Discussion thread: Kate Plus 8 'Florida Fun'

Kate Plus 8

Florida Fun6:00 PM on TLC, 1 hr 3 min 2015 TV-PG
The gang is still in Florida, where some of the kids go deep-sea fishing, but their adventure is cut short by seasickness. Later, Mady and Cara look up recipes to cook the family dinner; and the kids have fun on their first trip to a water park.

Seriously, this is proof positive this "MOTHER" is not like the rest of us. Who does this? Who? Who would take these kids out deep sea fishing after the last time? An evil entity that does not have the DNA of a human being. She is EVIL. The spawn of Satan. There are truly evil entities in this world. You cannot explain it away with being a victim herself, or she really suffers from low self esteem, she's this, she's that. There is no excuse. Call a spade a spade. She is what she is. She hasn't made an effort to change or see her evil ways, she enjoys this PLUS the perk of MONEY!!

Milo? What the F does it matter WHO Mady was calling stupid. "You're stupid" whether to Kate, the other children, the instructors, or the pope himself, was rude and inappropriate. As far as her excuse the game was high stress, so was Exit Game that I played and sometimes we got stuck and sometimes someone tried an idea that didn't work. But no one ever put the other person down. Lots of people face high stress situations without becoming nasty, I have no idea why Kate isn't one of them and I can only suggest lots of therpy.

I couldn't agree more, Admin. The point is that it doesn't matter WHO Mady was directing it to, it is something you don't do!! Very disrespectful, rude and chilling, because it sounds like she is talking just like her mother does in private.

Redbird (#5), and if M was indeed stressed and frustrated, then that could have been a "teachable moment" for her mother. TFW could've acknowledged that M was uptight, but that they all had to work together to get out, and that they should remember to be kind to each other in the process. But TFW
is not that kind of parent, is she?

That's right. Another opportunity blown. It's fine to feel stress during that activity but there are much healthier ways to deal with it. Mady is still a child who needs guidance on how to deal with such things. She is obviously not getting it from Kate.

I think both comments were nasty and uncalled for.

Which brings me to another point in that is that Kate esculates Mady and contributes to her stress instead of helping to bring her back down. That's inexcusable. Had Kate not said who died and left you in charge, Mady may never have barked, you're stupid.

US Weekly has a clip of tonight's show. It shows Aaden getting sick when they were on the boat.

http://www.usmagazine.com/entertainment/news/kate-gosselins-son-aaden-gets-seasick-on-kate-plus-8-watch-w159764

Kate tells the kids that if they don't think about it they won't get sick. She says "it's mostly mind over matter, honestly".

Then she says how she came prepared. She brought vomit bags, ginger ale, extra shirts and beach towels. WTF?

Why didn't she give them Dramamine or something similar?

She's really despicable thinking that the kids can just will away seasickness. It that what she's tell them when they're sick at other times, too?

That really is vile. It's not scientific either, you can't just will seasickness away. Geez. There is an element of when you see or hear one person vomit you then vomit, but that's not a "mind" thing, that's evolution. We are programmed that if one person in the tribe is vomiting, you all probably ate the same mammoth, so it was probably bad and you should all vomit. Any doctor will tell you this.

Even if it WAS mind over matter, what is the harm in giving them preventative medicine just in case? NONE.

FlimsyFlamsy said... 19

Well, what with TFW willing herself out of post-partum depression, I guess she's an expert on mind over matter. She's a horrible excuse for a mother.

Oh, and I'm sure it was someone behind the scenes who told/reminded TFW to bring those supplies.
If Mama wants to fish, Mama's gonna fish -- her kids' needs always come second, if not third, or last.

Just saw the clip.
There isn't enough damage control in the world to make that right.
She's an idiot for believing that you can will away motion sickness. The horizon helps, but it's cause is neurologically complex, which is why medication helps to mitigate.
Knowing the kids have repeatedly become motion sick, it's irresponsible to not provide medication prior to boarding.
Having a clean shirt is helpful, but prevention is key and the fact that Kate sat there as their mother and caretaker, telling them basically it's THEIR OWN FAULT if they get sick, is well, SICK.

The fact that these pre-teens are still being filmed and shown on television vomiting is abusive.
There's not way to make her allowing that to be shown anything less than abusive.
I don't care if the boys can laugh about it.

TLC probably told Kate to ramp up the drama the way she did with Jon. History will repeat itself. I can see it now -- Mady will pack up and move out on her and then Kate will prey on her next victim. As long as TLC keeps filming Kate will be all in for it.

FYI said... 23

Couple of comments from the US Weekly article;

"Kate is such a female dog. This isn't the first time she's dragged those poor kids out on a boat and they've gotten sick. It's not 'mind over matter'. It has to do with equilibrium. Buy them Sea-Bands or give them dramamine. Better yet, stop setting up situations you know will humiliate them just so you can have a 'talking point' on your stupid and undeserved show."

"Coming from a person who gets sea sick, it is not mind over matter, especially when you are that young. She lacks the empathy/sympathy gene. Ugh."

I wonder how her fans are going to react. They'll probably praise Kate because she came "prepared".

Exactly.

She knows. She's on notice.

To know full well your kids are going to be uncomfortable to the point of vomiting and not provide them all the relief they need including meds or not making them go in the first place, is simply unforgivable and definitely sadistic. There is something very wrong with her.

And again, are the kids going along because they WANT to tough out the vomiting or because they fear making her upset if they say they don't wanna go?

Tucker's Mom said... 51

Kate carefully spelled out what she took; towels, shirts, ginger ale. No mention of dramamine during her couch interview (with as many takes to get it right as it took) or on the boat.

So much of this is preventative. We all stayed hydrated on our deep sea adventures. Everyone. At all times. Tons of water and yes, beer for some hearty souls ;-)
The kids all had plentiful water, ginger ale and food.

Just because I know Kate will read this, get Gin Gins the next time and give the kids dramamine an hour before they board.

Yes, they might get drowsy and yes, that might make lousy tv, but at least they might just get through the sea adventures without hurling.

If you could just will away vomiting, no one would suffer from morning sickness.

I would like to see Duchess Kate will away her vomiting so severe she was hospitalized.

Like so many have said there's so many things going on in the brain when it comes to vomiting (it's in your brain Kate, not your stomach), it's very unlikely you can will any of it away other than very minor, minor tummy aches. I mean you don't sit there and picture yourself hurling, that probably doesn't help, but to expect 11 year olds to have that kind of control is so unfair.

-----------------------------
As one who suffers from motion sickness, I absolutely agree. I was violently car-sick as a child, but have mostly avoided it in adulthood. Sitting in the front seat is good, driving is even better. And never, ever try to read in a moving car; even be careful about reading a map or directions.

My daughter is also prone to motion sickness, so we both get the front seat on winding roads. She has a X-terra, with "stadium seating" (back seats higher than front), and it's amazing how much of a difference being able to see out the front windshield makes.

Both of us have been sick as dogs on two-hour ferry rides, but fortunately not at the same time. Once, one of us was sick before she could even get out of the car and before the ferry left the dock; the car's springs exaggerated the motion of the ferry.

It is definitely not something that can be prevented by wishing it away.

I am just thrilled for them that the movie did so well. That's the first time I heard that. So wonderful.

He was the one telling me during the game good job, you're doing great, keep it up! He never said who died and put you in charge, or shut up.

I guess maybe Kate (and/or TLC?) is no longer buying Twitter followers. Looks like she only gained around 50 from 8 p.m., an hour prior to her show, to right now (midnight EST). Unless Twitter is broken, I don't think that bodes well for ratings. Tweets were down by about 35-40% from last week, too.

Anchors aweigh, Katie, you just might be on your final voyage. Or so we hope.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 71

The 11 year olds might not be old enough to make a good decision about getting on a boat that's going to make them vomit.

Kids that age don't always have foresight or make healthy choices for themselves. It's much easier for a kid not to remember how bad their vomiting was last time they got on the boat. Or to just not think about the consequences. Kids that age are too in the moment. Kate, they have an 11 year old's brain, not a 27 year old's. It's not the same brain.

This is another decision that should not have been in their hands to make. They're just not old enough yet. An adult decides to tough out some vomiting and go to work. Not a child.

I have a question for Kate. Does SHE decide whether a sick child will go to school even if he wants to tough it out? Because she should be the one making that decision. She needs therapy and a parenting class.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 72

One last time, because it can't be asked enough, are the kids going along because they WANT to tough out the vomiting or because they fear making her upset if they say they don't wanna go?

I think these kids take on her burdens and are parentified, and I think many of them feel an unhealthy obligation to not upset her, to please her, to appease her. Any decisions they make are biased in favor of pacifying Kate. That's not a level playing field. I don't care how much a kid wants to go on a ship and vomit, if he's doing it for Kate, that was not a good decision.

One last time, because it can't be asked enough, are the kids going along because they WANT to tough out the vomiting or because they fear making her upset if they say they don't wanna go?

====

We may have to wait for some of the G8's tell-all books to come out to find out whether or not it was their choice to film certain things or if they were threatened into it.

Kate has lied and lied again and even when she's caught in a lie, she'll lie to cover that lie. It's a bone deep disease with her. I don't believe a word that falls out her mouth.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is coming out on Friday, actually late Thursday night. The embargo on reviews lifts TONIGHT! Major Fangirl Squeeeeee!!!! If the movie is half as entertaining as Carrie Fisher s interviews accompanied by her dog Gary, it's going to be great! Carrie says it's a great movie and I trust her judgement! Cannot wait!
True confessions, in 1977 I was in college, saw Star Wars with friends and was mesmerized. It was like nothing I had ever seen before! I kept finding more friends to go with me to more showings. It was the first time I ever went to a movie alone, when I ran out of people to go with. I saw it seven times in the first three months. I still think the first one is the best one, and can passionately argue with those who favor Empire Strikes Back.
Reality tv does not have the capacity to make imaginations take flight and embrace all the fantastic possibilities life holds and all the optimism of the belief in a wonderful future.
Squee! Star Wars, Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, New characters! Cute robots! Big explosions!
All I need now is a DVD of Mad Max Fury Road for Christmas, and life will be compete! Charlise Theron should get an Oscar nomination for her role as Furiosa.

I hope the kids let her deiced what kind of old folks home she'll go to.

Or the kids will let her deiced if she was to tough it out all alone in her mcmansion with-not-a-body guard.

Let's see her "mind over matter" that one. Then I'll watch.

She's sadistic and evil.

Those kids do not want to anger mommy. It's as simple as that. There was no choice about deep sea fishing...it was go or make mommy mad, and we know what that is like, right?

Of course, Steve was there, blue shirt as always. Was she rockin' her bikini in front of him on this trip? You bet. Interesting that TLC is hiding him. Must be their attempt to make people forget there is already a man in her life, therefore the blind date scenario because the kids want her to date and she's soooooo lonely. Bleh.

Another cool thing about Dolly Parton is that she started a non-profit 20 years ago called Imagination Library, which supplies kids in Tennessee with a new free book every month. It grew to an international program, and has now supplied more than 60 million books to kids who might not otherwise have them!

Dolly knows the importance of books, and fostering the love of reading in children, no matter what their family's income level is.

I think about how she chastised Jon for breathing too loudly, the punishments for climbing out of cribs. Gauging by her history of appropriate punishments (a very long list) what would be the punishment for an adult taking children out on a boat in rocky water with cameras for the world to witness - knowing they would vomit? Kate lies with such ease it's mind boggling. She tweeted that when the kids were getting sick on the boat and she was in the middle of reeling in a fish and didn't stop to care for the kids it was because "the fisherman wouldn't take the rod" and "she felt so bad". That is an outright lie. I live in Florida and my hubby and I have been on many deep sea fishing trips. The deckhands on the boat are more than happy to take over for you if you ask. I can't believe how she lies about things that are so easily proven to be false.

From a "nurse" who had 3 coffee makers by her bed, multiple temper tantrums...sorry the adult phrase, melt downs; and no contact with anyone from extended family, her advice To her children prone to seasickness is "get over it."

FlimsyFlamsy said... 105

It sounds like last night's show was just the
G family doing water activities. That's not a
slice-of-life peek into the world of raising twins and sextuplets -- it's a freaking travelogue.
And, yes, she blamed the seasick 11-year-olds for making poor choices that she, a nurse, should have made for them.

Didn't TFW claim years ago that she wasn't "waterish?" And yet now she claims to spend her entire summer submerged in her family pool, and says she loves deep sea fishing more than life itself.

Winsomeone said... 106

The kids wore Sea Bands, but I think that's like trying to push back the ocean when you know damn well that your kids get severe motion sickness.
The kids' level of motion sickness is as bad as it gets. Not a little nausea. They need medicine PREVENTATIVELY in order to avoid getting so ill that they vomit over and over again, and then get so wiped that they pass out for awhile.
I really think Kate doesn't want the kids to be drowsy and sleeping during filming.
To wit- literally smacking a couple kids awake because they had the audacity to sneak to the back of the bus to pass out after an entire day of filming in triple digit heat.

Did anyone else see the clip of the mini golfing w/ the older girls? They showed and shot video up the girls short shorts. Do you realize that means even if it wasn't all shown in the clip, someone edited and got a full view of whatever. That is criminal for a mother to allow the abuse of her girls that way. What about the friend's parents. I would be an end to that friendship pronto. People get arrested to videoing up woman's skirts. http://www.tlc.com/tv-shows/kate-plus-8/videos/mini-golf/?mkcpgn=fbtlc5&utm_source=facebook.com&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=KatePlus8

Admin - do you have a way to notify Jon of this important information? As a parent, it is up to him to protect the girls, if she is not and she is creating these situations.

SarahK said... 166

I didn't watch the episode or any clips, but from reading comments here and on various sites, it sounds like she is getting more psychotic/pathological as time goes by. This woman needs more than a few parenting classes. No mother with an ounce of maternal instinct throws her kids out there, knowing that they are prone to seasickness. Dramamine doesn't always work, and I've found those bands not to be effective.

Motion/seasickness is many times worse than labor in childbirth! I've experienced both, and Kate has absolutely no clue how horrible it is to be sick on a boat. Something is seriously wrong with her, and I just wish that somebody could take the bull by the horns and demand that she get a psych evaluation and help with whatever is going on with the misfiring in her brain. I hope it's not too late.

She tweeted that when the kids were getting sick on the boat and she was in the middle of reeling in a fish and didn't stop to care for the kids it was because "the fisherman wouldn't take the rod" and "she felt so bad". That is an outright lie.

she didn't do anything because SHE.DOES.NOT.CARE.

She sees NOBODY, least of all her kids. They appear magically when she needs her narc fix. She was in her glory with that rod in her hand and the camera on her.

I didn't think it was that bad. There were no views of "whatever", including no underwear, and I don't see how there could have been, unless the girls took their shorts off. The shorts were so snug that it would be almost impossible to take video "up" them.

I checked back in the archives for the ratings of all the season 1-2 (2010-2011), and there were only 4 episodes out of 25+ that scored below 1M. There was one with 874,000, one with 681,000, one with 938,000, and with 907,000. All the others were between 1M and 3.4M. It looked like it averaged around 1.3 to 1.4M.

Of course, times have changed at TLC. They used to have several shows that pulled in 2M+ per episode, so K+8's numbers were low compared to the rest. Now, of course, they have very few shows that pull in that kind of audience. They probably figured that they would keep K+8 if it could maintain 1M, which it did up until now. This season, however, I bet there will not be a single episode that brings in over 1M. And this is a very expensive show for them to produce. You don't see the other TLC families getting so many expensive trips and home improvements. Low ratings and high production costs will sink any show.

What I don't understand is, why--when the ratings were dropping steadily and just barely above 1M, did TLC decide to shoot 8 more episodes? What moron decided that was a good idea?

Yes, from ground level, or from the mini-golf hole. They didn't straddle it, and no crotches or underwear was shown. I was just watching figure skating, and the figure skating videos are much more "racy" and "revealing" than the video was. And yes, figure skating does involve 15 year old girls, and some teens who look much younger than their actual age. I think the TLC people were trying to be clever, not prurient.

WOW! The ratings were down approx. 250,000. That is fantastic. I only hope it was not because of the debates. But I think the ratings were down because the show is not interesting and also the people who were reminded of her show before the first new episode (because of her TV interviews) forgot about her show this week. Of course, that statement does not include her fans who will always watch. Also the loyal TLC fans watched her just because that is the channel they like. And of course she always draws a crowd from her detractors who do not like her and tune in to see what a bitch she is. But as her downward ratings decline all those that tuned in yesterday are probably not enough to sustain a series of Kate Plus Eight.

I watched on demand. A few observations. First, it was nice to see Collin smile! And he and Hannah were partners in the sandcastle event and got along well. Sadly Leah and Joel had a fight. And H punched another boy. Mady was negative for most parts, but enjoyed making dinner, it seemed. She said she is good at making frozen food like pizza pockets, hmm. There was one odd couch scene where she had on a lot of makeup??

Kate made the kids go deep sea fishing because she enjoys it but only now has begrudgingly taken the kids to a water park since she dislikes them. (didn't they go to a kiddie one in J+K once ?) Anyhow, Kate took credit for that chocolate pudding painting they did back in OBX days and I think originally she said it was someone else's idea. Kate 'showered and changed" the younger kids. And said again life would be a beach if they lived on one. Overall quite boring and repetitive.

Amanda said that one of the girls kicked one of the boys (I did not watch) and acted like it was nothing. I think most if not all of those kids have behavior problems. And I think the root of it comes from the fact from age 18 months through their formative years (to year 5) it is a FACT that Kate was not home a lot at all or if she was she was home she was a FILMING a freaking tv show. And of course on weekends during their formative years she was on weekends going to churches to pad her wallet instead of spending time with her 8 very small kids. How could she or even Jon possibly discipline her kids during that time? That is when the kids learn the ground rules. Also the kids take after their mother who freaks out over anything and everything. They learned it from her. Then from age 5 comes the separation, divorce, DWTS, the paps, Kate admittedly being gone 50% of the time and more and more filming. What a mess. Than after the divorce we have the kids visiting Jon who had a totally different way of disciplining the kids and this happened with zero communication between the parents. Divorced parents need to communicate with each other. That is why all of these kids do not act properly. And by proper I am saying that Kate continually refers to them fighting with each other over the stupidest stuff. And we see it with our own eyes on our screens. That is not normal at all. Dang, Kate was thrilled that they had the same van in episode one so the kids knew where to sit and therefore they did not fight. WHAT? Eleven and fourteen years old siblings have to fight over who sits where in a van. That is crazy.

Also add in the fact that all of the kids are spoiled. PERIOD. They have been raised by TLC funding their lifestyle. Kate should have told the kids nicely that they did not need those headrests in the luggage store. But of course TLC was footing the bill so what does she care.

I saw the golf clip and I didn't see anything wrong with the shots. Yes, they technically shot up the girls shorts but it showed nothing at all. The shorts were too tight to view anything. I think it turned out that way was they were filming the ball.

The most important thing is the clip was boring as usual. These kids are typical 15 years. In fact they are probably more boring than most 15 year olds. The only thing interesting about the twins at all is Mady being a bitch. I said "interesting" that is ALL. If Mady was behaved the twins would be 100% boring for TV viewing purposes.

I think TLC is still with this family because in a few years all eight will be in their teen years and that will bring tons of drama. How will Kate deal with that? Alot of people will be interested in what they have to say as adults and how they turned out. And of course they will be dating, proms, college, marriages, children, etc. The Duggar show really gained in viewership when their three kids (Josh, Jill, and Jessa) started dating, married, and raising kids.

Also I think they gave Kate 8 episodes because of the Duggars being cancelled. Who knows, I think Kate promised TLC she would date during this season and that is why they may have given her a season to explore that. But after viewing her "fake date" and Jeff bowing out they saw what a drag and uninteresting person she is as a dater and therefore only filmed that one dating show. In fact when TLC signed Kate up for this season she may have been dating Jeff and they wanted to explore that. Of course that never happened and they were forced to film the kids in 7 of the 8 episodes.

Eee--ghads. I remember the first few times the show dipped under a million and most of us were predicting it was done. We were right.

But like you said, it's a different time. Will this be enough to keep her on the teat? I don't know, but I have a hard time believing it would be. Those numbers are awful even for cable.

I would be so embarrassed if I were Kate. This big comeback was an absolute flop. No one is interested.

And no, I don't think the debates played much of a role. I can't picture a sheeple being interested in civics.

I think sKate was cancelled the first time because of her behaviour. I don't know that numbers factored into it. The numbers were a lot higher than they are now. I think she was just that miserable to work with. Maybe the crews were all refusing to work with her? They ended with the RV trip and everyone saw what a barrel of laughs that was.

She actually looked chagrined when she said later on that she'd like another chance to "hit it out of the park".

I think they fired her sorry ass because of her attitude. Now, she's back at bargain basement prices and she still slips up in the nasty department.

Yes, sKate, you've been marked down.
