Jacob Roloff: "Just because the adults say it's what's best, doesn't mean it's what's best"

The youngest star of TLC's Little People, Big World, who has been filming the show since he was about seven years old, has been speaking out more frequently about his dislike of filming and his desire to protect other reality stars from a childhood played out on T.V. screens

Jacob recently met Jack Hamill, star of Our Little Family. Jacob had this to say on Instagram about the encounter (click to enlarge):

The post garnered more than 2,500 likes in less than fourteen hours. (On average, Jacob's Instagram posts get 800-1200 likes each).

Well done, Jacob, and keep speaking out. You have a unique perspective not many others can claim to possess

Why the heck is Hillary weighing in on all this Trump nonsense? It's not even worth her breath. Thank you Captain Obvious, yes Trump went "overboard." I hate to say it but it looks like trying to jump aboard the headline of the week.

I want to thank everyone again for being so respectful of each other. It's amazing we've been able to discuss this as long as we have had without any major blowups. I really don't think the elections will be as fun if we aren't able to discuss them here!

I heard the actual audio of Trump's Blood coming out wherever line on the radio this evening. After actually hearing it, I don't for one second believe he meant her period. He should have just apologized for how it sounded and for offending Megyn, and then let it go, it all would have gone away. That said, he's still number one in the polls.

Yep, I agree. I listened to it, too, and I don't think that he meant anything other than she was out for blood. At this point, the media will scrutinize everything he says, twist it in a way that they want, wear him down to the point where he will be more focused on his treatment by the media than he will on the issues of this campaign.

I'm not so sure about apologizing to her, though. The media would blow it out of proportion, claiming that he knew exactly what he was saying (her period) and that's why he is apologizing. An apology wouldn't end it. It would just be more fodder for them.

He has a big mouth, and he will put his foot in it so many times until this is over, so will the media expect him to apologize to everyone who thinks he has stepped on their toes?

I agree, and he made a similar comment about some other journalist, a male.

OUT FOR BLOOD is the cliche he is looking for. He did sort of a malaprop. You know how you're searching for that right cliche but you say it half wrong or a little wrong? That was Trump. He realized halfway through saying it that wasn't quite right, he kind of said, "or whatever" and then moved on, never able to quite think of the cliche he was looking for. Nothing more nothing less.

I think if Trump meant to say she was on the rag he would have just said so, bluntly!

Again, he should have just apologized and said that's not what he meant, then ignored everything else. Although who am I to tell him what to do, his campaign is going just fine for him.

He is using this incident to prove his point. See, the evil liberal media just turns everything innocent around against you and wants you to be politically correct all the time. The media is playing right into his hands, hook line and sinker.

If Megyn wants to be a class act, then she should have said that those questions are unacceptable to her and she won't discuss her sex life, or the size of her husband's penis. Period.

&&&&

I have to agree. Discussing that wasn't classy and it was demeaning to women no matter how consensual it was.

It's not exactly the same as calling another woman an offensive name, I agree. But it's in the same vicinity. The point was she's been pearl clutching, when she herself has said some pretty nasty and demeaning things about sex.

She allowed Stern to make her a sex object, and she allowed her sex life to define who she is. She allowed herself to be objectified.

I'm not saying a woman cannot discuss sex with someone like Howard Stern, however, I think it's demeaning and objectifying. It's not like you're discussing sexual dysfunction with Dr. Oz. That's different. You're reducing yourself and your value to how you perform in the bedroom. Another test too is would you ask a man the same thing? I bet not.

She had a choice to not answer those questions, and instead she opened the door. She now acts horrified that someone would open the door just two doors down on something similar. I get why Trump finds this troubling.

readerlady said...

Yes, in a 'normal' situation, an apology would have been the way to go, taking the high road, saying you're sorry if the comment were taken the wrong way. However, this time I think an apology would have been construed by his opponents and the media as an admission of guilt, no matter how he would have phrased such an apology.

Frank Gifford was one helluva good looking man in his day, and he aged well into his 80's. He still had "it" and carried himself well.
I'd say the same for Tony Bennett. The man still has it.

As far as Trump's bleeding comment, he has only himself to blame that people jumped to that conclusion. If he did not have a pattern of making debasing and sexist comments, then he might have been given some leeway on that comment.

He is a distraction of the media's making--they love to cover a circus. The truth of the matter is that the guy has no strategic political alliances--which of the current candidates will toss him their endorsement when they drop out? When Shrub (George W) ran, I thought there was no way he could win. However, I underestimated the power of his political connections and the strength of the conservative right. The conservative right is not going to rally around Trump, who decided yesterday that he is no longer pro-choice. Even the other rich white guy, Romney, couldn't get those folks enthusiastic about him--and he had powerful political connections.

Wowee. A 22 year old young woman just lost her father. I'm sure she didn't expect him to live long enough to see her children, his grandchildren but certainly perhaps long enough to see her get married in walk her down the aisle. I find that extraordinarily insensitive and presumptuous.

I don't know about that. Did you listen to the audio? On no planet would any reasonable person have drawn that conclusion.

The problem is in written form it just sounded off. Even I immediately jumped to the rag as did others here.

I have to give him this one, the media was looking for something like that and twisted something completely around to suit their agenda. Then they showed us the print form, without bothering to include the audio which put it in context. I only found the audio on my conservative radio station. Funny.

But like I said regardless whose fault it was he should have just immediately apologized and moved on. He made a much bigger deal than he had to. There is nothing wrong with apologizing when you misspeak, even innocently. We all misspeak, words get jumbled, things come out wrong.

Maybe I'm naive, but I doubt she was thinking about furthering her 'career' with a comment about her father's death. The news reports said his passing was unexpected so I would imagine she was trying to express how wonderful she thought her father was by calling him a "stud of an angel" in between expressing that she lost her best friend & that he was an incredible man. The word is used to mean "bad-ass" in this day & age...isn't it interesting how the english language evolves.

I'm agreeing with admin on this one. He was looking for the cliche, "out for blood" and just messed up. If he wanted to say she was having her period, he would have said something like "it's her time of the month." He wouldn't fool around with it and mince words. He'd come right out and say it. If one hates him and thinks he's an idiot, then they'll take those words and believe whatever they want to believe about it, no matter how he explains it.

The media has an agenda and they are going to milk it for all it's worth. They will be picking apart and twisting everything he says. This is only the beginning. If he has a snowball's chance in winning this thing, he needs to watch his mouth and his criticism of others..

Personally I would have given him the old heave-ho after the scandal with the flight attendant, because he was apparently quite the horndog.

He was a great athlete, but I found his sports commentaries expressionless and quite boring.

Whatever. May he rest in peace.

But "one stud of an angel"?

I'm not saying she didn't love and adore him, but that is a rather odd acknowledgement of the man coming from his daughter.

I guess I just don't always yield to the idea of canonizing people just because they died.

Midnight Madness #68 - I too think it was an unfortunate choice of words to refer to her late father as a "stud". I had forgotten about the reports of his dalliance with the flight attendant but the recent reports of his death reminded me of the story and, together with context of those reports, I just thought 'wow, not the way a daughter should refer to her Dad'.

I think people here are being hard on Cassidy Gifford. She's not looking for attention because her beloved father died suddenly. If she wanted attention, all she's got to do is hang out w/ the Kartrashians, whom her parents were Godparents to two of the Jenner girls. She's had the same boyfriend since high school, which is a long time, considering she's spending most of her time at school in LA. Not every one is sinister. Give the girl a break.

I just think it was a bad choice of words. I would also think that before she commented on his death perhaps she should have run that by her mother/family members to see if it was appropriate. Sometimes these youngsters just don't think before they tweet, or how it could be interpreted. She obviously loved her father and wanted to memorialize him in some way, but the "stud" remark could call forth memories of his philandering that have been forgotten and are best left behind him.

I guess I'm not getting your point. So one should not give him the benefit of the doubt because he allegedly made sexual (?) comments about his own daughter, and therefore it is logical to assume he meant Kelly was having her period?

From what I remember, he was asked if his daughter would pose in Playboy and he said that he couldn't speak for her, but he didn't think that she would, but she does have a nice figure and if she weren't his daughter, perhaps he'd be dating her. Is that a sexual comment? Is it graphic? I don't know. I thought he was joking, that it was a comment about himself because he has always preferred younger women.

I've always thought it was somewhat funny when, in the middle of a woman speaking on Celebrity Apprentice, Trump's eyes would glaze over not listening until he would finally interrupt her and say, "Isn't she beautiful! Isn't she just fantastic? Don't you think so?" Lol, wtf?!

He had no patience for anyone boring to speak at all. He would cut people off within a sentence or two if he got bored. He did it to Kate all the time, which was hysterical. For once she wasn't getting her soapbox to drone on and on. He had no time for her.

Rand Paul/the Limburgh baby is whining about how Trump's kids have never worked a minimum wage job in their lives. I really don't have much sympathy for him. They can't go around saying Trump is being nasty, when they start insulting his children too. Plus, how does he know that? Is he sure? His comments are completely unwarranted. Trump has raised generally great kids who worked hard both in school and ALL work full time jobs. Ivanka especially seems like a wonderful woman. It is not a requirement that every child work a minimum wage job. It's more important they are working at all.

These other candidates are playing their cards all wrong. They're clueless how to handle him. Trump is going to take this thing all the way home at this rate, just because everyone else is being a dolt.

My problem with cases like this and why I find them a little bit frustrating to try to follow, is the same as Jon and Kate's battle. We don't know everything. We just hear bits and pieces and unless we see all the documents, talk to the parties and sit in court, we only get 1/10th of the story. I can't make heads or tails of who is the bad guy here if anyone, if these decisions are right, or what. Clearly she hid things from him like the birth of her child, but apparently he may have ties to some serious and questionable activity like the drug trade.

I would like to track down the Supreme Court opinion from a couple years ago on this, it should be public record, but even that is going to be old information.

What is somewhat interesting is apparently California is now saying they don't have jurisdiction over this family, and New York said the same. What is also interesting is that their on paper "50-50" custody order involved the children residing most of the time in Monaco. Obviously, that's not going to be 50-50 with her career here.

Yes, I consider him saying he would date his daughter a sexual comment, particularly in view of the fact that it was in response to a question about posing for Playboy. And no, I am not aware of other comments, so I stand corrected.

Interesting that in the same topic, we are discussing Cassidy's comment as well. Just because the women are comfortable with it or laugh it off doesn't make it appropriate. It just means that this is probably what they grew up with and are used to. If Trump says this publicly, what does he say privately?

How many of the posters here who thought that the comment was just fine, and not at all creepy or crossing a boundary, would be comfortable with their own husbands publicly commenting on their own daughter's body and joking about dating her. Call me naive, but I thought fathers are supposed to be protective. I would have thought an appropriate response to the Playboy question would have been mor along the lines of "hey, that's my daughter we are talking about."

This is not about partisanship--it is about a person who has a pattern of degrading women--whether by belittling, name calling, criticism or sexualizing (ie the comment to a CA contestant about getting on her hands and knees).

You know his comment was so controversial it warrants its own Snopes page, and they have pretty much debunked it!

You have to look at the context. He was on The View, where the interviews are usually lighthearted and joking. The ladies were JOKING about Ivanka and what he would think of her in Playboy. He didn't bring his daughter up himself. It was the question from the ladies that was arguably inappropriate, asking him personal feelings about how he would feel about his daughter. Asking him hypotheticals about his own children IMO is borderline RUDE. It's not like he made some offhand comment about Ivanka. It was provoked, and it was made in a setting that traditionally encourages joking and not taking things seriously.

In context, I think he handled it quite well, the idea of her being brought up like that and him being put on the spot. He deflected it with a joke. And before he made the joke, he actually said he wouldn't want her to do that and he didn't think SHE would want to either.

There's a lot I think is over the top about that man, but a simple joke to deflect a somewhat inappropriate question, is harmless. Obviously, he would not ever date his own biological daughter.

http://m.snopes.com/donald-trump-date-daughter/

I pose a similar rhetorical question to you. How would you, as a parent, feel about some women you hardly know asking you how you would feel if your child posed for Playboy? Because I for one think that question is RUDE. None of their darn business and how dare they suggest that.

Exactly what HE should have said. A couple of years ago, Jason Alexander was on the Bill Maher show. IMO, he is total pg. He started making disgusting sexual remarks about, I think, Paris Hilton. Jason Alexander, who has a daughter, completely shut him dow.bThat is what a protective father does. If Trump is such a straight shooter, why didn't he shut them down?

Speaking of the latest exploited multiples(Busbys?), I have a question for everyone here. A few weeks ago, the parents of the "Quad Squad" took them out for a "meet and greet". Basically they took their barely immunocompetent, premature 6 months old to a public place to show them off like monkeys in a circus and encouraged people to come ogle at the girls. Here's my question: Am I overreacting, or you guys find it disgusting too? Would you do this with your own kids?

I don't think the children were any more at risk than when at home with probably their daily scrum of caretakers, but yes, it is disgusting how hard and fast these children are being exploited.
This is like J+K+8 on steroids.
The Busbys are delusional in their thinking that they are somehow immune to the very real and severe risks of becoming reality tv personalities.
They will change and probably become drunk with money, fame an power. Divorce will follow, as will paps, tabloids and the whole media circus shebang.
Heck, maybe Steve will hitch his wagon to them, as Kate's star is most definitely waning.

Agree- the ladies instigated the conversation and Trump went along. Nothing lascivious about it.
I'll tell you what icked me out father/daughter-wise was Brian Williams saying he watched his daughter's sex scene on "Girls".
It was just gross that he would even comment on it in such a casual way.
I think any father would want to peel his skin off watching his daughter act out a scene where she's getting a rim job whist her butt cheeks are motor boarded.

Now, there's a weird guy.

I agree. She's always struck me as hysterical. The judge just didn't decide one day that her kids should live in Monaco. This has been a long road and Rutherford is STILL defying court orders, just recently refusing to put her kids back on a plane to France.
She needs to deal with reality and stop putting her kids through this emotional turmoil.
I heard just this morning that when she packed up the kids and left California, she lost the protection the state afforded.

Here's my question: Am I overreacting, or you guys find it disgusting too? Would you do this with your own kids?
------------------------

Since they are also being filmed by TLC, I don't find it surprising. TLC is filming them for a series about first time parents. I found this article that was posted about them just after the quads were born. Here is what it says about TLC filming them:

"The couple has partnered with TLC to document and share their “amazing adventure.” Throughout the upcoming months, the network will follow the family in a series about first-time parents and their newborns. The series will premiere in late 2015.

Tyson said he and Ashley are excited to bring their followers along during the journey.

“TLC has been incredible to us. They’ve helped us out a lot,” he said. “We have the best birth video ever. We have the best home footage to show our daughters when they want to see how they came into this world. There’s no way I could’ve got that on a GoPro or iPhone.”

Ashley said she wants the show to be something their daughters will treasure.

“For me personally, I don’t have very many baby pictures. It was just different back then,” the 27-year-old mom said of her own birth. “It just makes sense to keep documenting.”

Tyson said he isn’t worried about caring for the girls and doesn’t feel pressure from TLC about the show. He thinks he and Ashley will be just fine.

“God has a plan for us and he’s trusted us with four babies,” Tyson said. “We have faith in him and we have faith in each other.”

http://www.heraldextra.com/news/local/special-sections/quads/article_c7d4141e-d459-5678-b37c-19e99ddae14c.html

You notice how all these families, Gosselins, Busbys, Gardners, ALL have the same talking points? "We're making memories", "God has a plan for us", "We'll be just fine".

Does TLC write the talking points for them? It's just seems it's "lather, rinse, repeat" when it comes to these shows.

MirandaSings concert is tomorrow in Reading. Wouldn't be surprised if TLC got them VIP tickets. Maybe they'll film part of that for the show too.

Then when Kate finally shows up on twitter she'll be complaining about all the things that have to get done before school starts. Don't they go back in 2 weeks?

http://radaronline.com/exclusives/2015/08/kate-gosselin-and-kids-spotted-filming-kate-plus-8-vacation-special/

"According to a source, Kate Gosselin and her children were spotted late last week filming a vacation special for their hit TLC show, Kate Plus 8. According to the source, the family was enjoying the sun in Destin, Florida, about to head out into the ocean blue for a fishing trip!"

Wonder if Kate or TLC is the "source"? Have to get Kate's name back in the news, even if they're reporting something that we've known for almost 2 weeks.

I'd heard the talk about Trump saying something about dating his daughter. I didn't know the context, but thought it an odd thing to say.

Now that I know the context, I don't see how The View ladies are any different than Howard Stern. Stern is further down the path, but they're both on the same path.

They both ask inappropriate questions, and then go all "ain't I cute? I asked an inappropriate question, and the person answered. Ain't I cute?" Titter, titter, giggle, giggle.

In both cases, Trump & Kelly, they could have shut that down in a polite way, but didn't. Trump did a better job of responding without engaging, whereas Kelly actively engaged.

Trump, in his defense, probably didn't expect to get asked such a stupid question, and probably was just answering with whatever came to mind, and got carried away with the answer, a la the way he got the metaphor wrong with the blood comment.

Kelly, OTH, knew exactly what she was getting herself into with Stern, in that he is known for that kind of inappropriate talk, and chose to engage anyway. She's not the "innocent" she tries to portray herself as.

I can't see how Trump can bring unity-- all he's done so far is divide, scoff, ridicule, threaten, ect.

On another note, those that said Obama didn't have enough political exoerience and those that are backing Trump-- whose only political experience is buying future favors.

********
And Kelly is a good example of shooting her mouth off, too. What would have been interesting when she asked Donald the question of his treatment of women is if Donald would have fired back and asked her about specifics, when and to whom did he refer to women in those terms. She must have done her research, and if so, she should have told him what he said, when, and in what context. A journalist would have documentation at his/her disposal and as such, should have been able to provide those details instead of making a generalized statement.

If asking Donald that question was fair, and it's no-holds barred in this campaign, then it's only fair that Mrs. Clinton should be asked about her husband's affairs with Gennifer, Paula and Monica...what she knew, if she were covering up for him, and so forth, as well as her relationship with Foster, and Whitewater. Let's put it all on the table.

Speaking of Hillary, it seems that she has a bit of 'splaining to do. At first she denied having classified e-mails and she wouldn't turn over her server. Then she erased e-mails (which I understand is a felony), and now it's come out that not only were there classified e-mails, but Top Secret, SENSITIVE Compartmented Information (SCI) e-mails and it was ordered that the server be turned over. I think with this new information the public may really doubt her trustworthiness. You just can't deny that there were no e-mails and then erase them. It should be interesting to see how all of this turns out.

I think the point that a few are making here is that Kelly is NOT the innocent, and no, she's not running for President, but she was giddy and out for blood when she asked the question. She went on Stern's show knowing exactly what kind of format he ran, and she answered very personal questions that most women would refuse to answer, and then she turns around and spits at Donald for degrading women when she herself sat in an interview and talked about sex and penises (peni?). If nothing else, it's hypocritical.

This is off-topic, but FYI, Michelle Duggar has managed to be on TV again, at least here in northwest Arkansas. The City of Fayetteville is again considering a civil rights ordinance to protect LGBT individuals. Mrs. Duggar does live in the same county, but not within the city limits of Fayetteville. As I am a Fayetteville resident, I was "treated" to her fearmongering robocall on this topic some months ago. Now I've seen her, albeit briefly in a non-speaking role, on a local TV newscast showing what I gathered were some of the leaders of the anti-ordinance group. I noticed that she looked relatively disheveled (in other words, how most ordinary people look in real life) as compared to how I've seen her and other people look on reality TV shows with their hair and makeup all professionally done, etc. I also recall that a few years ago she inserted herself into local decision-making in the City of Springdale -- where she also wasn't a resident -- when a liquor store location was being considered. I find it interesting that she has time to involve herself with local issues in communities where she doesn't live.

Don't these kids realize that what they tweet, as well as photos, and what they post on blogs and FB could eventually be in the hands of prospective employers? If I were looking for an employee and came across some of that filth, I'd say, "I'm sorry, but that position has been filled." I realize that many of these are teens and 20-somethings who don't know any better, but good grief, isn't there anyone in their families to rein them in and advise them that you just don't put those things out there?
