While TFW may not have a lifetime contract with TLC but I believe that TLC owns the Jon & Kate Plus 8 and the Kate Plus 8 brands. This may be why TFW hasn’t started her own YouTube channel yet. No one else is offering TFW any TV time so whenever TLC calls TFW goes running. That is true, and even if they cut ties with her forever, they probably can still hold onto that brand as long as they like and can prevent her from using the brand herself in any other manner without permission. Hence why she has to add Kate plus "MY" 8 to her social media, because Kate plus 8 is taken.
That's very different than making her a slave to working for them or them a slave to giving her work. That's not how entertainment contracts work.
About Kate Coyne -- I agree 100% with Admin, she is more powerful than the sheep give her credit for. Why do I say that, well because on the ID channel the program People Investigates, she was once on there as one of the commentators and you don't get into those scenarios if you have no power at all.

I do have to give her a little credit for ingenuity. She wants to be a talking head on TV, and she's making it happen without ever having anything of substance to say. Kate is her side project among some other pointless stuff, but talking head is her main goal. For someone rather on the heavier side for TV (TV adds 10 pounds), with hair far too long for her age and mediocre features at best, it's kind of weird how badly she wants her mug on TV. Not all of us are cut out for bright lights, she just doesn't seem to know it.
Also Coyne is not just a writer, the last title I saw for her was "executive editor." It could just be a BS mumbo-jumbo title, but usually that indicates you are an editor who gets to make some calls.
This is different than "staff writer."
I don't think TLC has a lifetime contract with Kate, but I do think they feel some obligation for helping her support the kids. They marketed her as the poor-single-mom-of-8 who is soooo exhausted and does it alllll by herself. When they cut her off or slow down filming, she makes public (and embarrassing to the network) comments about how she's going broke and oh, dear, how will she ever be able to take care of her kids? Every one of those stories mentions TLC either canceling the show or not filming, and some excuse as to why she can't do anything else. It used to be because she'd have to pay every penny for daycare, and now it's because she let her nursing license lapse (a lie, but people tend to take these things at face value). These stories reflect badly on TLC, so they respond by grabbing cameras and running off to film. She has found a sure-fire way to manipulate them, and until the kids graduate from college, she will use her tired old sob stories about being broke to get them to film her. TLC needs to just accept the fact that, for the next 9 years, they are at her mercy.

Writers don't always pitch stories. They also get stories assigned to them. The fact that Kate hit the cover even in a small way is relevant in that I would guess no entertainment writer would ever pitch her as a cover story.

It's true that writers are sometimes assigned stories. Sometimes, sometimes not. But you keep forgetting that Coyne IS an editor, she IS in charge, or at least one of those in charge. She may very well be assigning her own stories to herself.
I'm not sure why it's so hard to believe that Coyne is the reason Kate is on the cover. Seriously, a D-list less than a million-an episode ratings makes the cover? Gimme a break. Nobody said we've got to get her on the cover so it will fly off the shelves but biased Coyne. We have statements from Coyne herself that indicates how much she defends Kate even in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary. She's a sheeple, no way around it.
If filming hasn't already begun on the new sh*t-show, my guess is that it will as soon as school ends. Which means a whole summer's worth lights camera action for the minors.
I have been thinking, TLC knows how unpopular(and unwatchable) K8 is by herself. I think "Kate Plus Date" will turn out to be simply a rebranding of +8, in order not to have to deal with the fact that Collin is still gone after 2 years, and it will never be +8 again. There will be more of K8 on her own or with prospective suitors/fellow castmates, of course, but there will still be plenty of kids involved. I think a big deal will be made of how engaged the children are with their mother's love life---which will put the show about as far from real reality as it gets. No reprieve for the Gosselin kids, then; their lives will continue to revolve around Mommy.

Sad but true (#21), I agree that the kids will be part of the new show. That's the only way to mine some drama from the concept. Without them, what would the conflict be?
"TFW gets ready for her date. TFW goes on her date. TFW talks about her date." Yawn. Without the kids, her own life truly offers nothing interesting plot wise. She has no job, other than the occasional episodes TFW offers her. She doesn't seem to have a hobby. No close girlfriends in the same state. And, heaven knows, no family members she's publicly in contact with. If she has any or all of the above, she does a helluva job hiding it from her social media output.
Even with the non-stop toddler drama on J&K+8, having episodes with Beth and Aunt Jodi added an interesting element to the show. But those 2 were kicked to the curb long ago.

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying. I'm still saying Coyne can finagle Kate on the cover no matter what anyone else thinks and without cutting a back door deal. Just because.
As I explained, advertisers aren't advertising specifically to Kate Gosselin, either for People magazine or on TLC. People magazine can put whatever articles they damn want on the cover. Advertisers bought their packages weeks, months, even years prior. They are expecting to reach a certain demographic, and expecting People will be consistent with that. The only time that changes is after the fact when, say, an ad ran next to an article about OJ Simpson or something, the advertiser and its users get mad, and so they pull from the publication for FUTURE ads. But again, they had no way of knowing their ads were going next to OJ.

That makes little to no sense. Tlc is a network, not a company like proctor and gamble. Sure they may run print ads now and again advertising their shows, but why would they be paying a magazine anything more than that? The bulk of People’s ad revenue surely comes from like I said companies like Proctor and Gamble, makeup companies, perfume companies, etc. Surely they owe them far more “favors” than they do TLC. Not sure why it’s so hard to accept that Coyne likes Kate and does favors for her that make little to no financial sense because she’s a sheeple. It’s not that complicated.
At the newspaper I worked for the advertising section was in a completely different part of the building and because of ethical considerations, we weren’t allowed to speak to them, discuss content, or anything of the like. The ads just appeared like magic when we were placing the stories, with an empty box for the story. You might not know what that story is until hours before if it was late breaking. Surely People has the same ethical walls with their advertisers, they are a respected and prominent publication.
Are People covers designed for regional interest? There is an article about Kate inside the magazine (One page -- 22.)

I saw articles and photos about Discovery's Upfronts last week on April 10 in NYC. Only picture I saw of Tfw was only from waist up. Her new show was mentioned. I think that guy she is hanging onto is on one of Tlc's property shows.
Also I saw the people mag at the grocery store this weekend...it did have Tfw in the upper right corner on the cover. I'm in southern Virginia.

My point is that plenty of professors say, this is how you do job XYZ. And the student has a perception of what it would be like to have job XYZ. And then the student gets job XYZ, and realizes well, no, that's not how it happens in the real world. The concept applies to any industry.

I'm not really relating to this analogy or following it, as I did not find what professors told me or taught me about anything to be all that inaccurate. I have not found any job I have to be all that alarmingly different from what I was taught about it.
As far as that's not how it works in the real world, I have lived in the real world of publications. I was a journalism major, and before I went to law school, I was a working published journalist just like any other journalist, Kate Coyne and the like. I worked on staff or did lengthy internships at CNN Washington Bureau, The Washington Times and the Centre Daily times, to be exact. I'm not talking out my ass about advertising being separate from what we writers were doing. That was true at all three of those organizations. Granted, they were more focused on "real" news than entertainment news, but I don't see why most publications would conduct themselves all that differently, especially given the ethical considerations most journalists at least try to follow no matter what you end up writing about.
The comments on Whitney’s Instagram are hilarious - “Almost didn't recognize Kate. She's smiling.” “Is Kate Gosselin engaged?” “you look gorgeous maybe you could style kate😬”. Which one thing is not like the other? Everyone else has some talent or skill. Schmoopy? Not so much.
And the concept here is that any executive editor can give friends free publicity just because they love them so much.

I'm sorry but I just have to fundamentally disagree with this. Publications are influenced all the time by what editors want to talk about. My God, the LA Times won't shut up about their three or four pet issues and virtually ignore everything else, even really important things! And it's not like they are alone, lots of publications do this, leaning one way or the other, droning on and on about some things while ignoring others. Burying the lead of certain stories and not others. Every story involves a decision, and almost all publications lean certain ways.
If you think content is not heavily influenced by editors making decisions about who and what gets coverage per THEIR own interests and feelings, if only implicit, you're living in the very fantasy you say professors are talking of. Coyne could have made a decision to suddenly give a huge amount of coverage to Sir Sean Connery, and he would probably very well pop up in a handful of stories because of her influence and push. It doesn't matter who, but she has some relevance in what the content is. Meanwhile the rest of us are like, um, huh?

Kate's conveniently on a cover with a few other people, therefore there's no way for Coyne to prove or disprove how the cover sold. My favorite part was when the troll admitted that the publications she worked for were basically bought off, and that's just how it works. Ehh, that's not how it works for everybody, buddy. That ethical bankruptcy may be fine for resident troll, but I was a journalist who was imparted some serious ethics. I never once talked to the advertising department the entire time I worked in journalism, and I stand by that.

Totally! She’s all about appearances and nothing more. There is no depth there. For an average country haus-frau she doesn’t look terrible, but everyone knows the camera adds 10-20 lbs. and horizontal stripes just accentuate that. She’s hopeless.
Looking at the recent pics from last week's TLC event, along with her last two pics posted on her IG, it appears something is up.
When she posted the birthday pics on March 28th, many of us thought she looked like she has gained some weight. And, that seems to be the case in the TLC pics from last week.
But, in that "Tired as a Mother" pic posted a week later on April 7th - and just a few days before the TLC pics - she definitely appears thinner. You can see both her clavicles in that pic, and her right arm looks pretty thin. She definitely looks heavier in the birthday pics and the TLC pics:

This may be a last ditch effort by TLC. What else can they do other than updates on how the kids are doing? Does she expect to film the dating show for multiple seasons? I just can’t see this going past one season. UNLESS, she and Steve are going to finally get together and she can say “True Love was under my nose the whole time”. Then they could do a wedding, honeymoon and show how Steve is blending in with the family.

Regarding the IG pictures, I think TFW does not post pics as they happen - I think she posts older photos giving the impression they are now. An example I am thinking of is the two tup girls in shorts and t-shirts swatting at flies in February. Judging from the Xmas pics of the kids huddled in blankets, she keeps the house cold in the winter to keep the heating bill as low as possible. The most recent selfie may have been taken a while ago.
Perhaps part of the dating show is having a trainer whipping her back into shape to get her hot body back? Would she admit that she let herself go physically in order to get more episodes/air time? Possible titles: Kate Plus a Date Minus the Weight, Kate Plus a Rake, etc.

You can bet your life that ALL of the "prospective" dates will be going straight through central casting---and Skeve---before they get to K8. Nothing that is shown will be spontaneous in any way, shape or form. Why TLC is continuing to pay this woman to appear on their network is a question that should be answered by someone in charge, especially with all the open questions about her missing son.
I can see Kate pitching a story line about getting back into bikini bod shape. She's already whined about having to give up running because mothering 1 less child takes 10X more time.

I've never followed this logic. Most famous celebs may find it difficult to find someone who doesn't know them, and if they do, it might be a bit of a red flag, because if you're really famous, it suggests that person may be living under a rock in general, which isn't always good.
Lots of celebs still manage to date and eventually marry, and while some find and marry other actors, many others just marry regular people.

Fair enough. Her drinking and quitting the running gig is probably a big part of the reason she's put on some weight.
In the instagram photo she does look like she has put on weight but I think that's a good thing. She was too thin before and her face was drawn because of it. She looks better with a few more pounds on her.
Her whole look is unflattering. She doesn't know how to dress for her body.
- The dress is a cheap cotton dress that is not styled correctly. Heavy black boots? It's April - get a clue.
- The hair is aging her. Long hair does not make you look younger. She needs a really good cut, and needs to get rid of the white blond colour.
- Look at Lori (say yes to the dress) in white - classy, classy, classy. And she's probably in her 50's, and looks younger and more chic than Kate.
- Yeah, she's gained weight, but she's not fat. But a bodycon dress that clings to everything needs a curvy figure to look good. She's never really had a waist, even when she was really thin - her figure is boy-like. Pair that with horizontal stripes, and it will make her look like a square.
- When you wear a dress above the knee, and pair it with boots, it looks very hoochie-mama.
- Just shocked that this is her first "press" for this show, focused on her dating, and it looks like she didn't get any hair and makeup done. Or if she did, they really didn't do a good job.
She's totally clueless. If she wanted to make a splash, and get more press for this show, why not do a huge makeover? That way the stories would be "look at Kate - new look for a new man".

I honestly believe that this dating thing is all that she has left to market. Sure, she appeared in shows like celebrity apprentice, DWTS, etc.But these appearances have been few far between. And she was never the true Star of these shows. There were other celebrities that up staged her. It’s evident that Kate’s been pushing this dating show idea for YEARS. And it finally has materialized. I think TLC has finally green lighted this idea because they realize that Kate plus 8 doesn’t have a promising future. The kids are growing up, loosing interest in filming, and will more than likely become busier as they get older. The show has had very low ratings on top of that.
I remember long ago when Kate was co hosting along side with Mary Hart. Kate was asked about the rumors flying around that the Twist of Kate would never air. And Kate ademently refuted those rumor as “tabloid lies”. Funny that the tabloids had it right. Maybe that is why Kate is so silent about this new dating show and was told to stay silent as they test it out first?

Well, at least Milo is a teeny bit more oriented to what is going on in the world than her queen. Something I will never get out of my head is the absolutely devastating way that Barbara Bush lost her very young daughter to cancer when the little one was just a tot. I read a biography tailored for kids on her when I was a kid, and later as an adult read Bush Jr.'s bio on her dad, which naturally included a lot about his mom. Both renditions of the story had tears pouring down my cheeks and my heart aching. There was an empathy, a real world understanding of what it means for people to really suffer, because they truly had suffered deeply, that I think really helped shape the leaders she and her husband were.
On another note, I didn't know getting sucked out of an airplane window was a thing.
Her number 1 priority should be transitioning her son back home, not being on a tv show!

In any case, frankly I don't know all that much about her to know whether to idolize her, other than the bits and pieces about her in some things I had read. I was a real little kid when she was first lady. Like so little I didn't even understand what the first lady even was. Bush was VP before I was even born. Most of what I know about her has nothing to do with politics, and is just about the terrible suffering she endured losing a child who probably would have survived in 2018. Imagine that for one second. I admire her courage for facing something so horrific and going on to lead a life of purpose, that is all.

I looked at the pictures and it didn’t look like a “raw” diet to me. It looked like kibble with peas, some cut up steak and rice. My bully turns two tomorrow and he’ll be having the same basic dinner only with string beans and some canned pumpkin instead of the peas and rice. He has a puppy cake too but will only be getting a small piece of it because the whole thing would be too much. TFW isn’t doing anything exciting or spectacular Milo, a lot of us do it.

So ridiculous. It looks like Milo had to again push TFW into posting about the dogs' birthday. Yesterday, I posted at #121 above that Milo did a post on her own Instagram (Milo's) about their birthday in an apparent effort to remind TFW to post about it.

I dunno, Flimsy. Kate is fairly predictable and about as deep as a puddle. Our bevy of bitter biddies (aka dwindling cadre of toadies) can usually call her actions spot on more often than not, although the timing is sometimes inaccurate. I think the dogs will be front and center with Schmoopy on the next #superfun episode of Shrew Dates Who?
It irritates me that Milo keeps saying that Kate has 10 teens under 1 roof. There is nothing to indicate that C is home, but Milo doesn't let reality get in the way of her fantasy about her idol.

I have to vent about this one...I think kendra pulled the wool over everyone with this fake divorce crap...I felt there was something fishy going on. I agree about Kendra - her entire life is dependent on reality TV - she'll do whatever it takes to stay on a show. There are a few other of these reality-holics out there, too.

As I said above, she's straight out of K8's playbook. K8 had no problem filming all of her traumatized kids as the prelude and aftermath of the divorce evolved on the small screen. And neither does Kendra. But in Kendra's case, it's not like she has anything like a career to go back to when the camera crew goes home.
Divorce is very serious stuff...I know...I’ve been the unfortunate recipient of my husbands mid life crisis...believe me you don’t cry on instagram one day and then the next act like it never happened and you’re living with your future ex...it’s such bullshit! NOOOOO! Just as with K8, it's all about the Benjamins. And the fame. All the rest (the flaming falsehoods, the distraught children, the public hand-wringing, what have you) is just collateral damage which, with enough PR juice, will work itself out. K8's now been flogging these poor dogs for almost two years. Personally, I think she's heartily sick of it, but we know what an uphill battle she had on the animal cruelty front. And though it's taken her some time (a LOT longer than it seems to have taken for people to "move on" from Collin), the increasing number of "oh I love how much you love your dogs, Kate" that her IG photos bring must provide some consolation, even if a lot of those are purchased. Though I don't think Purina is going to offer her a spokesperson role anytime soon. :)

Oh yeah, I remember that. So weird. Not only that but hey Kate, just because you and I guess some women like sharing a bed doesn't mean other people love it. It doesn't justify it. She has no ability to consider how someone else might feel.
I haven't liked to do that since I was a little kid, and there's nothing weird or wrong or selfish about that.

That was my main beef with her bed sharing. She's the one who doesn't respect how Mady prefers to sleep, not me.
Kate put her bedroom habits on TV, and it was more than just sharing a bed, it was being hungover, having just had an odd night out, and more. I can think it's weird or not weird all I want. For your information, I think it's generally strange to share a bed with ANY gender who is not your little child or your lover. I can see some reasonable explanations, like you're doing a trip with friends for dirt cheap or something. But to chose to do so when you have other options I find odd. Has nothing to do with Jamie being a woman. Your "defensive" comment is really out of line. You brought up the gender, I didn't. If you look at my comment, I actually said "sharing a bed" in general, I didn't limit it to women. Your mind went there, and that says a lot about YOU, actually. Does TFW have a single local friend in PA? After a decade of her kids being in the same school, is there not one mom who is part of her social circle?
The G kids are plenty old enough to stay home alone. Does TFW ever spontaneously grab coffee or wine with a friend? Go to the movies or a museum or a book store or a concert? Her social media presence makes her world seems so tiny.
One could argue, oh, of course she has local friends, but she just keeps them private and off camera. To which I say, I've got a bridge to sell ya...

I think the biggest red flag I saw was a nice woman who came to the garage sale who used to work with Kate. She appeared to have a daughter at least close in age to some of the kids. She seemed a bit shy at first, do you remember me and all that. Kate did, and she was quite nice to her. But throughout the brief conversation there were numerous opportunities to say hey let's get together over coffee sometime. Or hey, how about setting up our kids and doing something fun for the kids together? She let those opportunities sail on by. It's like it doesn't even occur to her it might be nice to have somewhat of a local social network. And this woman would have been a good choice, because she actually knew Kate before so she wasn't just some random creepy fan, and she had kids.
Point being, clearly the opportunities for Kate to make friends have been presented to her, but she's passed.
Admin (#187), and notice the new "friends" who enter TFW's orbit are people she pays and/or can use. Like her makeup person/"Celebrity Wife Swap" substitute spouse Deanna, and hairdresser "Uncle" Ronnie. Then there's superfan Emily who was recruited to babysit, and cereal shopper Brownie who became the crafts person on the Sweet 16 episode.
Seems friendship is a transactional relationship to TFW. But I just can't imagine the kindness and concern these people show -- not only to TFW but her kids -- being returned to them. In her marrow, she's a taker.

You can't seem to understand the difference.
