Law and Order SVU: Patrimonial Burden

Last night's Law and Order: SVU was a brilliant ripped-from-the-headlines satire based heavily on the Duggars and other high profile sex abuse scandals, including a side plot pulled from the story of sex offender and Jon and Kate editor Bill Blankinship. If you missed it, you can watch the full episode on NBC.com or below.

Who done it? Was it the pervert camera man who saved naked footage of the girls? What about the creepy older brother who was shipped off to Ecuador for a "mistake"? Could the Warren Jeff-like pastor-slash-lawyer have something to do with this? Are the Bakers really a Bakers dozen or will DNA prove otherwise? Mariska and the team crack the case within the hour with a couple great zingers (Chastity Empire, lol!), a lot of binge watching and some solid detective work. Well done, SVU.

I could swear Mady and Cara were in the front row while Meagan Trainor was singing. One was posing with her hands on her thighs just like Kate did over and over on Celebrity Apprentice and both of them had sour pusses on. I would bet Kate is there pushing for the "first EVER twin contestants" on DWTS. Of course there is no room in the basement for a dance floor since the remodel so Kate would have to spend weeks and weeks (assuming the twins didn't have to be pushed around the dance floor like shopping carts) in LA chaperoning the girls.
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

By all that is holy, why would DWTS agree to collaborating with TLC again IF Kate and the kids are there to film some kind of reunion with the Irwins? They don't need whatever ratings Kate and her children could bring. And if ABC does consider putting the twins on DWTS, I hope Jon fights it in court.

For someone who doesn't watch she sure seems to understand this LexLos thing enough to order them sweatshirts and find it amusing. I don't watch, I don't know what on earth they are talking about, and I think if someone sincerely did not watch, these shirts would make no sense to them as they don't to me.

Also I'm kind of disappointed in the twins not rooting for Bindi. They actually know her, and Bindi has given them gifts. Even if they secretly prefer this Lex couple, at least don't go public with it. It's called being classy and polite. Kate, as their mother, needs to have sense enough to tell them that in PUBLIC, we will root for Bindi. If you want to root for someone else in our private home life fine, but she is our friend and has been very kind to us and so because we are courteous people, we are going to root for her. It's so gosh darn uncouth.

She watches. Notice how she said she watched WITH her 9th graders. Not just they were watching and she overheard them say this or that.

The Duggars are the exception.

Won't watch the Dugggar girls show or Kate's specials. Think there are some great basketball games on those nights.

I don't agree that DWTS would be interested in the Gosselin twins. They are only 14 and they are not well known to the public.

I really like Ree's show but I do get the comments about her. Aunt Annie your comment was very funny..great writing as always. Her show is staged but so is all the other food and reality shows. For instance, Barefoot Contesa has been on the Food TV network for 10 years and every one of her shows had a fake celebration, scenario, or theme.

What I find super interesting is Ree was close to having a movie made about her "love story" with Marlboro Man--her husband. Ree wrote a book all about him and how dreamy their relationship is. Well, I think the movie never materialized because once her food show aired Ree and her husband had no chemistry on air at all. Ladd does not project much personality at all either. There is no way a romantic love story could be filmed about them. I think Ladd (Marboro Man) is sorta nice looking and a nice man, husband, and father. But he is not the hunk that Ree wrote about in her book and/or blog. It was said that Reese Witherspoon was going to play Ree.

What really gets me is he barely compliments her food. It is just a ho hum general comment. Never a over the top comment such as, "wow, Ree, this is really great." It is usually something like, "this is good". And Ree does need to find some new adjectives. She uses the word delicious way too much and she says every other dish is her favorite. But I really do like her family.

We always liked the Crocodile Hunter shows. Steve had a camera crew at the hospital when Bindi was born, I remember seeing on film terri in labor telling Steve no way was that camera coming into the delivery room! He literally had Bindi on film as soon as possible after birth. Crocodile Hunter trivia, Steve claimed she was named after his favorite croc and his faithful dog Sui (pronounced soo-ee) . She was always a sparkly bright happy person even as a toddler.
I have a friend who is like that. Always happy, positive, smiling, and she is someone that other people gravitate to. I believe Bindi is the real deal, she is just nice and happy and positive. All the praise from the cast is not fake, they really truly love her.
That said, really great show and super talented and nice, likable, hard working celebs.any one of them could win and I would be happy.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You know why Bindi has made Kate PROUD?
Because Bindi has worked so hard to get to the DWTS finals and is succeeding and very possibly could win and TFW wants to hitch her "all in her crazy mind" star to Bindi's wagon. They showed a promo for the Grove during DWTS. They are having a huge Christmas event there so did TFW finagle a free trip paid for by DWTS? TLC's dime in exchange for filming the kids?
Another free trip for TFW, Steve and the kids.
I figured Kate was flying somewhere west out of Dulles. I assume Uncle Steve went too since Kate is unable to travel or navigate an airport without help. Perhaps this trip was a payoff to the twins for filming? My question: why drag the other six along? Something is up.
Lad is a man of few words! That appears to be OK with Ree since she's in love with his butt cheeks.
I do recall talk of a movie but that never seems to have come to fruition.
Ree's scored big anyway with a product line at Walmart, which is HUGE.
Kate could have had a similar trajectory if she had an ounce of talent. Instead, she's once again trying to push the twins into the spotlight.
I knew Kate wouldn't be spending her time and money with her kids on a vacation get away if it didn't have something to do with self promotion.
Cara is way too quiet and shrinks from the cameras, so I don't see her doing DWTS.
Mady -well- there are too many examples of her complaining, quitting and being disrespectful to think she'd have the stuff it takes to make it through one day with DWTS.
A month after their birthday, and a month before Christmas -- just
because. But before Christmas, TFW is bound to tweet about
the crazy hectic how-can-I-do-this-for-8-kids holiday season.
If she's in the position to do special things for her kids, then great.
But when your "brand" is that you're a struggling single mom,
you ought to clam up about these impulse purchases. Ah, but
if she clammed up, she wouldn't have gotten that return tweet
PJ, re DWTS, the show usually has a spring and fall edition. The fall edition does usually end around this time, before all the holiday tv specials start. They always have a terrific Halloween themed show during the fall run. The winners usually run by Jimmy Kimmels show for a quick chat, then usually they get on a late plane to NYC to be in Good Morning America the next morning. Not sure if that will be the schedule this year.
All of this, including appearances after the celeb is eliminated, and promotional appearances for the show, are all in the contacts. TMZ got a copy of Shawn Johnson's contract when she was on, because at the time she was a minor and the court had to approve the contract, and that put it in the public domain somehow. Compensation off the celeb goes up each week the person stays on the show.
There is usually some kind of tour after the show ends, that is separate contract and gets offered to celebs depending on their interest and their popularity on the show. And there has been a limited run Las Vegas edition. Even people who aren't the best dancers can get a spot on the tour IF they are entertaining and popular with the shows fans, one example is Carson Kressley from a few years ago. He even came back to do behind the scenes interviews the next season.
Well it looks like those hoodies that she bought for the twins are $50 each ($10 entire order off if you use the DWTS code at checkout) so she paid at least $90 plus shipping, handling and any applicable taxes. I don't think she grifted them (based on the tweet sent out by Alexis when she saw TFW's tweet). You've got to buy them through lexlos.com and from an article I saw the sweatshirts may not have been available for shipping until around the 16th so she probably paid for express shipping. I'll see if I can find the article again and post it if I do.
Do I think TFW's in LA? Yes. Is she there with all 8? Maybe not but I'll bet the twins are there with her. They'll probably be in the audience at The Grove tonight. TFW is probably in LA for her publicity blitz for the upcoming episodes and it happened to coincide with the DWTS finale. Why LA for the blitz? None of the NY shows want her. Why no media attention? No one cares.
If Kate wants Mady to be a DWTS contestant the first order of business would be to have her take a few lessons from Bindi in congeniality. Say what you will about stage mothers, at least Terri seems to have taught her daughter how to be gracious.
Mady's whining and temper tantrums are not attractive. For some unfathomable reason that kind of unpleasant behavior has kept Kate on tv. It's sad to see the fruit hasn't fallen far from the tree.
That said I've always felt sorry for her. She and Cara were both pushed into the background when the show was in its prime and the sextuplets were adorable toddlers. There would naturally be hurt feelings and some jealousy there. And what did TLC do but highlight Mady's surliness while all Kate saw were dollar signs, not the damage it was doing to her daughter.
Would LCDS even allow a student to be gone for the amount of time that it may take to film DWTS? Let's face it, the twins are really not working actresses they're just reality TV stars who are not home schooled so it might be more difficult to get a lot of time off during the school year. I doubt that DWTS would accommodate them with an in-home dance floor and lessons like they did with TFW. For TLC it's been there, done that and it apparently left a bad taste in their mouth. Again, and this is only speculation, I'm guessing that she'll be in the audience tonight but not because she's an invited guest of DWTS but rather because TLC finagled her some seats. Now I really do have to head out to the store!
TLC stinks said...
I agree she's in L.A. And I agree that she has used Mady's surliness to create interest in HER as a put- upon mom of teens. I watched in the early years and Mady's personality was always volatile. Jon even said in a couch interview that "Mady was Kate". I feel bad for her because my daughter was the same and it took adulthood to learn restraint, although it depends on her mood. Apparently Kate has not outgrown the behavior and it's A-OK to make her daughter her clone. Cara, IMO, seems to be a normal teen, kind of shy with the occasional eye roll. I think Kate sees herself in Mady and has been grooming her for God knows what.
TLC stinks said...
A boycott is nice publicity but it won't make TLC cancel anything. There must have been more than the child molester allegations for them to completely cut ties with Honey Boo Boo. Seems to me the Duggars and Josh are much, much worse.
Blowing In The Wind said...
Kate blatantly lied about not watching DWTS. This time it wasn't her Kate Speak. She didn't say that ONLY the kids were watching. She said that SHE was watching the show, then turns around and said that she hasn't had time to watch. How do the sheeple explain this? That she "forgot" that she had seen it because she's been so busy? That won't fly. Is she this stupid that she doesn't remember what she tweets? Once she says this, there is no taking it back. There are too many here who remember exactly what she said, even if she deletes it. It's still there in her tweet history (or at least it was this morning).
Milo will be so disappointed that Kate can't rock that bikini if she's in CA. Oh, well, such is life. She'll just have to get her jollies watching her frolic on the beach in the new episodes. Isn't it soon time for Milo's daily hawking of the new shows?
It'll come out if she is there or not. I guess by "family" it could have been just Kate, Steve and the twins at Dulles. That makes more sense.
Kate tells so many lies she forgets what she lied about, LOL. She is definitely been courting Terri Irwin all these years. That's why I kind of believe the DWTS theory. Always the master manipulator and user.
Hmmmm.....maybe?
What's really odd is that if she had watched it at home with the twins, why not tweet to Bindi and root for her? There were no tweets to her or to Terri indicating that she had seen the show prior to last night until she finally tweeted her.
With Kate, who knows?
She wants to get those kids on that show. She can't have Bindi out-shining them. She will never be able to take them out of school for that length of time. I just can't imagine that the school is going to go for that, even if they are tutored or have a set teacher with them, I can see Mady jumping at the chance, but Cara, not so much. Can you see Kate, as a Dance Mom, hovering over everyone at DWTS, trying to be in control and assuming the role as the Momster? Everyone there would be pulling out their hair! It might be fun to watch her jump up from her seat in the audience and slap the judges when they give their critique and votes.
I just saw a commercial for the Duggar girls show on TLC. I guess they are planning on going forward, with or without their regular sponsors. They must be counting on high ratings from the trainwreck/rubbernecking viewers. If the ratings are high enough, will the girls get their own show? I am afraid that they, like Kate, aren't going away any time soon.
It sounded to me like she was watching it on TV and she tweeted just about when the dance aired on TV in CA. I believe that the dress rehearsals may have a full studio audience in attendance. I think she'll be there tonight as an audience member only.
Since Mady isn't athletic at all, I think it would be a real stretch for her to get on DWS, and do the sort of dancing that they do on there.. Plus she hasn't ever had any dance lessons has she? Can just picture her mouthing off at the judges.
This business about Kate being too busy to watch reminds me of the time my Mom needed to write to my father's sister. (We're talking the 1960's here - long distance calls were for dire emergencies only). She didn't much like my aunt and neither did I, but it was time to be polite and drop her a short handwritten note. Mom wasn't in the mood so she asked me to help her out. Sure!
Dear Aunt Mary,
Mom is too busy to write to you so she gave me the job. I hope you are happy. We are having a great summer. (Followed by one line about each member of the family)
Surprisingly, Aunt Mary never received my note! I think Mom didn't like my handwriting or something. :)
Kate says that she's being driven nuts times eight.
When she makes these comments, I really get ticked off. Kate, just be thankful that you have eight healthy, thriving kids to drive you nuts. Just be thankful that you have a home for them, a good school, food on the table and clothing on their backs. There are so many who have lost a child, or who have kids with special needs, or who are struggling with infertility who would give anything in this world to have kids to "drive them nuts." Quit your bitchin. Your ungrateful attitude is showing and it's not cute. Only the really slow, immature fans whose penchant it is to kiss up and suck up to you will throw sympathy your way. Putting kids on display for their viewing pleasure and entertainment, and encouraging surly behavior shows the true color of the parent and the network. That color is greed. Grinch greed, and while the Grinch stole Christmas, you are stealing their childhood.
Oh she definetely has had training. She did all kinds of choreography for her zoo shows and TV shows. Someone taught her that.
But so have many celebs if not most who have been on that show and most of them weren't near as good as her. They've had celebs who are profesional ice skaters and some who danced professionally in the past.
I think it's a combination of raw talent and sheer hard work. It's the 10,000 hours rule. I bet that little thing has put in 16 hour days every day of her life between school, the zoo, the shows, the dancing, etc. That's how you get so good you soar above everyone else. What Bindi can do is outwork everybody else. She is exactly the type of personality the Hollywood lifestyle requires.
Hm. I mean, she must have.
Here is a video of her from four years ago singing and dancing in her Bindi show at the zoo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7gPgI3dfMk
Here's another dance video from when she was much younger doing some sort of disco thing. The steps are prety advanced for a child that age, you don't learn it in five minutes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XYqqpBEet4U
There are numerous others.
I don't think she's trying to be misleading. Maybe she doesn't think that learning choreography for her numerous zoo shows and music videos and the like is 'dancing". I believe she hasn't had any ballroom dancing training, but that's like an Olympic iceskater saying they don't know anything about dancing. Of course they do, the principles are very similar to iceskating.
I still find her impressive whether she's had a bunch of training or not.
The ratings that are posted a day or two after a show airs also list the demographics, the "key" demographics being the 18-54 year olds. The demographics for Kate's show during the last run weren't always in the key demographic range, meaning the majority of watchers were either younger or older, and I'm assuming younger based on the number of teeny boppers who swoon and OMG! on her timeline.
I'm sure the blog historian can do a better job at this than I can, but I seem to remember back in the day Roma was putting out some Christian videos for kids, about angels or something? Well when you looked at the videos they were for like preschoolers and their web site even said so. Kate got her hands on a copy. I remember saying, at the time, she was probably on a long list of hundreds of celebs with kids who got the promotional freebie in the mail with a request for a tweet. This is what happens when you are a celeb. Your mailbox is stuffed full of promotional crap like that you get for free in the hopes you'll mention it. But Kate apparently thought Roma had actually put some thought into sending this to her and sent her at least a handful of tweets sucking about how wonderful it was how much they loved it. Despite how age-inappropriate it was for her much older children. I seem to remember Roma never responded to her, though I could be wrong. My money is on Roma never even knew she was sent a copy. Some PR person put together that mail out.
I guess Kate thought maybe with R's husband being a reality show producer maybe he might be her in back into the business. If I'm not mistaken, this was during the time the show was cancelled.
Kate also tweeted them when the produced and Roma was in The Bible, which was televised over several nights.
So Kate would probably view her sucking up to them as successful since she did land on CA. Personally, I think it was a combination of Kate and her team's previous requests and few other people being available.
Yeah Kate might think in her pea head that Mark had something to do with her stint on that show. Doubtful though. There are casting directors and entire teams of people who recruit and analyze the cast on that. I'm sure Mark takes a look-see at who they have come up with and if he has any strong objections he can say so but he's got his hand in so many honey pots I doubt he's much more than a figurehead on a show as old as that one.
Speaking of Trump I do have to laugh sometimes at his over-inflated ego. On 20-20 he made it seem like NBC was chomping at the bit to give him several more seasons of CA which he "gave up" to run for president. I think he said three seasons, lol.
Up until this past season, all the reports were it was unclear if CA were even going to be on again. Ratings were falling, and interest was waning after so many years of it. They were also reportedly having trouble getting anyone interesting on.
This past season did better than expected after some good casting choices so I buy they were considering another season and may have had him sign on if it came to fruition, but he was hardly top billing anymore.
Fleecing, Kate must have answered a casting call for Wife Swap. Her name recognition got her foot in the door and TLC and ABC must have worked out a deal. TLC cross-promotes all the time.
No congratulatory tweet to Bindi? I think Kate was there, or is definitely not home, otherwise she would have tweeted.
I agree this trip was the result of publicity for the upcoming show on TLC's dime. Wonder if she'll tweet on Thanksgiving? I just hope they are not filming.
Kate's timing is amazing. It appears with TV ratings down across the board, TLC is content with her one million draw. It also appears there is hesitation to cancel much if anything on TLC because what would be the replacement? As long as there is interest in the kids growing up, TLC will air yearly specials. She's got it made until college time and I suspect she hopes a few of the kids will maintain interest in filming as adults as long as she makes $$$, a la Kardashian. I have accepted the filming will continue because she is scandal proof.
I guess we'll have to watch Twitter for a mention of where Kate turns up next. I don't think she went to DWTS, someone would have likely tweeted about it.
Given the timing it would almost have to be a Thanksgiving themed episode if TLC is filming. I have my fears that she is going to push the dating aspect of the show and really hope she didn't fly the kids out to "meet the new man and his family" over the holidays. She's got something up her sleeve though.
Given the hastily added "blind date" after Jeff Prescott bailed on the Labor Day filming it would seem she is intent on sticking with a new man being a main story line. If that is the case then having an episode filmed that incorporates both the new man and the kids that will air with or shortly after the December specials makes sense from a ratings perspective. The timeline makes sense too in that she meets him at the first of September, they date for almost three months (that would explain her relative twitter silence lately), and then she decides he could be the one and she introduces the kids to him.
I hope I'm just being paranoid and I'm wrong.
No, there wasn't. They lost me when she did not one but two "Dead Father" dances, and the "Derek is sick" thing. Derek and his partner are sick and injured every year, and they never complain, but they sure do let you know about how injured/sick they are and how they aren't complaining.
Taylor Swift is known for her "who, me" surprised looks whenever she wins an award. I think Bindi has been studying montages of her "surprised moments". You can google them.
Last night I didn't notice any "celeb" audience shots, aside from friends and family of the finalists. There were a bunch on Monday night, including several former contestants. I guess last night was too busy, what with all the contestants from this season, the two locations, etc.
Did anyone else notice that some of the numbers featured all 4 finalists instead of 3, like the Santa's castle thing that had the final 4 pros. I suspect they were filmed before Monday night's elimination.
No, there wasn't.
There have been some dark horses as winners, as well as some unexpected eliminations over the years. Based on how well Nick did the last few weeks, it wouldn't have surprised me if he would have pulled this off. Actually, I was half expecting it.
Alek is a real cutie. He is going to be in Lancaster with the DWTS team. I just may have to go and show him some PA Dutch hospitality! :)
The somewhat interesting skuttlebug I heard is that you're right, NBC did fire him, both because of his comments and because if they kept him on the air they are required by law to give equal airtime to the other candidates. That would be a nightmare, so they had to cut ties.
Then apparently SNL bigwigs went "behind" NBC's back somehow and put him on their show the other week. Rumor has it, NBC exec's are pissed that that happened. That there was some massive disagreement among the big wigs whether that should be allowed. It happened, somehow, but not everyone at NBC was okay with it. They also are required to give equal airtime to the other candidates as a result, but no one has yet explained what that will look like. Lol, you can't make this stuff up!
Right. There may have been rumors about it, or a lot of guessing going on, but if I recall, TLC never came out and said it. That was the media's speculation. TLC isn't the smartest network on the block, but even they wouldn't venture into that territory, especially with all that is going on with that entire family. As far as them bringing Kate back, she may be what she is, but she didn't raise the ire among viewers and the public that the Duggars did. If she had, I imagine there would be the same stink associated with her as with the Duggars.
Not to mention his sister is a judge! In what world does that make for fair judging?
You know, I agree with this, and if her votes would have been way off from the other two, it would have raised some eyebrows. If Carrie Ann and Bruno had given him fives, and she consistently gave him nines and tens, something would have been fishy. But her scores were in line with the scores given by the other two.
That said, how does he always manage to be given the good dancers, the ones who have excellent chances at winning?
--------------------------------
The judges discuss the marks among themselves before they submit them, so Julianne could easily be influencing the other judges. I think the reason they discuss them is because there aren't that many numbers that are given. The scale officially goes from 1 to 10, but 99% of the marks are between 5 and 10. You don't want to have a situation where all the judges think a dance deserves 8.5 and they all round down to 8 (or up to 9). If they're all thinking 8 to 9 ish, they'll agree among themselves that some will go up and some down, so the average is about right. Also, I imagine there is peer pressure. If someone wants to give a couple a 9 and someone else wants to give them a 6, one will probably change his/her mark (or maybe both, to a 7 and an 8, so it looks better).
I am not a fan of Derek, and I do believe he gets better contestants than Tony, say, but they're not all obvious gems to start with. He had Amber Riley, who was quite overweight, and he had Amy Purdy, who has artificial limbs (below the knees) and did well with them. But generally his partners are young and have something else going for them (Amy's an athlete and Amber a singer). I believe his oldest partner was Jennifer Gray, who was thin and fit, not all that old, and a sentimental favorite because she starred in Dirty Dancing.
He really is a master at showcasing his partners and hiding their weaknesses. That is, he's a master at creating the illusion that his partners can dance, which is not quite the same as teaching them to actually dance. And he's the master of manipulating the audience's sympathies, such as by the repeated injury/illness but not complaining schtick.
Also, I think high-profile desirable contestants like Jennifer Gray ask for him as a partner, because they know they'll have a good chance to win with him.
AuntieAnn said...
Because, like PJ says, it's 'the Derek Hough Show". Sort of like 'Beat Bobby Flay"...chances are Bobby takes the win nine times out of ten.
----------------------------
Yes, he'll be back.
DWTS has two seasons a year, and Britian's Strictly Come Dancing has one. In the fall, the seasons coincide or majorly overlap. Len and Bruno judge on both shows, so have to fly back and forth between London and LA every week. Len decided it was just too hard. Strictly is more his "cup of tea" than DWTS is, and his home is in England, so he chose to sit out this season of DWTS and do Strictly.
He'll be back next season when he won't have to do all that traveling. The pattern may repeat itself next year, depending on which show(s) is/are renewed and his health.
Yes, they're very grounded, intelligent and well spoken. I was impressed when Don jr. said his dad made them get jobs in spite of their wealth and start at minimum wage just like anyone else starting at the bottom rung. They all seem to appreciate their place in life and there was none of the arrogance you might expect from 'rich kids'. Trump issued a statement. He said he had absolutely no idea the reporter was disabled and in fact has never even seen him before. He says other media say he has met him in the past but he says if I have I have no recollection of it. His waving his arms around had nothing to do with the reporter being disabled. He said waving his arms was to mock a *flustered" backpedaling reporter, not a disabled reporter and that he has tremendous respect for the disabled.
Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...
I don't like the way he freaked out on Megan Kelly, but I never believed he meant to talk about Megan Kelly's period. Trump is not one to beat around the bush. If he wants to talk about her being on the rag he'll say she was on the rag, period. No pun intended. He was using an analogy people use when talking about someone out to get them. Out for blood, etc.
I watched the Trump video, and do most disabled people look like that? That's an odd impersonation of a disabled person. But when someone wants to say someone is flustered, they wave their hands around much like Trump was doing. Did he SAY anything about the disability? Is their proof he is even aware of this reporter's disability?
I believe him for many reasons, and one of which is when Trump wants to say something he doesn't do it slyly. He owns it. If he wants to make fun of someone for being disabled he's going to do so clearly and on the up and up. That's just Trump. Frankly, I think people are chomping at the bit to take everything he says out of context. This one is a real stretch, watch the video. Why not discuss the issues? He provides plenty of other material without trying to misrepresent something he said or did.
"Somebody at the financially failing and totally biased New York Times said that, over the years, I have met Mr. Kovaleski. Despite having one of the all-time great memories I certainly do not remember him," the candidate added.
Trump said that in his speech at the rally "I merely mimicked what I thought would be a flustered reporter trying to get out of a statement he made long ago. If Mr. Kovaleski is handicapped, I would not know because I do not know what he looks like. If I did know, I would definitely not say anything about his appearance."
Seems to me that saying "he's pathological in his denial of any wrongdoing" would naturally lead to posters sharing their thoughts about the veracity of other political candidates. That's generally how discussions work - the sharing of different opinions often moves the conversation beyond the original topic. Happens here all time. IMO of course.
It just wasn't that clear to me. Not by a long shot.
The reporter has a joint disorder. The only photo or video of this particular reporter I can find does not show a man who throws around his arms wildly or is rolling his eyes. Rather, one of his arms is rather shriveled. That's it.
Trump, while talking about a reporter being flustered and backpeddling, waved his hands around and I think rolled his eyes. I think his "you gotta see this guy" was a figure of speech--because what was clear to me was he was directly referencing how the reporter was vacillating about his 2001 9-11 story. He never mentioned the reporter was disabled, he never made any other reference to the disability, and he is insisting he either does not know the guy or if he met him doesn't remember him. Even if he has the best memory in the world, he's met likely thousands of reporters right now so I wouldn't expect even someone with a great memory to remember him. Or, if he did meet him, there's no guarantee he would know WHO he was, that this was the same guy whose 2001 article he is talking about. Unless it's an opinion piece, reporters don't usually put their picture next to their article. And if he did, I don't know that you could see his arm.
And, quite unlike Trump who usually stands by the jabs he would like to make, he issued quite a lengthy statement, unusual for Trump, saying that absolutely is not what happened. That's just not Trump's style when he wants to say or do something crass.
I guess I think of it this way...why would Trump want to alienate such a powerful lobby? That's pretty stupid even for Trump.
I guess because I'm Italian and tend to talk with my hands, I too have often waved my hands a little when talking about myself or someone else being flustered. That's the "flustered" sign in Italian! lol. The movement, in connection of the direct context of what he was talking about at the very moment he made the movement (the reporter being flustered), made sense to me. Sometimes things just are what they are. This has actually made me think twice about doing that. I wouldn't want it to be seen as mocking anyone.
What happens when stuff like this gets stretched and pulled to fit a certain scenario, is Trump supporters just get more dogged. It plays right into Trump's hands. He wants to be the victim the media is relentlessly pounding. And this time, he kind of has a point. There's many reasons Trump is absolutely soaring in the polls, and that's one of them. This will not hurt him one bit.
There is a difference between "I was thoughtless and wrong but I didn't mean to cause offense" and "It's all your fault for misinterpreting me. Poor me."
Well, there's where I agree. He doesn't handle these misunderstandings well, and because it's Trump and he doesn't often listen to the question carefully or think carefully about what he is saying, and often struggles to find the right word and will run his mouth when he can't, he often gets misinterpreted. That's exactly what I believe happened with Megan Kelly. He was searching for the phrase out for blood, I believe, and couldn't find it, and so just started talking about blood. And it went downhill from there. If he doesn't like that he needs to slow down a little, listen carefully, pause if he needs time to collect his thoughts or remember the word or words he's looking for. He doesn't want to do that.
He should be contrite even if he doesn't want to be. Even if he doesn't believe it, he should say you know I saw the video and I see why people thought that, and I'm deeply sorry if anyone got hurt. It was not a thought in my head to mock the disabled and I'm sorry it came across that way.
That said, just because he doesn't want to act contrite doesn't make what some people think he did true.
From the NY Times: “Now the poor guy, you ought to see this guy,” Mr. Trump said, before jerking his arms around and holding his right hand at an angle. “ ‘Ah, I don’t know what I said! I don’t remember!’ ”
The reporter says he's met Trump 12-14 times and was on a first name basis with him. And that there's no way Trump wasn't aware of him or his disability. This reporter isn't some stringer - he's pretty well-known in NY.
That is like saying that every time someone points out something controversial Katie said and starts a discussion it should immediately be followed up with someone else saying well Jon did and said too ???
