Discussion Thread: Sweet 16 1/3/2017

Sweet 16
It's the twins sweet 16! Kate allows Mady and Cara to plan their own party and tensions run high. Kate finds the moment bittersweet, while the twins are just happy to be with their friends.

In other celeb news, Omarosa (The Apprentice "stah") got a position in Trump's administration.
No politics here. Just saying that someone who worked her 15-minutes of reality tv fame (through Trump's show) managed to find a job in the White House.

&&&&

She worked for the Bushes too, I think.

Omarosa was in the reality show business to advance her own self interests. She had bigger and better plans for herself ahead, and she knew how to make the most of every opportunity.

She really is a great example of how when you get an opportunity for a reality show, the world is your oyster. But you have to hustle for it. It won't just "happen." Dickering around in the kitchen does not a cooking show make or anything else along those lines.

I don't much like her, but I can't question her work ethic or ability to go-get.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 2

So the "driving" was just part of a storyline for the show. It's kind of sad that the kids have no desire to get their license

&&&&

Kids these days don't seem to want to drive. The prevailing theory seems to be because they are SOOO connected to their friends via text and social media, the desire to get into a car and go see them isn't as strong. In our day (lol) that was one of the only ways we could really communicate easily with your friends, by actually seeing them in person.

And yes I believe many 16 year olds are drinking BEHIND THEIR PARENTS' BACKS. I do NOT believe most, many, or even a fraction of parents supply them with the alcohol. We'll take your kids away for that AND you could go to jail, and most parents aren't idiots let alone would mess with other people's kids.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 3

When will the children realize their dear friends, Ronnie, Steve, Deanna, are their friends because they make money off them or their mother? Too bad actual family couldn't be there.

&&&

That worries me. That's not to say you can't develop sincere relationships with your staff, but, when you're a celeb, many are just in it for the next step up and aren't really into you for YOU. You have to be careful, and Kate has proven time and time again to have absolutely no judgement. I don't think she could tell the difference between a real friendship and a hanger-on, when her kids need her to teach them those skills. I have no idea what this guy's motives are, but even if his friendship IS sincere, he doesn't even live in town. It's not a realistic friendship.

You're right, the kids will get burned one day, and the awakening will be a rude one.

I never had the desire to drive when I was a teen. My hometown is 1square mile and everything was accessibly by bike and the other beach towns were just a walk down the boardwalk. I went to school and worked in NY and took the bus every day and took public transportation around the city. I learned to drive when I was married And living in Germany. Maybe that's why I tend to have a bit of a lead foot.

I posted this on the other thread right Admin closed it to comments so I'm bringing it over for those interested in the Church Ladies soap opera....

Thanks for your reply, Former. Carrie Ann said that Kate has no self-awareness. Is this true of most narcissists? In the toy store episode, Kate said that she doesn't see other people. Is that because she's concerned only about herself, or because she's socially awkward?
&&&&&&&&&&

Hi Susie. I think TFW said she doesn't see other people because, as a narcissist, she only sees others as objects. She truly cares only about herself and is concerned with others solely in regard to what they can do for her.

As far as having no self-awareness, maybe that's due to the fact that she can't understand how other people perceive her. That's because narcissists have no empathy, so they truly don't understand another person's point of view, nor do they care to understand it.

Admin, thanks for the new post! The comments have been fast and furious, I didn't even notice there hadn't been a new one.

I wonder if at least some of the kids have their guard up with any new people in their lives. They've lost so many aunts, uncles and cousins over the years. Heck, their own dad has been excommunicated, and their brother has been gone for more than 6 month. So it might be easier to keep these folks Mom brings into their lives at arm's length, rather than getting attached and then getting hurt. Total speculation on my part, but I can't imagine their past experiences won't impact their current and future relationships.

CC said... 9

I can understand not having a desire to drive if you live in an area with sidewalks and/or public transportation, or can ride your bike to stores etc.

But the Gosselins live in an isolated area.

Yeah I think maybe texting and FaceTime make it easier for kids to virtually hang out, but once they are old enough to want to drive it need to drive, then they won't know how.

Susan1956 said... 10

I wonder if one of the reasons Kate was so fixated on making the twins' party perfect was because TLC didn't buy the twins a car(s). As a producer, I'm sure she pitched the idea.

Gee, I'm older than you are and we somehow managed to communicate via that old-fashioned gadget known as the telephone.

$$$

I didn't say we couldn't communicate. I said it's easier nowadays. For everyone. A rotary telephone is shared by the whole family. It's rude to tie it up and few parents would let us do so. It's also dependent on the other party being near the phone. It can sometimes take half a day or more to reach someone. Not anymore unless the person is purposely not responding for whatever reason. If they're not home in the old days they miss the call. There's no dispute smartphones and social media have made it ten times easier to keep in touch instantly without displacing anyone else. Why argue this point? The question is does this explain why kids don't want to drive, because their need for instant and intense contact with peers is being very fulfilled by modern communication? Maybe, it's merely a theory.

From my experience with 16 year olds, the reason for not wanting to get a license now is simply because they lead a restricted life. My kids wanted their licenses as soon as possible because they had school activities (like band or sports) and part-time jobs after school. They shared a used vehicle with no issue because it was no longer thought it cool to ride a school bus. They had cell phones and computers but would meet friends after school to eat out or hang. The twins have little social life apparently.

Do they concede that she does't have a relationship with them? I thought that they were under the belief that Kate sees her parents but is protecting their privacy. In the case of her siblings, fans would side with Kate, especially since Kevin and Jodi testified in the child labor law hearings about the need for new laws to protect those involved in the filming of all kids in PA. They became the enemy, according to the fans. Why would Kate have a relationship with them when they (according to the fans) threw Kate under the bus?

Nice that Kate can afford to send two dogs (or did Shoka go, too?) to the groomers for their own spa days. All Gosselins MUST have spa days, I'm sure it's even in the puppies' contracts.

kateplusmy8 This made me laugh SO hard! I had just picked the kids up at the bus stop ..then we all headed to the groomer to pick the puppies up too! Mady obviously got a (hairy) loving greeting from Nanuq! They are always extra happy to see us after a spa/play day! ❤️ #LoveThemAll #SoBlessed

He was on 5 different "Bachelor" shows and he became obsessed with reality TV. His reputation suffered, he lost friends, he became estranged from his family and all because he wanted to be on TV.

He finally realized the error of his ways and wrote this letter about why he is quitting reality TV.

I couldn't help think of Kate when I read this. At least this guy (Chris Bukowski) finally got it. He finally realized the importance of family and friends, something Kate will never get.

I think the girls have no desire to get their permit/license is Kate has told them she is no way in hell teaching them, buying them a car, or letting them use her cars. Kate is in charge and can't take the chance they can drive anywhere. What if they drive to see Beth or Aunt Jodi or their father? It's too much of a wild card.

Of course many 16 yr olds have parties with alcohol. Parents can be charged so the teens often sneak alcohol. But TLC certainly would not air a party with teens drinking. Plus they probably strip search the attendees before making them sign the NDA so they can't take a pic of Kate.

I am so confused. The girls had their party at a butcher's? That's the dream of every 16 yr old. They don't have a room they advertise on their web site as available. Was it the break room or a room in the owners' house or a prep room or what? What the hell is wrong with Kate's huge house? She has tables, chairs, couches, many rooms, a big kitchen. This is so odd. And it meant the little kids couldn't be there why? The BBB didn't get smaller the day of the party. This is such a strange party. Of course she never intended to have it at the house.

I watched the promo video on the TLC website for the party. Mostly on mute. What is on Kate's counter to the left of her hand? Is that a Zorro toy? Why is there a huge pen set up for the dogs in the family room? Sure, Kate, you love dogs.

Tucker's Mom (#37), I think the independence associated with driving scares the snot out of TFW. Not for safety or sentimental reasons -- she seems weak on both fronts. But I think she's terrified of the twins finally being out of the confines of G Manor and spending lots of time out in the real world. Sure, they've traveled extensively with their golden platter experiences, but it was ALWAYS with Mom and TLC calling the shots. And of course I'm not saying they haven't had independent experiences at school and with friends, and in C's case, being on a sports team. But to be 16 and able to come and go as you please -- even if Mom has already mapped out your weekend to the minute with a filming schedule? TFW isn't ready for that.

Now lest ask Milo, why the heck she is analyzing K’s picture to see shapes made out of the hair? She is a lunatic case also. If we all cock our head a little and look at her would we see a crazy person? Maybe that is what C is doing all the time, picking puppy hair off her clothes. I feel sorry for her mainly because she and everyone else knows M is the star and favorite for now until she gets kicked to the curb, then a free for all of who is the chosen one.

I think what happened with Jon was that he got the kids on his regular custody time that happened to fall on New Year's Eve. He mentioned recently that Kate hasn't been allowing him to have the kids on holidays even if it falls on his custody time. So the source is saying he went to the judge and got his custody days that fall on holidays enforced. ???

Not sure what happened that he only got the same four again.

My guess would be the twins had plans for NYE since it fell on a Saturday, and Jon didn't want to force them on a special holiday. ? And something must be up with Alexis. I can see why people feel she's heading the same direction as Collin is. Hope not.

I don't get this salmon thing. If she had the filets you break them up to make the parties. Did she not know that and threw some of the filets on the grill for the camera and then someone pointed out you need to break up the filets first? So she goes back to square one with the rest of the filets and breaks them up and forms patties? Are you guys saying she cooked the salmon outside and then it started to rain? Geez, she's got a second grill on the covered patio downstairs and there's a picnic table there too. Any other person would have moved the party to the basement. Such desperate measures to fill camera time with moving the party into town. Gotta have chaos and meltdowns.

Actually I think the simple answer the party prep was filmed over several days which explains her changes of clothing and the salmon snafu. It appears the editing continuity was nonexistent. Must have Figure 8 editor-in-training, LOL.

From the two clips I saw, Mary's parentification is complete with Mady comforting a 3 year old Kate. I've never seen anything like this before. Ever. I hope it was made up because if not, that psych eval can't happen fast enough.

TLC stinks said... 49

I don't believe any excuse should be made for Mady and Cara not seeing their dad on his assigned custody date. Mady is particularly hateful with her comments.

&&&&

Family law orders almost always spell out holidays separately. 99 percent share holidays even-odd. On odd years you get Christmas, on odd years I get New Year's. On even years I get Thanksgiving, etc.

I bet he's got even years (2016) for New Year's Eve into New Year's day. 2017 will be Kate's turn.

It's the fairest way to handle holidays, usually. It's not fair for one parent to get all of them, or to stick to a regular schedule which may include an unusual amount of holidays in them (for instance, if Jon just followed his weekend schedule he would get way less holidays than Kate since holidays aren't always falling on weekends).

In any case, I took his comment to mean I was supposed to get New Year's ANYWAY, so rumors I was suddenly rewarded New Year's are false.

In the morning, she was in the kitchen frying the salmon filets. They showed that while she was supposedly on the phone calling her friend to ask about changing the party venue.

Late on, when Kate was freaking out about all she still had to do, she said she still had to make the salmon burgers.

Then even later, in a segment that was captioned "45 minutes until party", Kate was shown forming patties from a mixture in a bowl. Don't know whether the mixture was made from the cooked salmon, or the whole previous frying stuff was just a prop to give her something to do when she was on her faux phone call with her friend.

The whole thing was odd.

I hate to defend TFW but......my puppy is a day younger than hers and we had a puppy corral set up in the great room for him. It had all the comforts of home and sometimes you just have to corral them so that you can get things done without having them underfoot or you're just tired of all the puppyness and need a break. We don't kennel ours (never have) and we don't use the puppy corral any more because he's 8 1/2 months old now and has been to training so listens to his commands to "scram out of here".

As far as the salmon burgers go, I hope she had something else for those that don't care for salmon. I know that I'm not the only person in the world who doesn't care for salmon (ha, ha, when I started to type salmon, salmonella came up as a choice) and I can't imagine that every teenager there liked it.

There's a quiz to take, and I think TFW would score about a 35:

*&&&&

They have a breakdown of other groups they've tested, and celebrities were scoring a good four points higher than say, average college students. That seems to corroborate that study that says more narcissists are celebs than the average population.

And speaking of narcissists, as far as Kate inviting her lamaze class friend, what a strange place to find a friend, is this a narcissist thing? My narcissist also amassed friends from strange places. One woman was her roommate when she gave birth to her first child, they became friends and remained so for 30 years. The woman was her assistant and that didn't work out, then her nanny and that didn't work out, then she just was a hanger-on who would always be at the house making the kids call her Auntie when it was clear the kids felt nothing for her. I always thought that was odd. This woman ended up living in a trailer in the valley and having both her kids estrange her, so here she was, still hanging onto this friendship with celeb and her kids, while her own life was a mess.

TLC stinks said... 63

The ice cream truck visit was done during the summer. The tups were in shorts and everything was green. The John Deere driving was done in the fall with brown leaves and the girls wearing jackets.

I can't tell with Mady. Is she just one of those kids who is always saying I'm bored or I have no life, even when their parents have offered them all sorts of interesting opportunities? I knew those kids.

Or is she genuinely not ever given opportunities to do anything but go to school and come home every day? I suspect it's the latter, and I think Kate has ever motive not to encourage her to have a richer life beyond schooling.

At the same time she's 16 years old, doesn't she have enough gumption by now to just SIGN UP for things Kate be damned? Unless any activity she does maybe requires parental permission.

It'd be interesting to know the real story behind her total lack of depth to her teenage life.

Jamesvader1194 said... 68

I think the higher ratings had to do with the fact that it was another milestone in the kids loves.I don't believe the last episode will get over a million even with the illusion that Collin is back.I also feel people wanted to know who the guy Mady hugged was and if he was a celebrity.

As far as the salmon burgers go, I hope she had something else for those that don't care for salmon. I know that I'm not the only person in the world who doesn't care for salmon (ha, ha, when I started to type salmon, salmonella came up as a choice) and I can't imagine that every teenager there liked it.

&&&

If I had to guess I'd say you're lucky if about half the teens even try the salmon with maybe 1/3 liking it and a couple loving it. I like salmon, but even I'm not sure about salmon burgers. Especially ones not made very well.

I'd even go so far as to say it's RUDE to serve something so polarizing at a party, unless you have other options available. That's like putting out liver and onions and expecting everyone to enjoy it. Some will love it, some will recoil. You just don't do that to your guests, it's rude.

Like I said before, hopefully she had other options. As long as you throw in some regular and veggie burgers, you've covered most people's taste buds and you're not being rude by forcing them into something many people won't like. I don't know why she does this or what it's about. I guess it could be just narcissism, SHE likes salmon burgers but just doesn't THINK that many other people won't because she can't think of others. Even if it's what the twins wanted, you explain to them that many people aren't going to like this, so we need to also have other options available.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 70

Little People has a good storyline going in Amy dating, and it seems way more real than Kate's fake date with Vann.

The guy seems nice, though the kids are protective of her and questioning his motives. Must be hard to worry about people having fetishes when you're dating.

I think people were just curious about the twins birthday and will move right along next week. The huge drop from the first two shows I still think is more telling than the actual numbers. It's a tune out, take with it what TLC will.

Jamesvader1194 said... 71

Sadly i have to admit, even though its good seeing the ratings as they are.I have this gut feeling TLC isn't going to care about the poor ratings and just keep Kate.It would make no sense because why would they cancel her back in 2011 due to the poor ratings and yet the ratings this season are worse then the 2011 ones but they're ok with this? Why would they even bother cancelling her if they wanted to bring her back so badly?

Layla said... 72

I believe Kate discourages the twins from driving. She won't give them a car, or let them drive one of hers. She says the kids will have to get jobs to get cars. So, they would be going to school and working two jobs. In high school. Kate said she had a job and bought her own first car. Okay, but I bet she only worked one job, not two.

If the twins were to get part-time jobs, they wouldn't be available for filming all the time. If Cara didn't want to film, she could leave. They would have more exposure to other activities besides filming. They could go to their friends' houses, to the mall, go do things normal teens do. That would Kate's worst nightmare. She will not allow that to happen.

Funny, but I thought maybe Kate would give the girls her Sequoia. She got it used in spring of 2011, so it's getting old. I expected her to dump it on the twins and treat herself to a new one. Maybe she really was holding out hope that she could get TLC to buy them a car.

So here's my theory. As of today, considering production schedules, she's either been cancelled or renewed. That is a fact. The reason TLC has kept her so long is that the Gosselins are a franchise that brought in tons of money and a boatload of eyeballs. At the very least, up until this year there has been a core viewership of one million, not bad.

What is different this year is Collin. Unfortunately, it was not enough for TLC to let go. Unless CPS proves abuse and/or Jon wins back some custody rights, I unfortunately believe she'll be back in 2017 with TLC footing the bill for college visits which usually occur junior year. We'll know for certain when spring break rolls around and she's spotted filming.

I think that production is so done with her.

The whole show was a mish mash of random things, none of it tying together or making much sense.

The salmon scenario absolutely made no sense. It had the feel of a production person saying...ah, the h*ll with it. Just throw together what we have and be done with it.

One time someone at a store convinced me to try a sample of salmon saying it wasn't fishy (I still don't get why people like fish if it isn't "fishy"; what other food do you only like if it doesn't taste like itself). Anyway, I took a bite and OMG I could barely disguise my disgust. I was gagging as I walked out of the store. Many people dislike fish, why would you serve this at a teen party? GROSS

And do not forget there is foreign revenue to TLC also and we do not know what the viewership is overseas. Admin (#67), look at poor M's role model. Is her mother ever content? Ever gracious? Ever appreciative? She can tweet #Blessed until her fingers are sore, but her behavior never reflects that. Her children, especially the ones who have been kept from their father, have not had a strong, positive parent to guide them. In fact, sadly, the opposite it true -- they have been saddled with the job of parenting their mother.

Layla said... 84

I can see TLC taking a break from filming for awhile. Ratings are low, there's no new story lines, and Jon could halt filming if he gets any legal rights in court. They don't want to sign on for a new season and then not be able to finish it. But I think they will keep the Gs under some kind of contract. The tups will turn 13 soon. I'm sure they will film that if they can. And weddings and future grand babies would be big, too. The show just doesn't work on a regular season-by-season basis. The family just isn't interesting enough to maintain that.

It's alarming to hear that Alexis gave Aaden a bloody nose. She seems to be a rather violent child. She, along with C, was expelled from kindergarten for being violent. She was the one who was pummeling C with her fists at gagaball. And now she hit Aaden and gave him a bloody nose. shehas been filmed shoving other kids many times. If we are only seeing "glimpses" of their lives, and we are seeing multiple instances of physical violence from her, then there is a problem. This is not just a small child who hits. She is almost 13. She should be able to controll herself by now. Once she becomes an adult, she will not get away with hitting people.

natasha_not_telling Wow that's expensive, only $3 American in australia for vegemite. But so worth it lol

The salmon - this reminds me of an event for kids in my community a couple of years ago. A bunch of parents were organizing a Christmas lunch for the kids in the various community programs, and had decided on getting a bunch of ready made sandwiches and appies, etc from Costco. We had a $500 budget, and as it was near Christmas, no one wanted to, or had the extra time, to make sandwiches, etc for 50 kids. Enter the know-it-all director (woman in her 60's), that decided she would get a group of her friends together to make the lunch, as she felt it was a shame that the kids weren't going to get a "homemade" meal. We agreed, and just assumed she would take the $500 and buy all the fixings, and make it with her group.

End result - Veggie and Fruit Trays, Juice, and a large amount of egg salad and SALMON salad sandwiches. That's it. Now, I love a good egg salad sandwich every once and awhile, but a lot of (younger) kids don't have the palette, or the appetite, for these kinds of foods. I'd never had a "salmon salad" sandwich before, and believe me, it did not look appetizing. Just a glop of pink ooze between 2 pieces of white bread. It was almost like they dumped salmon and mayo in a blender. Ugh.

Just a classic example of someone who does not see beyond their own desires, and could not give a flying fig about what anyone else would want, or what would be appropriate for the group.

And she had a major meltdown about the amount of food left over. At least it became something we parents could laugh about for a long time.

I didn't like how the two girls sat together like they were the team, and stared disgustingly at the other girl who was by herself. It felt isolating. Us versus her.

I didn't watch the episode, so I didn't know about Alexis being cut out. Someone else said that she appeared medicated in couch interviews in another episode. She is the one with the crossed arms and angry glare in the K+8 promo picture. She is always being shunned by her sisters. One of the recent articles (ROL?) had some pictures, and one of them had the tups outside the house (taken at the same time as the one where Leah had no shoes on), and Alexis has Leah in an armlock around the neck. Hannah is watching with a disgusted look. Aaden and Joel are standing together and Collin is standing off by himself with a sad, vacant look on his face. That picture speaks volumes about the dynamic between those kids.

FlimsyFlamsy said... 96

Nicky (#87), great story. And I'm crazy about eggs, but I would rather eat a caulk sandwich than egg salad one!

JM said... 97

Just wanted to comment on a few things:
-Someone asked earlier if Zorro was seen in the episode - I did seem in late in the episode, when they return to the house, one of the younger kids has him on their hand
-It dawned on me that there wasn't any footage in the episode of them shopping at Target; the store they were at didn't look like Target to me. I went back and found the blog post here from when they were spotted filming at Target; it was the weekend of Sep 24-25 and they were dressed in different clothes. So none of that footage was used (didn't see it in any previous episode either).
-thanks to those that remembered about the stale cereal lady and her friend/associate that had legal troubles. I recalled that also but wasn't sure I was correct on that. I just knew someone here would remember too!
-I just thought of this: in the People mag interview, Mady says she doesn't have time for a "toxic" relationship because of all she has/is involved in, including learning to drive, but then in this episode, she says she just goes to school and back home and doesn't really need to learn to drive now ... hmmmmm!
-The timeline in the episode leading up to the party is not real (unreality). They show "3 days before party" when Kate and Mady are sitting around looking at the laptop for ideas. Mady says they have to meet about the cake at 1:30, Kate says no, by 1:30. Mady later says the party was on their actually birthday; that does make sense as their birthday was on a Saturday. 3 days before would be on a Wednesday and they are going at 1:30 to discuss the cake? I think that was filmed the weekend before, as also the twins and 2 of the younger kids are with them. Then on the "2 days before" they are shown shopping at the store for party supplies, also with only 2 other kids with them. It was strange.

*****
Yup, nothing wrong with a pen for a puppy. It serves many purposes, like you said, from just corralling them for sanity or safety, or they might be on the ragged edge of their bladder time and you can't get to them for 10 more minutes.
Also, a big plus would be allowing Shoka to be inside without the puppies pulling on his ears. It's a nice, anthropomorphic visage to create with Shoka and his kiddos, but in reality, most adult dogs don't like the whole puppy energy thing and prefer some space.

It's good that Kate doesn't live in France!

"Parents throughout France now need to think twice before spanking children who misbehave, as it could land them in hot water with the law. According to a new law that was recently passed, parents will be required to spare the rod and turn to other measures of discipline — like positive reinforcement — instead.

On December 22, the French parliament successfully voted to enact the "Equality and Citizenship" bill, which places a country-wide ban on all forms of corporal punishment, including harmful physical treatment like caning, flogging, or, a more common form of punishment — spanking.

Child abuse was already illegal in the country, but this new law, which makes spanking a civil rather than criminal offense, was created to eradicate all forms of "degrading, cruel and humiliating" treatment of kids by their parents.

"Ending cruel, degrading or humiliating treatment is an indispensable component of a comprehensive national strategy for the prevention and elimination of violence against children. It lays the foundation for a culture of respect for children's rights; safeguards children's dignity and physical integrity; and encourages positive discipline and education of children through non-violent means," Marta Santos Pais, a special secretary representative of the United Nations who specializes in child protection, said in a statement supporting the new law.

Turns out, the French might be on to something. Studies have shown that spanking basically doesn't work: It can not only impair a child's IQ and their overall ability to learn, but it can also lead to low self esteem, aggressive behaviors and substance abuse and addiction problems in later years.

According to a June 2016 study that appeared in the Journal of Family Psychology, more than five decades of research revealed that children who were spanked were more likely to encounter mental health and cognitive difficulties and obstacles, become anti-social and introverted, and were more likely to defy their parents.

Reports have revealed that, since 1986, the practice of spanking children has decreased among women. However, parents across the U.S. say they still approve of spanking as a form of discipline. According to a 2016 TODAY.com survey of 3,500 people, parents are split equally down the middle, with 50 percent saying they approve of spanking.

So what are frustrated parents to do? Research shows that techniques like timeouts, reasoning and removal of privileges can be effective if done correctly.

Researchers agree that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to parenting. "What parents need to do depends upon the kind of non-compliance that the child is showing," said Robert Larzelere, a professor of human development and family science at Oklahoma State University."

There was something really creapy about the way Kate kept hugging and slobbering all over maddy while looking at the camera . All while ignoring Cara, who also turned 16.

///

Regarding the question "Why won't Mady just sign up for stuff" I'm thinking:

a. Maybe certain activities cost money, if Kate doesn't want Mady to have a cent, she probably won't and
b. Don't they live in the middle of nowhere? Even the bus stop is far enough that they need to be driven there. If the activity isn't right after school and Mady has no license and no one to drive her, again, pretty hard to do I would think

Now, there's the possibily that both Mady and Cara do have a social life but it is being kept away from cameras. Maybe the girls' friends(except Marley) have refused to sign NDAs, maybe the girls themselves refused to film stuff like that. I anyway suspect the sweet 16 party was just like the sextuplets' 4th and 6th birthday party: a party just for the cameras, with private ones having already taken place or scheduled for sometime in the future.

I haven't seen the episode so if anything I say contradicts the episode, sorry.

_____
TLC has shown that the only thing they care about is MONEY. The fact that they keep her---or not---will never have anything to do with her being a good mother. On the contrary, I think so many of the episodes this year (Collin notwithstanding) have demonstrated exactly why she's more of a mediocre mother, with huge mental issues, than a good one. I think if they keep the show going they're batshit crazy, because she is a very big liability. Those kids WILL sue some day, and they'll go after TLC, which has much deeper pockets than Figure 8 or K8 or Steve or any of the other enablers.

I don't know that she deliberately assaulted him. It sounded like it was an accident.

None of the kids seemed worked up about it; it didn't seem like the others were indicating that she hit him on purpose. At least that was my impression.

Back in the late seventies/early eighties, I knew a woman who had a Down child. Things were different back then with practically no services available. She was a teacher and spent hours and hours with him teaching him colors, shapes, senses, everything she could think of, over and over again. Today he is quite high functioning, involved with special olympics, a job, friends. He can't manage his bills but he can do everything else.

The Gosselin kids as HOM were at risk for many problems. Kate was incredibly lucky that none of them had anything like cerebral palsy or spina bifida. And they were in the womb for pretty long for HOMs. Do any of them even have asthma like many preemies? They had a good beginning. But then many things aren't known until kids start to develop. Do they sit up, roll over, etc on time? Do they connect with familiar adults? But Kate paid no attention. She didn't bond with them, never looked at them as individuals, kept them in cribs for many extra hours a day, and beat them for acting their age. She is lucky any of them turned out without physical and/or mental problems. For whatever reason, Colin has serious issues and it seems that Alexis might have serious issues. i feel bad for them that they are suffering from Kate's neglect. I'm also sure that whatever their issues it's worse having to go through it on tv.

Kate has been shown in episode after episode yelling at the kids, being unnecessarily rude to the kids, making negative remarks both to the kids' faces and behind their backs and bullying them. And she ALWAYS rolls her eyes at them, both in front of them and behind their backs.

Why haven't we seen HER get punished? Why hasn't SHE been spanked, had her phone taken away, been excluded from outings/activities and whatever other punishments she has doled out to the children for THE SAME THINGS SHE DOES TO THEM?

Collin and Alexis had March of Dimes help them with physical problems they had as preemies and all the 6 had breathing treatments several times a day.

Kate has never had to pay for anything. Every electronic, appliance, bed, crib, stove, washing machine, etc., has been given to her & Jon. Jon's father made a significant deposit on their first house with generous monthly donations. The second house came with Beth & Bobs generous financial help. TLC opened their wallet to put a fabulous deposit & closing costs + first month taxes. The $300,000 that came from second home sale was used to pay for the 23 acres. She's had it good for a loooonnngg time and fears it's all coming to an end. She has a lot of money left, she just doesn't want to tap into her own. She's gotten use to other people paying for literally everything from soup to nuts.

Tucker's Mom (167),
I'm wondering the same thing...why is she suddenly grafting again? She backed off from that--probably because she could get all the crap she wanted from TLC, and now suddenly she is back to griffins with a vengeance. I mean really, posting the Amazon links, along with a message about how expensive this stuff is and how much the kids these products. She's practically smacking the sheep in the face and yelling, "buy this for me!". We have all thought for awhile now that TLC is done with her, and now she's back to acting like she did last time she was cancelled. Coincidence?

Looking at episode listing for this season, it seems that the 10-year anniversary was meant to be a special, and the season was supposed to be 8 additional episodes. But there are only 7 episodes, and the spot for the description for the 8th has nothing. Did they film all year and end up without enough usable footage for that last episode? Maybe that's why they'd stop the show. There's nothing more to film.or maybe that last episode will be a farewell. Or they may save it for the tups' 13th birthday so they don't have to contract for an entire season just to film that. Whichever it is, it is very curious.

There ia a good recipe for salmon burgers made with cooked salmon. you grill the salmon, cool it, flake it in to a large bowl, add green onions, parsley, sea salt, pepper eggs, panko crumbs, mix together and form patties. Then dredge in flour to make the outside crispy and fry them. My mom always made these with canned salmon.

There is an outside chance a judge will take his/her hand to her, metaphorically, but I'm not holding my breath on that one. Would be very nice to see her get a taste of her own medicine, wouldn't it.

It's not in the middle of nowhere and the bus drop-off isn't that far. There's a late bus from school to her area, so if she wants to do after-school activities, it's no problem.

But can you get to any of those places without driving?

Also, even if you can walk or ride your bike, how safe is that? I wouldn't let my 16-year-old daughter walk or ride in an area like that. There aren't sidewalks. How about a bike lane? And I don't think safe anyway. Kids get abducted. It happens. No thanks.

Seems to me you have to drive to go anywhere from their house.

think the salmon burgers were because one or both twins is vegetarian,
$$$$$
Huh? Vegetarians do not eat fish so how would a salmon burger accommodate a vegetarian?

Thanks for the correction. Whatevs.

Some do. They call themselves pescatarians nowadays but there have always been some vegetarians who eat fish but not meat.

Yes, they are pescatarians, not vegetarians. If you want to accommodate a pescatarian, feed them fish. If you want to accommodate a vegetarian, do not feed them fish. Simple as that.

If you watch the episode, you can see a "no smoking" sign posted on the garage when she is doing the driving lesson in the Gator. How odd.

I would bet that's for the crew.

That may be the strict dictionary definitions, but surely you have noticed that many people deviate from the diet, both more restrictive and less restive, and yet still call themselves vegetarians. It is very common to find fish-eating "vegetarians" who call themselves as such.

In many cases, you will make "vegetarians" perfectly happy by serving fish. We did a cooking class over the holidays with the women in my side of the family, and I was really worried about my vegetarian cousin because the menu was fish. But when I asked, she assured me she was perfectly happy to eat fish. I didn't question her, but that is a pretty common experience. It's best to check, but fish is often just fine to serve those folks.

Someone correct me if im wrong, but wasn't the last time she grift for something was the Polly pockets back in February?Im assuming that was when TLC wasn't filming her.But my God she is such a kiss ass kateplusmy8 Thank you ...ALL of my Australian friends for all of your offers to send us our favorite Australian foods! I have never heard of salmon being cooked before forming into burgers. Wouldn't it be dry and tough if done that way?

Another post on IG today, a video I can't be bothered to watch. K8 must have very little to do. And I wonder why Macaroni Mak gets no special toys or, apparently, attention.

kateplusmy8 'Noodle Nan' (as we sometimes call her) got a new 'indoor ball' in the mail today ...less chance of breaking something😂. It's a bit big so it took her awhile to master the catch! Fortunately, she did ... AND it wore her out and now she's asleep! #Whew #EnergyThatNeverEnds #Nanuq #PlayingBallOnTheStairs #FavoriteGame

coachanna34 Careful, those come apart really easy with some chewing so I recommend taking it away after playtime!

kateplusmy8 Yes! Thanks! She already tried to chew it apart (took it to bed with her) so I grabbed it up fast! :) she has multiple 'when being watched/played with only' balls/frisbees etc! She destroys EVERYTHING! Partly why I keep them entertained with new toys constantly! It's that or my house will be demolished lol! @coachanna34

miloandjack2016😋 So HOW many balls for your pups does that make? She's good! Great balance! #NoodleNanSaysYesICan. #PlayBall. @kateplusmy8

miloandjack2016@kateplusmy8 Really good that you supply constant toys... Keeps her active & sharp mentally...and most important #OutOfTrouble. #Nanuq seems to be really smart!!

salomone.anthony@kateplusmy8 hi Kate I am a big fan your doing a awesome job as a mom its great seeing your family grow up on tv hopefully there more to come

I included this comment from this Salomone fellow because he has been omnipresent on her social media lately. He apparently met K8 and twins last summer in Chicago. He has been all over the K8 FB page since the episodes came back, always saying how Mady is high-strung and Cara is do laid-back and mellow but that's not K8's fault, etc., etc. Except something else came out a couple of days ago about Cara's "big breasts." I went back to look for the comment, I don't know if it was swiffered, but I do know it was there, as I did a double-take when I saw it.

Yes, it's a fine fine life that K8 has managed for her kids. I wonder about all the creepers out there who don't make themselves so obvious on social media.

((((((

Absolutely. My sister-in-law calls herself a vegetarian, not a pescatarian, and she eats fish. Call them whatever you want, as long as they are happy with what they eat! A rose by any other name is still a rose. Why put a label on it?

Sad but true said... 193

Aw look, K8 went back after 80 comments to say she wasn't grifting after all. Anyone believe her? Show of hands . . . And another BEST trip ever! Nothing's ever mediocre in K8World.

TFW has a new video up on IG of Nookie Pookie catching a ball thrown to her. The problem that I see is that the dog is on the stairs jumping to catch the ball. Dangerous.

++++++++++++++

There's not much traffic in that area. It's not like there are cars whizzing around Reading on the four-lane highway. If a kid wants to go on a bike ride, they can safely do it there. If they need a bike lane anywhere near that area, they are out of luck. If safety is a concern, there's always back and forth on the driveway.

Abductions can happen anywhere, even off urban streets, near a school, at a shopping mall, in the daytime, and yet kids frequently hang out in those areas. Yes, safety is always a concern, but where should a parent draw the line and tell them that they can't be in those places because they might be abducted? I don't know.

Sad but true said... 196

Oh no, it's a #NoodleNanCrisis! And Mommy's melting down---again. You really do this on the stairs? That's sounds like asking for breakage, or at least a mess. What a DoIt.

sammie_naglich She's gorgeous!!! Is she just a white German shepherd?!

kateplusmy8 She's a sable (not totally white) king shepherd! Shokas daughter, Maks sister! There were 4 in their litter and I didn't even know this color existed prior! They are so fun!! A shepherd of a different color!:) @sammie_naglich

clumsyj878 Love it! Careful on the stairs. My dad's golden broke her leg that way :(.

kateplusmy8 Omg OMG omg I keep wondering if she should be doing that! She's done it since she was a little puppy and I asked about it and no one seemed worried except for me so... Now I AM worried! Thank you! @clumsyj878

miloandjack2016@kateplusmy8 If she is at the bottom of the stairs...I would not worry. If she is 4 or mote steps up...May want to exercise caution. Dogs are pretty nimble and can take alot of wrestling around! But I know how you worry... #CrazyDogLady. 😋

kateplusmy8 She does this at highest steps .. We make a wall to cash her tho if she should slip.. For real. But yeah now I am worried.. More so! @miloandjack2016

Is a member of the Univeral church, who is fish-eating vegetarian, called a pescatarian Unitarian?

FlimsyFlamsy said... 198

Sad but true (#191), isn't it interesting that the parent who claims to be the only one concerned about their privacy served her daughters up on a golden platter at a fan event, and now the dude is commenting on their bodies?

I'll say it again -- TFW wouldn't hesitate for a second to put the twins' dating life on film, if that's what it takes to extend the life of the show. She will not go out without a fight. No still never means no to her.

FlimsyFlamsy said... 199

I know where I draw the line... a minor going anywhere alone. They'd have to be in a group. But that's just me. Especially if it's not a busy area with lots of people around.

But specifically I was asking if the Gosselin's live close enough to the school bus stop and stores, mall, restaurants, etc, that Mady can get to without a car. Can she walk? Ride a bike? Is it a 10 minute walk? An hour? Or would she actually need a car to get to those places?
