It was not overlooked. That article was speciifcally posted here, and speciifcally discussed. Many of us said we actually disagree with it. That was an OPINION piece, not a factual piece. We are free to disagree. I disagree with most of that article. I think it's excusing a Vatican which has been sloppy, careless, and has put their implied support behind more than one questionable character, including that sick Georgia murderer. They can bless whoever they want, but I don't have to agree with it and I'm free to take it as an endorsement if I darn well want to.
Many of us said, including me, that because of who Kim is, it IS endorsing her. It's not like giving a blessing to a man on the street who happens to have done some bad things. Kim comes with an agenda, she comes with baggage, she represents something, and meeting with her, whether intentional or not, gives the appearance of an endorsement. He was not meeting with Kim Davis. He was meeting with Kim Davis the political figure. Furthermore, Kim's team put it out to the press it was an endorsement. The Vatican then had an obligation to correct that if they didn't agree, which they did, eventually anyway.
If it did not imply endorsement, the would be no reason for the Vatican to make a statement saying that they do NOT endorse her. They said that because the endorsement was implied. The only way to undue an implied endorsement is to speciifcally say, "no we do not endorse." They did so, and I give them the benefit of the doubt since Kim's camp is the one with the history of lying.
Bottom line is the Vatican, likely through their own carelessness, met with and tacitly endorsed Kim Davis, and that's how the majority of the public took it, you need only read the press to see people's reactions to it. The Vatican then corrected their error by issuing their own press release.
The pope has been known to be careless about security, according to the 60 Minutes interview I saw of him. He doesn't use the same protective measures other pontiffs have. The tight security was supposedly because the U.S. imposed it, not because the pope required it. Kim wasn't thoroughly vetted, and the result was quite a mess.

I don't have a problem with Kim Davis being a conscientious objector. My issue with her behavior is she is going way beyond being a simple conscientious objector and heading well into the territory of politics and trying to enforce her beliefs on everyone. Simply allowing the deputy clerk to sign the licenses should be more than reasonable accommodation; however, she is doing everything she can to make it impossible for eligible same-sex couples to get a valid license.

Exactly. When she was in jail, they removed her name from the license, which is what she said she wanted. When she returned to work, she ordered them to remove the county name, the deputy clerk's name, and the deputy clerk's title. I believe that was a deliberate attempt to make them invalid.

Here's my guess at what happened:
Some right-wing Catholic clergy member in Washington, DC made these arrangements. If the disguise and limo really happened, it came from that person and was to prevent the press and the Vatican from finding out that shenanigans were afoot. I believe the Vatican was duped and I also believe that heads will roll over this. I believe that person's career will be taking a huge step backwards I also believe the Vatican is finished making statements and we won't hear any more from them.
I'm more and more convinced that a large sum of money changed hands, with the Liberty Counsel writing the cheque to the Archdiocese of Washington DC.

I disagree that there was implied support of the Georgia women on death row. The Vatican is against capital punishment and has been for years. Pope Francis has been very vocal about it. He's also against life imprisonment.

Okay here's my best guess as what really happened. An American Vatican rep, or reps, low level bishop types, arranged various meetings of the dirty dozen and others. Since it was such low level quickies, mostly just hand shakes and God bless you's, the Vatican dropped the ball on doing much vetting of these folks, just trusting that the Americans have got it all in order. Kim finagled a spot in that group.
Hours later when Kim started bragging about her special viewing with the pope and the resulting firestorm, the Vatican immediately played "who me?" and hoped the story would go away, while simultaneously getting their PR machine on this stat. As the story escalated and wasn't going away, they finally decided to release that first statement explaining how informal it was and that they don't endorse her.
The missing piece I can't quite make sense of his her response to that statement, essentially saying the Vatican is lying. That's crazy to take this that far if it's not true.
As for the Kim selfie with a photo of the pope, maybe she's dumb enough to believe that was the pope when they told her it was. Or is it one of those things where you say I have a picture of me with the pope....I didn't say it was the ACTUAL pope in the flesh! Seriously how ridiculous can you get releasing a photo like that.

Well, Sat. morning and the news cycle has turned from Kim Davis like Joaquin has turned out to sea.
The Vatican is decidedly driving the narrative and basically, the message is this:
1. The Pope had one private audience with an old student who has been a long time friend, his long-time partner and some family. Most of them had their cell phones out recording the happy visit at the Nunciature, full of kissing, embracing and happy, joyful faces.
There are plenty of recordings to document this, and obviously, no one cared if the visit was filmed or released.
No one was wearing a costume or disguise.
2. The next day, the Pope greeted a bunch of people as he left the Embassy in DC and left for NYC. One of many of whom he greeted on his way out the door was Davis. Everyone got rosaries, a handshake and a Papal quip.
3. The meeting in no way endorses Davis and the Pope probably didn't even know the particulars of her whole saga.
4. The vatican spokesperson further distanced the Vatican and the Pope by saying there is a "sense of regret" of the meeting.

I bet the official photos are all property of the Vatican and I bet they have a clause that says they don't have to release anything if they darn well don't want to. Step one in the panic book is don't release any photos until you sort out the controversy. No matter what, at this point, the Vatican has for all intents and purposes, has neutralized Kim Davis, The Liberty Counsel and Mat Staver.
Even if there are photos of Kim being greeted in the group at the Embassy, we are no longer wondering what the context was.

Since he became pope, he has not made the kind of comments he made five years ago. Quite the opposite. That was partly why news of a meeting with Kim was so baffling. People change their minds. THANK YOU for supporting Operation Christmas Child!!! I love doing the artwork on the lids and I have 9 that I have just finished. I don't use straws. I have saved every straw that I can to put in them. Will get some red Solo cups in a sleeve, flashlights with extra batteries. IVORY soap and washcloths. They need IVORY soap because the kids take baths in the rivers and IVORY floats.
Also, those little boomeranged shaped basins they use in the ER make GREAT bowls for hot porridge. They said that the kids that stand in line for food don't have a cup, can, or bowl and they cup their hands to receive the porridge. It is hot and they drop it on the ground and try to eat it like that. So the soap and the cup/bowls really, really got to me and I have preached it to the rafters about putting these things in the boxes. Just so heartbreaking!

The St Lawrence is downstream from the Great Lakes. Starting in Montreal, it is surrounded by Quebec until it hits the Gulf of St Lawrence. The Gulf borders several Canadian provinces, but no US states.
Not that the dumping isn't bad. I wouldn't think Quebec City would be very happy with it, and of course the main protests are in Montreal where the sewage would be most concentrated.

I just read a few of the entries and I am so sickened by it.
Tup girl A had nicknames listed as Sassy and The Wild One.
Talked about the expulsion, that Kate lied about it.
C's entry was disturbing. Colly Coggy Colly Tommy were the nicknames.
Also listed were Mady and Cara's interests. Cara is sports and Mady is Acting and Photography. A didn't have any listed. C was drawing.
Before he was born, Mady was asking Kate for a little brother named Collin. He gets his middle name from Jon's father. He is a very bony man.

Personally, I do not believe the pope had any idea who Kim Davis is. I think the meeting, with a group, not private, was arranged and the pope depended upon his staff. It'll come out who first contacted whom eventually. My guess it was some political operative who asked for Kim Davis to be included.

Tucker's Mom--I can't give you a link right now, but I googled around re: sick leave policy for elected officials in TN when Kimmie first went to the pokey. It appears there is no set policy re: sick leave and paid time off. It is left up to the official.
My guess is that her gallivanting around the country on her media tour and meeting the Pope will come back to haunt her at election time or if she is impeached in January.

Elected officials don't have things like work, vacation, sick days. They work when and where they want to, and only they define what is work. The only checks on their behavior are the voters in the next election and the remote possibility of impeachment.
It's kind of like members of the Canadian Senate, only the Senators are appointed for an indefinite period (originally life, now until age 75) and don't even have to worry about re-appointment.

Didn't Kate put all of that info in a book, their nicknames, personality traits, etc? If so, I would think by now the kids would have read the book, or at least have been told about it. I seem to remember that it was discussed on an episode, one was cute and cuddly, one was a wild child. I don't think that the kids will have to wait until they are older to read about it. Kate put it out there, and those kids, certainly the twins, see it on social media. There has never been any privacy in that family, thanks to her.

The problem with free legal services is you get what you pay for. The Liberty Counsel is all about fundraising and grifting. That's their most urgent agenda, IMO.
That's also why Kim can't bitch about the service she gets or if she ends up behind bars again.
They're calling the shots and she's a puppet.
Her lawyer represents the agenda while simultaneously declaring he represents Kim. Unless that's just symbolic to him.

Sorry, I didn't make myself clearer! I have asked for permission for these things. I have only got a few of each things for the boxes. That was Christmas before last. And I save what I don't personally use, so I put them in the boxes. I fill out forms for samples on the internet that can be used.
I even asked Pringles for a small donation of empty potato chip cans so I could decorate them for a pencil cases. They said no.

Redbird, sometimes you just have to say, "Thank you for your input" and move on. If a person wants to do a little sh*t stirring, they will twist your words no matter what you say so you might as well not bother with them. You know what you're doing is good and kind and thoughtful, that's all that matters.

If that is the case, it really would be theft or fraud. A lot of people think it OK to take things from an institution or a business, and everyone has to examine their own conscience, but I wouldn't do it, even for what I considered a good cause.
On the other hand, I accept a new manual toothbrush with each dental hygiene visit, though I use an electric toothbrush, and have been known to pass them (unused, wrappers still sealed) along to family members. If redbird lived near me, I'd be ready to donate a dozen toothbrushes.

Yes, I thought the same thing, especially the connections part, but I know that redbird isn't always clear on some things and there can be misunderstandings.
That said, it did sound like someone was swiping some things out of central supply. Redbird has cleared that up and said that she has permission to obtain those things, and it a wonderful project in which she is is involved.
