight a nonexistent war on Christianity in this country. They go ahead and pander to the evangelicals for votes, but they are alienating the younger under 40 GOP Libertarian types from the party.

Well TFW is back so I guess they're done filming. Those kids just can't catch break. lol, yes, and she will not be ignored. Hide the bunny. How long did the tweet stay up before she deleted it? A few minutes? She has always said that she deletes her tweets to clean up her timeline. This time, there were no tweets for over a month..only that one to delete. She deleted it because it was an oopsie. She is such a doofus, and such a sneak.
I think that the people who should be suing are the people who were turned away, based on a violation of their civil rights. I assume that any discrimination suit would be against the government agency.
It is one thing for her to refuse based on religious convictions. But, if I am understanding correctly, she prevented her entire department from issuing any licenses, which would mean that, In addition to failing to fulfill her own job duties, she prevented everyone else from doing their job, too. I assume that the deputies were not elected officials, and did not have the protection that she enjoys. So, as far as being released, I think that might be reasonable, had she only acted in her own transactions according to her beliefs. But, if she abused her power by applying pressure on those under her supervision, she should absolutely not be released.
Since th high Holidays are coming up, I will use that as an example of what I am trying to say. A school principal may refuse to work on the HhIgh Holidays, and don't think anyone would be criticized for that and say that she signed a contract that waived that right because the days in session are stipulated. However, if that principal shut the school down, that would be interfering in other's jobs, as well as the education of the students and inconvenience to the families. Would it be suggested that the students just go to a neighboring schools or attend online classes to accomodate her? Of course not! That principal would probably be removed from her job, and rightfully so. if she was removed for her religious beliefs, that would be a completely different matter.

It's also due to the stupidity of Mike Huckabee, who was the one who organized this rally. He is only using her to win points with the evangelical Christians in his run for President.
I read where Ted Cruz is going to see Davis in prison, but will not be attending the rally. He's another one who is using her for what he hopes will be his political gain.
As I said before, I wonder if this whole Kim Davis thing will be a topic at the Republican debate on Sept. 16. I think there are other more important topics to speak about, but right now I don't see how they can avoid it.

True, but we go through this every winter in the Northeast, many times with only an hour's notice as we sit on the computer waiting to find out if school is cancelled. There have been numerous times when school has not been cancelled, only to find out conditions deteriorate throughout the day and we have to scramble to get those kids back home and find sitters for the remainder of the day. It is not fun.
In the case of Kim, however, she brought all of this on and unlike snowy weather, she and her antics are responsible and it could have been avoided.

They did sue. They're the plaintiffs. This has been going on since I think a few days after the Supreme Court ruling in July. As I understand it there were various injunctions and so on ordering Kim to comply until it came to a head a few days ago and the national media finally picked up the story.
That' why there was like a gazillion press in there when she turned down the license, because this has been building all summer now.

Yes, but that's to be expected and that can't be helped. Also often when it's bad enough to close school, it's bad enough to not get to work either. School shouldn't be closing over one doofus who can't help herself. Parents shouldn't have to scramble like this.
Also, most schools only have a few extra "buffer" days for things like this. A school that far south that doesn't get bad weather that often to justify closing school might only have 1-2 buffer days. Once you use them up the kids have to go to school for extra days at the end of the year.
It's outrageous this is happening to all those kids. And unfair.

Not around here! Since we are so used to driving in horrible conditions, it has to be a two-foot blizzard before everything shuts down and many times non even then. Medical facilities are still open as well as grocery stores, pharmacies, etc., and those people are expected to get to work. Schools often close when only a few flakes have fallen or if nothing has happened, but is predicted. What is maddening is when the latter happens and a parent makes arrangements for a sitter. Schools close on a forecast, and the snow never materializes.

That's nice but I think the issue would be better served if no action is taken until the scheduled hearing on Thursday. I haven't heard that Mrs. Davis is now willing to fulfill ALL of her duties as county clerk. If she's released today or even tomorrow, then the 'Christians' claim victory and Mrs. Davis would probably go back to refusing to issue marriage licenses.

Apples and oranges. Kentucky is not used to horrific weather like the northeast is and if a storm is bad enough to close school there, the county will likely be under a state of emergency and parents couldn't get to work anyway.

A hospital I worked at had part-time people cover patient care on weekends (in my department) until it became more advantageous fiscally to have the FT employees rotate weekends for coverage.
It sucked.
We had M-F jobs, but had no choice but to cover ever frequently increasing weekends, Sat. and Sun.
Too bad, so sad.
A couple people left and I don't think anyone was given special dispensation to get out of the duty, which would have left the rest of us picking up the slack, and not getting paid any more to do it.

They did sue. They're the plaintiffs. This has been going on since I think a few days after the Supreme Court ruling in July. As I understand it there were various injunctions and so on ordering Kim to comply until it came to a head a few days ago and the national media finally picked up the story.

Ok, I read the court order and I still think she's getting a pass. Maybe a partial pass. Neither she or her son have to issue marriage licenses so both are still collecting their salaries while choosing which parts of the job they will or will not perform. And I'm sure Mrs. Davis will continue to spout off and say the marriage licenses don't mean a thing without her signature.
Incredibly smart move by Judge Bunning. She has been released which is what her attorneys and the crowd wanted, but on his terms. She and her deputy clerks have been clearly warned that there will be appropriate consequences if they disobey his rulings.
If she deliberately disobeys, I'd say any sympathy she has gained will dissipate. Unfortunately, her attorneys are shysters. They want her to bear the burden of a showdown.

I see it this way, the judge's job is to ensure that people who want to get a marriage license in Rowan County are getting one. Satisfied that is now occurring, he has to release her.
As far as making her, specifically, do her job, I think he sees that as in the hands of the legislature which can impeach her.
I think this is a judge who is strictly construing the law and what he is supposed to be doing. He's not here to say Kim do this or that, he's here to ensure the OFFICE is doing what it's supposed to be doing.
I hope the employees get to have a individual private audiences with the judge to give status updates. I'm convinced that office is run like a dictatorship.

The solution is a lot simpler than all this hullaballoo would lead one to believe.
The office needed to affect compliance and Kim Davis needed NOT to interfere with that.

Frankly, removing her name from the paperwork was more of a compromise than she deserved or has ever reciprocated.

Do Davis' reports have the authority to defy her? It seems an unfair position to be put in- your boss trying to stop you from doing your job, or going to jail because your boss prevented you from doing your job.
I have no idea how Davis would prevent others from issuing licenses.

I think that Kim Davis totally fails to separate herself as a person from her office, and that is what has led to her actions.
Somewhere I read that her lawyer suggested that her objection is to having her name on the marriage licenses, and the governor should just call the legislature back to redesign the license without the clerk's name. But then, when the office bowed to her wishes and issued licenses without her name, the same lawyers say they aren't valid!
I think that Kim Davis has a very inflated idea of her importance. Rather than a clerk, running her office and carrying out policies set from above, she thinks she should be the one setting the marriage rules! And she also instructed her minions to follower her rules, rather than policies set by the legislatures and the constitution and interpreted by the courts.

Davis' lawyers are using Davis to defy the SCOTUS and overturn the court's decision on gay marriage.
This has NOTHING to do with Davis' "conscience" and I think her representatives blew smoke up the judge's ass to get her out of jail.

I do not know who is worst when it comes to scamming and grifting...the Duggars or Kate, who scammed the church-goers out of donations when they were settling on a million dollar house. I think the point of the judge's order where he told Kim Davis not to interfere with the clerks issuing the license covers this. If she orders them not to issue a license to a same-sex couple it would be her in contempt, not the clerks. The judge would then send her back to the hoosegow and the clerks would then issue licenses in her absence.

The deputy clerks COULD be liable if they let her push them around. They need to openly defy her if need be, and the judge gave them permission to do it. Not only that, but he wants them to update him every 14 days on how it's going. If she uses some kind of force or other means to stop them, they should call the cops on their own boss.
If I worked in that office, I would want it stipulated that Mr. Davis not be there unless there was some official business. I just get a sense that he's going to make his presence known.

She's wacko and I will be glad when this whole thing is over!¨ I told her at least she isn't wearing a jumper and she just laughed.
I think the Kim Davis crowd won't be satisfied until every county clerk can decide whether his/her office (including subordinates) will issue marriage licenses (at all or to same-sex couples) . If they achieve that, they can then run candidates for county clerk that pledge not to issue them, thus over-ruling the supreme court decision one county at a time.
The judge isn't going to allow that. He's allowed Nathan to opt out, but he's not going to allow a whole office to opt out. "Separate but equal" was debunked a long time ago.

I find it amazing that in Kim's brief speech, she talks about how much she loves her supporters.
But that's all this was about. The Supreme Court sanctioning love and her job was to facilitate certain paperwork as to that love.
The tears and support and speeches should have been behind the gay couple who first took her on. But then, they're not doing this for the spotlight. They're doing it because they love each other and just want to be together in the law's eyes.
