Coming up on Kate Plus 8, school shopping for clothes, backpacks, and Kate gets distracted by something shiny and starts buying things for herself. This is a literal repeat of at least a couple other back-to-school boring episodes, including Kate buying much more for herself than for the kids. No one in production is even trying to do something original, and why would they when phoning it in is enough? Kate doesn't believe in being fair because that wastes money. She should write a blog post on saving money by not being fair, Dave Ramsey would be proud.
It's always about Kate, Cara explains, who is old enough to be on to her mother but not old enough to realize when she should probably shush, which is my favorite age.
Kate is more orange than usual today in her couch interviews--I would say it's "Trump orange," which is a color I better patent soon before someone else steals it. But in the footage of her packing up the van her hue is back to normal, which is more eggshell white. Hannah gets stress headaches, Kate says as she discloses what should be confidential medical information. At 11 she's stressed? What on earth is she stressed about? Kate packs her into the van with a blanket.
Is that a booster seat? Wtf? I understand the carseat guidelines have shifted to include much older children now (in Pennsylvania, the law is booster seat up until age 7), but these kids are all way too old for that now. Most seat belts will fit children 4'9 and up comfortably and safely. None of these children are that short anymore. Give it up, Kate, they are not toddlers and haven't been for a long time.
It looks horrendous carting a sick child to the mall, I know, Kate says. Correct, it does. So why do it? A set teacher certainly wouldn't permit this or risk losing their license. Kate did the same to one of the boys not too long ago. They have a full time nanny, why can't Hannah stay behind with her? Kate explains this is just a Hannah thing and she'll get over it in a few hours.
There's Shoka again, a mere inches from the moving tires of a several-ton vehicle. Grr!!!
Dowdy Deanna just happened to be visiting and takes the twins off separately at the mall. Why couldn't Deanna stay home with Hannah, and make the twins suck it up and go with Kate and the rest of their siblings? Why do I hurt my brain wondering these things?
The boys say they don't like shopping other than for toys. By the looks of them they don't much enjoy endless couch interviews either as Aaden tosses his head back and lets out a huge yawn.
You know something that I didn't notice much in the past but is really starting to irritate me? How funny-cute Kate thinks she is. She tries to make these little self-depricating jokes and they're just annoying, not funny. "I get distracted by things I want to buy .... maybe I even acted like a person who had never been to a mall before. Did I remind you of someone like that? " She smiles like a goon.
Typically, no one cares what was done in year's past or why or how they need what they need, who likes what or doesn't, and all the whining and begging that ensues.
Joel says they don't want the same backpacks because that makes them look younger. Exactly!! Of course the kids don't want to dress alike or have the same things, contrary to the sheeple claiming maybe they like that. Of course they don't like that, no 11-year-old likes looking like a baby. The only nice thing about the fact that these kids a decade later are still working is that they are validating pretty much everything we predicted about how they likely feel.
I enjoy watching Kate try to reason with a pre-teen. It's one of the few tolerable things left of this God forsaken reality show.
The kids want her to buy them water bottles but Kate passes on that, initially anyway. She says bottles get dirty and disgusting and they leave water in them and she ends up being the one always cleaning them out. I can't disagree there, reusable water bottles are a great idea in your perfect green fantasy but rarely work out in reality. I have a Contiga cup which is an incredible invention, when I get around to cleaning out last month's English breakfast tea.
Half a minute later Kate's buying them water bottles. She is either the biggest pushover in the world or is just trying to be on her best behavior for the cameras. Much like how she parents in general, she only seems to understand the tangible aspect of raising kids, the stuff, the things. She doesn't understand good parenting is not that you bought kids water bottles because they really wanted them, but rather good parenting is making sure your sick child stays home with someone they trust instead of being dragged along on this trip, or better yet shop on another day. Hannah says shopping stresses her mom out. I wonder if that's why Hannah in turn gets stressed out.
Kate selects some tupperware and admits 90% of her shopping is done online. I was just going to say why don't they buy all this crap online like normal people? Does anyone even go to malls anymore? Malls are closing across the country at an alarming rate because people just don't go anymore. You can get better deals online usually anyway, and almost all stores now have a liberal return policy with free shipping no questions asked. You save stress, time, and gas and can try things on in the comfort of your own home. I'm guessing the other 10% of Kate's big box store shopping occurs solely because of the cameras.
During an excruciatingly boring conversation about gym clothes I can hear one of the kids politely saying "excuse me, Mommy," trying to get her attention. She is ignored of course. It makes sense now why these kids shout, scream and stomp around so much. Being quiet and polite gets you nowhere.
We're moving "owwn" to the next thing which is I guess clothes. This could easily have been the same footage from the premiere episode of this season, School's Out! where they went to the department store to buy luggage. It's that similar. Kate's helping Leah pick out some dresses and Alexis wants something too. Naturally Kate's comment about how shopping isn't always going to be fair was about Alexis, the least girlie of the girls. Figures. I'm not sure I even agree with Kate about how it can't be fair. It seems like this can easily be made fair. Give the kids each $50, $75 or whatever your budget is and have them pick out what they want with your approval. They're old enough to handle the money and pick out their clothes and that makes it perfectly fair. That noggin of hers sure thinks funny.
This is rather interesting, I assumed the twins didn't want to shop with the younger kids because they seem to hate sharing the same planet as them, but Mady reveals that actually she doesn't understand why she didn't shop with the other kids since she needs clothes too, and that she "wasn't allowed." Wasn't allowed by whom? Production? Conversely, Kate claims the twins didn't want to shop with the younger kids. I immediately assume Kate's lying and Mady's telling the truth. So was separating them out done to have two separate shopping segments and stretch this out? Hmm!!
Anywho, the twins are with Deanna and picking out stuff and it's all absolutely uneventful and boring. Kate buys their boring stuff and then does that sarcastic "thank you, Mommy," thing that some annoying parents say to their kids when their kids forget to say thank you. In defense of Mady, Kate started it, and Mady explains that she was going to say thank you, was in fact about to say it. I'm going to give Mady the benefit of the doubt on this. They had just bought the shoes, at least give the child until the car ride home to thank her.
This sets Mady off on a snide little tirade, accusing Kate of treating her like a brat. "Thank you, but you can say it to yourself," she snaps, whatever that means. She is I would guess about six months away from saying, "Thank you, but you should be thanking us because that's our money you're buying it with." Just ask the former child actor Missy Francis how old she was when she realized the same about her mother and started embezzling her own money to herself just to be sure she'd see any of it by the time she was 18.
Mady can be trying, she's mean to her siblings and I think the way Kate allows her to speak to her is completely unacceptable, but I also understand what Mady's saying here, and that is that Kate is unreasonable, disrespectful and patronizing to her, yet expects perfect respect back. It's a set-up, it's unfair and certainly very obnoxious.
All Kate can do is sigh and ignore her at this point, and I think she's wise to shut up and just let Mady say her peace. Kate won't take any of it to heart though, which is a pity. A little give and take with this dysfunctional relationship might do wonders.
It's a good thing we're not playing a drinking game this afternoon because I'd be soused to the gills. I just heard two typicallys and an "in general." Kate basically admits she's bribing the kids with pretzels. To buy shoes, or really just to stick around and film? I sense the latter. Mmm, I love mall pretzels. And mall cinnamon buns. That's all I miss about malls now that I don't go anymore like most people. Speaking of which, some of the finest television "short films" were made in a Cinnabon in Omaha. Watch Better Call Saul, the best show on television this year, and you'll understand.
I love the way Lancaster is pronounced in Pennsylvania: Lane-kes-ter. That is the correct way if I may say so. We have a Lancaster here, a medium-sized city in L.A. County but pronounced Lan-caster, and to go with its inferior pronunciation it's a desert with lots of snakes and varmints and not enough gas stations to run your tank down to almost empty and be fine.
How ironic, Kate has wonderful fond memories of her grandparents taking her to the mall. Grandpa gave them each $5 to spend. Sounds like even ole Gramps understands how to make shopping "fair."
The store didn't have a good selection of shoes, didn't have their sizes or the styles they want, and it doesn't look like they ended up buying anything. Remember those days? Now we have the inter-webs, where I promise you can find your size and style somewhere in that vast wonderland even if you might have to resort to ebay. Kate says for the second time how much she hates all this. Well, she makes it harder on herself. All this could be accomplished with a few clicks and a credit card that's already automatically entered by the little green men at Google.
The little people are swimming again, which I realize now was a good excuse for production to try out their underwater camera rigs. They don't come cheap.
We're back with a completely unrelated subplot storyline to plot A, about how they're going to refurbish their picnic table. Kate and the younger kids head to the hardware store. The twins complain that they were not told they were going to the hardware store, they just woke up and they were gone. Sheesh, I hope schmoopy at least left them a note! Assuming it's true, that the twins weren't informed of this outing, this is what I mean by Kate not respecting them. You can't be as rude and inconsiderate as she apparently is to them, then expect respect back. It's a two-way street.
Kate admits she doesn't "typically" take them to do errands like this, but the cameras are here so .... well, she really claims she took them them because this is going to be a whole-family project, but the truth is the kids are just in her way and she's not making any effort to include them in this shopping trip, and this is really about the cameras.
Mady and Cara couldn't be more unenthused about helping to sand the table. They're insufferable but understandable.
Kate pulls out a power sander and makes a whole big deal about operating this machinery. This happened before too, just a couple episodes ago when she worked with a chain saw. I hate women who think its funny and cute when they tackle traditionally male jobs and act all damsel in distress about it. At one time this show recycled plot ideas from a season or two ago, now it's just an episode or two ago. It's like a blond bimbo high-pitched awful version of Groundhog Day, a movie I hate in the first place. Ha, Kate's awful at sanding, it runs every which way taking the scenic route down the table. Either that or she's really playing up the woman fumbling around with power tools gag. Amy Schumer she is not.
Of course most of the kids start to gradually wander away, bored, now that Kate is power sanding and not including them or even letting them try it. What does she expect?
Just an observation now that yet another too long and boring segment is over, but why didn't they pull out the power sander sooner? Why did they all sit there with sandpaper blocks and slave away for who knows how long when Kate had a power sander right there all along that could have done the entire job in 10 minutes?
This is a rhetorical questions I suppose, and the answer to most of my rhetorical questions is usually, because it was being filmed. It makes no sense to do things quickly and efficiently when you're being filmed, then you'd never be able to find enough footage to fill up 60 minutes of this drivel every week. You can only roll your eyes I guess. The kids are half onto all this and will be all the way there soon.

Commercials, and when we get back they're still sanding that god damned picnic table! I feel like I'm in sandpaper purgatory and can't get out. A somewhat new thing they are doing during the kids' couch interviews is have them say the same thing at the same time. It's Children of the Corn creepy.
Amy Schumer here is working with an air compressor now, acting all inept again. Blow me.
Kate's glad the full-time nanny Andrea happened to be there since for some reason Andrea knows about how to stain picnic tables. Why wouldn't Andrea be there? She is their full-time nanny. The kids trickle back in now, interested in painting. Instead of whining about it, maybe Kate should just appreciate what they are willing to help with, little as it is. Finally after two long segments the table is finished, it looks great and the kids are mildly proud of their efforts. It really is amazing what a little sanding and staining can do. That's what she said.
Commercials, this time the promo is about people who are 600 pounds and a network that still pretends watching people pull their rolls of fat out from their pants and roll it around has educational value.
We're back with the third subplot in this episode that's actually related to the school shopping this time, final preparations for their first day of school. Mady makes an interesting comment that it's not cool to be entering high school, though she likes they don't have to wear uniforms anymore. I have never in all my life met a kid who wasn't thrilled to finally be going to high school with the big kids, even if there were a little first day nerves about it. It's just a strange comment. The twins are going shopping for clothes again? The first trip wasn't enough?
They're at one of those small boutique clothing shops that most women can't afford to shop at until at least a decade after college is over and several salaried paychecks later. In typical Mady and Cara fashion the twins are ungrateful, disagreeable and unhelpful to the very nice salesperson helping them who apparently cleared the store out for them. Kate defends their rude and unacceptable behavior by saying she was just like that as a teen. Well, then they get it from her.
Kate can't help herself and goes after all the shiny stuff, grabbing up dresses and blouses and handbags like it's a pop-up swag tent. The twins knew that would happen, heh.
Kate's still defending Mady who is making snide comments by saying it was actually a round-about way for Mady to say Kate looked nice. Lol! Kate, "oh my gosh you look like a human" is not a nice comment no matter how you twist and turn yourself around to make it one. She is the worst, no wonder these twins are the way they are. The music during this segment was pulled from stock 17th century harpsichords, which is random.

Up next, they're going to another boutique??? I really am in shock how much is being repeated and recycled in this episode, and the sheer greed I'm witnessing.
At last the final segment. What's the point in clearing out an expensive boutique for ungrateful teenagers if they don't like anything? Cara is actually arguing with Kate that she has enough summer clothes, she doesn't want anymore, and Mady doesn't seem to want anything at this place. Why in the world is Kate pushing them into buying summer clothes on a back-to-school trip in the Northeast when 95% of your school year will be spent in winter clothes?
Kate complains they're in a phase where they have very narrow likes and don't want to branch out. So? That's normal. At that age I think I had one or two sweaters and a pair of jeans I wore to death, as long as they are washed regularly it's not hurting anything. What does Kate care? Just get them what they like, online, and be done with it. She really picks a lot of fights she doesn't need to.
Mady gives Kate one too many "it's all about you" comments and Kate finally loses her shit, haha. Love it.
A third store???? This is truly agonizing. Just take my word for it absolutely nothing interesting happened here. Kate suggests she and Mady get these completely ugly sweater pants and share them, "share custody of them" she says. Oh yeah cause Kate's so great at sharing custody of anything. Mady, you'll never see those sweater pants again except maybe for a Tuesday night dinner once in awhile but that's it.
It's finally over, and next time we pick out more clothes but at least it's for Kate's fake-date, and her rather cute (!) suitor, nice selection from all those head shots, production! Baw-hahhaa, the side hug and turned cheek at the end of the date. Shade! Cannot wait.
Little people playing with bubbles, and we're out.

Nothing about abuse.
))))))))))
I haven't read the blog for some time, but I don't remember him saying anything about the kids being abused, nor cowering. Where did this come from? He told it like it was, that she was an ungrateful snob (maybe not exactly in those words!) but nothing about how she treated the children or that they were afraid of her. Of course, I could be wrong...
Re: Milo's absence: TFW stopped paying him/her? Or maybe had a falling out with the mgmt firm she'd contracted with to provide the Milo persona?
And now they're free to spill the beans...wouldn't that be rich. Laughing already.
LANCASTER, Pa. —Police have arrested a man after they say he held a cell phone over a bathroom stall at an area Sheetz store.
It happened at the Sheetz located at 1180 Manheim Pike in Lancaster.
A 10-year-old girl was inside the stall of the women's bathroom and reported the activity to her mother, who was waiting outside of the restroom. Employees told police the man, 19-year-old James Thomas Shoemaker, had been in the bathroom for about an hour.
&&&&
Sheesh!
This is my point with the targeting. I assume this man wasn't a transexual. How does pearl clutching and banning transexuals from bathrooms do anything to help prevent this peeping Tom pervert? It doesn't! Any time you go into any public restroom you take on the small risk there will be some pervert in there. Obviously telling him only ladies are allowed in the restroom did nothing to deter him, a true devient, so this is all just a bunch of running around for new reason. All its done is make a group of people going through something difficult already feel even more embarrassed and ashamed. Congrats, Ma Duggar.
FYI for those that don't subscribe to HBO. The special "Nothing Left Unsaid" about Anderson Cooper and his mother, Gloria Vanderbilt will also air on CNN. It will be broadcast on CNN, April 29 at 9pm.

Thanks for sharing this, KIAT. Definitely set your DVR - it's worth watching!
Lanc Native (200),
Thank you, and I am glad to hear that your friend is managing well. I had certain symptoms for years, but it's easy to explain them away and think it's something else. Finally I broke out in a bleeding rash from head to toe, nose bleeding, itching, fever, raging headache, joint pain, etc. Just a total autoimmune breakdown. And yes, the testing is exhaustive. Now I just want to get it under control so I can move on.
DH is thinking we should buy a house someplace not as crowded and stressful as DC--at least for weekends-- and we were just looking at places in the Lancaster area. His family has a house up north of there (actually very close to TFW's house) that is jointly owned by the whole family, but we'd like something of our own. We could end up being neighbors!
Lanc Native, I was responding to a poster who thought Walt witnessed abuse so I found his blog and there was nothing.
TLC Stinks. You're right. Walt didn't write about seeing Kate scream at the kids and their cowering not knowing if they were going to be hit....it was another neighbor that saw the abuse and told Robert. It was his book I read about that.
Sorry for the mistake.
http://imgur.com/qmRiD9u I copied it from Roberts book.

TLC, yes, I see that. I didn't mean that you came up with the report of alleged abuse. Sorry for the confusion. My question was -- who the original poster who said that Walt reported that the neighbors witnessed mistreatment of the kids. I hadn't remembered any of that when I read the blog a long time ago.
Walt called it like it was. He lived there. He's good people. Jon was the down-to-earth guy who was friendly, appreciative and a nice neighbor. Kate was the mean nasty shrew who wanted nothing to do with the mediocre neighbors. I don't think that anything has changed. The sheep should read that blog. Then again, they'd accuse him of being jellus, vindictive and just out to get her. They will never open their eyes to how it really was, and that's too bad. If they are happy wearing those rose-colored glasses, then good for them. But they are very wrong. Not everyone loves Kate, as the fans would have you believe. She's just not a likable person.
I'm wondering about Gladys, though. She's been gone for three and a half months, her longest MIA in history! Something is going on. She couldn't possibly be too busy with her family for that long a period of time. Something tells me she's butt-hurt and had her fingers slapped.
OT for Tucker's. Last weekend we had winter weather advisories and snow. Today it was 81 degrees. Ah, the fickle finger of spring, I guess. Did you put on the AC?

82 degrees here today, and the AC was on for a bit.
Re-Walt's blog and other fellow Christians who had the courage to speak out:
Fellow Christians always came down hard on anyone who would speak out against J+K making their children go through their divorce in public. People who witnessed what filming was like, and people who witnessed how cold and better-than-thou Kate was were pilloried.
On its face, who could possible disagree about shielding your children and shutting the publicity down? But when it came to Kate and her Christian, pro-life pathos, there was no reasoning with her ardent supporters, no matter what.

The name of the show resonates with the same B.S. about the Gosselin kids. "It's 8 against 1 or 2". It's just negative on its face.
I bet TFW is not a happy camper with a new crop
of adorable multiples showing up on TLC. That's probably why she was fine with letting her kids argue and complain and be difficult (one child in particular)in the most recent episodes. What other hook did she have? And with the date episode not being a huge ratings success, my guess is TFW will happily continue to sacrifice her kids' dignity for more episodes.

Interesting, her fascination with Ginger. I would think that she would be rooting for Antonio in this competition.

I think she had made herself and her kids available for filming any time, anywhere. No worries about school, homework, extracurricular activities--filming is all that matters. There are other TLC families with kids in school, and they may actually see education as a priority, limiting their filming schedule. The Duggars are back, but there is still so much controversy and apparently problems with advertisers. Kate and kids are ready, willing, and able at all times. That means a steady stream of new shows.
BTW, I think Kate was telling the truth when she said she paid for the deck. I think she got a big discount for promoting the builder, but I recall that if TLC didn't pay for something, then she wouldn't allow construction to be filmed (from Robert's book). And the construction of the deck was not filmed, according to the recap. Remember all the episodes about the twins' room renovation in the old house, the kitchen remodel in the new house, the crooked houses, the solar panels, etc, etc. All filmed, some for multiple episodes. But the deck seemed to magically appear. I think TLC is limiting the amount of money they are willing to spend on K+8, and refusing to fork over the cash for all her demands. She has to do it herself or she's got nothing new to use as an idea for an episode. And she does, indeed, live her life by episodes and seasons.
I just want Nyle DiMarco. Is that too much to ask? He is gorgeous. I need to take a cold shower. The emotion he puts into his dances is just incredible.
***********************************************
Sherry Baby, you'll have to share him with me! HE is the ONLY reason I am watching this season (though I do like Ginger Zee too). He is amazing.
Another reason I think TLC is limiting Kate's budget is the sweater pants. We have seen her TLC-sponsored shopping trips before, and she wanders around, tossing things willy-nilly into her shopping cart without even glancing at the price. She wanted those sweater pants, tried to coax Mady into "sharing custody" of them with her (perhaps a certain dollar amount was approved per person?), but didn't get them. She never walks out of a store without having TLC buy her whatever she wants. Someone tightened the purse strings.
It will be interesting to see if the new roof she tweeted about is filmed. If not, then she would have had to cough up the money for it. Ouch!
.I know some here claim she's filler but how long are we going to say that?
******
K+8 is reliable programming. The show has peaked, Kate's overall popularity has been waning and I think K+8 has leveled out. But, it's not a disaster ratings-wise.
J+K+8 has its time in the sun, when they were TLC's darlings, but now someone else has taken their place and so it goes.
Layla, I'm sorry to hear you have lupus. A diagnosis like that can be a shock. It sounds like you have some good support. I have kidney disease and liver damage. My original kidney disease diagnosis sent me into a tailspin. Be kind to yourself. Listen to your body. I hope you don't feel too awful day to day.
Layla hugs to you and I'm really grateful you feel well enough to chime in here!
.I know some here claim she's filler but how long are we going to say that?
&&&&
Probably as long as she remains filler. It could be years!
She's not top billing anymore, she doesn't bring in ratings anywhere close to their top shows. When something else better comes along she gets bumped. She doesn't get good time slots anymore, they barely promote her, and they don't run her reruns like crazy day after day like they do their favorite shows. No one at the network is telling her what's going on in terms of programming decisions or her future, she as much as admitted that many times, and there have been incredibly long stretches between filming and actual air dates, all evidence she's just their filler.
The only sad thing about it is how embarrassing it is for them to be groveling along like this waiting for a bone. She sits there and tweets like all is well while being treated like yesterday's leftovers, brought out only when you're hungry or your husband ate all the good stuff. I hate watching someone grovel.
Fleecing The Sheeple said... 25
Interesting, her fascination with Ginger. I would think that she would be rooting for Antonio in this competition.
-----------------------
She may be rooting for Ginger because she's a fan of Ginger's husband, Ben Aaron. She did retweet something with a picture of Ben and the baby.
Doris Roberts. So sad.
Kate had a roof leak and had to get it repaired. She mentioned the leak happened with a new roof, so that would have been covered under a warranty, I would think. Anyway, it just goes to show how much upkeep expenses she's got with that property.
Good point about not filming the deck construction. I thought that was different. Perhaps TLC did not pay it all but the builder gave her a discount for promotion.
She will always film as long as TLC comes knocking.
The only sad thing about it is how embarrassing it is for them to be groveling along like this waiting for a bone.

There are many examples in the showbiz community of actors bringing their show to an end while they're on top- Seinfeld for one prime example.
Celebrities with actual talent and prospects know when they should step away and let their work end on a high note, and not be associated with a decline in quality and viewers.
Their shows are like beloved celebs, gone too soon, always cherished, always youthful and never suffering from old age.
It's embarrassing and you lose integrity when you're hanging on to a dog of a show, with no new storylines, originality or imagination.
At one time, Kate's prospects were like her compound; as far as the eye could see. Those days are gone.
She'd better hope that the kids continue to cooperate with filming until they're up and out of the compound.
Just saw a nice photo of 4 of the kids at some gig of Jon's. They all looked so happy to be spending time with their Dad seeing first hand what he does at hid DJ gigs.
Tucker's Mom (#38), yet if she was asked about it, TFW would probably claim she's doing it for the fans. For allllll the people who love her family, and who have clamored for more.
She's claimed lots of reasons for filming -- all with equal conviction. First she said it was a way to chronicle their childhoods, because she was too busy for home movies. Next it was to educate people who were curious about raising multiples. Then it was the only way to support 8 kids, because her nursing salary would go entirely to childcare. But if she was "awnest" about it, I think she'd have to admit that she's absolutely
in love with the money, attention and perks of filming, and will fight with her dying breath
to keep from ever getting a full-time, "mediocre"
job again.

People who find any level of success in reality television should always adjust their lifestyle DOWN to the level of where they started, because in all likelihood, that is exactly where they will wind up. Hopefully, with a bit of a nest egg, if they played it smart.
The problem is as you say, that these newly-minted fauxlebs start believing all the press and "yes" people who just want to wring out every drop of money they can from them.
Then, they believe they are a bonafide celebrity and expect the cameras and opportunities to always be there.
Not even talented actors and (trained and educated) media personalities have a full career all locked up.
Did I mention how happy I am that Mady has caught on to the "It's all about me" aspect of her mother's personality? And she's apparently not holding back about it. How does Kate explain that away? With the non-fans she can say, "They're just jealous", but what about her own daughter?
I think Mady is fully aware that her mother is using her and all the other kids to get what she (Kate) wants. And she does not like it.
Lanc Native,
Quiet? Peaceful? Laid back? Yes, please! As Tucker's Mom said, DC is pretty intense. The crowds, the traffic, the lines, the noise, the intense competition…it gets to be a bit much sometimes. You'll have to give me some suggestions. We liked what we saw, except a few houses we looked at in, I think, Lititz, which were on a golf course and it was all very "yuppie". That's what we are getting away from! I don't want anyone stressing over who has the biggest, best, newest whatever. We've had that for a long time now. But we loved the PA quiet and the friendly people. We ate breakfast at a diner, chatted with the people sitting next to us, and just had a great time.
Kate is incredibly lucky to have TLC still interested in her. The fact is the show routinely pulls in 1 million viewers and that's good enough for TLC and their advertisers. If not for watching the kids as toddlers, I don't believe those 1 million viewers would be very interested in her household at present. Kate is not the draw; it's the kids and how they change. The success of the show entirely depends on those kids and Kate, although a narcissist, is aware they must continue filming as an 8-pack. I hold out no hope the Gosselins will be off air anytime soon. My feeling is Jon is ok with all of this as it lets him off the hook financially.

My sense is that Mady is one of those teens who thinks being sarcastic and surly is "cool" and grown up.
I get that.
The problem is that 1) It seems to go unchecked by Kate and 2) It's out there FOREVER.
I wasn't the perfect teen, but I had the opportunity and blessing of being a private individual.
What do you do when you're opportunity to put your best face forward is no longer an option, whether it's because your mother has sold your private moments, or because of social media?
Mady has been a branded tv character since she was 6-years old!
And the branding ain't flattering!
@Terri I saw it and its the same 4,was kinda hoping Collin and Alexis was there.I mean,i'll confess and say that i wouldn't mind filming as much if it turned out that hes at least seeing all 8 of them for a decent amount of time. The thing is no one knows the reason why Collin and Alexis don't go to Jon's and i've said this before alot but just as long as it doesn't turn out they hate father.I can't think of something that Jon did that would of scarred only the 2 of them for life and not anyone else.I did state that ever since Kate's reply on twitter about the story of Jon abandoning a kitten 2 years ago,i became convince that Kate does show them negative articles about him.

It is a matter of public policy that parents are not allowed to make back-door deals when it comes to support. That's because child support, unlike most other negotiations, is about the child's best interest. Child support is treated as something separate and apart from everything else with its own independent calculation, not a pawn to be used in divorce negotiations like a house or car.
Therefore you're not allowed to say well, I'll give you back all your precious moments collection and buy you out of the house if you agree to let me off the hook for child support. It don't work that way. That's not to say such negotiations don't happen, but it would be secretive, not something the judge stamps on the up and up.

This is what I don't get. Kate's divorce attorney Cheryl Young was quoted in Radar as saying:
“I read Jon’s statement on RadarOnline.com and was quite surprised to read that he claims to be struggling to keep his child support payments current. As of April 27, 2012, Kate voluntarily relieved Jon of all current and future child support obligations for their eight children,” she said.

I have no idea what the situation is with Jon and filming. Maybe he feels like it is a losing battle, and he's not going to waste time and money when he can't win. I think that the only ones who can change anything would be the kids. Mady and Cara will be legal adults in 2 1/2 years. Kate is used to the 8 only getting 15% of the total take for filming because they are minors. That will change when Mady and Cara reach their 18th birthdays. They no longer have to split that small amount with all their siblings. They can make their own demands, have their own contracts and even their own agents. What will Kate do then? If M&C decide that they want equal shares of the pay (after the 15% for the 6, who will still be minors), Kate's share will be a fraction of what it is now. And 3 1/2 years later the younger kids will also be adults, and suddenly everyone can demand an equal share. I do not see Kate wanting to split the salary per episode with 8 other people. Things are going to change in a big way as those kids get older, and she will not be pocketing the kind of money that she is keeping now. This could get interesting.

Jon is doing a fundraiser called Dancing with the Reading Stars. It's for the Yocum Institute for the Arts Education. He's partnered with a realtor. Sorry I can't make the link clickable.
Yes, the kids look healthy and happy. But it's sad the other two are not there .Kate truly will be outnumbered soon, as the children become teens. Already C and M give her problems and she has to bribe them to do things, and they are sometimes absent from filming certain activities like the garden center.

PAvDutchvMom,
I can handle horses and buggies. Much better than careening around the beltway at breakneck speeds, with people cutting you off--and then flipping you off--because you're still not going fast enough. We were behind a horse and buggy on Sunday, and there were two little kids peering at us, and waving. So adorable. And…you guys have Roots Market! And all those farm stands in the summer. And pretty farms everywhere (I'm originally a Midwestern girl. I miss farms and barns). And diners where the witnesses say, "What can I get you, sweetie?" without having to wonder if they'll offend you or not. Heavenly!

Wouldn't it be ironic, hilarious, funny, etc. if the real DWTS saw Jon's participation in this local show and invited him to be on DWTS?
Now or within the next several years would be a great time for Jon to be on DWTS. Great publicity for his DJ business, $ for ??? I think TFW's head would explode if he was invited on DWTS.
This is what I don't get. Kate's divorce attorney Cheryl Young was quoted in Radar as saying:

**********
The non-attorney in me thought Jon still had to pay child support that was in arrears. You usually can't have that "forgiven". That may be what he's still struggling to pay. But the payment due during the same month the new order was given ("current support") and all future months were no longer Jon's to pay. Does this make sense?
I'm not sure what the attorney is trying to say since again child support is not for Kate to relieve. Sounds like spin to me. Perhaps she didn't object to a different financial arrangement that did not include direct checks to her. But the judge still has to find that 0 support is in the children's best interest regardless of how kate feels about it.
A judge's court can be modified and I believe it has been. Parents can reach a settlement agreement in which child support is refused, then the court typically complies with this request. Custodial parents may opt not to accept child support payments for a variety of reasons, just as there are numerous situations in which a non-custodial parent might reasonably expect not to have to make support payments. Most often, these agreements come about because the non-custodial parent has limited income or makes less than the custodial parent.
If Kate gave up child support, it was not out of the goodness of her heart.
Child support in arrears, even if the noncustodial parent declares bankruptcy, cannot be forgiven.
Susan1956 (#67), oh, yes, TFW's head would explode if Jon got on DWTS! I could just see her starting Twitter parties while the episodes aired, to show how little she cared about what he was doing.
You never know -- he could be asked. And I bet

Were you at Bent Creek or Overlook? You want to stay away from the Yuppie thing. You really don't want either of those places, but I love Lititz. It was voted Coolest Small Town in America. I'm not sure exactly what you are looking for and at what price range, but I've always liked the western part of the county -- Elizabethtown, Mount Joy, East Petersburg, Marietta, and also Strasburg and the homes in the country there, which are far enough away from what you are trying to get away from, and yet close enough for whatever you might want, nice restaurants, shopping, everything close by without having a long commute. Have you thought about Mt. Gretna, or is that too woodsy and quiet for you?
http://mtgretna.com/about-gretna/our-history/
If I can help you at all, just give a shout-out and I'll tell you what areas to stay away from! I was born and raised here, lived here all my life, so I pretty much know the area and so much of what it has to offer. I love having Amish neighbors. The smell of fertilizer during spring planting season, though, not so much. My mother always called it "Essence of Spring." We're "essencing" right now! I do enjoy the mud sales this time of the year!
Good luck in your search, and I wish you good health, peace and quietness!

I tend to believe that, as well as think Jon would be the kind of contestant that makes the most of the opportunity, and gives it his all.
If I were a DWTS producer, I just might gamble on Jon, for the possibility that he could be the underdog story that's a big "hook" for viewers.
Parents don't have to account for child support payments and how they are spent. Many parents prefer instead to pay expenses directly. School tuition, insurance, activity fees, clothing, and all the other many expenses children have, not to mention all their basic needs being met while on your custodial time like appropriate housing, food, activities, etc. All of this can be worked out by court order. Maybe the court order should specify mother shall not imply father does not support his children by means other than direct checks to her she just spends at the spa.

Exactly. The idea that Jon doesn't provide for his kids is just ridiculous. The sheeple, however, will never understand this, and it's not worth the time and effort to try to explain it to them. I'm sure that DWTS wouldn't give a rat's rear end if a few of Kate's sheeple boycotted or not. It's quite funny to think that they would have any influence at all over the show's ratings. If they boycotted the show and he did better than Kate, how would they know it if they didn't watch the show? Wouldn't they abstain from reading anything about the show, Jon's placement at the end, and any internet chatter about him? If you're going to boycott, you boycott and don't sneak a peek about how contestants are faring, so if they were faithful to their cause, there wouldn't be any heads exploding.

You know that attorney may have honestly not thought about the multiple scenrios that could have caused Jon to make that comment, like arrears. Attorneys, believe it or not, sometimes make honest mistakes.
I still think though her characerization of the situation to imply Kate was a martyr and had "given up" something was unfair and inappropriate. It doesn't matter how much Kate wants to give something up, this was about her children and what is best for them financially and otherwise, something her attorney never seems to emphasize. It's all about Kate.

I am always amazed at how many people will set their basic logic aside to take up for Kate. It's that whole "single mom of 8" thing. It's like a shield, and boy, does she know how to use it. I have no doubt that, when the kids have reached late teens/adulthood (in 4 years or so), her fans will still believe that she could never take a mediocre job because of daycare costs. I can hear it now..."She can't leave 6 teenagers to their own devices after school"! The only thing that will slow her down is the kids coming of age and demanding their rightful share of the pay.

--------------------
Are the fans really this slow that they have to tweet Kate? Why can't they check the TLC website? I would think it would be more accurate than asking Kate.
I'm really glad the children are getting the opportunity to watch a parent work an honest, decent every-man job, pounding the pavement from the ground up the old fashioned way and seeing payoff in great successes. They are also seeing that work can be great fun and that there is nothing to fear about hard work and putting yourself out there because the payoff is what a great time you have doing it and, if all goes well, your success. And most importantly they are watching their parent work to support them and not the other way around. Thankfully, they just get to enjoy the fun part of it, playing around with dad's setup, attending a show or two, suggesting songs for the playlist. If they don't want to they don't have to, and nothing about this job is continent upon their participation. That must be such a relief.
I have wondered for some time about exactly what they are digesting about work ethic given all they've been around up until recently is half backed reality stars and reality shows. I also think it is terribly dysfunctional for children so young to feel a sense of obligation to the family job. I am certain at their ages they understand they are important to their reality show and if they don't participate there's a problem, every child star says they have come to this realization eventually. Children are not emotionally mature enough to deal with that responsibility.
Admin (#84), the kids certainly understand their
obligation to filming at this point. Just take
the episode you recapped here. H had an awful headache, but was dragged out shopping because filming was scheduled. Of course families will have situations when they plow ahead. Maybe if a family had tickets to "Hamilton" they'd saved up for for months, and one kid didn't feel too well, they might just take them anyway and hope they felt better in an hour or so. But for the umpteeth filming of school shopping?
Then you have TFW bragging on Twitter about
being sick, and having her kids take care of
her. But their health and welfare takes a back seat to TLC's filming schedule.

As I've said for a long time, I think the kids are learning about being a fame whore from Kate. Why go to college? Why work hard? Why wait for gratification?
Why be mediocre and like the hoi polloi?
Tucker's Mom (#86), I think a decade of filming
could also give a kid an over-inflated sense of
importance. If a TV network has deemed your
every shopping trip and cute remark camera-worthy for 10 years, how do you function when the cameras aren't around? How do you fit in at school?
With friends? And in future workplace and romantic relationships?
The fans may claim the kids all "look" happy and well adjusted. But the fallout from this crazy
social experiment may extend over decades.

And 3 1/2 years later the younger kids will also be adults, and suddenly everyone can demand an equal share. I do not see Kate wanting to split the salary per episode with 8 other people.
------------------------------------------------------
The children do not split 15% of the show's income between them, while Kate gets 85% of the show's income. Kate gets her own separate salary/pay for her appearance. The kids get theirs.
While we don't know what they get paid, the 15% figure is the percentage of each of their income (whatever that is) for each episode (or possibly season, depending on how they are paid) that must be put aside in a trust for them. We don't know where the other 85% goes. That could go in the trust too, if Kate chooses to put it there, or it could just go in personal accounts for them, and most likely Kate controls those funds since they are minors. The law only specifies that 15% of whatever the children earn has to go in their trusts.
According to that same law, it seems that the 15% put in the trust can also be used for the children's expenses, such as schooling, housing, food, clothing, etc. So technically Kate can use all that money to support the children, while they are in her custody.
My feeling, based on an interview Jon did, is that he doesn't pay child support (to Kate) because the children's needs while they are in Kate's care are paid for by their income, not by Kate. It really is the only thing that makes sense. Kate does not support those children financially, they support themselves. So Jon's attorney probably worked that into the figures, so Jon pays for their expenses when they are with him. The kids most likely pay for themselves when they are with Kate.
Also, from past interviews and comments from both Jon and Kate, I think some of the children's income is put aside for college funds. And again, based on the "child support" agreement, I think their current schooling is also paid by the children's income, either the 85% of their earnings, or the 15% in the trust, as allowable by child labor laws.
How do you know that the children are "forbidden" to talk to anyone at school? And if this were true, why would you assume that the kids would follow that directive?
*******
I don't know if the kids are forbidden, and it would get harder and harder to make them keep quiet. But, I do know that from a very early age, Kate has told the kids to not speak about what goes on at home.
If anyone asks, Kate has told the kids to say that they don't talk about that in school.
Kate said this herself on J+K+8, when trying to convince the world that making their show their lives didn't bleed into other things like school. Because, of course, when 10 million people tune in to see your family implode, no one at school will want to ask about it.
Natch.
So, according to the Sheeple Ms. Goofy, she would boycott DWTS if Jon was on? These idiot fans are so ignorant. They scream about people calling anyone associated with Kate to keep her from 'earning' money and yet it's perfectly fine and dandy if they try to stop Jon from earning money.
Tucker's Mom, was the information about the children not being permitted to speak to those at school about the show or life at home in Robert's book? I'm wondering where it originated.

Kate talked about it during a couch interview. The subject of weather the kids' friends ask about filming prompted Kate's b.s. about having the kids say, "we don't talk about it in school".
Totally normal!
I think it was in RH's book, Jane. And I think if Hannah's stand on staying at Jon failed, the kids must feel helpless if even that did not work out.I believe, JMO, they feel frightened of their mother and what she will do and dare not complain or confide in anyone. At the same time, they resent her and see her games but also love her. Very difficult relationship for them at this critical age.

What sane mother wouldn't get everyone into counseling if a child refuses to see their dad?

Thank you for explaining about the kids' pay. It sure sounds like it's just a formality--Kate basically can take everything and claim it's for supporting the kids. I certainly hope they get to go to college, at least. When they start turning 18, they are going to want to know where their money is.
@Tucker's Mom Since Jon said he hasn't seem Collin in over a year and a half,we can conclude that this started sometime in mid 2014.I've said this before but i have no doubt Kate does show the kids negative articles about him. There was alot of negative stories about Jon in 2014.The abandon kitten, the million dollar debt and some others.Could it be that Kate showed the kids these stories and it upset Collin the most?

Can u imagine grabbing child by the neck & forcing his face n2 dog poop?! No me neither. But Kate Gosselin did it.
On Tuesday the 26th they have the last 2 episodes of Counting On at 8 and 9pm. The Duggars season finale--especially two parts--would have been a really strong lead-in for K+8. Instead they are putting the Roloffs on at 10. Perhaps TLC doesn't want to waste that kind of boost on a loser show like K+8. I don't have a problem with that.

@Kateplusmy8 hey Kate just seen your kiddos a few Saturdays ago with John at The Works. I acted like a total super fan, epic fail!
My husband and his ex had a child support agreement in place when they divorced. However, as the kids grew older and had more say in which house they wanted to stay at, both my husband and his ex adjusted the support amounts as needed. They never went to court they just did it. But then again, they had an amicable divorce. Also, he paid his child support directly to her each month via check, which allowed that arrangement to work. I'm not sure if PA requires you pay child support through the court.
So given that I don't think it's beyond the realm of possibility that Jon & Kate came to a mutual agreement that he could drop his support obligation to her in exchange for agreeing to let them film. Likely, Kate gets more money from TLC for the kids salaries then she could hope to get from Jon's court ordered support, and she knows it's dependable whereas Jon's payments can vary depending on his employment, which has been spotty in the past.
Jon, knowing the court sides with Kate on filming the kids anyway, probably figured he couldn't win the battle and figured this option would at least allow him some breathing room to get on his feet.
Mind, this is just my own speculation.
I never made the connection that the kids altogether get 15% of what *they* make. Not 15% of what TFW gets paid. A fine distinction there, that she is all too happy not to differentiate. That is very cleverly worded, in her typical fashion.
I never thought about that TFW gets paid one thing, and the kids get paid one thing, as in two separate entities.
So let's see... $40k/episode for TFW plus expenses (airfare, meals, clothes, deck, new kitchen, bedroom remodel, etc). The kids get paid some minimal amount, like $1k/episode. For all of them, not each.
My husband and his ex had a child support agreement in place when they divorced. Parents can work out things among them without the courts IF they aren't beholden to a court ordered child support order. Jon and Kate went through the courts, though. There are records and minute orders of the fact that he has had official child support orders in place.
It's unlikely Jon sent checks directly to Kate. He probably sent them to the state or county child support board which in turn cut Kate checks. Or he could have had wages garnished directly from paychecks he received from various gigs. So, in order to stop that support, it would have to be approved by either a judge or in some jurisdictions the child support division. In my experience these kinds of things will continue to bill you even if you have custody of the kids! It can be a nightmare to go through the hassle of explaining the change in circumstances to the court and getting the payments righted.
Ironically enough, I'm guessing they COULD have worked out a lot of this without the courts or child support division, if there wasn't an obsessed parental alienator involved. I've seen hundreds of cases where the non-custodial parent sends checks to the other parent, as well as pays for expenses and provides physical support like diapers and formula, all without the courts.
On that note, I hope Kate gave Jon enough allowence so the kids could have a good time at The Works. I'm seeing on Yelp a lot of parents complaining between the overpriced so-so food and all the game tickets you need to buy to play the kiddie games, it ends up being quite an expensive outing.
Thanks for clarifying that Admin. My husband and ex didn't have lawyers, they worked with a mediator and then submitted the completed paperwork to the family court. The child support was listed in the settlement and they did use the family court calculator to determine the amount but he wasn't ordered by a judge. That sounds like the main difference if I'm understanding it correctly.
It is interesting to see the kids grow older and start to see their mom as a person instead of just "mom", esp. M & C. It's the age when you start to see your parents flaws and realize they're not perfect. (That goes for their dad as well, although we don't get to see their impressions of him.)

&&&&
LOL!!!! YES, totally kidding of course!
Kate has said, implied, implicated many times that she pays for everything for the kids. That's obviously nonsense, obviously their father contributes to his children. Therefore the running joke is that, on the many times we've seen proof Jon is with his kids on outings that cost money, often a significant amount of money, that Kate must have given him some allowance for that.
Of course she doesn't give him money to pay for his children on his time, yet sadly, she can't seem to acknowledge that he pays for his own children and what he wants to do with them, including a sufficient roof over their head, food, and all the numerous outings he takes them on. That's not even counting what they have worked out to financially support them when it comes to school, sports medical care and the like.
My apologies for the allowance typo.
On an unrelated note, I find it very interesting that time and time again we see photos or tweets of the kids popping up with Jon doing various normal out-and-about outings in the community, often things that cause a rather large dent in a normal parents' paycheck, like the expensive The Works. Time and time again. Yet, never, ever do we see such outings/sightings/tweets when they are with Kate, unless it's filmed.
This entire saga is all so completely unnecessary. If she simply acknowledged their father's financial and emotional support in their lives like many other celebrity mothers have said of their ex's, this whole big conflict never would have happened. There is no need to go into the finer details of what they've worked out or complain to the public about it. If she has a problem with the role their father is playing, she can go tell the judge like a grown-up.
I never made the connection that the kids altogether get 15% of what *they* make. Not 15% of what TFW gets paid. A fine distinction there,
&&&&
Correct!!!
For every $100 they make, Kate and Jon keep $85 and the kids get $15 put in their account. Kate and Jon COULD save that $85 for them too but they're not required to. Jon has insisted he properly saved for them and they're fine, and I hope he is correct. And that could be another reason Jon got the short end of the stick and ended up worse off financially, because he socked away his money for them and Kate didn't.
15% sounds awful when put it that way but that's the norm in most states. If you think about it few adults sock away 15% of their income. Most only do the company match of 4-5%, which usually gives you a decent nest egg. When you're that young when even 15% is socked away it can be worth a lot more than that when you're 18.
Milo abdicated, or got abducted by an alien.

Who knows? Kate is bad enough. They don't need to make it any worse by exaggerating!
Didn't the start date for a different season of Kate's show get delayed once before after it was announced somewhere?
Admin (#115), TFW doesn't need to schlep to court about her problems with Jon anymore. She has the satisfaction of letting her fans bash him on the regular. Culminating with allowing her make-up artist to share intimate information about her
ex and her children (which may or may not be true) in an extended back and forth with strangers on Twitter. TFW got to stay home and avoid any
costs from Mr. Court Man, and her in-the-know
employee/BFF (until she's kicked to the curb
with the others) painted a vivid picture of a deadbeat dad for all the world to read.
I think there's something to the notion that Deanna was told to knock it off, hence her going private and very quiet on Twitter just after those inappropriate exchanges.
Anyone know how the ratings have been for Counting On?
Tucker's Mom (#122), I read that the Counting On
rating was 1.36 million -- a little higher than

A judge's court order regarding child support can be modified. Who's to say if both parents agree, the judge could modify the order so Jon is relieved of future payments as long as he pays off what was in arrears? Jon earns considerably less than Kate. If Kate were to stop filming, she's take him to court to reinstate the child support. It's to Jon's financial advantage she keep filming. That's why I think he's not complaining about filming, just custody issues.
A judge's court order regarding child support can be modified. Who's to say if both parents agree, the judge could modify the order so Jon is relieved of future payments as long as he pays off what was in arrears
$$$
I think that's exactly what I am saying. Kate can disagree or agree all she wants, the judge still has to make that best interest finding in order to approve a modification. For Kate to make herself out as the martry in all this is just wrong and misleading. She is not the judge and doesn't have the ability to pardon. Certainly she can choose not to contest, but maybe she did so because her lawyer advised her she would lose anyway. Clever and manipulative spin. This is her MO. She also implied she gave Jon the old van. Except that van belonged to both of them. It wasn't hers to give. Even if it were, the alternative would be ditch it for a few grand. Big whoop.

Apparently, Josh is being brought up and the topic was part of the episode, replete with awkward silent moments to build drama.

Anna broached the subject of Josh returning (of course, this was filmed months ago), so you know TLC is boiling the frog.
I think they also baked cookies at some point, which is riveting.
Jon could have signed over the title of the BBB to Kate as part of the divorce settlement and then she signed it over to him when she purchased the Mercedes Sprinter. I don't think it had anything to do with image, just practical sense because initially Jon was transporting all eight kids. She did not want him on the property getting the van. That's just my impression.
I do agree she and/or her attorney implied Kate was being generous by giving Jon a break on child support but he must have applied for a modification after he lost those big pay checks from TLC. She had no choice agree to a modification because Jon was unemployed.
Sometimes the modifications are temporary so he could be paying something again based on his current income. He shacks up with working women so he has a roof over his head, IMO. I don't think he makes much at all being a DJ. I am sure if he had to do it over again, he would not have acted so financially irresponsible during and after the divorce. I don't care for his (or Kate's) whining how costly it is to raise eight children. Both he and Kate are ridiculous but she is bearing the brunt of the finances even if I disagree with how she is doing it.

DH and I have had several cars and some have been "mine" and some "his" and one is both of ours. That's just whose name is on the actual title.
They are all OUR cars.
But, let Kate have her ersatz magnanimous moment. We all know it's b.s.
About Jon's child support, I think he might have agreed to stop objecting to filming. However, to frame it like Kate "relieved" him of child support, and Jon "sold" his kids so he didn't have to financially support them any longer, is disingenuous at best.

----------------------------
This one isn't the season finale, there is another episode about the trip to Central America airing on May 3. TLC is sure pushing the Duggars. The first episode on the 26th is "Counting Down to Counting On", a whole hour of filler promoting the actual show that comes on afterward. They are doing the same thing on May 3rd. Two "premiers" that night with the first one being a Counting Down episode.
I wonder what made TLC change their mind at the last minute. The actually showed a promotional clip for the 10-year anniversary special on TV and had it on their schedule last week. My guess is they are pushing it back until after they can film the tups birthday next month and then start airing the specials in June.

Kate probably got the van in the divorce settlement, because she's the primary parent for school and needs the mode of transport.
It would have been a given that Jon let her keep it.
In the back of my mind, I'm betting that Kate got a pretty discount on the new BBB in exchange for filming it and blogging and tweeting about it (which she did a whole lot when she first got it).

*****
I don't know what Jon's income is, but successful DJs (it seems that from the gigs Jon gets that he'd be considered successful) can, with steady work, quite easily make a solid 6 figure income. IMO, it doesn't come close to what TFW is bringing in, but it's definitely nothing to sneeze at.
My guess is not that she got a deal purchasing the Mercedes from the dealer, but writes off some of the mileage as a business expense since it is used for filming. She may have in her contract TLC pays her a transportation allowance too.
If not for watching the kids as toddlers, I don't believe those 1 million viewers would be very interested in her household at present. Kate is not the draw; it's the kids and how they change.
*******
I don't think the kids themselves are the draw at all. I think people are tuning in to see the conflict between the now adolescent and teen kids vs TFW which is why we see the episodes edited so heavily to include their snark about their mother, the yelling, the conflicts, etc. If the draw was just the kids and how they've changed I think TLC would edit out the conflict rather than focus on it, and how dull would the show be if we were just seeing the changes in the kids? The show is boring enough as it is and if not for waiting to see whether, or more accurately, when and why TFW will do battle with the kids each episode, I don't think anyone could tolerate boring Gosselin family updates.
. Both he and Kate are ridiculous but she is bearing the brunt of the finances even if I disagree with how she is doing it.
&&&&
I respectfully disagre with that. The way she is bearing the expenses is by making her children work. She should not be taking credit for "supporting" them if the way she is doing it is simply by exploiting them. Unless she could carry the show all by herself, which she clearly can't, they are the reason she is making any dough right now.
Jon chose not to make them work anymore and with that came a big pay cut. We also don't know who pays for school, insurance, sports, etc.
I think they have both been incredible irresonsible with money. The very fact that Kate upgraded to and continues to live in a house like that not knowing when or IF she is getting another season of her reality show ever again, shows how irresponsible she remains financially. That's very different than a DJ job and many other more regular jobs, which can and should last foever.
As far as DJ's salary, it depends. He is playing some rather major clubs and very regularly--he may be making a very good living. It's on Kate to take him back for more support if she feels there is a change in circumstances. I don't know why she needed to tell the pubilc about the van situation at all but for to try to manipulate the public's perception situation--THAT is my point, not the arrangement itself. If she kept it quiet I would have nothing to say about it one way or the other. They can do whatever they want in their break-up, be as generous or not-so as they like. But when they do something in the effort to sway public opinion, and make it pubilc, that's manipulative, and she darn well knows it.
My hunch with this DJ career is based on the quality of the gigs he is getting.
No, you probably won't make much if all you do are two-bit weddings on the weekends. DJ's doing that are a dime a dozen and most work other jobs. This is not that. This s not that kind of DJ. These are major, trendy clubs that are doing huge promotions for him. His work is steady and consistent. He appears to be building a brand name for himself in the DJ world and getting recognition for it. I would guess six-figures too, which is great for him, as he has a lot of kids to raise and would prefer not to exploit them doing so.
This year has made me rethink passing over concerts. So many times, I don't go because tickets are $$$, or I'd have to travel.

At the time of the divorce, Kate was looking at a J+K+8 viewer spike of about 7 million viewers-up to a whopping 10M-for their "separation" announcement show.
This sh*t was turning into TV gold!
Kate was a HOT commodity, always appearing on some magazine cover or tv talk show, and her book tour was on fire.
Not to mention high-value endorsements were not in Kate's rear-view mirror at the time.
As long as Kate could have control of the kids, and all that entails, the gravy train would keep on rolling. The sky was the limit.
What I'm saying is that Kate has made the bed she's in right now, but the kids are working to pay for it. Not just Kate. Not by a long shot.
There are many things Kate could do in order to reduce her financial burden, but she won't. She continues to play the short game, and it's a big gamble.
The short game is reality tv and being a media personality. The long game is like what Jon's doing. He is establishing an actual career-the type you can work at until you retire, doing a slow burn and living a mediocre life.
I still think the best thing Kate could have done at the time of the divorce would have been to close the filming shop, circle the wagons around the kids, protect their privacy, give them safe seclusion to work through the trauma of divorce by getting them off tv and shutting the f*ck up about Jon and about them.
Then, used some of the big bags of money she's made and furthered her nursing degree, and re-enter her career on a management and administrative track.
Good money, solid career, great benefits, and most of all, SECURITY.
You can't gamble and whine because it's not panning out.

Yup, Prince is gone. My goodness, what a HUGE star, innovator and talent he was. One of a kind and revolutionary in many ways.
I'm tipping my Raspberry Beret to you, Prince.
This year has made me rethink passing over concerts. So many times, I don't go because tickets are $$$, or I'd have to travel.
That's changing. I've missed opportunities that will never come by again. Life is short.

Jon's highest paid DJ job in 2015 at Harrah's for $20k. I haven't heard of any high paying gigs like that lately, but I do hope he is successful and sticks with it. It does seem to be a good fit rather the other jobs he tried. I do give him credit for not playing the TLC pretend game for the "brand".

Ah, but how you gonna keep 'em down on the farm, and all that? She tasted the good life, wanted to keep it going at all cost. I think, though, the bottom line is that she is just plain too lazy to work like the common folk. I mean, why should she when she's rubbed elbows with the rich and famous? She deserves the best and gosh darn it, she's going to get it regardless if she has to use the kids to do it. She will figure out some way to keep that gravy train on its tracks, and as long as TLC is dumb enough to throw a few bones her way, she's a happy camper. However, it's her fault that she set fire to so many bridges along the way. She never quite figured out that you just don't bite the hand that feeds you.

Yes, we did and I'm going again this year. You just never know if and when he is going to stop touring and just keep doing the gig in NYC. Are you going in July?
I have to laugh when I think about some of Kate's sheeple who maintained that the "locals" weren't local and didn't even live in this country. If that were true, it would be quite a hike to get to these local concerts!
His gigs in just the past month or so:
Building 24
Finish Line Pub
The Dusk Complex
Yorgos
Hardly my imagination. It's all on his instagram. Not to mention the charity event. Not sure why it's so hard to accept Jon has made a career out of this without his kids, and is, based on the quality of these venues, likely banking good money too. I would think folks would be happy for him.

I can't be happy for someone based on your fantasy. If he's enjoying himself, great. But the idea that he is raking in the dough from no cover night at the local tavern is laughably far-fetched. Sorry about that.

If he has steady and consistent work at clubs like that, chances are he is bringing in a steady, good income. I think you're thinking of kiddie birthday parties or something. I remember all the expenses for our prom and none of it was cheap, the venue nor the DJ. The venue didn't care if it was a prom, wedding, or corporate event, the DJ price was the DJ price, and as I recall it was at least a few grand.
This is not a bar mitzvah where you pay your uncle 50 bucks to DJ.
It's really too bad folks want to put down a career that is certainly well capable of supporting a family, even if you slide in a few birthday parties here and there to supplement or because you know the person.
When Jon starts propping his kids up on the DJ stage so people can ogle them, that's when I will question whether this DJ career is a good choice for the father of 8. Until then, I don't see the problem.

Right? I'm really bummed that Billy is coming during my vacation week otherwise I would be there. Last year I had nosebleed seats and you had the good ones iirc
I'm sorry you feel 1-2 grand for a prom DJ is bullshit. It is what it is and that was how expensive it was. No DJ worth their salt is going to charge $400 for the night and be done with it. They're not that stupid.
I did a quick google search to see if I was not out of my mind and indeed it's just as I remembered, prom venues are estimated today to cost anywhere from $6,000 to over and beyond $20,000 bucks, not including all the extras. At a public school in Palo Alto up the road, they spent $75,000. The school did not break even and in fact lost on it. It's not an unfair comparison as there are many upper middle class neighborhoods similar in southwestern PA. In fact it's generally quite a well off area compared to other areas of PA. http://palyvoice.com/2012/03/30/node-30635/
I had a class of 300, a good 80% of that attended most with a date, so we needed something more than the local fire hall. We had it at a major hotel chain in the city, the venue plus dinner and DJ, and also $100 for a couple's ticket. It was well over 15 grand and was nothing overly fancy. It was just a fairly big amount of people to accommodate. We were simple blue collar folks but the community always makes a big deal of prom and everyone saves up for it. We didn't do a junior or senior trip or anything like that so most people didn't complain about having a nice prom for $100.
I haven't the foggiest idea why you're so intent on minimizing Jon's successful career or poo-pooing those who work proms and other events. You are assuming those putting on those events are doing so on the cheap and have hired their entertainment on the cheap, and that is not a fair assumption as such events can be VERY costly.
Do you always look down on people who work such venues? What about people who work weddings, funerals, and corporate conferences, are they subject to your shaming too? It's a shame we can't all be supportive of careers that don't exploit children. He has no obligation to you to make loads of money. He can work out the kind of money he can or should be making with his children's mother and the courts. I'm sure they can handle it without your weighing in.
Reality Check (156): "I can't be happy for someone based on your fantasy. If he's enjoying himself, great. But the idea that he is raking in the dough from no cover night at the local tavern is laughably far-fetched. Sorry about that. "
)))))))))))))))
If you're sorry about it, why bring it up? Just to be able to get that daily fix at poking and picking at admin and other posters? You might find much of it laughable; I think arguing just for the sake of arguing is childish and immature.
Out of curiosity I checked out a random DJ package for weddings, parties and proms from a DJ company in York, Harrisburg and Lancaster, close enough to Jon's hood. Their very basic, basic package is about $800 discount included. Dozens of different optional add ons are available anywhere from 50 to 175 bucks each, including lighting, smoke, Photo Booth, etc. All extra cost. Overtime is $100 an hour. And they advertise this package as the most economical option you can find around, so I assume it would be hard to find anything cheaper in the area assuming they've got their market right.
Base price of 800 plus 100 an hour beyond that? Not a bad payday for one night. Now change it up to a DJ who is a DJ "name" and not just a random company, who is playing venues and not just weddings, and you can get a fair idea of what he is making.
I was not at all off the mark to say our DJ cost us 1-2 grand. That sounds right on the money for a four hour DJ with all the bells and whistles, according to this site. Again, this is not your uncle playing with his iPod and sound mixer. These are professionals who take pride in their work and reputation and command a fair pay for it. That's who we wanted for our prom, not Uncle Dave.
http://soundwavesentertainment.com/weddings/wedding-dj-packages-and-specials/
The son of a friend of mine is a DJ. He's been doing it for over 20 years and has built himself a very
good business. Central Illinois is not the flashiest place, but there are plenty of gigs out there for him.
Wedding DJ is one of the priority expenses for young couples and they will spend as much on a good DJ as they do on flowers, which can average a couple thousand dollars for service and reception tables.
Average even $1,000 per gig, times 4-5 gigs a month, and you've got a nice income. If you're good, it's a steady one.
If Jon is making six figures, then he needs to be paying child support and if I were Kate, I would take him back to court. It does not matter that she makes more; the father should be paying what he can reasonably afford.
Admin (#160), and as I've said before, DJ work
is recession-proof. People are always going
to have parties and assorted events. And it's
the kind of work that breeds other work. A successful gig gets you more gigs.
TFW also had a recession-proof career, nursing, but prefers to wait by the phone for TLC to tell
her they're going to film another 6 episodes.
TLC stinks (165):
"If Jon is making six figures, then he needs to be paying child support and if I were Kate, I would take him back to court. It does not matter that she makes more; the father should be paying what he can reasonably afford."
))))))))))
If both parties are in agreement about child support, and if all of this has been run through the court and Kate isn't complaining, then it is their business about who is paying what, how much he is contributing and whatever other financial arrangement they have worked out.

----------------------------
How do we know he isn't? Ms blabbermouth lawyer blabbed a long time ago. Things may have changed since then.
Not that I necessarily think he should pay Kate. Remember that she needn't spend any money he pays her on the kids, but can add it to her spa fund. Maybe Jon would rather spend money directly on the kids than give it to Kate to have it spend goodness knows how.
@TLC stinks Someone correct me if im wrong but wasn't the deal they made that he would have no say in filming in exchange for not paying child support? So if Kate did bring him to court or made another deal for with him to pay her child support again wouldn't that mean he would have a say in filming again?Maybe im thinking it the wrong way.

No. That's the story that was floated around and never confirmed.

I AGREE. I don't trust Kate for one second to properly spend her child support checks on the children, and by law she's not required to account for how she spends them, not one cent. It could all go to the spa and no one can do anything about it. Terrible.
The children are clearly well cared for financially and have a life most children could only dream of. I don't see that they are suffering for needing more financial support from either mother or father. That being the case, they're not hungry, improperly clothed or lacking in great shelter, education or access to all that they need and want, I'd rather Jon put any extra money he is making in their trust where Kate can't touch it, as well as work it out where he pays for things DIRECTLY and bypass Kate all together, like school and medical care. He may have. The **last*** thing you do is cut a check directly to the parental alienator, bad idea.
As far as child support, it is a complex calculation. In CA we plug it into a program called Dissomaster that spits out a number. What you are making is but one component of Disso's calculation. It is not the only one or even a major one, as it's about more what you COULD make, your "potential" not what you actually do make. For instance if Jon's skills are a DJ but he sits at home all day maybe does one gig a year and never makes much money, the court is going to look at what he SHOULD be making as a DJ, not what he actually is. For that they'd look at average DJ's in the area, and see that most average ones are charging at least 900 bucks a gig and booking gigs every weekend.
If both parties are in agreement about child support, and if all of this has been run through the court and Kate isn't complaining, then it is their business about who is paying what, how much he is contributing and whatever other financial arrangement they have worked out.

Prince died in his house's elevator????
Good heavens.
Regarding TFW's spending, I can't help thinking about that rambling blog post, where she said building the deck was the single most important thing she'd ever done for her family's mental
and physical well being. To me, that signaled that it wasn't a complete freebie -- it was something she paid at least part of. Promoting the deck company also seemed to confirm that (she's not known for doing things out of the goodness of her heart). She hadn't posted a
blog for months, and suddenly felt the need
for a pre-emptive strike to silence the people
who might say, you have a purseful of bills,
and you feel like building an addition to your house is a sound idea?
TFW claimed to save up for the deck for months, but she didn't specify whose money she was using for it. Not saying at all that she spent the kids' money, but she sure was anxious to say how important it was for their welfare.
That's correct, we don't know anything about their child support agreement. All we know is that Kate has custodial and legal custody. If she and Jon reached an agreement to relieve him of child support, she cannot keep him away from any of his children. Why she has gotten away with this is more than perplexing or someone is lying.
I don't know what Jon earns but as a DJ doing mostly local gigs, he's not, IMO, making a six figure salary. He's not working in NYC, LA or Vegas. However, unless he and Kate have mutually agreed to relieve him of child support, he is obligated to pay some reasonable amount based upon his wages and HERS. A lot of ex-husbands hate paying child support because they know the ex-wives are not spending it on the kids, but they have to pay regardless unless there was an agreement or some drastic change such as a job loss. This whole discussion evolved because I questioned why Jon is not vocal about the filming but vocal about visitation. I believe he benefits financially that Kate continues making over $300k a year because he either pays little child support or none by mutual agreement. Therefore, he TACITLY is ok with the kids filming despite his protest years ago. I think BOTH parents have used the kids as pawns to make money. Jon is the better parent as far as relating to his kids, but he is not blameless when it comes to the filming.
The son of a friend of mine is a DJ. He's been doing it for over 20 years and has built himself a very
good business. Central Illinois is not the flashiest place, but there are plenty of gigs out there for him.
&&&&
I'm not surprised, it's a good career. I imagine a lot of people like it as well because it frees up a lot of their days. They can be home, be around for the kids, available if a kid is suddenly sick at school and needs to go home, time to do shopping and other errands, and make a great income on the weekends or nights.
It's also pretty recession proof. There's always going to be weddings, clubs, corporate events, proms. Someone will always need a DJ. There's no danger you will suddenly lose your career as there is when you're on a reality show. Very few reality show stars have made a stable career of it. They can be counted on one hand, and those that have almost always have many other things going for them besides the show, like the Kardashians. Kate's not an actress who when her show is cancelled can just read a new script and audition for another role. She's not a Kardashian where if the show is cancelled she's got multiple other sources of income and wouldn't' have to worry. It's much worse than that. Her ONLY "talent" is being herself, she doesn't have her hand in any other honey pots, and when no one wants that anymore there will be nothing else she can do.
DJings is really one of the most responsible and reasonable careers paths either of these parents have ever taken, finally.
The truth is I sense resentment from Kate and her fans about this. They know all of the above is true, and it chaps their hides Jon has found his niche. I find that very sad and just indicative that this is not really about being supportive of the kids and what is best for them, but it is all about supporting Kate in her never-ending hatred and resentment toward her sperm donor.
Here's yet another DJ, of Denver's "Jammin' DJ's" pegging the price of a GOOD prom DJ at about $1500, exactly down the middle what I said we paid at our prom for OUR good DJ. I'm sorry Reality Check calls "bullshit" on what my high school paid but that is the price that is popping up all over the internet, proof it is NOT bullshit. This writer is a DJ, so I trust his assessment of the cost:
For example, let’s say you have 500 people coming to your Prom. You have a choice of an okay DJ company for $200 for the night with little or no lighting and no special effects like lasers, smoke and concert style lighting or an amazing DJ company with all the above for $1,500. Your incremental ticket price for the okay company is $200/500 = $0.40 per ticket, and for the amazing DJ company it would be $1,500/500 = $3.00 per ticket or at $10.00 per ticket, the profit not including the venue or catering about be $3,500. Base your decision on whether the increase from one cost per ticket to the next is the best decision for your group

Admin (#176), I think TFW's reality star value
is even less than you described it. Her "shtick" is being the frazzled mother of 8 little kids.
But in 13 months, she'll have 8 teenagers. So
the clock is really ticking on her brand.
Unfortunately for TFW, the twins are way too
young to go the Duggar girl route and start a
new generation of babies (and series) for the
fans to ooh and aah over. At least I hope
they're too young. But once they turn 16,
I wouldn't be a bit surprised if TFW took
the opportunity to start tweeting about their dating lives, and try to build episodes and
interest around that. She is shameless.
The truth is I sense resentment from Kate and her fans about this. They know all of the above is true, and it chaps their hides Jon has found his niche.
------------------
I'm not really sure that they do know that this is true. Are they really that smart to figure it out? Moreover, I don't think they'd give him credit for anything that he does, even if he went to law school and set up a practice or followed in his father's footsteps and became a dentist. They'd find something wrong with any career he chose. That's just the way they are.
TFW claimed to save up for the deck for months, but she didn't specify whose money she was using for it. Not saying at all that she spent the kids' money, but she sure was anxious to say how important it was for their welfare.
------------
Don't you feel sorry for all of the kids who are growing up without a Deckster? Their well-being and happiness just isn't being addressed and satisfied. It's a real shame.
I don't know, admin. It just sounds to me like this one particular poster has a permanent knot in her knickers and really doesn't give a hoot about Jon's DJ gigs, but rather just wants to be contrary. The topic doesn't matter as long as she can find fault with what you and others have said. It wears thin after a while and has come to be predictable.
I believe ya PA Dutch Mom ... from what I can see, Jon does 2-3 regular gigs a week, not just one a month, with some larger and charity gigs thrown in now and then. Seems pretty steady to me. I'm not the biggest Jon fan but seems he has found his way finally; not everyone knows or finds what they want to do or a steady job straight out of high school, each of us has our own path, seems this is his.
My nephew is getting married in July, lives in a rural area in upstate NY. His fiancee is related to a full time DJ (in a larger city) and he is discounting his price for them, still they are paying $800, which everyone considers to be a really good deal. So I think Admin is pretty close in her figures for DJ prices.
Wouldn't Jon have a manager/agent that make the bookings and get a percentage? I don't think the fee is entirely his.
Wouldn't Jon have a manager/agent that make the bookings and get a percentage? I don't think the fee is entirely his.
&&&
I can't remember if I noticed he refers people to his manager for bookings or anything like that. I'm not sure he's THAT big.
If he does have a manager, he is likely making far more than the 800-1500 the average DJ is making a pop, so it wouldn't be a concern he is losing money to a manager. There are the mom and pop DJ's, and then there are the big time DJ'S who you are paying as much for the personality themselves as for the skills. Those are the people who play the bigger clubs, etc. Clearly he's trying to get into that second group but not sure if he's there yet.

Not a flattering story about Jon and his DJ abilities. Could be sour grapes but it confirms some of my intuition about him. He may be doing a better job now as he was just starting out when this interview appeared, but DJ Koolie Kirk claims Jon cheated and used him although no contract for Harrah's was presented. The thing about it, it reminded me of Kate and Beth's falling out. Oh well. So disappointing for those kids.
@TLC stinks that article was from june 2015 and i remember Jon tweeted that he had text proof that the guy backed down from the gig,so if true then i don't think he used the guy.Funny and interesting thing about that story is that even Msgoody (who doesn't even like Jon) even admitted that the guy came off as a huge whiner to her.

That was a woman who was devoted emotionally and financially to this family, spent incredible amounts of time with her children and had developed deep bonds with them, even had a hand in raising them, was there for them through an incredible ride, and then with all that history behind them entered into a contract with someone she thought was her friend and a contract she thought was fair, only to be absolutely kicked in the gut by her friend and made to never see the children again. It was personal, and devastating.
Given everything we saw of Beth, I find her to be much more credible than Kate and I believe her version of events. I believe she had every intention of upholding a fair and just contract and instead was betrayed.
And Beth's story has never been disproven by Kate, just denied.
I hadn't read that article since it came out and forgot most of this.! Check out this part where Jon's mentor was mad that Jon didn't call him by his "full" stage name, oh the horrors. Um, I really don't think anyone is trying to diss him just by shortening his name, like everyone does to people's names stage names or otherwise. Is someone dissing Robert Redford when they call him just Bob? As I've heard numerous celebrities do in interviews?
“my boy DJ Koolie, he’s been my friend for a long time” …he just wrote DJ Koolie [not Koolie Kirk], because Jon feels threatened by me because I’m really good"
Then the guy complains Jon didn't put his name on the flyer, yet never says they ever had an agreement to do so, and complains that he kept warning Jon to ask for this or that (Jon can ask or not ask for what he wants, he's under no obligation to this guy.) You've got to make sure you're communicating what you expect of someone clearly before going around saying they're failing on an understanding you had that you never made clear in the first place.
The guy then goes into a long thing about how to him DJing is an art (hate to break it to him but many people see nothing artful in it) and is implying Jon was more using DJing to reinvent himself and less about the art. Again, that's Jon's choice what DJ is to him, it's really none of this guy's business what DJing means to someone else and whether they're doing it for the "art" of it or any other reason. Photography is an absolute ART to me, but I don't go around getting all pissed off that many people want to take a bunch of crappy phone selfies of a gorgeous landscape and call it a day. Who cares, it's not my problem.
The guy sounds like he has a real ego. Actually, he sounds a little paranoid/irrational, making such a big deal about absolutely nothing. I'm not a fan of these whiney stage types, it feels like most of them are like this. Except Prince, RIP.
OK, I had no idea what that was about. Drama always when it comes to the Gosselins I guess.
