Another clip from the episode.

TLC is heavily promoting this episode. I wonder if the ratings for this one will determine whether they will continue to film the show.

Is Dianna divorced?

Fleecing The Sheeple said... 3

Maybe for his sake it should have been a deaf date as well as a blind date. Tie a scarf around his eyes and give him ear plugs and just let him sit back and enjoy his meal.

I'm not watching the show, but I wonder how her table manners were on this date.

JTN said... 4

TLC can promote it all they want, but methinks if the ratings go up, it only to see who the unlucky victim, err date, happens to be.

Wowser said... 5

Disheveled and nervous? She has no handle on the English language....I've never seen anyone who claims to be a writer and English their favorite subject screw it up so badly...she just had bobble head Deanna glam her up and used the word disheveled....way to insult your make up artist and paid friend.

Wowser said... 6

I tried to watch...couldn't take more than 15 minutes.

I thought children of divorced parents usually hope the parents reunite? Why would a parent whine in front of her children about her lack of a man in her life? Why burden your kids with this when it's the parent's issue? Not watching that clip because I think those kids have mixed feelings and still suffer from a sense of loss. All Kate wants is to introduce another adult figure into the household and film it.

jamezvader1194 said... 8

I don't mind Kate dating but the only thing that'd piss me off is that her fans (like milo)would refer to Kate's new boyfriend or husband as the kids new father and try to say hes the 1 true dad they have.Thats the only thing that would piss me off

Shouldn't a professional makeup artist look fashionable? A little more cutting edge, modern, stylish?
Just saw a clip, not watching the show - Deanna's hair, her lack of style, I would never guess her to be a paid makeup artist.

Kids are usually all over the place about divorce. Some are fine with it, some are not. Some want parents to get back together, some are fine with things. Some are fine with dating, some struggle with it. I get the sense based on the children's own comments they are okay with the divorce and most have moved on. I think it was Mady who even flat out said she wants Kate to find someone. I think in many ways divorce can be much easier if it happens early in your childhood instead of later.

But it's without a doubt no kid needs to be burdened with their parent's dating woes. That's not appropriate under any circumstances to involve your children so heavily in that. But then Kate rarely acts in an appropriate manner around her children.

She looked Duggar-ish to me in the last recap. Ankle length skirt? Huh?

Met a lot of those make-up artists around here, and hip leather jackets rule the day.

@Kateplusmy8 sound like me on dating..I ended up marrying the 6th person I ever dated! LOL Just 5 guys ahead of him. I was lucky! #GoodMan

LOL!! I bet those other five are now breathing a sigh of relief that they were the ones who managed to escape from the meddling eyes of Kravitz!

I wonder how LOM feels about being the one with whom she ended up. #Good man because he has resigned himself to the fact that she's in love with a woman and he just ignores her celebrity worship obsession. Does he feel lucky because he wears the slacks in the family and she obeys his 11 p.m. lights out orders?

I see that Brownie came out from hiding to tweet!

Wow. Her acne is bad. Why isn't she using something from a dermatologist? Her hair and makeup didn't look great at all.

Wanna bet Steve was in the limo?

When they just met she said this was awkward and she said in the voiceover she said it was awkward with HER camera crew.

Do you believe that Kate has not rode in a helicopter in NYC before this date? Please let me sell you the Brooklyn Bridge.

She said the helicopter was an ODD icebreaker.

Well, if you can afford it.

The look on his face when she asked him about being single and 8 kids-less was like DANNNNNGGG!

He has dodged a huge bullet by locking his Twitter!

OT-Netflix recommendation.

Excellent series on Netflix. "Occupied." It's partly subtitled, made in Norway. I'm used to the subtitles, and have seen some very good series. If you don't like subtitles, let me just say, you're going to miss a terrific program. I'm seldom disappointed in the foreign films.

I don't know. Mady may say she is fine with a stepdad until the disruption of having this person actually move in. Since she does not respect her mother, the same will be true for any man Kate were ever to marry, and that will create tension between everyone. Of course, if it's tension, I suppose that works for a reality show. Maybe that is the end game.

My narcissist has a gaggle of ex's and their standard statement is we're good friends and forever family and we get along swimmingly, thanks for asking.

I know for a fact behind closed doors that's absolutely not true. There was a period where they were in such discord they couldn't even sit together at a darn baseball game. There were many other things that happened that proved that statement to be an utter lie and in fact still is.

But, it's a lie I totally understand. They have sense enough to just bite their tongue and just play nice in anything the public might possibly see and in turn, the children.

Kate could suck it up buttercup and just be nice about Jon. Always. No exceptions. No snide remarks about settling and all the other BS she spews. If one narcissist could do it for the children, so can she.

Jeanne said... 19

I think the kids remember enough of how Jon and Kate interacted (or now see them interact) to not want them back together. But I do not see Kate managing a relationship with a smart, successful man. She would need to hold a conversation that does not revolve around the kids and she would have to pay attention to him sometimes. How is it you managed to not end up with 8 kids? What kind of garbage is that?

The guy at least has some tact, saying he enjoyed meeting her.

redbird said... 20

In the eonline clip, Deanna says that she met him at a charity function.

I guess that means he's a "charity" date for Kate.

&&&&

I kind of believe that Deanna met him at some event and hoodwinked him into doing this.

Based on his hobbies he seems like the type of guy up for anything. Just an all around "cool" guy who is game to try new things even ridiculous things and isn't afraid to look stupid. Dating an older woman with kids, sure why not. Book smart and well rounded but not always astute to a woman manipulating him.

Deanna did good finding him actually. He's exactly the type that would fall for this.

I actually think you can tell quite a bit from someone's social media presence. Look at Kate's.

This was heavily scripted. Do not believe it was an innocent setup facilitated by Deanna! TLC gave her a script.Deanna did not know this guy from Adam. Look at her body language. And really who talks like that when introducing a "friend" (cough) to a potential victim...I mean boyfriend. That was scripted, cameras rolling.
Think how you would act, you would have told each party long before the date, the reasons why you felt them compatible. Why was Deanna there at all? To make the audience buy it, and to make Kate appear more human, (her caring friend).

I don't mean older than him. I mean older in the sense of a fertile woman.

Usually, men who haven't settled down yet are looking for someone 30 or so, who can bear them two or three kids without hundreds of thousands in fertility treatments. That's not going to be Kate.

Maybe he doesn't want kids, I have no idea, but he's definitely dating against type for a first-timer i.e. hasn't been divorced with kids that we know of, etc.

The way she was dressed for the date reminded me of when she was running down the sidewalk with the ice cream cones - she looked like a hooker. The skirt was way too short; a plain dress with the hemline just above the knee would have made a better impression for a 40 year old. Her makeup and horrible hair added to the 'tart' look. She never knows when to shut up and listen, she kept speaking over her date, waving her hands around like a mad woman.

Would "playboy" be a word for it? Single and loving it?

And it doesn't involve settling down with a balls-grabbing woman with eight kids who is filmed going back to school shopping at a rural PA mall?

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 47

Shall we debate will you or won't you tonight?

A date on a Tuesday night, you go girl!

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 48

Playboy and single and loving it: exactly.

I've online dated, and you really can get a good sense of a person by their profile and photos, even though it's brief. I can't say I really had any really terrible dates, but that was because I am very careful about which people I go out with. I don't go out with people whose online presence gave me an "off" feeling or "non-compatable" feeling. Playboy vibes would be out, etc.

I probably wouldn't date someone like Vann if he posted photos like he did. I wasn't looking for "playboy" or "single and loving it."

Just a hypothetical example, if someone's profile shows photos of them with family, some friends, a little traveling but not in excess, and maybe doing a reasonable hobby--plus a description of themselves that is well rounded and thoughtful, that says a lot to me. Lots of party photos, drinking and exotic things like deep sea fishing in Belize, not so much.

If you can't sum yourself up and who are you are in one profile you're doing something wrong. If someone is not able to get a good sense of who you are from it, something's wrong, and it may be why you're not getting dates.

What is this guy's name? Somebody mentioned him being outed already. Where was he outed? What is his occupation? I don't think they are a match at all. He would either want to get serious with somebody that can bear him children or he doesn't want any kids. And if he doesn't want any kids I highly doubt he would be interested in her 8 kids and being a step-dad. His parents probably highly encouraged him to cut off contact with her. And I don't care if he is in his early 40's, his parents sound like they are close to him. The very fact that Kate is not close to hers would be a big turn off for this guy.

Boy, I bet he has gotten a load full of Kate Gosselin by now. It seemed he did not truly know much about her before the date. I can just imagne all the stuff people have told him, the artilces he has read, or the videos he has seen. Wait until he sees next week's episode where they show a lot of her bad moments. That ought to be an eye-opener for him.

If they did continue to date at all, I think it was done out of curiosity and not done in a serious manner at all.

Deanna said in the clip, "It is not like ALL the kids are going away on the weekends. You have kids here at all times. You are not getting any time out." She said that in the clip while doing her makeup. This is such bullshit. The woman is alone for close to 9 or more hours five days a week. That is more than 40 hours of alone time in her big house. Total silence if she wants it. Forty hours to do absolutely nothing. What other mothers can say that. Most are off working. And then add in the hours after the kids go to bed every night. And I do believe most of the kids see Jon a lot.And that probably includes a week night too. And shame on Kate for not making ALL the kids visit him. The court ordered it and they are too young to make this major decision themselves.

Kate is the one that wanted the kids. Hell, she knew she would have multiplies too after all those shots. And that was after having twins too. So I don't feels sorry for her at all.

I am so sick of her pity ways. And I read her facebook comments and they are again really blasting Mady again. And there are several comments telling Kate to stop using the word "like" so much.

I saw the episode at 11pm and I guessed it. There was only probably 2 minutes or less of the date shown on TV that was NOT in several of the previews. Shame on TLC. And it was so aggravating. They would show 30 seconds or so of the date and then go back to Kate talking on the couch. And I counted that Kate mentioned her kids SIX times during the date. And that does NOT count the time he asked about them. That is all she has to talk about. No way are they a match. Vann has a B.S., and two master degrees. She does not have any college. I saw his Goodreads very long list of books he has read and he is extremely well-read on politics, philosophy, and numerous other subjects. They are night and day different. And I love it-- his friends on the Naval Academy facebook page are already blasting him for going out with her.

After watching the clip that KIAT posted above with Kate involving the kids in her choice of outfit for her date, I was struck by the complete disorder of her closet. What a mess. She has never really had OCD nor is she in the slightest an organized person. That closet would drive me crazy. I was also struck by the clothes that still had price tags on. Just piecin' n patchin' I guess.

FlimsyFlamsy said... 61

Leslie (#55), I found Deanna's comment about TFW deserving an adult night out utterly disingenuous, too. You mentioned her 9 hours of solitude every day, which I have also brought up in the past. But what about her trips away from home without the kids for work? Leaving for interviews in NYC and staying overnight? Being pampered in a hotel on someone else's dime? No homework, dinner and bedtime to handle on those days, huh? There are real-life single moms who have never, ever had such indulgences, and don't want a freaking medal for raising the kids they intentionally brought into the world.

Oh, and I seem to remember TFW being away from her young kids for a solid month doing Celebrity Apprentice. Guess Deanna has learned how to rewrite history, just like her buddy. Speaks volumes about her. And it's especially phony to me because Deanna directly benefited from this date: salary, screen time, and lots of attention.

FlimsyFlamsy said... 62

In the Us article, it says TFW said there couldn't be a good night kiss because her kids were going to be watching. Where was this concern when she was filmed getting her foot licked in a bar? And then waking up hung over the next morning?

And it said they showed Deanna introducing TFW to Vann, and that it was awkward. Do you really think their initial introduction was on camera? They may have spent an hour together before that scene was shot. The whole night reeks of desperation for ratings and attention.

Leslie said... 63

And what bull that Kate likes water. Didn't she say she can't swim? And she claims she loves to deep water fishing. Gee, how often does she do that. Only twice when it was filmed on TLC and probably never again. She probably knows nothing about it. And she has never been sailing like Vann either. She may have been once on a sailboat but I bet you she knows nothing about it.

And the organization that he likes has zero to do with her organization. I read his job description. And Kate's clothes closet was a mess.I am almost embarrassed for her that she it touting loving organization in this episode and then they show her closet. And by the way their is another closet in the bedroom too. All her shoes were jumbled together too. And she rearranged her bedroom so the bed is on the other wall between the two little windows. She has too much furniture in it. And I saw the big stand that holds her coffee pot. Is that for her to hide out in her bedroom away from her kids?

"I think it’s good for her to put herself out there and find a husband, so she doesn’t die alone," contributed Mady, who was on hand to help her mother pick out an outfit. After finally selecting one, Deanna did Kate’s hair while they discussed how grown-up Mady had become. Kate's focus is always on her kids, after all.

I was waiting for Radar's review!

http://radaronline.com/celebrity-news/kate-plus-8-season-4-kate-gosselin-blind-date/

What a catch! Living in New York City, Vann resides where there is quite literally a man shortage. Despite the plethora of single women to choose from in the Big Apple, Vann decided on none other than Kate Gosselin, mother-of-eight from Pennsylvania (that’s a red flag, ladies).

In any case, Vann and Kate took a helicopter ride over Manhattan, where Kate stuck to worldly topics like, “Oh the Statue of Liberty! I once took a boat around that,” or “I think there was a navy ship I visited in North Carolina.” She pretty much nailed it.

Then, the pair went to dinner at a fancy Italian restaurant in the city. Always the charmer, Kate laid some great lines on Vann the Navy Man. They were sweet nothings every man wants to hear on a first date: “I don’t date” and “I don’t get out of the house much.” No pressure, Vann.

These two had so much fun at dinner that they ordered some dessert and coffee. That’s where things really started to heat up! Just kidding, Kate brought up her kids again and Vann just nodded a lot.

Leslie, what other stuff are the Academy guys saying on Facebook? I can only imagine since I am married to a former military guy myself.

TLC stinks said... 76

The trouble started over Labor Day weekend, when the source says Prescott got cold feet about filming Gosselin's reality show, Kate Plus 8. He ended up canceling production plans just two days before the New York City shoot, after months of planning and preparation.

@@@@@@@

TLC had to work FAST to dig up Vann. What's his connection? I see he does donate (unlike Kate), so maybe it's true Deanna knew him from from charity event.

HAHAHAHA, love this comment from the Daily Mail...

Enoughplease, In the US, United States, 41 minutes ago
Why is she going on blind dates? Because no one knowing it's her would want to, even if they got paid to do it. And why is TLC trying to resurrect this train wreck show?

FlimsyFlamsy said... 78

So Deanna said she told Vann TFW was "a very hot blonde?" Are they high school girls? If I was trying to describe one of my best single girlfriends to a prospective date, I'd say things like, she's warm, smart, compassionate, hilarious,
down-to-earth, etc. Oh, but, wait -- TFW isn't any of those things. Guess Deanna was limited with her adjectives.

Twitter off or not, I still think Lites Out Vann is gonna have a looooong day.

foxy said... 79

At he Italian restaurant when the waiter brought them the first course, he said Bon Appetite, and Kate looks at Vann and said, "isn't that French?". Vann, with a puzzled look on his face, said yes and she said she thought so because her Mady takes French in school. Apparently she thought he should have spoken Italian to her. She really has no education or interests in anything other than herself.

TLC stinks said... 80

Why would this guy agree? Could it be it was literally a charity date? Like his TLC paycheck goes to a charity or TLC makes the donation? This guy does not need the date nor the notoriety. He's a good looking successful guy living in a city of beautiful women. Too bad we may never know. He gave her a cheek peck and Kate thought that was weird...she's weird and not physical at all. Could have been she was uncomfortable with you-know-who guarding the limo.

BTW, my theory: Jeff Prescott was Kate's beard for Steve. And Jeff figured it out.

FlimsyFlamsy said... 81

No one's brought this up yet, so I will!

How has this worldly guy never heard of the famous, amazing, legendary supermom Kate Gosselin? She is a household name! She causes riots at movie theaters, which is why she can't take her kids out! Venues have to shut down when she films! Even celebrities rock her old hair style on the red carpet! How could a star of her magnitude have eluded his notice?

Could it be...wait for it...that's she's really not as big of a deal as she thinks she is?

Sheeple Herder said... 82

I only saw a few minutes of the show and it was where Kate was getting spackled, I mean getting her make up done. When she started lamenting about how she never has time to herself, she misses talking to adults, etc I nearly lost my mind. Stop. Talking. Kate. Anyone with some sense knows the truth.

FlimsyFlamsy said... 83

Funny that TFW felt uncomfortable having Vann kiss her on the cheek goodnight, but seemed to be fine and dandy with a total stranger dropping about a grand on their date. She was trying to act demure, but we know better.

redbird said... 84

What an idiot! She told Vann that there would be no good night kiss because her kids would be watching!

This was just an excuse because she is all in with Steve and this was just to keep filming and show me the money. When they were parting, Steve had to be there behind the camera or inside the limo.

That overhead shot of the limo was a whale!

It is ok for your kids to see you drunk and a man lick your barefoot but not see a nice young man give you a good night kiss because your kids are watching.

Ok. Filbert.

I hope that Vann comes out and says he did Pity Date with Kate so TLC would give a nice donation to his charity. But he probably can't because it maybe a stipulation in the CA.

‘I've gone on less than a handful of dates in history since I’ve been divorced,' Kate, 40, explained at the start of the episode. 'And I’ve never gone on a blind date.’

------------------------------------------------

Any serious blind date would've had to drink themselves "blind" in order to qualify.

No sober, rational guy would seriously want to date TFW; anybody showing up in that stead would have to be play-acting.

JudyK said... 86

Everyone knows I've never been a Kate fan. I've seen a few of her shows in this new lineup and found her to be less than genuine in her couch interviews with the contrived facial contortions.

However, I just don't find fault with her like I used to. Although I thought the newest episodes were beyond boring, I actually enjoyed the one last night and found her to be natural. He's such a nice guy, and I think they could be a good couple. He seems to make her comfortable to just be herself.

Also, that house is clean and those kids are clean, well-dressed, well-fed, and happy. I think Mady is a mouthy brat sometimes, but she's a teenager.

I know you are wondering if this is the same Judy who used to post such negative things about Kate...can hardly believe it myself!

When they were showing the closet, I was surprised that how mediocre and ordinary it was.

Except, the NWT's clothing.

I thought it would be like one of those closets that a decorator had come in and organized it with a wooden cabinets, shelves, necklace organizers, purses, shoes stacked and place neatly.

What is she setting this up for another show idea? Closets and De-Clutter a working title?

Waves to Judy!

The only part I really disagree with strongly is the happy part. The kids are nervous, pent-up, whiny, put upon, negative, parentified, burdened, tired, and have complete control over their parent. I simply do not believe that kind of environment can possibly make a child happy even if that child thinks that's what they want.

I don't think they are happy at all most of the time. They have a heck of a lot of negative emotions they are not able to just release and move on from, for whatever reason. It's a very stressful, unhappy household.

JudyK said... 91

Waving back Adm!

Have to admit I've only watched portions of the shows and that I have been surprised to hear some of the kids being so negatively outspoken. Have also noticed how some of them appear truly depressed during some of their couch interviews.

MikeB said... 92

I think TLC is calling this the finale because it is the last of the shows featuring original content.

Next week's episode is going to consist of Kate looking at scenes from past seasons and then telling the audience what she would do differently now. It is essentially a recap. Kind of like the "Decade of Kate" episode that aired back in the Spring.

The bedrooms look anywhere from meh, to pig stye.

One other point I tend to disagree with and that is that Mady's behavior is just teen behavior. I just don't agree. It's too much, it's too constant, and it crosses the line time and time again. Also, just because someone is being a normal teen doesn't mean they should not be corrected by the adults. For example, Mady telling Kate she is stupid is IMO completely unacceptable behavior that should have been reprimanded firmly.

A clean house does not make a happy home. Better to have it a little messy, but lived in and happy, then immaculate. Plenty of child abusers of the past have kept tidy homes. Plenty of narcissists have kept tidy homes but were not what they should have been to their children. Mine did. Nothing out of place, never any dust, no toys out, no coloring book pages on the fridge. Nothing.

FlimsyFlamsy said... 95

I don't think that will ever be a truly happy household for the G kids until their mother stops
treating their father like an enemy. Just my opinion. When she maligns him, she is dismissing half of her children's DNA. Cruel and unnecessary.

redbird said... 96

If he would of told me "Bon Appetite", I would of repeated it and said, One of my favorite French foods is Vichyssoise.

She could of very easily just repeated it and not said anything else. She really showed how really out of touch she is. Who doesn't know Julia Child and "Bon Appetite"? She made that famous!

I learned what vichyssoise was on the Brady Bunch when Alice went out on a date from a man she went to school with. He was actually trying to scam her for her money. They ate at a French restaurant and the appetizer was vichyssoise. Alice said that vichyssoise was a really fancy name for cold potato soup!

I just loved that scene because I used to make potato soup all the time. The kind that tastes like Shoney's.

Assuming the article about Jeff Millionaire dropping out at the last minute is true (and I think it is), all the activities were planned well in advance of Deanna digging Vann up to play Kate's date. TLC would have needed to make sure their filming was allowed in the places they went.

You can bet that everything Kate did was planned and paid for by TLC and was originally supposed to feature Jeff Millionaire. Vann just took his place at the last minute.

My DH's Match profile did nothing to show me who he really is, and I only responded to his email because I thought he was cute in his pictures. It wasn't until we talked extensively by phone that I decided I was interested enough to meet him in person. Ten happy years later, I'm glad I did decide to meet him. But that decision definitely didn't come from a the few sentences and pictures posted on an online dating site.

And second, try to talk about something or someone other than herself.

On the preview of the show next week, she is going back and changing history again. Collin is in the kitchen crying about his lovey and she is throwing it in the sink and griping.

Then they show her and she said, Oh, it didn't go in the trash! He has it still today, like poo-poo it away, like it was nothing.

I clearly remember on the original airing when this verbal meltdown attack on this little boy was happening, she was jumping up and down, screaming. I haven't been able to find that part. They edited it out. I have said this many times here. The original DVD's that were sold I believe were not edited. It shows TFW in all of her raging, narcissist glory.

He was approached to do a reality tv program and probably thought he would never get that chance again. I think he dated Kate just for the fun and the experience of it. He seems like that type of person. And it was something that he could have on tape the rest of his life.

I don't think he knew what a terrible reputation she had. And I wonder if he is secretly pissed at Deanna for holding back from him. I wonder how long he had from the time he said yes to the filming the episode. He may have signed a contract too fast before he signed up. I bet TLC got him that contract super fast before he could back out. I bet on it! He lives in NY which is close to TLC headquarters in MD.

Your right, MikeB. I posted earlier that when arrangements were being made, JEFF was the date. When he starting smelling a skunk, he bolted.

After TLC got their princess calmed down, they were having the luck of the Irish when Deanna went to a charity event and happened to meet Vann.

Viola, replacement.

But what if the charity event was a bachelor auction? Did Deanna bid and win him for a date and then she told him that he was going out with Kate from Kate Plus 8?

The poster that said that TFW's outfit getting into the helicopter reminded of her NYC ice cream run outfit. The camera shot of showing Deanna, Kate and Vann by the helicopter where you could see her looks exactly like it, but just different colors.

The shoes look like the same ones, though.

Funny, how she said that there would be no goodnight kiss because her kids were watching but when she jumped on the double decker bus to deliver the melted ice cream she shoves the hello out of one or two of the kids back hard.

What a mom!

Why does Kate put up with the very rude intentionally cruel remarks from Mady?
Saw a clip of shopping, At a checkout counter, maybe school shopping. The look on Mady's face, had she been an adult I would say the look was threatening. Her words..mean! Then the look on Kate's face wss defeat, she was clearly holding her tongue. Why?
The queen of slamming doors, driving off in a huff, screaming puts up with vitriol from a teen.
Not one for conspiracy theory, I wonder, is this blackmail?
Mady certainly holds some power in the wreckage that is the broken Gosselin family. Is Kate afraid Mady will tell Jon something? The public?
I agree with others here, Mady's behavior is worrisome.

Thank you editing team for leaving that gem in!!

Ex Nurse said... 117

JudyK, I agree with everything you said.

I think that the first date was very touching. He reminds me of someone I know who also came from the Naval Academy--polite, engaged, genuinely happy to meet just about anyone. And, as Admin said, up for anything. So, as Kate said, maybe he was just being polite, but, from his body language, he seemed interested and genuinely engaged. Awkward as hell, of course! Anything else would have to be scripted and carried out by a skilled actress--which she is not!

I also think that Deanna and Kate have a nice relationship. It does revolve around Kate, but so what, who cares? I am glad she has at least one person left in her life, who is kind and supportive. I do think that Kate is aware of how off-putting she is and is trying to change.

The kids seemed to have a great time making their pizzas. All In all, they are all pretty immature for their ages, compared to my kids at that age, which I think is because they lead a sheltered life--as did Kate.

As far as the content of the conversation, I thought that it was fine that they began a serious discussion about their expectations and ideals of a relationship were. It seemed to have evolved naturally, although, of course it was uncomfortable.

All in all, it was one of the more human portrayals I have seen. It was good to see Kate get out of her comfort zone. There were moments that they seemed very relaxed, and it didn't seem scripted.

He seems like a really good guy, but, who knows if he has the ability or willingness to commit. His history predicts that he won't. But, this could be an example of perfect timing--stranger things have happened!

I think she tried to not throw Jon under the bus, by saying that it was her mistake that she settled too soon. But, of course she did!

IMO, there is movement in the right direction, and it was a kinder and gentler Kate than we saw last night. It is easy to pick her apart, and of course that will be done by those that truly despise her. I don't care enough to despise her, so I see someone who is struggling to change and is just another fellow human being. I wish for her what I wish for everyone--a normal life that will have its triumphs and challenges, joys and grief and a sense of belonging.

Ducking down now...

Carole said... 118

Kate could suck it up buttercup and just be nice about Jon. Always. No exceptions. No snide remarks about settling and all the other BS she spews. If one narcissist could do it for the children, so can she.

********

But, being the scorned and put-upon wife is TFW's brand and she'd never consider doing anything that would tarnish that shining identity she's worked so hard to maintain.

The Nielsen ratings discussion is getting more interesting and complicated. They plan to add Facebook to their 'Social Content Ratings' (I didn't know they had such a thing and now that I do, I wonder if they publish it or if it is just for insider use) and include it w/the numbers from Twitter.

"The development of Social Content Ratings reflects Nielsen's commitment to continually adapt our services to meet the needs of the industry and is part of Nielsen's ongoing effort to evolve our measurement to reflect the total audience across screens and platforms," said Nielsen Social president. "Nielsen Social measurement is evolving to provide a comprehensive, standardized picture of how consumers are responding to program content through social media, wherever and whenever."

"The increased data should give networks and other content providers a better gauge of how effective their social marketing strategies are and insight into the relationship between social activity and tune-in. While Twitter has long been considered the main social platform when it comes to TV-related social conversation, adding Facebook—and its 330 million peak-hour users—will only enhance the scope."

I didn't see a much cross-promotion on the other Discovery networks I watch. There was quite a bit for the new Little Couple episode but absolutely nothing about Kate. I predict stable ratings of around 1.2 million for the week.

I don't think we'll see ratings released today. For some reason they lag by a day some times. As of now Monday cable ratings haven't been released yet. I think Monday will come out today and we'll have to wait until tomorrow to see how the date episode fared.

Great thinking MikeB..."I think TLC is calling this the finale because it is the last of the shows featuring original content."
__
I wonder if Kate gets the full amount that she normally gets for an episode. But then again she had the tremendously arduous task of narrating the episode (snark!) sitting on her butt in her basement.

Also I think Vann did the show for the experience of being on TV and just for the fun of it. He sounds like he is highly social from his facebook organizations. I think TLC probably had him sign a contract so stinking fast that his head probably spun. And I don't think he needed the money nor was it a factor but maybe there was something special he wanted the money for. He probably thought what the hell...a helicopter ride at night over Manhattan and a fancy meal. What is the harm. TLC was not going to let somebody that great get away from them. Also they probably wanted him to sign fast so he could not research Kate and her terrible reputation. I wonder if Vann is pissed at Deanna for holding back info about how bad of a reputation Kate has.

Also what is so pitiful is when Kate goes on and on with Deanna saying that she INSISTED that Deanna tell Vann she had eight kids. Well, I am sure he knew it was for a reality show. And I am sure he asked the name of it. Duh, Kate Plus Eight, I mean really the audience is not that dumb.

Why would he be upset with Deanna for holding back info on Kate's reputation? He's a big boy and he could have done just a little bit of googling about her and found out right away how much she is disliked.

Leslie said... 127

Ex-Nurse and Judy, I can somewhat see a what you are both saying. In this episode Kate was nice and the kids behaved overall. But I do disagree that just because Kate said SHE settled that it was fine for her to say it. It is still a slam to Jon, isn't it? If I say it was my fault I settled too soon and married my ex, I am still saying that he was not good enough for me and therefore I settled. She is saying he was below her. But he was good enough to beg him for more multiplies after having twins, wasn't he? He was apparently good enough to renew their vows in 2008 and a year later separated. I thought that comment was rude and uncalled for. Especially when she has 8 kids by him whom will be watching the show.

And then her telling Vann that whoever she dates will have to be tough enough to handle eight kids. My goodness, what a comment to turn a guy off. He only signed up (literally) for a helicopter ride and a meal. He did not sign up to take on eight kids. It is a no-no to talk about your ex on a first date.

And another rude comment was when Deanna said that she is never alone because all the kids do not go away on the weekends. And Kate sighed and said, "yeah". And I feel very strongly she had Kate's permission to say that. Poor Kate, she only has 8 to 9 hours alone in her home 5 days a week. And that does not include the night time hours when the kids are in bed. That is 40 hours a week of alone time so stop the pity party that she never gets time away. And that does not include the numerous trips she takes away from her kids. Remember this is the woman who stated that it worked best for her to be gone a week and then home a week from her kids. Remember she didn't say she HAD to work a week away from home; but that it worked best for her family. And she had eight very small kids at the time. This woman is so pampered and has of tons of time to cater to just herself with manicures, pedicures, massages, and shopping. It is just another insult to Jon about him not having all the kids on the weekends. She has been divorced six years and it is tiring & wrong all the subtle (and subtle) bashing she does of Jon.

And if she wants more adult conversation, she could do volunteer work during her 40 hours of free time. No, she only wants the public to feel sorry for her.

For all the hype, it sure was a boring episode. It was basically the same conversation over & over - Kate is nervous, has never been on a blind date, is nervous, has 8 kids, is nervous - with "like" thrown into each sentence at least twice. Kate & Deanna were even worse than Mady & Cara in that department - it was, like, painful to listen to the two women, like, have a conversation...

Wowser said... 133

Rain birdie....I thought it was funny that miss "English is my favorite subject" kept insulting her paid friend/makeup artist Deanna every time she said "I'm so disheveled and nervous" after Deanna had spent hours glamming her up for that date. She has no idea the meaning of words. Lol

FlimsyFlamsy said... 134

Gosh, TFW admitted that the cameras made her feel uncomfortable. Now imagine being 11, and having cameras filming you for the majority of your life, whether you want them there or not. I'm not ready to cut her any slack yet, if only for that reason.

PA Dutch Mom, I agree but add to that he was flattered to be asked to appear in a reality show. We got to remember, this was a fake date. He was vetted and got the part, and that is what it was. A Part in a show. Period. Instead of a romantic date with Jeff as scheduled, TLC came up with the blind date scenario. They are desperate to inject some new ideas into a very stale show.

Love this tweet! Sorry k8 fans but this is how @kateplusmy8 works. Won't keep u informed UNLESS TLC pays her 2 do it

Not one to defend Kate, but I'm not sure if that's true. It could very well be that TLC controls the PR, and it may be in the contract that the network is the first to release info, and she is bound by that. They are telling her how much, if any, gets publicized, and when. Being paid has nothing to do with it.

I'd like to say the same but Kate has duplicity down to a science. She's too cunning to be trusted, imo. Years of watching her manipulate people makes me wary of her motives because Kate is always looking out for Kate.

Lucy Ellen said... 138

IMO the Deana met him at a charity auction is the fictional cover story. What were they going to say - TLC was beating the bushes for someone to play the role of Kate's date ? Vann is probably a friend of someone at TLC/Discover and agreed to be the last minute fill in for the guy that bailed and left them stranded. No offense to Deanna but I doubt that she has the extra money to attend charity auctions in NYC. And if she did, why would she hand a catch like him off to Kate ? She's single too... I find it hard to believe that he and Deanna are friends - they don't travel in the same circles socially or in business. I would think the same 'friend of Deanna' story line was going to be used for Jeff too.

I thought Vann was a very charming man. I don't think Kate is the woman he has been waiting all his life for though. I doubt they have had any more dates.

Over And Out said... 139

IMO, there is movement in the right direction, and it was a kinder and gentler Kate than we saw last night. It is easy to pick her apart, and of course that will be done by those that truly despise her. I don't care enough to despise her, so I see someone who is struggling to change and is just another fellow human being.

))))

I doubt it. It could just be TLC trying yet another tactic to pull the wool. I don't despise her. I have just seen enough of the different personas she has tried on, and none of them seems to work, such as the can-do Kate, the charity Kate, the organic Kate, the dedicated running Kate, and so forth. It's the story of the Boy Who Cried Wolf. Perhaps one of these days she may be serious about a kinder, softer Kate, but because of her history, there will only be a few people who actually believe it.

Do narcissists ever change their spots unless there is something in it for them?

When Deanna and Kate were hugging goodbye when Kate was about to get on the helicopter with Vann, they were hugging and Kate whispered to Deanna, I Love You. I think Deanna said the same thing. I can't remember her saying it.

When Kate and Deanna were walking up to the building Kate said, Deanna, don't leave until I am ready. So, if she decided she didn't like the date they had it worked a bug out plan?

Oh, I looked up brick on urban dictionary.

It is so disgusting that TFW has to brainwash people with the lie that she never gets time alone away from the kids.

Do they go to school? Yes. Then she has 40 hours a week, 5 days a week from drop off to pick up without them. They do go see their dad on the weekends, not all go, but most.

How does she sleep at night knowing she has told lie after lie over and over again on anything or anybody for decades?

Over And Out said... 145

((((((((((((((

You can attend a charity auction without needing money. I have gone to quite a few where no cash is required up front. It isn't mandatory that you buy something. Maybe she went as a guest of someone else who paid. Anything is possible.

It could have been networking for her, a chance to meet people in the entertainment and business industry. I don't doubt the story. It's plausible. What I do question is if Kate and the date met prior to filming.

Rainbirdie said... 146

Right there is your nugget of truth ;-). That's the only constant when it comes to Kate.
The show is fake. The date was fake. What you see is what TLC wants you to see. Its all manipulation and people buy into it over and over again, and not just Kate's shoe.
People get invested in most reality shows they like because they think they're witnessing life in situ. It's not.
What I know as fact is that Kate has and will continue to use her children for fame, money, access, freebies and privilege. Those thing are immutable.

I agree with this, and I think with their second go around with Vann, they found someone quick with little notice so there wouldn't be time for Vann to catch up and figure out the shitstorm he was about to walk into. He was prime for the taking, a "sure I'm up for whatever!" type guy. It's hilarious his buddies are now like, dude what were you thinking! That's the point, he didn't give this much thought.

I second that, she had far from a sheltered life.
Actually, her childhood seems pretty darn Americana to me. I understand she didn't like it but that's her subjective opinion. Boo hoo, she had to do landscaping on Saturdays.

Just because your parents can't afford grand vacations to tropical locations twice a year plus a New Year's ski trip doesn't mean you're sheltered. PA is not really a sheltered place to grow up. People from there are normal.

In the beginning of the show when the kids were helping Kate pick out what she was going to wear on her date, they showed several shots of Kate's bedroom.

For someone who claims to be so "organizationalish"(which she also told her date), the top of her desk was a total mess, with papers and stuff scattered everywhere.

They also zoomed in on a picture of Kate and Jamie which was in a frame that said "Friends". Guess that was to show that Kate has a least 2 friends, Jamie and Deanna.

BTW, this date was definitely filmed in September after the deck was installed. You could see parts of the deck when they showed the kids cooking.

http://www.imperfectparent.com/blog/2011/06/21/kate-plus-8-add-to-the-list-of-why-kate-gosselin-disgusts-me/

"She coyly tells the camera that playing with her children on their level is something that she can’t do in high heels.

My question to Kate Gosselin is this — why in the HELL are you wearing 3″ inch heels to go race car driving. I mean really. Who does that??

I suppose being single and having 47 children, it’s difficult to find somebody to date who isn’t in it for the short celebrity cycle and potential money, so maybe she thinks that she has to wear her “come eff me shoes” and bat her eyelashes to get her some booty or more disturbingly, to get her “sexy” on. (BTW, blech, that eye-lift didn’t do you any favors Kate.)"

Mel said... 178

Another article from 2011 talking about TFW and those damned heels. You know, the ones she 'never wears'.

http://hollywoodlife.com/pics/kate-gosselin-kate-plus-eight-australia-episode/

"We must admit, it was quite the feat watching Kate make her way through the airport in an itty bitty jean skirt and stilettos"

Mel said... 179

From a review of the hot air balloon episode, in 2009. Those heels that she never wears again.

"She actually admits that she is a “ding dong” for the way she is dressed, she only packs heels you know. "

From a review of the Statue of Liberty episode in 2010. That heels again.

"or the opportunity to “drive the boat,” as Kate did, capitalizing on her fame to invite herself up the ladder to man the controls, all the while complaining that her high heels made the ladder climb difficult."

Wowser said... 180

Exactly Mel....which is why as much as any of us would hope that a kinder, gentler TFW was emerging, it's impossible for her. She escaped her "mediocre life" from whence she grew up, set out to find a man, get those money making multiples, fleece the church goers to get on tv and make $ and get things for who she is (narcissists would all crave this). Her true personality was how she treated Jon and those babies when the cameras were off. She has had so much negative press from people realizing she is not a nice person at all and really has no natural maternal instinct as its all about her.
I think she realized that she's hated and is losing "viewers" for years, whether it's been fighting to STAY on tv or Get BACK on tv, so her personality is ever evolving til one sticks. The organizationalish Kate she boasted to Vann about goes out the window when you are in her pig pen of a closet. Her "I can't kiss because my kids are watching" modest demure Kate doesn't stick because she spent years in hooker heels, daisy Dukes and her boobs hanging out during her I'm a tavern wench phase. The list goes "awn and awn". Besides, the locals say she is vile to people in the community. So, I'm not buying it.

Jane said... 181

I don't believe for a second that Kate is trying to change or even wants to change. TLC probably said "enough with the nasty outlook, you need some positive press." And dollars for donuts in the next episode she'll be rewriting history and crying crocodile tears. Lanc Native and others see her up close and personal and they've never led us astray.

Mel said... 182

Wasn't that her schtick on DWTS? That she had to have a 'modest' outfit because (sob) her kids would be watching?

But before that she went gas up her car in Daisy Dukes, 3" heels, and a halter top (2 sizes too small). Maybe the kids weren't with when she was gassing up?

Although they were certainly with on the hot air balloon thing, the boat trip, the NYC trip.

FYI said... 183

Another part that I found somewhat funny. When they leave the helicopter ride to go to the restaurant, both Kate and Vann take the limo to the restaurant.

When the date is over, Kate gets in the limo and leaves Vann stranded there.

I guess he could have taken a cab from the restaurant, by why not give him a ride home?

Oh, that would've spoiled the end of the date, wouldn't it have?

Totally scripted!

FlimsyFlamsy said... 184

I think TFW struggles with her stories because that's what they are: stories. When you tell the truth, you don't have anything to keep track of.
Either you've dated since your divorce or you haven't. It's not up for interpretation. Yet she told 2 conflicting versions of that story.

I also think that Deanna and Kate have a nice relationship. It does revolve around Kate, but so what, who cares?

I used to have a friendship like that while I was in college. My best friends life and problems were all front and center of our friendship. If I had a problem or an interest that I wanted to talk about, it was usually shrugged off as unimportant. After being a doormat for five years, I decided to stand up for myself. Even though we only speak occasionally, she finally respects me now because I refuse to be apart of a friendship where I just gave and gave, and got nothing back.
Kate is always sprouting off her problems or emotions while Deanna nods like a bobble head.

I think "sheltered" is very subjective term. I grew up on the South side of Chicago and attended a huge inner city high school. We had a police guar on duty at all times, and had several once push shootings. There were 750 in my high school class. I regularly took public transportation all over the city. So, attending a small Christian high school with less than 20 in her class seems sheltered to me.
