Discussion Thread: Beach Time! 12/27/2016

Beach Time!
Kate and the kids explore the Alabama beach shores during summer vacation! Kayaking, parasailing and a family Segway tour are in the mix and of course, there is always chaos! Then the Gosselins' head back home to train their adorable puppies. 60 Min. |

and of course, there is always chaos!

^&&&&&

Couple things, why are the episode titles on these shows always so unoriginal? Two, the exclamation points permeating all the episode descriptions are just downright stupid. Can the episode descriptor man please talk in a calm voice for once?

Finally, see how even in the episode description they're emphasizing the mayhem? I may be in the minority but I don't think Kate's fears are real at all, not in the SLIGHTEST, or at the very least they are grossly exaggerated. She is WAY too laser focused. If she wants to jump off a bridge she'll darn well do it and suck it up, if there's something in it for her. And who grows up in PA with all those creeks and lakes and swimming pools and doesn't know how to swim? Was she the brat who refused to go to swimming lessons and it wasn't worth forcing her? Incredibly reckless to not know how to swim and own a pool. God forbid what if there's a child floating on the bottom of the pool someday. And all she can do is sit there and call 911 when she could have saved their life right there? Unbelievably irresponsible.

Anyway, she does this stupid fear freak-out thing for two reasons. One, of course, for the attention of it. But two, because she's caught on that her "schtick" with TLC is the crazy life angle with eight kids. So she has to ramp up the craziness even if most or all of the children are handling situations in a very non-crazy and reasonable way. She KNOWS when she screams and carries on that's a sound byte, a clip in the promos, and the "hook" of the show (no matter how dumb).

How incredibly, incredibly sad to behave in a way that is not genuine simply to create story arcs in episodes. And how emotionally detrimental to your parentified children who have to pick up the pieces.

Oh and also, all of this is so incredibly disrespectful to people who really do suffer from fears and phobias. It would be nice if someone not really crippled by anxiety would stop pretending they are.

Ah Julie, you're a pearl among swine. :)

I watched LPBW and Outdaughtered. They ran ads for K+8 during both. They ads showed the family smiling sand laughing with the puppies. Maybe it will help tonight.

Amy Roloff had a date. She went on a motorcycle ride and ate at a little pub type place with the guy. It was so normal. No helicopter ride or trip to NYC. It was relatable. That probably works in the family's favor as far as viewers are concerned.

Outdaughtered had a very obvious plug for Little Caesars pizza. The consumerism begins.

Time for Breaking Bad.

Man, Kate is HORRIBLE!!! I just saw for the first time how Kate acted on the boat. All the kids were having a blast and then she had to sob and kill all their joy. There was one shot were all the kids' faces were so downtrodden because of her.

If she is truly that afraid of heights, then DO NOT go parasailing. Just go on the boat and enjoy your kids. She is an ass. She has to make everything about her. It is so old too. She is so lucky NONE of her fears have rubbed off on her children.

That is often what this what I would call HISTRIONIC behavior is about. Attention. I'm not as good as Vanessa at finding all the good scholarly articles from the therapists about these disorders, but here's one that explains histrionic behavior. She's textbook:

" An inappropriate over-reaction to bad news or disappointments, which diverts attention away from the real problem and towards the person who is having the reaction."

"Sabotage - The spontaneous disruption of calm or status quo in order to serve a personal interest, provoke a conflict or draw attention."

And that's it. Going by the Twitter Party, this week was as dismal a failure as the last few episodes. A couple hundred comments by randoms (although not too many long-time fans were around tonight); Milo and K8 each tweeted about 30 times; Nicole, the nurse who wrote the book that's still sitting unread by Kate's bed, was back tonight and good for 4-5 tweets. And from what can be pieced together by the tweets, the beach trip didn't sound like a whole lotta fun for anyone.

I thought TLC was planning a new, relaxed, more fun K8? It sounds like she just couldn't act her way out of who she really is.

Haha, and now Milo wants her to say whether or not more filming's going to happen. She really likes to rub those sore points, doesn't she?

Kates anger isn't being hidden very well, and you can always see her anger at a slow boil just underneath the surface. She snaps at the kids, and several times snapped TOWARDS the kids. It was as though her instinct was to lash out at them, but because she was on camera she had to control herself and her frustration showed .

If this show is renewed Kate is going to have to find out a new schtick. And many on facebook are still asking about Collin.

I expect to see ratings higher this week due to holiday break and more promotion. I think it would take a miracle for it to break a million, though. It would have to almost double last week's viewers. Not likely.

I hope people never stop asking about Collin. It's not right that she should just craft an explanation and never be asked about him again. Why should anyone give her the benefit of the doubt? She has lied and lied and lied. She's asking people to doubt what they've seen of that child with their own eyes over YEARS of this family being exhibited on TV. And she thinks a few lines in People and some "plodding and chugging" double-talk in tab interviews is enough of an explanation?

If in fact that child was or is violent or acting out, I have no doubt he was under extreme provocation. Pretty much his entire life.

But here's the thing. TLC doesn't care if the comments are brutal, scathing, of whatever. They care that people are watching and if that's what it takes (Kate's immaturity, nastiness, narcissism, and being a biotch) to get people to watch, they'll continue to film. It's all about the Benjamins.

Just watched tonight's show. Ugh! Purse boy was in the boat when they were parasailing. What a spectacle she was. And she was busting out of her top. She was very rude to the kayak guy and the Segway guy was stunned by the fighting, ungrateful kids. If Kate had been on a Segway before it didn't show. It's so easy. The house they stayed in was in a beautiful location. And the puppies are adorable but she had to make it all about her. Next week looks awful. That is all.

But people aren't watching. They're tuning out in record numbers. The folks at TLC HAVE to see some connection to the massive tuning out and the social media comments. I'm not sure how anyone can say there isn't at least a little correlation. On the one hand you have a bunch of people expressing disgust at her behavior and how she's handled the Collin situation, on the other the ratings are tanking like never before. This isn't rocket science, folks, and I can't imagine TLC doesn't get it.

@Kateplusmy8 @Mydmaxx @TLC He got trained when you shipped him and Nala back to breeders for a year.

I just realized the creepy parallel to how she handled the dog when he was too much to deal with vs how she handles her own son.

Both got shipped back to the manufacturer. If you didn't see this coming with her own child you should have.

So if she lies and lies and lies, and people keep asking about him, but whatever comes out of her mouth are just lies, what is accomplished? No matter what she says, she's likely not to be believed. It's kind of a vicious cycle, a Catch-22.

&&&&

The questions about Collin, which I also agree should never stop, are really not about how Kate answers them nor about where he actually is. This is more complicated than that. Let her keep lying. She will. That's not the point.

Mind you, I've always wanted to learn to kayak. Always always always! It's so much harder than I ever imagined!

&&&&

Um. No, it's not. Take a deep breath, calm down, and kayaking is easier than picking your nose. What is wrong with her and why is she always so off about this kind of thing? The biggest challenge we ever had with kayaking growing up is when someone stole the kayak.

Segway guide: "Do you guys always complain this much? Wow."

Wow is right.

&&&

That's embarrassing. Wouldn't a normal parent be just mortified that someone giving you a tour or lesson is remarking about your bellyaching? I'd consider that a huge wake up call something is wrong. And this happened twice?!

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 71

I don't think that any child should mouth off to a parent, or talk back. A child could, of course, express an opinion or tell a parent how he/she feels, but I don't agree on talking back, even though Kate deserves it.

&&&&

We've been discussing this point for about a week now. I agree with you, no matter how terrible Kate is, the kids shouldn't talk back. The kids overall need to start behaving. It's really only hurting them, because it makes them look rude, immature, ungrateful, and disrespectful. They look like poorly disciplined and ungrateful kids. Kids, frankly, nobody wants to be around. All of this is Kate's fault, of course, but like I have said many times, lots of kids get dealt shitty hands and they don't act like this. Do you know how many foster kids I know who have by all standards TERRIBLE home life situations, who still are polite, kind, and respectful to everyone? If they can do it these kids can too.

They got dealt a shit hand. They'll need lots of therapy for it. But this constant whining and overall terrible behavior isn't going to get them anywhere. The two best behaved kids, the ones who let Kate roll off them and don't engage in her histrionics as the others do, Aaden and Joel, are probably going to transition to adult life with Kate as their mother the easiest. They clearly have accepted her for who she is, don't dwell on it, and I have no doubt they will be emotionally ready to decide for themselves what their adult relationship with her will be when the time comes. They may very well be the first to estrange her, ironically, because they are leaps and bounds emotionally ahead of the other children. It's those emotionally stable and aware children who realize the quickest the kinds of boundaries they need to set for their own protection.

I think that as long as they are making money, TLC will continue to keep her on, either with regular episodes, specials or just as filler. They'll string her along, and even if she brings in a scant amount of money, they will keep her on the back burner because some money is better than none at all.

While they don't "get it" the way that we do, it appears they are not going to cut her off cold turkey.

I hope I'm wrong. It will be interesting to see the ratings this week.

Most men can't stand uber-bitchy women who are loud, fussy and act immaturely.

&&&&

No, they can't. There were a lot of theories leading up to and post-election, supported by statements from numerous men themselves, that Hillary was hitting a nerve with men and their aversion to that type of woman. And it was unfair. But there really was something about her voice and tone, the way she phrased things, the paternalism and scolding, that was hitting that sore spot, that was dredging up bad memories of ex wives, ex girlfriends, bad mother in laws. It was unfair, it was probably sexist, but it is what it is. Hillary lost huge with men. You have to think there's something to that.

At the end of the day men can be very traditional in that many just want a woman who is quiet, affable, doesn't get upset, doesn't screech, doesn't scold. Just takes care of them calmly with a smile. They can't help it. Over and over again we've seen people providing services to this family, namely men, absolutely recoiling at her behavior. There is something to this.

But to try to pass this one-percent lifestyle of privilege and pampering as #MomLife is an insult to real single parents who are really piecing and patching to hold their families together.

I think a lot of that was lack of intervention from Kate. She has always let the kids duke it out between themselves. They were locked in the basement for hours everyday with no supervision and I think they have developed a sort of hierarchy among themselves.

That being said, it's a poor reflection on Kate that the kids don't appreciate things because SHE doesn't appreciate them, either. She EXPECTS people to gift her & has taught the same values to the kids.

I'm positive that the kids who visit Jon will be happier and more grounded than the others. These kids have been isolated from the real world and normal activities their entire lives.
Have any of the tups even spent the night with a friend? Gone skating with other kids without their brothers or sisters? They really don't know how other families work. A rude or possibly enlightening awakening awaits them someday soon.

We have kayaks at church camp. We let any kid who can swim two lengths of the pool use a kayak. Wear a life jacket and get 3 seconds of instruction. (There is a lifeguard.) If Kate was on a river, it's not like she can mess up and float upstream. If on a lake, at worst you go in a circle. It's not hard. I'm sure these weren't Olympic rapids.

The heights thing is also a lie I think. I am truly afraid of heights and I cannot go parasailing or bungee jumping or anything. The fear is real. And she's such a crappy mother about it. My mother is afraid of heights but my father loves roller coasters. She never said we shouldn't enjoy them, she never threw fits about them. She calmly sat on a bench in the shade. I don't do coasters either but my siblings love them. Let your kids find their own way.

I just do not believe that TLC/Figure 8 could be liability-proof in this situation. They are dealing with minors who have not been given a choice. Especially if any of Collin's "issues" can be traced back to all the public exposure and having to fake it for the cameras.

TLC isn't even trying anymore. The first 45 minutes was strictly bouncing from one expensive activity to the other. Barely showed the inside of the beach house other than a scene where they went down to the dock and had breakfast. Of course that turned into them playing on a huge water trampoline and blob that belonged to their neighbors. It was a 'lets watch how the 1% does a vaca - para sailing for 7, suuuure everyone can afford that! How about we take a Segway tour. I mean doesn't everyone do that x 7? And then Kayaking to help 'give back'. But lets not listen to the guide and then scream the entire time he's trying to explain what to do. Honestly Kate, Kayaking is not that hard. If you are going in the opposite direction you want to go, then move your paddle the opposite way. There are only a few ways to navigate.

Seriously, this was the most boring of the other episodes.

If Kate was smart about it, she would have worked hard to get past her grievances with Jon and got on with the business of co-parenting.
Jon could and should have much more responsibility with his children, but Kate wanted all the credit. God forbid anyone think Kate is not the martyr, but what she's done is push all help and support away.
She'll always choose to cut off her nose to spite her face, and I think her isolating herself is coming home to roost.
I don't doubt she's overwhelmed much of the time, but this has been entirely her choice.
I think she's paying for it (she's not looking good, really), but has too much pride and too much of her 'single mom' image at stake to actually reach out to mend fences and get support.
What a sad reality she's created for herself. The unhappiness and discord just oozes from this whole family.

In my experience people with true phobias, like heights, aren't screaming and carrying on. Rather they tend to act embarrassed, and don't want people to know their heart is beating a mile a minute. They get quiet, they may quietly disappear from the group, and when asked what's wrong they often will deny it or downplay it, have excuses for why they are not participating that has nothing to do with the phobia, though stick to their guns about not doing the activity.

That's another reason I don't believe her phobias. She just doesn't act like most people do. Most people don't go into hysterics.

As far as the kids bring rude to Kate: hey, when they're filming, they are on equal terms with her. So if she's rude, why can't they be??

Perhaps these kids would get along great on a vacay IF a camera wasn't shoved in their face the entire time. Put yourselves in their shoes... imagine your last vacation with a camera crew! Stand here, don't move, wear this, time for makeup! Say this line, oops, say it again. Go stand there, let's shoot that scene again. See that great landmark over there? In a general example, what if a man is with a woman who is not only emotionally, but physically abusive? Is he supposed to just sit back and take the abusive? Either way, I just don't think it was right for him to say "I don't care if they're trying to kill you, you don't ever touch a girl". So what are they supposed to do then? This is just based on my own personal opinion.

&&&

The kids were pretty little at the time. You start with the basics, never touch a girl. Then as they get older you elaborate on that, and you get into more complex areas like what to do if YOU are the victim of abuse. But, a foundation of never touching the girl is something I completely agree with. (The same should be taught to girls, you never abuse boys either, or anyone, but that's beside the point)

I'm sure Jon's life lessons have evolved. Joel and Aaden are such sweet boys. That has to be a reflection of Jon. They are the ones spending time with him.

No one on Little People freaks out. All the kids are calm, pretty mellow, roll with the punches. I mean it's pretty obvious the reason they go on all the trips and whatnot is because there isn't really much else going on with the Gosselins. LPBW for example has kids getting married and potentially starting families, etc. It won't get to the point for the Gosselins for another few years down the road (and that's IF they want to continue filming). However, it was a bit excessive this season with 4 trips total. It gets boring after a while to point where viewers are complaining about why all they do is go on trips.

***********************

The reason why they talk back is because their mother is a raging psychopath and they are very frustrated with her treating them the way she treats them.

Did you hear her when they were jumping on the water bouncer and she said, We only have a minute, swim like dolphins to me, we have a minute. Then it showed them doing the Segway? Can't remember.

It is true when they film, they are on such a tight schedule they are only allowed only a short period of time to do each activity and I think that is one reason why there is so much frustration.

They can get to fully enjoy the activity. And that is a shame. She shouldn't have even SIT IN on the Space Camp mission control segment. Why not let the kids enjoy it?

She could of left and went for a couple of hours to Madison Square Mall and ate lunch at a very nice upper scale restaurant with Steve.

Let the kids enjoy themselves! Their childhood is only less than 2 years and 5 years. I hope the zeros on the settlement checks are many and some consolance for the way they have been treated for the last TEN YEARS!

@Tucker's Mom (101) Just look at Outdaughtered.Thats a new TLC show thats doing pretty ok for the most part. It's sure as hell bringing in more viewers then Kate's show.Personally,i think you could put any other TLC show in that 10pm slot and they would do better then Kate.Im also certain TLC would do a heck lot more promoting for that show instead of just 6 Retweets from Kate.

Kylie said... 122

Jeanne, I agree with you. Most mothers like yours would just quietly say I'm not up for roller coasters or parasailing, etc. and then sit and observe her kids having fun. Kate keeps talking about showing her kids she is up for anything is so absurd it is sickening. She then proceeds to get on one of these things she doesn't want to do and makes a total fool of herself in front of her kids, screaming her extension filled head off. I can truly say I have never been around or seen another person like her that just screams and screeches constantly. If I came across someone like that on an outing I would quickly move to another part of the park.

I personally think the parents of Outdaughtered's calm demeanor is what really draws people in. And the adorable children. I agree that "chaotic fun" was fine for the J&K+8 because the kids were younger and it was more fitting. But now? "Chaotic fun" just doesn't look too great on 16 and almost 13 year olds. I wouldn't be surprised if the show disappears for a few years after this season.

Did you see the preview for the 16 year old birthday party?

Mady and TFW were in the kitchen and she was breaking down about how PERFECT she wanted the party to be! She started sobbing and grabbed Mady and told her, WHILE SOBBING, that she wanted it PERFECT for them.

Mady just looked at the camera and the way she looked, looked like she has to deal with this on a daily basis and the look on her face was the look of oh, no, not again, exhaustion, so over it.

Can you imagine how she will freak out if the FILM Mady and Cara leaving for COLLEGE?

The screeching and paranoia will be EPIC!

There is no telling how many times TFW has grabbed Steve like that and cried on his shoulder for her 1% problems!

Many, many times.

Kylie (#122), TFW claims to be doing these things to show her kids she's brave or strong or whatever. But the one thing she could
do which would improve all of their lives 100% -- even her own if she wasn't such an obnoxious, stubborn twit -- would be to co-parent with their father.

Allowing Jon into all of their lives would be the most significant way she could be an example to her children of maturity and character. Pretending Jon doesn't exist is the hill she has chosen to die on. Too bad
8 children's emotional well being has been altered by that decision -- and one child's possibly to the point of no return.

Here is an interesting reply on FB. It was in response to a very valid comment that she needs to this comment:

If she cant swim.why did she get a pool with kids

Reply:

It came with the house, she didn't have it put in. She has a trained lifeguard there and schedules swim time for them. I know because my work employs some of the same teens.

First of all, buying a house with a pool is no different than buying a pool later but, OK. This seems to be a real fb account (others are obviously fake with 1 or 2 friends) and she works at a nursing home in Berks County.

Really, they can only use the pool when hired lifeguards are around? My friend down the street had a pool when I was in elementary school. We were only allowed to use it when her mom could be outside to watch her. But hired lifeguards?

If you can't swim, learn! It's not like doing complicated gymnastics or another sport requiring special talent! So ridiculous

Kate has been surrounded by hired help and sycophants. She is never seen in a group of her peers, where her behavior would be totally unacceptable.
As I've mentioned, I'm not a fan of heights, especially ledges!
Years ago, DH and I were visiting friends in San Fran, and we visited their cabin in Sonoma...all the way up this mountain.
Our friend was driving as confidently as a mountain goat, and had no idea I was in the back seat, with my eyes closed, doing deep breathing exercises to contain my fear and not break down.
Kate is an emotionally stunted woman, who is surrounded by her children and a VERY small cadre of close insiders who can't or won't challenge her to grow up and act like an adult.
Except Jamie, it seems.
So, Kate tosses aside anyone who challenges her on any level.

ITA, Tucker's! From what I saw, just her breaking down and sobbing and grabbing Mady, it was just stunning and gasp worthy. Mady looks like the parent. Kate, the child.

And no child deserves to be put in that position, ever.

It looks like her mental illness is getting worse and worse as time goes on!

Just read an article about Naomi Judd who has been suffering EXTREME mental illness for the last 5 years since her tour with Winona ended.

Naomi Judd says her lifelong struggle with mental illness has forced her to hide from the public in recent years.

“What I’ve been through is extreme. My final diagnosis was severe depression,” the country star revealed on Tuesday’s “Good Morning America.”

But, Zorro maybe making a comeback on the twins birthday special! Zorro will be thrown into the cake (by a crew daddy) that KATE just has to BAKE, because she does it all and then since Zorro just ruins the cake, the local bakery rescues KATE AGAIN, like the humongous circus cake, just in time for filming.

Don't cha just love those small golden windows of opportunity for the vendors that help out a poor, struggling mom of 8 that does it ALL ALONE out of the goodness of their hearts and a big check from TLC?

I wonder if after all these years of over-the-top parties, all for the show and tv ratings, puts pressure on Kate to come up with the next big thing and to continually set the bar higher and higher.
It's ridiculous to get so upset that you cry, just over throwing a party. Unless you've made the stakes so high that it's a source of great anxiety.
Kate just seems to be losing it and getting more and more unstable. Her moods on the couch, during the clips at least, seem very blunted and detached.

GollyGee said... 139

I think this is going to come to a head all at the same time when Mady and Cara leave for college, Jon will have much more custody time by then with all of the kids, he will have full custody of Collin and Alexis, and TFW will be extremely miserable.

Because she is losing control.

Her and Steve fighting, it will escalate. Hannah will escape again to Jon. That will leave her Leah and the boys.

Will Steve stay out of loyalty? Will he get sick and tired of the same song played out everyday?

Oh, it's coming. And she can only blame herself.

I pray that the kids will be strong enough to face and handle it because she is so evil.

When my son was young he knew the rule was that he and his friends didn't go in the pool unless there was an adult present even though he could swim. When we had my husband's troops over for a party the rule was that their kids didn't go in the pool unless the parent was watching. Never, ever did we have to hire a lifeguard to do the parents job. My son is grown and on his own and we don't use the pool as much so we got a cover so we don't have to be out there every minute with the puppy (see avatar).

Kate seems to be getting closer to a breakdown of some sort. All the screaming, tantrums, and histrionics are alarming and she doesn't seem to be able to control herself. She sent C away because she couldn't cope with him, she whines about being picked on, she says she's having physical reactions to tabloid stories. She simply can't cope with the stresses of her life. Her mental state is going downhill, fast.

As for her grabbing Mady and sobbing, that's probably her way of making it all about herself. This is the twins' sweet 16, their moment to shine. She had to find some way to turn the focus to herself. And she did. The constant need for attention and validation reminds me of a two-year-old. She can't cope when the story line centers around someone else. Her go-to response to lack of attention is hysterics. Frightening.

Six babies in diapers and two toddlers is chaos. It's not the same with these kids old enough to be self-sufficient, when Kate allows that. Instead, she has to invent chaos. This show sounds like a freak fest. Invented chaos and emotional hysterics is not endearing that family to anyone.

When I saw her on Dr. Oz, I could see her physically experiencing the pain she was talking about when she addressed the constant barrage of tabloid stories.
It is virtually all her doing, of course, but I could see that her stress is real. it's like she can't stop herself from making the same damn mistakes over and over.
Times have changed. Years have passed. What worked when she was at the apogee of her fauxlebrity doesn't fly anymore. Kate is now trying to shove a square peg through a round hole, and it isn't working.
It's madness and it seems no one is able to get Kate to stop the destruction.

Jeanne said... 147

I understand Naomi Judd. I have severe depression. Naomi has severe mental illness of some sort (can't remember). I believe her that she wanted to hide from the public. Who wants to be stared and pointed at? She's famous, might have unpredictable behaviors, had physical side effects from meds, the tabloids would print stories. That could have been frightening to her. I don't understand Kate's mental illness. She seems to want to be stared at in public. She seems to have these breakdowns on purpose to draw attention. Then the Segway guy points it out and it doesn't bother her. My brain can't think that way.

FlimsyFlamsy said... 148

JustMissy (#142), and Steve's constant presence immediately contradicts TFW's "doing it all alone" nonsense.

Think about all the behind-the-scenes help TFW has. Steve watches over her and helps her navigate airports and crowds. TLC pays the tab for the activities, as well as paying a salary to TFW for the episodes. Production assistants handle the details of booking flights and getting locations cleared and releases signed. The crew daddies help keep an eye on the kids. What the heck then is TFW's huge burden exactly, other than her own toxic personality?

Thanks to all who have posted about last night's disaster and the tweets about the show. I haven't seen anything about her hot bikini when they went swimming (or maybe they didn't, won't Milo be disappointed).

I'll bet she didn't have a sweet sixteen party herself and wants her daughters' party to be perfect. Perfect would be if she makes herself scarce and lets the teens enjoy themselves. She doesn't realize it's the little things that don't go according to plan that they will fondly remember not the perfection she claims to aim for.

That's not going to happen of course - she must be front and centre. I'm almost tempted to watch to see her make a complete fool of herself.

Anxiously awaiting the ratings and, of course, Admin's recap.

I watched a bit of Outdaughtered last night, and while there is more calm in their family, they are heading down the same grifting path as Kate. Complaining about the cost of their children, stores seemingly empty when they shop (cleared out for them), kids all wearing the same outfits, etc. Also, last night the "storyline" was them deciding if they were going to invest in a Soul Cycle type studio. They ultimately decided to take out a line of credit against their home(bad idea!!), because as the Dad said: we have ALOT of equity in our house. Funny, since a couple months ago when they filmed them moving into their new home, the storyline was how could they even afford it, and had the stretch themselves to buy it.
Famewhores one and all.

I think that it is cruel to put a turtle outfit for Halloween on the baby that can't walk and is behind her sisters.

-----
-----

Why was it cruel?

There's the old story of the tortoise and the hare. The tortoise came out ahead.

Did anyone else catch TFMJG lunging, then stopping quickly, towards a couple of the kids who were acting up off-camera? She's starting to lose it physically with the kids on-camera.

Kate tweeted last night that the kids were screaming, "This is so sad", and "Poor Mommy". Why do they feel the need to scream in the privacy of their own home, while watching tv? Can't they just speak like normal people? And why are they even mentioning it? They were there when the parasailing meltdown happened, it's not like they didn't get to see it already, first-hand.

The chasm between what was seen on that episode and what Kate narrated in her effort to spin that crapfest was as wide as that waste of space known as The Grand Canyon.

Yes! I saw that last episode, too.

Overcoming your fears, IMO, is doing the activity even though you're scared, but coming down after it all smiles and wanting to go again.

Overcoming is doing it, saying I'm glad I did it, it wasn't so bad after all. I maybe won't do it again, but I'm glad I did it this time.

Overcoming your fears isn't turning into a sobbing, hysterical puddle afterwards and having to be comforted by your young adolescent children.

I also forgot to mention that she made a big deal of pouring juice for the kids at breakfast on the dock. She poured little half cups like they were toddlers.

***********

Yeah I noticed that too. 1) why is she still giving those kids toddler portion sizes? The boys are gonna eat her out of a home soon and she's still giving them portion sizes of a 2-3 year old. and 2) why is she still pouring drinks for them?

I forgot about the tortoise beating the hare! I just thought it was awful that they thought it would be funny, a joke to put the turtle outfit on her and they shouldn't of done it.

Also, when the Busby's were fussing on each other about the finances, Mrs. Busby arranged for a financial advisor to stop by and talk about college for the girls.

The advisor told them that for all their girls to go to college, it would be 2 million dollars!

PFFT! Absolutely no way! This was scripted so people will feel sorry for them and send them money just like TFW for them to go to college.

I think she truly is afraid of some of those things. It appears to be a body reaction over which she has no control. It seems very visceral to me.

I would probably have the same reaction. I also would know better than to even try it.

Maybe it isn't heights that bother her so much, but heights when she doesn't have her feet grounded.

Thus her being able to manage the lift on DWTS, but not the para-sail. Or managing the shark cage and the hot air balloon, but not jumping off the building.

Just a thought.

I think that she really does want to do whatever it is, but her fears get the better of her. I don't think she's faking the para-sail fear or the building jumping thing.

Not the way she was faking the kayak stuff. That was just plain stupid. If she would have shut up and listened to the instructions and given it a fair shot she would have been fine. But no, she has to yell and shout over the guy's instructions.

Kris (#184), I agree about TFW just making stuff up about what her kids are saying.

Who knows if the kids were even home last night? And if they were, that they would drop everything and watch the show (not to say they're not interested, but they could just DVR it and watch it the next day). The twins are 16 -- on a winter break night, they might have gone out with friends. And we know TFW wouldn't let the boys in her bedroom to watch with her.

If TFW heard someone saying "Poor Mommy" during the show, it may just have been the voices in her head.

The deck picnic was such a nice idea. Clearly not one that she came up with. You could tell that she was peeved about having to do some work.

As in, what? I have to carry it all down there on a tray? What? Production isn't going to have it all ready to go?

I don't understand why she didn't set out the big containers of whatever on the deck serving area and let the kids serve themselves. She didn't need to pre-make everything in individual containers and then haul all that down to the dock.

Once again, making it far harder than it needed to be.

If she insisted on individual servings being made up at the house, why couldn't each kid just carry their serving down to the deck?

I think she pours their juice because she thinks that's what moms do and thus it would look 'mom-like'.

I bet she usually doesn't feed her own children and has no idea how it's done.

My thought is that sometimes, Kate's been medicated. She appeared to me to be on the balloon ride.
Was Kate actually filmed IN the shark tank? I seem to recall just seeing her walking out of the ocean with fish (stunt fish).

I'm with you on this. If you've ever had a panic attack, you know that it's like flipping a switch and boom! you're out of control.
It is VERY embarrassing and I would never put myself in a situation like that.

Ha... some of the kids are well rounded (normal age related chubbiness) so they are getting food from somewhere. Try as she might, she can't fight genetics. Jon and his brother are big dudes. I think the food portioning is for show (she's about a healthy diet) but in reality she is lazy and the kids probably often fend for themselves and eat carbs and snacks.

I get the impression that the kids are forbidden from helping themselves to anything in Kate's kitchen.
